In this study, statistical analysing is performed of wind data measured over a 10 min period based on the Weibull distribution function during one year at three heights carried out to determine the potential of wind in two locations in the Hormozgan province. According to the results, wind speed at 40 m height in Kish city ranged from 4.47 m/s in October to 6.69 m/s in March with average value of 5.32 m/s. However, for Jask city wind speed ranged from 3.4 m/s in January to 5.16 m/s in June with average value of 4.22 m/s. According to world classification of wind power, the wind power density is in class 2 for Kish site while for Jask site it is in class 1. Energy production of different wind turbines at different heights is determined. At the end, an economic evaluation was carried out to determine whether studied sites are suitable for development of small-scale wind turbines.  相似文献

The existence of vertical wind shear in the atmosphere close to the ground requires that wind resource assessment and prediction with numerical weather prediction (NWP) models use wind forecasts at levels within the full rotor span of modern large wind turbines. The performance of NWP models regarding wind energy at these levels partly depends on the formulation and implementation of planetary boundary layer (PBL) parameterizations in these models. This study evaluates wind speeds and vertical wind shears simulated by the Weather Research and Forecasting model using seven sets of simulations with different PBL parameterizations at one coastal site over western Denmark. The evaluation focuses on determining which PBL parameterization performs best for wind energy forecasting, and presenting a validation methodology that takes into account wind speed at different heights. Winds speeds at heights ranging from 10 to 160 m, wind shears, temperatures and surface turbulent fluxes from seven sets of hindcasts are evaluated against observations at Høvsøre, Denmark. The ability of these hindcast sets to simulate mean wind speeds, wind shear, and their time variability strongly depends on atmospheric static stability. Wind speed hindcasts using the Yonsei University PBL scheme compared best with observations during unstable atmospheric conditions, whereas the Asymmetric Convective Model version 2 PBL scheme did so during near‐stable and neutral conditions, and the Mellor–Yamada–Janjic PBL scheme prevailed during stable and very stable conditions. The evaluation of the simulated wind speed errors and how these vary with height clearly indicates that for wind power forecasting and wind resource assessment, validation against 10 m wind speeds alone is not sufficient. This study analyzes the wind energy resources on Phuquoc Island, Vietnam. Daily wind data are collected from 2005 to 2011 in this study. The annual mean speed and power density are 6 m/s and 355 W/m2, respectively. Results show that more than 35% of the wind energy comes from the northwest. In this study, a 75 MW wind farm with 25 wind turbines is simulated by using the WAsP 10 program. The wind farm can produce over 189.636 GWh annually. In addition, the effects of wind disturbance and three-phase short circuit of the grid are analyzed using the ETAP 7.0 program.  相似文献

This study aims to determine the wind characteristics and wind power potential of the Gelibolu peninsula in the Çanakkale region of Turkey. For this purpose, hourly average wind data observed at the Gelibolu meteorological station were used. The Weibull probability density functions and Weibull parameters of time-series of wind speed, mean wind speed, and mean wind power potential were determined for different heights as 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 m. According to the results obtained at 10- and 50-m heights above the ground level, the annual wind speed varied from 6.85 to 8.58 m/s in this region, respectively. The annual wind power potential of the site was determined as 407 and 800 W/m2 for 10- and 50-m heights, respectively. These results indicate that the investigated site has a reasonable wind power potential for generating electricity.  相似文献

This paper analyses the wind speed of some major cities in province of Yazd which is located in central part of Iran. Also, the feasibility study of implementing wind turbines to take advantage of wind power is reviewed and then the subject of wind speed and wind potential at different stations is considered. This paper utilized wind speed data over a period of almost 13 years between 1992 and 2005 from 11 stations, to assess the wind power potential at these sites. In this paper, the hourly measured wind speed data at 10 m, 20 m and 40 m height for Yazd province have been statically analyzed to determine the potential of wind power generation. Extrapolation of the 10 m data, using the Power Law, has been used to determine the wind data at heights of 20 m and 40 m. The results showed that most of the stations have annual average wind speed of less than 4.5 m/s which is considered as unacceptable for installation of the wind turbines. City of Herat has higher wind energy potential with annual wind speed average of 5.05 m/s and 6.86 m/s, respectively, at height of 10 m and 40 m above ground level (AGL). This site is a good candidate for remote area wind energy applications. But some more information is required, because the collected data for Herat is only for 2004. Cities of Aghda with 3.96 m/s, Gariz with 3.95 m/s, and Maybod with 3.83 m/s annual wind speed average at height of 10 m above ground level are also able to harness wind by installing small wind turbines. The Tabas and Bafgh sites wind speed data indicated that the two sites have lower annual wind speed averages between 1.56 m/s and 2.22 m/s at 10 m height. The monthly and annual wind speeds at different heights have been studied to ensure optimum selection of wind turbine installation for different stations in Yazd.  相似文献

The observed wind at a given site varies continuously as a function of time and season, increasing hub heights, topography of the terrain, prevailing weather condition etc. The quality of wind resource is one of the important site factors to be considered when assessing the wind potential of any location for any energy project. In this study, two wind energy analysis techniques are presented: the use of direct technique where the electrical power outputs of the wind turbines at a time t are estimated using the turbine power curve(s) and the use of statistical-based technique where the power outputs are estimated based on the developed site power curve(s). The wind resource assessment at Darling site is conducted using a 5-min time series weather data collected on a 10 m height over a period of 24 months. Because of the non-linearity of the site's wind speed and its corresponding power output, the wind resources are modeled and the developed site power curve(s) are used to estimate the long term energy outputs of the wind turbines for changing weather conditions. Three wind turbines rating of 1.3 MW, 1.3 MW and 1.0 MW were selected for the energy generation based on the gauged wind resource(s) at 50, 60 and 70 m heights, respectively. The energy outputs at 50 m height using the 1.3 MW WT were compared to the energy outputs at 60 m to determine the standard height for utility scale energy generation at this site. An additional energy generation of 190.71 MWh was available by deploying the same rated turbine at a 60 m height. Furthermore, comparisons were made between the use of turbine and site power curve for wind energy analysis at the considered heights. The results show that the analysis of the energy outputs of the WTs based on the site power curve is an accurate technique for wind energy analysis as compared to the turbine power curve. Conclusions are drawn on the suitability of this site for utility scale generation based on the wind resources evaluation at different heights.  相似文献

This article presents analyses of the potential power production from turbines located in the near‐shore and offshore environment relative to an onshore location, using half‐hourly average wind speed data from four sites in the Danish wind monitoring network. These measurement sites are located in a relatively high wind speed environment, and data from these sites indicate a high degree of spatial coherence. For these sites and representative turbine specifications (rated power 1·3–2 W) the fraction of time with power output in excess of 500 kW is twice as high for the offshore location as for the land site. Also, the fraction of time with negligible power production (defined as <100 kW output from the turbines described herein) is less than 20% for the offshore site and twice as high at the land‐based location. Capacity factors are higher for coastal sites than for the land site, and the annual capacity factor for the offshore location is twice that of the land site. Potential power output at the offshore site exhibits approximately the same seasonal variation as at the land site but little diurnal variation. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Solar energy and wind are likely to play an important role in the future energy generation in Oman. This article assesses wind power cost per kWh of energy produced using four types of wind machines at 27 locations within Oman. These sites cover all regions in Oman. Hourly values of wind speed recorded between 2000 and 2009, in most cases, were used for all 27 locations. Wind duration curves were developed and utilized to calculate the cost per kWh of energy generated from four chosen wind machines. It was found that the cost of energy is low in the south and middle regions of Oman compared with that in the north region. The most promising sites for the economic harnessing of wind power are Thumrait, Qairoon Hairiti, Masirah, and Sur, with an energy cost of less than 0.117 US$/kWh when 2000 kW, 1500 kW, 850 kW, or 250 kW wind turbines are used.  相似文献

Wind power forecasting for projection times of 0–48 h can have a particular value in facilitating the integration of wind power into power systems. Accurate observations of the wind speed received by wind turbines are important inputs for some of the most useful methods for making such forecasts. In particular, they are used to derive power curves relating wind speeds to wind power production. By using power curve modeling, this paper compares two types of wind speed observations typically available at wind farms: the wind speed and wind direction measurements at the nacelles of the wind turbines and those at one or more on‐site meteorological masts (met masts). For the three Australian wind farms studied in this project, the results favor the nacelle‐based observations despite the inherent interference from the nacelle and the blades and despite calibration corrections to the met mast observations. This trend was found to be stronger for wind farm sites with more complex terrain. In addition, a numerical weather prediction (NWP) system was used to show that, for the wind farms studied, smaller single time‐series forecast errors can be achieved with the average wind speed from the nacelle‐based observations. This suggests that the nacelle‐average observations are more representative of the wind behavior predicted by an NWP system than the met mast observations. Also, when using an NWP system to predict wind farm power production, it suggests the use of a wind farm power curve based on nacelle‐average observations instead of met mast observations. Further, it suggests that historical and real‐time nacelle‐average observations should be calculated for large wind farms and used in wind power forecasting. Modern wind turbines are predominantly variable speed wind turbines with power electronic interface. Emphasis in this paper is therefore on the modelling and control issues of these wind turbine concepts and especially on their impact on the power system. The models and control are developed and implemented in the power system simulation tool DIgSILENT. Important issues like the fault ride‐through and grid support capabilities of these wind turbine concepts are addressed. The paper reveals that advanced control of variable speed wind turbines can improve power system stability. Finally, it will be shown in the paper that wind parks consisting of variable speed wind turbines can help nearby connected fixed speed wind turbines to ride‐through grid faults.

A method for the optimization of a grid‐connected wind turbine system is presented. The behaviour of the system components is coupled in a non‐linear way, and optimization must take into account technical and economical aspects of the complete system design. The annual electrical energy cost is estimated using a cost model for the wind turbine rotor, nacelle and tower and an energy output model based on the performance envelopes of the power coefficient of the rotor, CP, on the Weibull parameters k and c and on the power law coefficient α of the wind profile. In this study the site is defined with these three parameters and the extreme wind speed Vmax. The model parameters vary within a range of possible values. Other elements of the project (foundation, grid connection, financing cost, etc.) are taken into account through coefficients. The optimal values of the parameters are determined using genetic algorithms, which appear to be efficient for such a problem. These optimal values were found to be very different for a Mediterranean site and a northern European site using our numerical model. Optimal wind turbines at the Mediterranean sites considered in this article have an excellent profitability compared with reference northern European wind turbines. Most of the existing wind turbines appear to be well designed for northern European sites but not for Mediterranean sites. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Wind speed data (in metres per second) and direction (in degrees) were recorded at hourly intervals for a period of 1 year from September 2004 to August 2005 at two mast heights of 10 and 25 m. The data recorded were analysed and the regional wind climate determined using the WAsP 8.2 program and a vector map of the region covering 12×12 km. The orography of the area was characterised by elevation contours at 5 m intervals. On the basis of details obtained from the aerial photographic images, the roughness classes were also assigned. The time series wind data were analysed and the Weibull distribution for the two projected heights of 50 and 70 m as per the requirement of the proposed wind turbine generator (WTG) was evaluated. It is seen that the annual energy production in the area from 1 MW WTG is 3.712 GWh at 50 m hub height and 4.431 GWh at 70 m hub height, indicating a satisfactory wind energy generation potential. This paper describes the methodology adopted for the evaluation of wind energy potential for the site.  相似文献

The effect of ocean downwind swells on the harvesting of offshore wind energy is studied using large-eddy simulation of fully developed wind turbine array boundary layers, which is dynamically coupled with high-order spectral simulation of sea-surface wave field with and without the presence of a downwind swell. For the two moderate wind speeds of 7 m/s and 10 m/s considered in this study, the swell is found to induce a temporal oscillation in the extracted wind power at the swell frequency, with a magnitude of 6.7% and 4.0% of the mean wind power output, respectively. Furthermore, the averaged wind power extraction is found to be increased by as much as 18.8% and 13.6%, respectively. Statistical analysis of the wind field indicates that the wind speed in the lower portion of the boundary layer oscillates periodically with fast wind above the swell trough and slow wind above the swell crest, resulting in the observed wind power oscillation. The wind above the swell accelerates due to the strong wave forcing, causes a net upward flux of kinetic energy into the wind turbine layer, and thus acts to increase the extracted wind power of the turbines. For a high wind speed of 17 m/s, the wave-induced motion becomes relatively weak and the swell effect on the wind turbine performance diminishes.  相似文献

The wind speed distribution and wind energy potential are investigated in three selected locations in Oyo state using wind speed data that span between 12 and 20 years measured at 10 m height. In addition, the performance of selected small to medium size wind turbines in these sites were examined. The annual energy output and capacity factor for these turbines were determined. It was found that the monthly mean wind speeds in Oyo state ranges from 2.85 m/s to 5.20 m/s. While the monthly mean power density varies between 27.08 W/m2 and 164.48 W/m2, while the annual mean power density is in the range of 67.28 W/m2 and 106.60 W/m2. Based on annual energy output, wind turbines with cut-in wind speed of about 2.5 m/s and moderate rated wind speeds will be best suited for all the sites.  相似文献

Conventional power generation mainly depends on natural gas and diesel oil in Brunei Darussalam. The power utility company is now thinking of power generation using natural wind. In this paper, wind energy, being one of the most readily available renewable energy sources, was studied. The wind characteristic, velocity and directions were studied using Weibull distribution based on the measurement of wind speed at two different locations in Brunei Darussalam. These wind speed distributions were modeled using the Wind Power program. The wind rose graph was obtained for the wind direction to analyze the wind power density onshore and offshore. Based on this analysis, it has been found that the wind speed of 3 to 5 m/s has a probability of occurrence of 40%. Besides, the annual energy production at a wind speed of 5 m/s has been found to be in the range between 1000 and 1500 kWh for both the locations in Brunei Darussalam.  相似文献

Wind energy has become a major competitor of traditional fossil fuel energy, particularly with the successful operation of multi-megawatt sized wind turbines. However, wind with reasonable speed is not adequately sustainable everywhere to build an economical wind farm. The potential site has to be thoroughly investigated at least with respect to wind speed profile and air density. Wind speed increases with height, thus an increase of the height of turbine rotor leads to more generated power. Therefore, it is imperative to have a precise knowledge of wind speed profiles in order to assess the potential for a wind farm site. This paper proposes a clustering algorithm based neuro-fuzzy method to find wind speed profile up to height of 100 m based on knowledge of wind speed at heights 10, 20, 30, 40 m. The model estimated wind speed at 40 m based on measured data at 10, 20, and 30 m has 3% mean absolute percent error when compared with measured wind speed at height 40 m. This close agreement between estimated and measured wind speed at 40 m indicates the viability of the proposed method. The comparison with the 1/7th law and experimental wind shear method further proofs the suitability of the proposed method for generating wind speed profile based on knowledge of wind speed at lower heights.  相似文献

One of the most appropriate ways for energy storage is producing hydrogen from renewable resources. Wind energy is recognized as one of the widely used renewable energy resources. This paper investigates the use of wind energy for producing hydrogen in Iran. To achieve this, the country is divided into five major regions: center, north, south, east and west. The performance of three large-scale commercial wind turbines, ranging from 1500 kW to 3000 kW at hub height of 80 m and four large-scale wind turbine ranging from 2000 kW to 4500 kW at hub height of 120 m are evaluated for producing hydrogen in 150 wind stations in Iran. All wind data were recorded based on 10-min time intervals for more than one year at different wind mast heights. For estimating Weibull parameters, the Standard Deviation Method (SDM), Empirical Method of Lysen (EML) and Power Density Method (PDM) are used. An extrapolation method is used to determine the shape and the scale parameters of the Weibull distribution at the high attitudes of 80 m and 120 m. Then, power law and surface roughness exponents, capacity factor, annual energy production and annual hydrogen production for the wind sites are determined. The results indicate that rated power is not the only determinative parameter and the highest hydrogen production is from the GW-109/2500 wind turbine at the hub height of 80 m and from E112/4500 at the hub height of 120 m. For better assessment, the amount of hydrogen production is depicted in Geographic Information Science (GIS) maps using power production of the seven wind turbine models. Next by analyzing these GIS maps, it is found that there are significant potentials in north, north-west, east and south of Iran for producing hydrogen from wind energy.  相似文献
