Abstract— Based on the drop‐on‐demand characteristics of ink‐jet printing, the multi‐domain alignment liquid‐crystal display (LCD) could be achieved by using patterned polyimide materials. These polyimide ink locations with different alignment procedures could be defined in a single pixel, depending on the designer 's setting. In this paper, we combined the electro‐optical design, polyimide ink formulation, and ink‐jetting technology to demonstrate the application of multi‐domain alignment liquid‐crystal display manufactory. The first one was a multi‐domain vertical‐alignment LCD. After the horizontal alignment material pattern on the vertical alignment film, the viewing angle would reach 150° without compensation film. The second one was a single‐cell‐gap transflective LCD within integrating the horizontal alignment in the transmissive region and hybrid alignment in the reflective one in the same pixel. In addition, this transflective LCD was also demonstrated in the form of a 2.4‐in. 170‐ppi prototype.  相似文献

Abstract— An ink‐jet‐printing method applied to the microdeposition of high‐viscosity resin, including optimization of phosphor dispersion for light‐emitting‐diode (LED) packaging was examined for the first time. An ultrasonic ink‐jet‐printing method was used, in which ink droplets are ejected by a focused ultrasonic beam from a nozzle‐less printhead. To fabricate white LEDs, high‐viscosity phosphor‐dispersed resin was deposited to form an encapsulant dome. Two types of methods to control phosphor sedimentation for color uniformity were examined; one is heating the lead frame during the resin deposition, and the other is hydrophobic surface treatment of the lead frame base enabling the fabrication of a small encapsulant dome. For light direction control, a silicone micro lens was deposited on an encapsulant dome using the ink‐jet method. The results show that ultrasonic ink‐jet printing is an applicable technique to optimize and modify on‐demand optical characteristics of LED devices.  相似文献

Abstract— A flexible phosphorescent color active‐matrix organic light‐emitting‐diode (AMOLED) display on a plastic substrate has been fabricated. Phosphorescent polymer materials are used for the emitting layer, which is patterned using ink‐jet printing. A mixed solvent system with a high‐viscosity solvent is used for ink formulation to obtain jetting reliability. The effects of evaporation and the baking condition on the film profile and OLED performances were investigated. An organic thin‐film‐transistor (OTFT) backplane, fabricated using pentacene, is used to drive the OLEDs. The OTFT exhibited a current on/off ratio of 106 and a mobility of 0.1 cm2/V‐sec. Color moving images were successfully shown on the fabricated display.  相似文献

Abstract— The fabrication technique for color OLED panels by means of wettability‐controllable hole‐injection material (HIM) and a photocatalytic lithography method achieves both precise ink‐jet printing and long‐lifetime devices. The technique enables us to selectively change the non‐wetting surface of a hole‐injection layer (HIL) of metal‐oxide nanoparticles (MONPs) into a wetting surface without damage to the device performance. Wetting patterns formed by this method with photocatalyst‐coated photomasks made it possible to print emission material with patterns of precisely 98‐μm widths on the hole‐injection layer. A fluorescent green‐emitting device fabricated with an HIM of MONPs by the photocatalytic treatment exhibited a long lifetime of 365 hours at30,000 cd/m2, which can be extrapolated to a lifetime of more than 110,000 hours at 1000 cd/m2, assuming an acceleration coefficient of 1.7. A two‐color device and a monochrome passive‐matrix panel were also successfully fabricated. The two‐color device emitted light without the mixing of colors. The monochrome panel displayed alphabetical characters with good uniformity and no flaws.  相似文献

Abstract— We have developed a new multi‐head polymer OLED ink‐jet‐printing technology to make large‐screen OLED television displays. This printer is used to make a 13‐in.‐diagonal 16:9‐format polymer‐OLED prototype driven by an LTPS active matrix with a pixel circuit which compensates for TFT threshold‐voltage variations. A novel scrolling‐bar addressing scheme is used to reduce motion artifacts and to make sparkling images with a high local peak brightness. The scalability of the polymer‐OLED technology to larger sizes for television applications is discussed.  相似文献

Abstract— A novel method for the fabrication of ink‐jet‐printed organic light‐emitting‐diode devices is discussed. Unlike previously reported solution‐processed OLED devices, the emissive layer of OLED devices reported here does not contain polymeric materials. The emission of the ink‐jet‐printed P2OLED (IJ‐P2OLED) device is demonstrated for the first time. It shows good color and uniform emission although it uses small‐molecule solution. Ink‐jet‐printed green P2OLED devices possess a high luminous efficiency of 22 cd/A at 2000 cd/m2 and is based on phosphorescent emission. The latest solution‐processed phosphorescent OLED performance by spin‐coating is disclosed. The red P2OLED exhibits a projected LT50 of >53,000 hours with a luminous efficiency of 9 cd/A at 500 cd/m2. The green P2OLED shows a projected LT50 of >52,000 hours with a luminous efficiency of 35 cd/A at 1000 cd/m2. Also discussed is a newly developed sky‐blue P2OLED with a projected LT50 of >3000 hour and a luminous efficiency of 18 cd/A at 500 cd/m2.  相似文献

A compact three‐antenna MIMO system based on a triangular half‐mode SIW cavity is proposed. Two isosceles‐right cavity edges are shorted by metallic vias while a hypotenuse is opened to radiate cavity energy into the air. By etching two T‐shaped slots and adopting coaxial feedings, three antennas are formed. The same operating frequencies are achieved by adjusting the position of these slots and high isolation is obtained by optimizing their length. The proposed design has attractive features of simple configuration and compact size, which is completely printed on a single‐layered substrate without external circuitries. A prototype with the overall size of 0.53λ0 × 0.53λ0 has been fabricated. Measured results exhibit the operating frequencies of about 3.51 GHz, high isolation of 16.0 dB, moderate gain of around 4.12 dBi, good radiation efficiency of 81.22%, and low envelope correlation coefficient of 0.16.  相似文献

Abstract— Organic light‐emitting device research focuses on the use of small‐molecule and polymer materials to make organic electroluminescent displays, with both passive‐ and active‐matrix technologies. This paper will focus on the characteristics of red, green, and blue electroluminescent polymers suitable for fabricating monochrome and full‐color passive‐matrix displays. The stability of polymer OLEDs, and the use of ink‐jet printing for direct high‐resolution patterning of the light‐emitting polymers will also be discussed. It will be shown that the performance of light‐emitting polymers is at the brink of being acceptable for practical applications.  相似文献

We have investigated the possibility of fabricating quantum dot light‐emitting diodes (QLEDs) using inkjet printing technology, which is the most attractive method for the full‐color patterning of QLED displays. By controlling the quantum dot (QD) ink formulation and inkjet printing condition, we successfully patterned QLED pixels in the 60‐in ultrahigh definition TV format, which has a resolution of 73 pixels per inch. The inkjet‐printed QLEDs exhibited a maximum luminance of 2500 cd/m2. Although the performance of inkjet‐printed QLEDs is low compared with that of QLEDs fabricated using the spin‐coating process, our results clearly indicate that the inkjet printing technology is suitable for patterning QD emissive layers to realize high‐resolution, full‐color QLED displays.  相似文献

Abstract— Methods used to deposit and integrate solution‐processed materials to fabricate TFT backplanes by ink‐jet printing are discussed. Thematerials studied allow the development of an all‐additive process in which materials are deposited only where their functionality is required. The metal layer and semiconductor are printed, and the solution‐processed dielectric is spin‐coated. Silver nanoparticles are used as gate and datametals, the semiconductor used is a polythiophene derivative (PQT‐12), and the gate dielectric is an epoxy‐based photopolymer. The maximum processing temperature used is 150°C, making the process compatible with flexible substrates. The ION/IOFF ratio was found to be about 105?106, and TFT mobilities of 0.04 cm2/V‐sec were obtained. The influence of surface treatments on the size and shape of printed features is presented. It is shown that coffee‐stain effects can be controlled with ink formulation and that devices show the expected pixel response.  相似文献

Abstract— We present a process for active‐matrix flat‐panel‐display manufacture based on solution processing and printing of polymer thin‐film transistors. In this process, transistors are fabricated using soluble semiconducting, conducting, and dielectric polymer materials. Accurate definition of the transistor channel and other circuit components are achieved by direct ink‐jet printing combined with surface‐energy patterning. We have used this process to create 4800‐pixel 50‐dpi active‐matrix backplanes. These backplanes were combined with polymer‐dispersed liquid crystal to create the first ink‐jet‐printed active‐matrix displays. Our process is, in principle, environmentally friendly, low temperature, compatible with flexible substrates, cost effective, and advantageous for short‐run length and large display sizes. As well as polymer‐dispersed liquid crystal, this technology is applicable to conventional liquid‐crystal and electrophoretic display effects.  相似文献

Abstract— A flat‐panel display with a slanted subpixel arrangement has been developed for a multi‐view three‐dimensional (3‐D) display. A set of 3M × N subpixels (M × N subpixels for each R, G, and B color) corresponds to one of the cylindrical lenses, which constitutes a lenticular lens, to construct each 3‐D pixel of a multi‐view display that offers M × N views. Subpixels of the same color in each 3‐D pixel have different horizontal positions, and the R, G, and B subpixels are repeated in the horizontal direction. In addition, the ray‐emitting areas of the subpixels within a 3‐D pixel are continuous in the horizontal direction for each color. One of the vertical edges of each subpixel has the same horizontal position as the opposite vertical edge of another subpixel of the same color. Cross‐talk among viewing zones is theoretically zero. This structure is suitable for providing a large number of views. A liquid‐crystal panel having this slanted subpixel arrangement was fabricated to construct a mobile 3‐D display with 16 views and a 3‐D resolution of 256 × 192. A 3‐D pixel is comprised of 12 × 4 subpixels (M = 4 and N = 4). The screen size was 2.57 in.  相似文献

Abstract— Two pico‐projection systems, a monochrome green and a full‐color system, based on high‐efficiency OLED microdisplays (VGA; pixel size, 12 μm) are presented. Both optical systems are described by a numerical aperture of about 0.3, a magnification of 15x, and a working distance of 300–360 mm. The frequency limit of both systems is 42 cycles/mm at an image contrast of about 60%. The monochrome projection system with a volume smaller than 10 cm3 consists of one green OLED and a projection lens with five elements. The measured luminance in the image plane is about 0.061 lm. The image has a diagonal of 150 mm with a working distance of about 300 mm and has a considerable image contrast of 396:1. The second system combines three high‐brightness OLEDs, red, green, and blue colored, together with a projection lens and an image‐combining element, and an X‐Cube to achieve full‐color projection. The estimated luminance value for the three‐panel projection unit with an OLED luminance of 10,000 cd/m2 for each display will be about Φcalculated = 0.147 lm. In this paper, the system concepts, the optical designs, and the realized prototypes of the monochrome and full‐color projection system are presented.  相似文献

Abstract— A scalable manufacturing process for fabricating active‐matrix backplanes on low‐cost flexible substrates, a key enabler for electronic‐paper displays, is presented. This process is based on solution processing, ink‐jet printing, and laser patterning. A multilayer architecture is employed to enable high aperture ratio and array performance. These backplanes were combined with E Ink electrophoretic media to create high‐performance displays that have high contrast, are bistable, and can be flexed repeatedly to a radius of curvature of 5 mm.  相似文献

Abstract— Ink‐jet‐printing technology for displays has been making rapid progress and is now nearing production. This paper will go through the developments that have been carried out at CDT, Ltd., to achieve this status. The ink‐jet head and machine development that underpin the capability of the RGB printing process to manufacture P‐OLEDs at high speed with high reliability and with the film‐forming properties to achieve the appropriate device performance will be described. The important contribution made by the availability of flexible metrological tools will be discussed.  相似文献

Abstract— The optoelectronic properties of red, green, and blue poly(fluorene) co‐polymer light‐emitting devices (PLEDs) on a plastic substrate having a multi‐layered structure with water vapor and oxygen transmission rates of less than 10?5 g/cm2‐day‐atm and 10?7 cc/cm2‐day‐atm, respectively, is reported. A semitransparent thin metal multi‐layer (i.e., Au/Ag/Au or Ag/Au/Ag) is placed between the plastic substrate and the ITO coating, achieving a low sheet resistance of 12–13 Ω/□ and an adequate optical transmission greater than 75%. A wider color gamut and a maximum emission efficiency of 0.7, 10, and 1.7 cd/A for red, green, and blue PLEDs, respectively, was obtained. Finally, a simple equivalent‐circuit model was used to simulate the current‐density—voltage characteristics of PLEDs.  相似文献

We have developed a two‐way multi‐view 2‐D/3‐D display combining a liquid crystal lens and horizontally and vertically x times‐density pixels (HVxDP) arrangement. The two‐way multi‐view display features the same display resolution in 2‐D and 3‐D modes and a quite small color moiré for landscape and portrait, respectively, when using the HVxDP arrangement. In this paper, we realized suitable 3‐D properties for achieving a good balance between 3‐D moiré and 3‐D crosstalk for landscape and portrait by a two‐way liquid crystal lens with two kinds of focal lengths for the edge part and the center part of the lens.  相似文献

Abstract— In this paper, the resolution characteristics of multi‐primary‐color (MPC) display systems are analyzed. That four‐primary‐color (4PC) displays can increase the effective resolution for achromatic images in the luminance domain by a factor of two as compared to conventional RGB‐based displays with MPC‐specialized subpixel rendering, which is proposed in this paper, is demonstrated. Five‐ and six‐primary‐color (5PC and 6PC) display systems can reproduce denser luminance data than conventional RGB‐based display systems and solve a problem of MPC displays, viz. an increase of production costs and a decrease in the aperture ratio caused by increasing the number of subpixels in one pixel. This is an essential advantage of MPC display systems, which is related to the combination of the proposed color‐filter architecture and image processing. Thus, a completely new advantage of MPC display systems, in addition to their well‐known capabilities of color reproduction and power saving, is proposed.  相似文献

In this work, the controllability of single‐leader multi‐agent systems with chain structures is studied. It is shown that the necessary and sufficient condition for the multi‐chain system to be controllable is that there exist no two chain lengths in the form ? 1=i + k 1(2i + 1) and ? 2=i + k 2(2i + 1), where i is some natural number and k 1 and k 2 some nonnegative integers. Using this condition, the author derives an upper bound based on the length of the longest chain and proves that if the number of chains exceeds this bound, the multi‐chain system must be uncontrollable. In addition, the author investigates an augmented system constructed by connecting some follower nodes of the multi‐chain system and obtains a sufficient condition for the augmented system to be uncontrollable. Finally, the author shows how to select a minimum number of additional leaders to make an uncontrollable multi‐chain system controllable. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the results. A quarter‐mode (QM) substrate‐integrated‐waveguide (SIW) cavity is designed as a dual‐functional component. By etching three slots, four sub‐cavities are formed and then two of them with the same size are individually fed by a coaxial port. Three resonating frequencies are excited in the single QM SIW cavity. One of them can radiate cavity energy input by these ports into free space, implying a two‐element multiple‐input‐multiple‐output (MIMO) antenna, whereas the other two can transmit energy from one port to the other port, indicating a second‐order bandpass filter. Moreover, antenna isolation and filter bandwidth can be adjusted to a certain degree. A prototype with the overall size of 0.40λ0 × 0.40λ0 × 0.02λ0 has been fabricated. The integrated bandpass filter demonstrates the measured center frequency of 3.8 GHz and operating bandwidth of 32 MHz while the integrated MIMO antenna exhibits the frequency of 3.4 GHz, bandwidth of 67 MHz, port isolation of 18.0 dB, radiation gain of 4.0 dBi, and envelope correlation coefficient of 0.25.  相似文献
