Systems using molten salt as thermal media have been proposed for solar thermal power generation and for synthetic fuel production. We have been developing molten salt solar receivers, in which molten salt is heated by concentrated solar radiation, in the Solar Hybrid Fuel Project of Japan. A cavity shaped receiver, which is suitable for a beam-down type solar concentration system, was considered. In order to design molten salt solar receivers, a numerical simulation program for the prediction of characteristics of receivers was developed. The simulation program presents temperature distributions of a receiver and molten salt with the use of heat flux distribution of solar radiation and properties of composing materials as input data. Radiation to heat conversion efficiency is calculated from input solar power and heat transferred to molten salt. The thermal resistance of molten salt and the maximum discharge pressure of molten salt pumps were taken into account as restrictions for the design of receivers. These restrictions require control of maximum receiver temperature and pressure drop in the molten salt channel. Based on the incident heat flux distribution formed with a 100 MWth class beam-down type solar concentration system, we proposed a shape of solar receiver that satisfies the requirements. The radiation to heat conversion efficiency of the designed receiver was calculated to be about 90%.  相似文献

In the solar tower power plant, the receiver is one of the main components of efficient concentrating solar collector systems. In the design of the receiver, the heat flux distribution in the cavity should be considered first. In this study, a numerical simulation using the Monte Carlo Method has been conducted on the heat flux distribution in the cavity receiver, which consists of six lateral faces and floor and roof planes, with an aperture of 2.0 m×2.0 m on the front face. The mathematics and physical models of a single solar ray’s launching, reflection, and absorption were proposed. By tracing every solar ray, the distribution of heat flux density in the cavity receiver was obtained. The numerical results show that the solar flux distribution on the absorbing panels is similar to that of CESA-I’s. When the reradiation from walls was considered, the detailed heat flux distributions were issued, in which 49.10% of the total incident energy was absorbed by the central panels, 47.02% by the side panels, and 3.88% was overflowed from the aperture. Regarding the peak heat flux, the value of up to 1196.406 kW/m2 was obtained in the center of absorbing panels. These results provide necessary data for the structure design of cavity receiver and the local thermal stress analysis for boiling and superheated panels.  相似文献

An integrated simulation approach, which couples Monte Carlo ray tracing (MCRT) and Gebhart methods, is proposed to simulate solar radiation transfer in a solar power tower system with a cavity receiver. The MCRT method is used to simulate the solar radiation transfer process from the heliostat field to interior surfaces of the cavity receiver, and the Gebhart method is used to simulate the multiple reflections process of solar radiation within the cavity. This integrated simulation method not only reveals the cavity effect on receiver performance but also provides real-time simulation results. Based on this method, the reflection loss of the cavity receiver and solar flux distributions are discussed in detail. The results indicate that the cavity effect can significantly reduce the reflection loss and homogenize the concentrated solar energy distributed on interior surfaces to some extent. Moreover, the surface absorptivity has less effect on the reflection loss when cavity effect is considered. The cavity effect on homogenizing solar flux distributions is greater with lower surface absorptivity. In addition, although the concentrated solar energy is distributed on the cavity aperture with similar shapes at different times, the shape of the solar flux distribution on interior surfaces varies greatly with time.  相似文献

For a continuous elliptical Gaussian flux image over the infinite X-Y plane, the parameter relationships between the elliptical Gaussian flux image and the equivalent circular Gaussian flux images are clearly discussed in both mathematical and graphical ways in this paper with respect to the radial power distribution around the image centre (peak flux location in image plane). This paper presents six typical methods (SIGMA-2Mean, SIGMA-1Mean, SIGMA-0Mean in Class One, SIGMA-RPeak, SIGMA-RMean, SIGMA-SqrRMean in Class Two) to give the equivalent circular Gaussian flux images to the elliptical Gaussian flux image, tries to link these circular Gaussian fitting methods to the relevant solar engineering applications, and makes some assessment comments on the elliptical/circular Gaussian modelling in solar mirror optics. By comparing the approximation performance among these six typical fitting methods, it reveals the reason for the 90% intercept over-estimation phenomenon of Francisco J. Collado’s one-point circular Gaussian fitting practice relative to the experimental flux image. The detailed algorithm for automatically finding out the major/minor axes and the image centre of the digital elliptical flux image is also provided in this paper. SIGMA-2Mean and SIGMA-SqrRMean are equivalent for an elliptical flux image, but they are applied in different ways to figure out either the reasonable intercept factor of the experimental flux image on the physical target plane respecting the aperture region of interest, or the power spillage over the limited experimental target plane. At last, this paper introduces the interpolation reconstruction of an elliptical Gaussian flux image over a rectangular domain just based on the boundary pixel values, so it is quite useful for solar engineering, such as fast simulation of a flux image concentrated by a mirror, and also instant approximation of the flux density over the receiver aperture by the linear array of radiometers around the receiver aperture, when the central receiver system is in the normal working state.  相似文献

The exergetic efficiency of heat receiver in solar thermal power system is optimized by considering the heat loss outside the receiver and fluid viscous dissipation inside the receiver. The physical models of heat loss and pumping power consumption for solar heat receiver are first proposed, and associated exergetic efficiency is further induced. As the flow velocity rises, the pumping power consumption and heat absorption efficiency significantly rises, and the maximum absorption efficiency and optimal incident energy flux also increase. Along the flow direction of solar receiver, the exergy flux increment and the flow exergy loss almost linearly increase, while the exergetic efficiency varies very slowly at high flow velocity. According to the exergetic efficiency loss from flow viscou’s dissipation, the exergetic efficiency of solar heat receiver will first increase and then decrease with the flow velocity. Because of the coupling effects of heat absorption efficiency and exergetic efficiency from fluid internal energy, the exergetic efficiency of solar heat receiver will approach to the maximum at proper inlet temperature. As a result, the exergetic efficiency of solar heat receiver will reach the maximum at optimal inlet temperature, incident energy flux and flow velocity.  相似文献

Concentration distributions on a cylindrical receiver in a paraboloidal dish concentrator are computed for space applications (no atmosphere). A geometric optics method is applied which integrates over the solar disk and the concentrator projected surface, and maps analytically, in implicit closed form, through the concentrator and onto the receiver. Finite sunshape, concentrator surface errors, and pointing system zero-mean and constant offset errors are considered. Results define the section of the receiver surface which receives the majority of the concentrated flux, where the receiver's aperture might be located. Results are given in terms of concentrator geometry, concentrator total system error tolerance, receiver geometry, and pointing offset error. In cases with pointing offset error (nonzero mean pointing error), circumferentially varying concentration distributions are shown.  相似文献

A technique is proposed for calculating the concentration coefficient that determines the actual contribution of the concentrated solar radiation to the overall radiation flux incident on the receiver. It is recommended for the calculations with relatively low concentrations, when the receiver dimensions are comparable with the aperture dimensions, and a portion of the receiver is illuminated by the unconcentrated rays. The technique is based on the balance of the radiant fluxes that are incident on the concentrator aperture and the radiation receiver in ideal conditions.  相似文献

Solar energy is an abundant renewable energy resource that can be used to provide high process heat necessary to run thermochemical processes for production of various solar fuels and commodities. In a solar reactor, sunlight is concentrated into a receiver through a small opening called the aperture. However, obtaining and maintaining semiconstant high temperatures inside a solar reactor is a challenge. This is because the incident solar radiation can fluctuate depending on the position of the sun and the weather conditions. For fixed aperture size reactors, changes in incident solar flux directly affect the temperature inside the reactor. This paper presents a novel solar reactor with variable aperture mechanism that is designed and manufactured at our lab. Radiation heat transfer analysis of this reactor concept is studied via Monte Carlo (MC) ray tracing. MC ray tracing module is coupled to a steady-state one-dimensional energy equation solver. Energy equation is solved for the wall and gas, accounting for the absorption, emission, and convection. Incoming direct flux values for a typical day are obtained from National Renewable Energy Lab database. Results show that for a perfectly insulated reactor, the average temperature of the working fluid may be kept appreciably constant throughout the day if aperture diameter is varied between 3 cm and 1.5 cm for incoming fluxes starting with 400 W/m2 at 05:12 a.m., reaching peak value of 981 W/m2 at noon, and eventually receiving 400 W/m2 at 6:58 p.m., which can make the solar reactor run about 13 hr continuously at 1500 K semiconstant temperature.  相似文献

Optimum aperture size and operating temperature of a solar cavity-receiver   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
For solar cavity-receivers operating at high temperatures, the optimum aperture size results from a compromise between maximizing radiation capture and minimizing radiation losses. When the absorbed solar energy is utilized as high temperature process heat, the energy conversion efficiency can be represented as the product of the energy absorption efficiency and the Carnot efficiency. We describe a simple, semiempirical method to determine the optimum aperture size and optimum operating temperature of a solar cavity-receiver for which its energy conversion efficiency is maximum. Such optimization strongly depends on the incident solar flux distribution at the aperture plane of the receiver. We analytically examine the case of a Gaussian distribution of the incident power flux, and we compare theoretical results with the results obtained when using an optically measured flux distribution. Using Monte-Carlo ray tracing, we further investigate the influence of sunshape on the optimal parameters of a cavity-receiver in a paraboloidal concentrator.  相似文献

In this paper, a small non‐imaging focusing heliostat is presented, and an analytical model for assessing its performance is described. The main novelty of the system lies in the tracking mechanism and the mirror mount, which are based on off‐the‐shelf components and allow a good trade‐off between accuracy and costs. The concentrator mirrors are moved by this two‐axis tracking machinery to reflect the sun's rays onto a fixed target, the dimensions of which can be varied to suit the user's needs. A prototype plant to be located in central Italy was designed and simulated with a ray‐tracing algorithm, and it comprises 90 heliostats for a total reflective area of 7.5 m2. The reflected solar rays are tracked taking the mechanical positioning errors of the tracking system into account. The total flux of radiation energy hitting the target was determined, and intensity distribution maps were drawn. Simulations showed that the system's optical efficiency can exceed 90% in summer, despite the tracking errors, mainly because of the smaller distance between the heliostats and the receiver. The solar concentration ratio over a receiver of 250 mm in diameter reached 80 suns with a very good uniformity. Over a 400‐mm receiver, the concentrated radiation was less uniform, and the solar concentration ratio reached 50 suns, with a higher optical efficiency and collected solar radiation. The present concentration ratio is still suitable for many applications ranging from the electric power production, industrial process heat, and solar cooling. Volumetric solar receivers are used in solar power plants to convert concentrated solar radiation into high temperature heat to operate a thermal engine. In general, porous high temperature materials are used for this purpose. Since the pore geometry is important for the efficiency performance of the receiver, current R&D activities focus on the optimization of this quantity. In this study, the influence of slight geometry changes of this component on its temperature distribution and efficiency has been investigated with the objective of an overall improvement. A numerical analysis of the mass and heat transfer through the receiver has been performed. The investigated receiver was an extruded honeycomb structure made out of Silicon Carbide. Additionally, experimental tests have been performed. In these tests, selected receiver samples have been exposed to concentrated radiation. From these tests solar-to-thermal efficiency data have been derived, which could be compared with the calculated data. Two numerical models have been developed. One makes use of the real geometry of the channel (single channel model), the other one considers the receiver to be “porous continuum”, which is described by homogenized properties such as permeability and effective heat conductivity. The experimental parameters such as the average solar heat flux and the mass flow were taken into account in the models as boundary conditions. Various quantities such as the average air outlet temperatures, the temperature distributions and the solar-to-thermal efficiency were used for the comparison. The correspondence between the experimental and numerical results of both numerical models confirms the capability of the approaches for further studies.  相似文献

Parabolic trough solar collector (PTSC) is one of the most proven technologies for large‐scale solar thermal power generation. Currently, the cost of power generation from PTSC is expensive as compared with conventional power generation. The capital/power generation cost can be reduced by increasing aperture sizes of the collector. However, increase in aperture of the collector leads to higher heat flux on the absorber surface and results in higher thermal gradient. Hence, the analysis of heat distribution from the absorber to heat transfer fluid (HTF) and within the absorber is essential to identify the possibilities of failure of the receiver. In this article, extensive heat transfer analysis (HTA) of the receiver is performed for various aperture diameter of a PTSC using commercially available computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software ANSYS Fluent 19.0. The numerical simulations of the receiver are performed to analyze the temperature distribution around the circumference of the absorber tube as well as along the length of tube, the rate of heat transfer from the absorber tube to the HTF, and heat losses from the receiver for various geometric and operating conditions such as collector aperture diameter, mass flow rate, heat loss coefficient (HLC), HTF, and its inlet temperature. It is observed that temperature gradient around the circumference of the absorber and heat losses from the receiver increases with collector aperture. The temperature gradient around the circumference of the absorber tube wall at 2 m length from the inlet are observed as 11, 37, 48, 74, and 129 K, respectively, for 2.5‐, 5‐, 5.77‐, 7.5‐, and 10‐m aperture diameter of PTSC at mass flow rate of 1.25 kg/s and inlet temperature of 300 K for therminol oil as HTF. To minimize the thermal gradient around the absorber circumference, HTFs with better heat transfer characteristics are explored such as molten salt, liquid sodium, and NaK78. Liquid sodium offers a significant reduction in temperature gradient as compared of other HTFs for all the aperture sizes of the collector. It is found that the temperature gradient around the circumference of the absorber tube wall at a length of 2 m is reduced to 4, 8, 10, 13, and 18 K, respectively, for the above‐mentioned mass flow rate with liquid sodium as HTF. The analyses are also performed for different HTF inlet temperature in order to study the behavior of the receiver. Based on the HTA, it is desired to have larger aperture parabolic trough collector to generate higher temperature from the solar field and reduce the capital cost. To achieve higher temperature and better performance of the receiver, HTF with good thermophysical properties may be preferable to minimize the heat losses and thermal gradient around the circumference of the absorber tube.  相似文献

The optical performance of a receiver has a great influence on the efficiency and stability of a solar thermal power system. Most of the literature focuses on the optical performance of receivers with different geometric shapes, but less research is conducted on the effects of critical geometric parameters. In this paper, the commercial software TracePro was used to investigate the effects of some factors on a conical cavity receiver, such as the conical angle, the number of loops of the helical tube, and the distance between the focal point of the collector and the aperture. These factors affect the optical efficiency, the maximum heat flux density, and the light distribution in the conical cavity. The optical performance of the conical receiver was studied and analyzed using the Monte Carlo ray tracing method. To make a reliable simulation, the helical tube was attached to the inner wall of the cavity in the proposed model. The results showed that the amount of light rays reaching the helical tube increases with the increasing of the conical angle, while the optical efficiency decreases and the maximum heat flux density increases. The increase in the number of loops contributed to an increase in the optical efficiency and a uniform light distribution. The conical cavity receiver had an optimal optical performance when the focal point of the collector was near the aperture.  相似文献

Solar parabolic trough collector (PTC) is the best recognized and commercial‐industrial‐scale, high temperature generation technology available today, and studies to assess its performance will add further impetus in improving these systems. The present work deals with numerical and experimental investigations to study the performance of a small‐scale solar PTC integrated with thermal energy storage system. Aperture area of PTC is 7.5 m2, and capacity of thermal energy storage is 60 L. Paraffin has been used as phase change material and water as heat transfer fluid, which also acts as sensible heat storage medium. Experiments have been carried out to investigate the effect of mass flow rate on useful heat gain, thermal efficiency and energy collected/stored. A numerical model has been developed for the receiver/heat collecting element (HCE) based on one dimensional heat transfer equations to study temperature distribution, heat fluxes and thermal losses. Partial differential equations (PDE) obtained from mass and energy balance across HCE are discretized for transient conditions and solved for real time solar flux density values and other physical conditions of the present system. Convective and radiative heat transfers occurring in the HCE are also accounted in this study. Performance parameters obtained from this model are compared with experimental results, and it is found that agreement is good within 10% deviations. These deviations could be due to variations in incident solar radiation fed as input to the numerical model. System thermal efficiency is mainly influenced by heat gain and solar flux density whereas thermal loss is significantly influenced by concentrated solar radiation, receiver tube temperature and heat gained by heat transfer fluid. Dish‐Stirling concentrated solar power (DS‐CSP) system is a complex system for solar energy‐thermal‐electric conversion. The dish concentrator and cavity receiver are optical devices for collecting the solar energy in DS‐CSP system; to determine the geometric parameters of dish concentrator is one of the important steps for design and development of DS‐CSP system, because it directly affects the optical performance of the cavity receiver. In this paper, the effects of the geometric parameters of a dish concentrator including aperture radius, focal length, unfilled radius, and fan‐shaped unfilled angle on optical performance (ie, optical efficiency and flux distribution) of a cavity receiver were studied. Furthermore, the influence of the receiver‐window radius of the cavity receiver and solar direct normal irradiance is also investigated. The cavity receiver is a novel structure that is equipped with a reflecting cone at bottom of the cavity to increases the optical efficiency of the cavity receiver. Moreover, a 2‐dimensional ray‐tracking program is developed to simulate the sunlight transmission path in DS‐CSP system, for helping understanding the effects mechanism of above parameters on optical performance of the cavity receiver. The analysis indicates that the optical efficiency of the cavity receiver with and without the reflecting cone is 89.88% and 85.70%, respectively, and former significantly increased 4.18% for 38 kW XEM‐Dish system. The uniformity factor of the flux distribution on the absorber surface decreases with the decreases of the rim angle of the dish concentrator, but the optical efficiency of the cavity receiver increases with the decreases of the rim angle and the increase amplitude becomes smaller and smaller when the rim angle range from 30° to 75°, So the optical efficiency and uniformity factor are conflicting performance index. Moreover, the unfilled radius has small effect on the optical efficiency, while the fan‐shaped unfilled angle and direct normal irradiance both not affect the optical efficiency. In addition, reducing the receiver‐window radius can improve the optical efficiency, but the effect is limited. This work could provide reference for design and optimization of the dish concentrator and establishing the foundation for further research on optical‐to‐thermal energy conversion.  相似文献
