Transparent magnesium aluminate spinel (MgAl2O4) ceramics were fabricated by hot-pressing of the MgO and α-Al2O3 powder mixture using LiF as a sintering aid. Effects of the LiF additive on densification, microstructure and optical properties of MgAl2O4 ceramics were systematically investigated. It has been found that the addition of LiF can effectively remove the porosity and increase the optical transparency of MgAl2O4 ceramics. For the spinel ceramics HP-ed at 1550 °C for 3 h with 1 wt% LiF addition, the average grain size is about 36 µm and the in-line transmittance exceeds 60% at the wavelength of 800 nm.  相似文献

Optical transparent polycrystalline ZrO2 ceramics were fabricated by solid-state sintering process using first vacuum sintering followed by hot isostatic pressing. In the visible wavelength range (400–800 nm), the in-line transmittance of 5.6-mm thick samples reaches 68% at exemplary wavelength 600 nm (corresponding to an in-line absorbance based on 10 of A10 = 0.08 cm?1), which is approximately 90% of theoretical limit. The refractive indices of the ZrO2 optoceramics at 630 nm (nd) are varying between 2.10 and 2.20, depending on TiO2 contents, the latter being used as sintering aid. The appearance of birefringence is strongly correlated to the addition of TiO2 as sintering additive in the ceramic samples, whereas addition of TiO2 and simultaneous increase in Y2O3 content resulted in a decrease of birefringence.  相似文献

Cr (0.2 at.%) and Nd (0.8 at.%) co-doped Lu3Al5O12 ceramics were fabricated with MgO as the sintering additive. The addition of a small amount of MgO can affect the grain boundary mobility and influence the number and location of micropores in ceramics during the sintering process. The results show that when the MgO content is 0.02 wt.%, high-transparency Cr,Nd:LuAG ceramics can be obtained by vacuum sintering at 1670 °C for 5 h followed by hot isostatic pressing (HIP) post-sintering at 1750 °C in an argon atmosphere (P = 200 MPa) for 5 h. The optimum in-line transmittance of the HIPed Cr,Nd:LuAG ceramics (3 mm thick) is 83.5% at a wavelength of 840 nm and 84.0% at 710 nm.  相似文献

Neodymium doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Nd:YAG) transparent ceramics were fabricated from Nd:YAG nanopowders synthesized via a reverse precipitation method by vacuum sintering and successive hot isostatic pressing (HIP) post-treatment. The powders obtained by calcining the precursor at 1100 °C for 4 h and then ball milling for 2 h with 0.5 wt% TEOS as sintering aid were used to fabricate Nd:YAG ceramics. The green bodies were vacuum sintered at 1500–1800 °C for 10 h, followed by the HIP at 1600 °C for 3 h in 200 MPa Ar atmosphere. Influence of the calcination temperature on the phase, morphology and particle size evolution of the nanopowders, as well as the optical transparency and microstructure of the obtained Nd:YAG ceramics before and after the HIP post-treatment was investigated in detail. It was found that for the post-treated 1800 °C-vacuum-sintered Nd:YAG ceramic sample, the in-line transmittance increased from 48.0% up to 81.2% at the lasing wavelength of 1064 nm.  相似文献

Highly transparent aluminum oxynitride (AlON) ceramics were fabricated by pressureless sintering with hot isostatic pressing (HIP) post-treatment. The experimental results showed that the optical transparency of AlON ceramics was improved markedly over the visible and near-infrared range by HIP at 1825 °C for 3 h in 200 MPa argon gas, which derived from the elimination of residual pores in the prepared ceramics. For AlON ceramics pre-sintered at 1800 °C, the transmittances of the sample increased from 63.6% to 84.8% at 600 nm and from 75.4% to 86.1% at 2000 nm, respectively. The average grain size of the HIPed sample was about 47.9 μm.  相似文献

Aluminum oxynitride (AlON) powders were synthesized by the carbothermal reduction and nitridation process using commercial γ-Al2O3 and carbon black powders as starting materials. And AlON transparent ceramics were fabricated by pressureless sintering under nitrogen atmosphere. The effects of ball milling time on morphology and particle size distribution of the AlON powders, as well as the microstructure and optical property of AlON transparent ceramics were investigated. It is found that single-phase AlON powder was obtained by calcining the γ-Al2O3/C mixture at 1550 °C for 1 h and a following heat treatment at 1750 °C for 2 h. The AlON powder ball milled for 24 h showed smaller particles and narrower particle size distribution compared with the 12 h one, which was benefit for the improvement of optical property of AlON transparent ceramics. With the sintering aids of 0.25 wt% MgO and 0.04 wt% Y2O3, highly transparent AlON ceramics with in-line transmittance above 80% from visible to infrared range were obtained through pressureless sintering at 1850 °C for 6 h.  相似文献

Reaction sintering of MgO and Al2O3 with addition of LiF as sintering additive was used to prepare MgAl2O4 spinel ceramic by hot pressing. The process parameter (temperature, pressure, dwell time), the stoichiometric ratio of MgO to Al2O3 and the selection of the alumina raw powder are equally important for highest transparency of the spinel ceramic. With this optimization highest transparency of 86% in the visible range at λ = 640 nm together with UV transmission of 62% at 200 nm for spinel ceramic with 4 mm thickness was reached.  相似文献

The 0.05 at.% Co:MgAl2O4 precursor was synthesized by the coprecipitation method from a mixed solution of magnesium, aluminum, and cobalt nitrates using ammonium carbonate as the precipitant. 0.05 at.% Co:MgAl2O4 transparent ceramics were successfully obtained via vacuum sintering and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) of 0.05 at.% Co:MgAl2O4 nanopowder calcined at 1100°C for 4 hours. The properties of powder and ceramics were comprehensively investigated. X-ray diffraction (XRD) results showed that Co:MgAl2O4 nanopowder had a pure spinel phase. Also, the in-line transmittances of the HIP posttreated Co:MgAl2O4 ceramics with the thickness of 1.2 mm were 82% at 400 nm and 84.7% at 900 nm. The average grain sizes of 0.05 at.% Co:MgAl2O4 ceramics before and after the HIP posttreatment were 11 and 28 μm, respectively. The calculated ground state absorption cross section of 0.05 at.% Co:MgAl2O4 ceramics was 2.9 × 10−19 cm2, indicating that this ceramics is a promising material applied as a saturable absorber for passive laser Q-switches in the 1.3-1.7 μm domain.  相似文献

Transparent Nd:YAG ceramics were fabricated by solid-state reactive sintering of Y2O3, α-Al2O3 and Nd2O3 powders with TEOS and MgO as sintering aids. The powders were ball-milled, dried, sieved and calcined at different temperatures. Samples sintered at 1745 °C for 10 h were utilized to observe the microstructure and the optical transmission. It is found that heat treatments of the powder mixtures above 600 °C for 1 h are necessary to remove the carbon contamination but below 800 °C for 4 h can avoid strong aggregation of the powder. So there is a room for heat-treatment, between 600 °C and 800 °C that can obtain Nd:YAG ceramics with almost pore-free microstructures and high transparency. Highly transparent Nd:YAG ceramic with 84.3% in-line transmission at 1064 nm was fabricated by sintering the 800 °C-1 h-heat-treated powder mixture at 1745 °C for 50 h. Even at wavelength of 400 nm, the transmittance of the sample reached 82.9% and the optical scattering coefficient was as low as 0.71% cm−1.  相似文献

The Eu3+-doped transparent aluminas were prepared by wet shaping technique followed by pressure-less sintering and hot isostatic pressing. The effect of dopant amount on microstructure, real in-line transmission (RIT), photoluminescence (PL) properties, hardness and fracture behaviour was studied. The RIT decreased with increasing amount of the dopant. The PL emission spectra of Al2O3:Eu3+ ceramics exhibited predominant red light emission with the highest intensity (under 394 nm excitation) for material containing 0.125 at.% of Eu3+ and colour coordinates (0.645, 0.355) comparable with commercial red phosphors. The doping resulted in hardness increase from 26.1 GPa for undoped alumina to 27.6 GPa for Eu-doped sample. The study of fracture surfaces showed predominantly intergranular crack propagation micro-mechanism.  相似文献

Highly transparent MgAl2O4 ceramics have been fabricated by aqueous gelcasting combined with cold isostatic pressing (CIP), pressureless sintering and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) from high purity spinel nanopowders. The gelling system used AM and MABM as monomer and gelling agent. The influences of dispersant and PH on the rheological behavior of the MgAl2O4 slurries were investigated. The spinel slurry with low solids loading (25 vol%) and low viscosity (0.15 Pa s) was obtained by using 6 wt% Duramax-3005 (D-3005) as dispersant. After CIP, the green body had a relative density of 48% with a narrow pore size distribution. The influence of sintering temperature on densification and microstructure was studied, choosing 1500 °C as the sintering temperature. After HIP (1650 °C/177 MPa/5 h), transparent MgAl2O4 ceramic with the thickness of 3 mm was obtained, whose in-line transmittance was 86.4% at 1064 nm and 79.8% at 400 nm, respectively. The ceramic exhibited a dense microstructure with the average grain size of 23 μm. The Vickers hardness and flexure strength of the sample reached 13.6 GPa and 214 MPa, respectively.  相似文献

Spherical granules were prepared from a monodispersed slurry by combining the microfluidization (MF) method and the spray freeze-drying (SFD) process. Starting with the prepared granules, transparent MgAl2O4 ceramics were fabricated through pressureless sintering followed by hot isostatic pressing. A comparison with a polydispersed slurry prepared by the ball-milling method showed successful fabrication of a mono-dispersed state by microfluidization method, and 80% visible in-line transmittance was obtained at a 600-nm wavelength from a process starting with a monodispersed slurry of low solid content. Microstructural analysis of the green bodies, the pre-sintered bodies, and the hot isostatic pressed bodies of the prepared MgAl2O4 ceramics revealed that the slurry dispersion should be controlled to a high level in order to suppress scattering sources such as pores and microcracks, which affect the in-line transmittance of visible light.  相似文献

Cordierite-spodumene composite ceramics with 5, 10, 15 wt% spodumene used for solar heat transmission pipeline were in-situ prepared via pressureless sintering from kaolin, talc, γ-Al2O3 and spodumene. Effects of spodumene on densification, mechanical properties, thermal shock resistance, phase composition and microstructure of the composite ceramics were investigated. The results showed that spodumene used as flux material decreased the sintering temperature greatly by 40–80 °C, and improved densification and mechanical properties of the composite ceramics. Especially, sample A3 with 10 wt% spodumene additive sintered at 1380 °C exhibited the best bending strength and thermal shock resistance. The bending strengths of A3 before and after 30 thermal shock cycles (wind cooling from 1100 °C to room temperature) were 102.88 MPa and 96.29 MPa, respectively. XRD analysis indicated that the main phases of the samples before 30 thermal shock cycles were α-cordierite, α-quartz and MgAl2O4, and plenty of β-spodumene appeared after thermal shock. SEM micrographs illustrated that the submicron β-spodumene grains generated at the grain boundaries after thermal shock improved the thermal shock resistance. It is believed that the cordierite-spodumene composite ceramics can be a promising candidate material for heat transmission pipeline in the solar thermal power generation.  相似文献

Hot pressing has been investigated for the production of transparent MgAl2O4 aimed at the scaling up of the process. Other assessed techniques (hot isostatic pressing, spark plasma sintering) can hardly be used for the production of flat components with large dimensions and good planarity.Hot pressing of stoichiometric Al2O3–MgO powder mixtures has been preferred to the direct pressing of spinel powder for the readily availability of pure powders and to exploit the thermodynamic driving force of the spinel formation. LiF has been used as sintering additive.A thermodynamic investigation of the reactions involving LiF, MgO and Al2O3 has helped in the comprehension of the densification mechanisms affecting the transparency of spinel. Transparencies up to 70% in the visible range (highest value 78% at 1100 nm) have been obtained. Suitable soakings have been added for promoting the initial liquid phase sintering and the release of LiF through formation of vapour phases.  相似文献

Spark plasma sintering followed by hot isostatic pressing was applied for preparation of polycrystalline alumina with submicron grain size. The effect of additives known to influence both densification and grain growth of alumina, such as MgO, ZrO2 and Y2O3 on microstructure development was studied. In the reference undoped alumina the SPS resulted in some microstructure refinement in comparison to conventionally sintered materials. Relative density >99% was achieved at temperatures >1200 °C, but high temperatures led to rapid grain growth. Addition of 500 ppm of MgO, ZrO2 and Y2O3 led, under the same sintering conditions, to microstructure refinement, but inhibited densification. Doped materials with mean grain size <400 nm were prepared, but the relative density did not exceed 97.9%. Subsequent hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at 1200 and 1250 °C led to quick attainment of full density followed by rapid grain growth. The temperature of 1250 °C was required for complete densification of Y2O3 and ZrO2-doped polycrystalline alumina by HIP (relative density >99.8%), and resulted in fully dense opaque materials with mean grain size<500 nm.  相似文献

Transparent 0.6 at% Nd:Y2O3 ceramics were fabricated by vacuum sintering at 1550°C and hot isostatic pressing (HIP) at 1540°C. The ceramics sintered at such temperatures had good homogeneity with dense microstructures, without any residual pores and secondary phases. The in-line transmittance reached 81.6% at 1000 nm and remained 81.1% at 650 nm. Continuous wave (CW) laser operation of an uncoated ceramic slab was evaluated. A maximum output power of 3.6 W with slope efficiency of 45.2% at 1.08 μm was obtained.  相似文献

Al2O3/SiC micro/nano composites were prepared by axial pressing of poly(allyl)carbosilane-coated submicrometre alumina powder at elevated temperature (called also warm pressing, or plastic forming) with subsequent pressureless sintering in the temperature interval between 1700 and 1850 °C. Warm pressing at 350 °C and 50 MPa resulted in green bodies with high mechanical strength and with markedly higher density than in green bodies prepared by cold isostatic pressing of the same powder at 1000 MPa. The sintering of warm pressed specimens moreover yielded the composites with higher final density (less than 4% of residual porosity) with the microstructure composed of micrometer-sized alumina grains (D50 < 2 μm) with inter- and intragranular SiC precipitates. High sintering temperatures (>1800 °C) promoted the formation of intergranular platelets identified by TEM as 6H polytype of α-SiC. The maximum hardness (19.4 ± 0.5 GPa) and fracture toughness (4.8 ± 0.1 MPa m1/2) were achieved in the composites containing 8 vol.% of SiC, and sintered for 3 h at 1850 °C. These values are within the limits reported for nanocomposites Al2O3/SiC by other authors and do not represent any significant improvement in comparison to monolithic alumina.  相似文献

1 at% Nd, 3 at% Y doped CaF2 transparent ceramics were obtained by hot pressing at the sintering temperature varing from 500 to 800 °C under vacuum environment with co-precipitated CaF2 nanopowders. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the obtained nanoparticles were single fluorite phase with grain size around 26 nm. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations of the Nd, Y: CaF2 ceramics indicated that the mean grain size of the ceramic sintered at 800 °C was about 748 nm. The influence of the temperature on the grain size, microstructure and optical transmittance was investigated. For the ceramic sintered at 800 °C, the transmittance was 85.49% at the wavelength of 1200 nm. The room temperature emission spectra of Nd: CaF2 and Nd, Y: CaF2 ceramics were measured and discussed.  相似文献

A novel Mn2+ activated green-emitting MgAlON transparent ceramic phosphor was synthesized from Mg0.21Al2.57O3.80N0.20:0.03Mn2+ (MgAlON:Mn) phosphor powder by pressureless sintering combining with hot isostatic pressing. By crystalline structure refinement and cathodoluminescence (CL) characterization, it is demonstrated that Mn2+ was dissolved in the spinel lattice and occupied the tetrahedral site. The ceramic, retaining high transmittance in UV–vis region (up to 82% at 800 nm) and excellent thermal-mechanical properties of MgAlON transparent ceramic-matrix, shows a strong green emission at 513 nm under 445 nm light excitation. Compared with its powder counterpart, the ceramic phosphor exhibits higher green color purity, higher internal quantum efficiency (47%) and lower thermal quenching. It is suggested that this novel green solid phosphor could be applied in high color rendering and high-power white light-emitting diodes when combined with a red solid phosphor and a blue LED chip.  相似文献
