Balancing the energy production and consumption in smart grids influences the integration of new high‐speed communication technologies, to support monitoring services. Sharing the television white space (TVWS) spectrum between licensed and unlicensed users has been recommended by the federal communications commission in 2004. Federal communications commission allows the unlicensed users to access both the very high frequency (VHF) and the ultra‐high frequency channels in TVWS. On the other hand, broadband power line communication (BPLC) has drawn the researchers' attention over the last decade as a high‐speed indoor communication technology. One application for BPLC is the multimedia service in smart grid applications. In this article, we present an overview of the standards, regulations, and channel models of the TVWS and BPLC as 2 separate technologies. We then propose the deployment of the BPLC technology in the TVWS VHF band to build up the white BPLC (WBPLC) communication systems. The WBPLC incorporates the TVWS and the BPLC technologies into multiple‐input multiple‐output communication systems in the VHF band. The simulation results show significant throughput enhancement in the WBPLC over both the TVWS and BPLC communication systems, indicating that WBPLC can be a promising technology to serve the growing needs for the multimedia services in future smart grids.  相似文献

The promise of broadband power line (BPL) communications - broadband access to virtually every home in the United States - remains unfulfilled if the radio emissions from these systems cause significant harmful interference to other users of the wireless spectrum. This article presents an elementary analysis of the physical mechanisms underlying these emissions, from which the interference characteristics of BPL systems can be derived. Numerical models are evaluated for idealized systems using overhead medium-voltage wires, a configuration that is of particular interest for U.S. deployments. The central conclusions of the analysis are: (i) BPL interference is governed primarily by two parameters: signal power and electrical balance of system excitation; (ii) interfering emissions are typically confined to the immediate vicinity of the BPL wire, but long-range effects cannot be neglected; and (iii) measurements on an installed BPL system suggest that it is operating within, but very close to, the limits set by rules recently adopted by the Federal Communications Commission.  相似文献

Recently there has been a growing interest in using infrared light for broadband indoor wireless communications. There are two major limitations for establishing a wideband infrared communications link. The first and most important limit is the power requirements of such a link. The second important impairment is the intersymbol interference caused by multipath dispersion. In this paper we address the issue of designing an optimized transmission system to provide the best power efficiency for an infrared link. Important parameters that should be considered for this design and some examples of efficient link designs are discussed. The suggested designs can improve the power efficiency of an indoor infrared link up to 4 to 8 dBo while providing a smaller rms delay spread, more robustness to shadowing and a more uniform distribution of power. Characteristics of the indoor infrared channel depends upon the directions of the receiver. This dependency can be used in designing a direction diversity receiver to decrease the rms delay spread of the received signal and to reduce the effects of noise by using proper combining techniques. We discuss the effects of receiver direction and field-of-view on the channel parameters and suggest a configuration for a direction diversity receiver.  相似文献

Adaptive bit-loading is a key technology in high speed power line communications with the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation technology. According to the real situation of the transmitting power spectrum limited in high speed power line communications, this paper explored the adaptive bit loading algorithm to maximize transmission bit number when transmitting power spectral density and bit error rate are not exceed upper limit. With the characteristics of the power line channel, first of all, it obtains the optimal bit loading algorithm, and then provides the improved algorithm to reduce the computational complexity. Based on the analysis and simulation, it offers a non-iterative bit allocation algorithm, and finally the simulation shows that this new algorithm can greatly reduce the computational complexity, and the actual bit allocation results close to optimal.  相似文献

光载无线技术结合光纤通信和无线移动通信的技术优势,可以较好地解决带宽、灵活性和电磁干扰问题.随着我国智能电网建设的展开,对通信带宽、稳定性和接入可靠性的要求越来越高.研究基于电力EPON的光载无线宽带接入技术,重点是系统上下行传输协议.用现有的电力EPON网络汇聚无线节点,结合光和无线两者的优势,为终端用户提供空中接口服务,可以在满足电力通信需求的同时减少成本.通过现场实际应用测试证明了该技术的性能和可行性.  相似文献
