The effects of dietary fat saturation and saturated fatty acid composition on plasma lipoprotein concentrations and hepatic cholesterol metabolism were investigated in guinea pigs. Animals were fed semipurified diets containing 15 g fat/100 g diet, as palm kernel, palm oil, beef tallow, lard, olive oil or corn oil. Plasma lipoprotein concentrations were significantly altered by the type of dietary fat. The LDL cholesterol concentration was highest in animals fed the diet with palm kernel and lowest in animals fed the diet with corn oil, whereas HDL cholesterol was lowest in beef tallow-fed guinea pigs (P < 0.01). Hepatic cholesteryl ester concentrations were 100% higher in animals fed diets containing polyunsaturated corn oil and monounsaturated olive oil compared with animals fed any of the saturated fat diets (P < 0.01). Hepatic 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl coenzyme A (HMG-CoA) reductase activity varied in the different dietary fat groups independent of hepatic cholesterol pools or plasma LDL concentrations. In contrast, hepatic acyl-CoA: cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) activity was significantly correlated with plasma LDL cholesterol across all dietary groups (r = 0.63, P < 0.001). These data demonstrate that regulation of hepatic HMG-CoA reductase activity is relatively independent of changes in plasma lipoprotein levels, whereas hepatic ACAT activity exhibits a positive correlation with plasma LDL cholesterol concentrations.  相似文献

Three experiments were conducted to study the effect of varying levels of dietary copper on fatty acid composition of adipose and liver tissue of male broiler chicks. Chicks were fed the experimental diets to 4 weeks at which time leg adipose and liver samples were obtained for fatty acid determination. Adding 500 or more p.p.m. copper to either a practical or corn starch-soy basal diet caused significant changes in fatty acid composition but the differences were variable perhaps due to a depression of growth caused by these levels of copper. Fatty acid composition of the tissue was not greatly affected by adding 250 p.p.m. of copper to the practical diet which contained 1.5% poultry fat. When a corn starch-soy diet was fed with 0, 2, or 8% added corn oil, the ratio of 16:0 + 18:0 to 16:1 to 18:1 was not lowered in leg adipose lipids by copper supplementation (250 p.p.m.) with any level of added corn oil. With liver lipids copper appeared to reduced the ratios in birds fed the diets with 0 or 2% added corn, but the differences were not statistically significant. The results indicate that using copper levels in practical diets that do not depress growth rate will not have much effect on fatty acid composition of carcass lipids and probably not on physical characteristics of the fat.  相似文献

The effects of spinach leaf protein concentrate (SPPC) on serum and liver lipid concentrations and on serum free amino acid concentrations were examined in rats fed a cholesterol-free diet containing 2 and 10% fats. The serum total cholesterol, triacylglycerol and phospholipid concentrations in the rats fed an SPPC diet containing 2% corn oil were significantly lower than those of the rats fed a corresponding casein diet. When 10% corn oil or lard was used, the serum cholesterol-lowering effect of the SPPC became insignificant, but the serum and liver triacylglycerol concentrations were kept at significantly lower levels. Both the amounts of fecal neutral steroids and bile acids were significantly higher in the rats fed the SPPC than those of the casein-fed rats. The concentrations of serum threonine, serine, glutamine, glycine, cystine, and isoleucine were significantly higher in the rats fed the SPPC diet containing 2% corn oil compared with those of the control rats, but when the dietary fat was raised to 10%, only glycine showed a higher serum concentration. These results indicate that the SPPC has a stronger cholesterol-lowering effect at a lower dietary fat level, 2%, and the activity is partly due to the inhibition of intestinal absorption of cholesterol and bile acid, and partly due to an increase in the concentration of some of the serum amino acids.  相似文献

In Exp. 1, 24 yearling Holstein steers averaging 340 kg were fed either an alfalfa hay diet at a maintenance level of metabolizable energy (ME) intake or corn silage-corn diets at one, two or three times maintenance ME intake. After a 42-day adjustment period, steers were fed individually, and digestibilities of total alpha-glucosides, starch oligosaccharides and glucose were determined at 2-week intervals, with chromic oxide used as an indicator. Steers fed the alfalfa hay diet had higher (P less than .05) total tract digestibilities of total alpha-glucosides and starch than steers fed the corn diets. Fecal starch (percentage of dry matter) in steers fed the corn diets increased (P less than .05) from approximately 11 to 31% as level of ME intake increased from one to three times maintenance. Starch digestibilities for the corn diets fed at one, two and three times maintenance were 81.4, 76.4 and 76.0%, respectively. However, these trends toward reduced starch digestibilities were not significant. There appeared to be no apparent adaption of alpha-glucoside digestibility in the total digestive tract among steers fed different levels of corn over the intervals observed. In Exp. 2, four Holstein steers (350 KH) were each fitted with duodenal and ileal reentrant cannulas and fed either a low or a high level of corn. Alpha-glucoside intakes for animals given the low and high levels of cord averaged 1.7 and 3.2 kg, respectively. Steers fed the high level of corn digested more (p less than .05) alpha-glucoside in the total tract (2.9 vs 1.6 kg), reticulo-rumen (2.3 vs 1.2 kg) and large intestine level of corn. Steers fed the high level of corn also digested more corn in the small intestine (.415 vs .221 kg) than steers fed the lower level; however, differences were not significant. Although there were trends toward lower partial digestion coefficients (expressed as a percentage of alpha-glucoside presented to that segment) in the total tract, reticulo-rumen and small intestine for steers fed the high corn diet, the magnitude of the differences was not significant.  相似文献

Studies were performed to determine whether feeding diets with differing fatty acid content and composition had an influence on systolic blood pressure in the rat. Weanling male rats were fed standard laboratory chow (2.9% fat in total), or synthetic diets (10% fat in total) containing fish oil, butter, coconut oil or corn oil, for 5 weeks. Coconut oil and butter diets were rich in saturated fatty acids, whilst fish oil and corn oil were rich in the n-3 and n-6 unsaturated fatty acids respectively. Systolic blood pressure was measured using an indirect tail-cuff method at the end of the feeding period, and compared to a group of weanling rats. Feeding the different diets did not alter the growth of the rats, so all animals were of similar weights at the time of blood pressure determination. Control (chow fed) animals, at nine weeks of age, had higher systolic blood pressures than the weanling, baseline control group. Fish oil fed rats had similar pressures to the chow fed rats. Corn oil fed rats had significantly lower systolic pressures than the controls. The rats led the diets rich in saturated fatty acids (butter and coconut oil) had significantly higher blood pressures than all other groups. Systolic blood pressure was found to be significantly related to the dietary intakes of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids. The dietary intake of linoleic acid was significantly higher in corn oil fed rats than in other groups. Systolic blood pressure was inversely related to linoleic acid intake. Feeding a diet rich in saturated fatty acids significantly increases blood pressure in the rat. A high intake of n-6 fatty acids, and in particular linoleic acid, appears to have a hypotensive effect. Prenatal exposure of the rats to a maternal low protein diet, abolished the hypertensive effects of the coconut oil diet and the hypotensive effect of the corn oil diet upon young adult females. The intrauterine environment may, therefore, be an important determinant of the effects of these fatty acids on blood pressure in later life.  相似文献

Arachidonic acid concentrations in liver are decreased in response to ethanol administration. In addition, the oxygenated products of arachidonic acid metabolites could affect the severity of alcoholic liver injury. Selective utilization of arachidonic acid by the cytochrome P-450 system could, in part, account for the decrease in arachidonic acid. To evaluate this pathway further, male Wistar rats were fed different dietary fats: medium chain triglycerides, palm oil, and corn oil or fish oil with either ethanol or isocaloric amounts of dextrose. Histopathology, cytochrome P-4502E1 (CYP2E1) and cytochrome P-4504A (CYP4A), and omega- and (omega-1)-hydroxylation products of lauric and arachidonic acids were evaluated. Ethanol induction of CYP2E1 was related to the concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids in the diet; induction of CYP4A by ethanol was seen in all groups. The highest levels of 11-hydroxy-lauric acid and 19-hydroxyarachidonic acid (omega-1) were seen in rats fed ethanol with palm oil and corn oil. Highly significant correlations were seen between the (omega-1)-hydroxylation products and CYP2E1 activity. No correlation was seen between the omega-hydroxylation products and CYP2E1 activity. In contrast, the levels of omega-hydroxylation products correlated with CYP4A. The overall results showed a significant increase in (omega-1)-hydroxylation products in rats fed diets containing significant amounts of linoleic acid (i.e., palm oil and corn oil).  相似文献

The effect of pre- and postnatal maternal dietary fatty acid composition on neurodevelopment in rat pups was studied. Timed pregnant dams were fed, beginning on d 2 of gestation and throughout lactation, either nonpurified diet (reference) or a purified diet whose fat source (22% of energy) was either corn oil or menhaden fish oil. On postnatal d 3, pups were randomly cross-fostered among dams of the same diet group and culled to 10 pups per dam. Milk was removed from stomachs of culled pups for fatty acid analyses. From postnatal d 4 to 30, pups were assessed daily for the appearance of neurodevelopmental reflexes. Auditory brainstem conduction times were measured on postnatal d 23 and 29. Pups were killed on postnatal d 30, and cerebrums were removed for fatty acid analyses. The fatty acid composition of maternal milk and pup cerebrums reflected maternal diet with higher levels of (n-3) and (n-6) fatty acids in the fish oil and corn oil groups, respectively. The time of appearance of auditory startle was significantly delayed (P = 0.004), and auditory brainstem conduction times on postnatal d 23 and 29 were significantly longer in pups of the fish oil- than corn oil-fed dams (P 相似文献

The effects of dietary fish oil, MaxEPA, and corn oil on insulin sensitivity were examined in male miniature pigs. The pigs (20-35 kg) received 750 g of nonpurified diet per day (160 g/kg protein, 50 g/kg fat) with the addition of either 30 g corn oil or 30 g MaxEPA, resulting in 90 g total fat per kg diet for 4-5 wk. The MaxEPA diet provided 12.6 g (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids per kg diet (6.7 g eicosapentaenoic acid, 4.8 g docosahexaenoic acid), 4.7 g (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids and 147 mg cholesterol. The corn oil diet provided 22.7 g (n-6) polyunsaturated fatty acids per kg diet and no (n-3) polyunsaturated fatty acids; cholesterol was added to equal the amount in the MaxEPA. After overnight withdrawal of food, intravenous glucose tolerance tests were conducted in conscious pigs by using previously placed jugular vein catheters. Plasma glucose responses and the areas under the plasma glucose curves were similar in seven MaxEPA- and five corn oil-fed pigs. However, the incremental areas under the insulin curves were significantly lower for the pigs fed MaxEPA. Thus values for insulin sensitivity (SI), determined with Bergman's minimal model, were significantly higher for MaxEPA than for corn oil-fed pigs, whereas the rate of glucose disappearance (KG), did not differ between the two groups. Therefore, substitution of (n-3) for (n-6) polyunsaturated fatty acids in dietary lipids is associated with enhanced insulin sensitivity in male pigs.  相似文献

A 4 x 5 Youden square design was used to determine the effect of roasting temperature of whole soybeans on escape of CP from the rumen and disappearance of N from the small intestine in steers. Four steers (average BW 373 kg +/- 30.7) cannulated at the rumen, duodenum, and ileum were fed each of five diets (1.8% of BW) over five periods. The basal diet contained corn silage (50% of diet DM), alfalfa hay (24%), corn-urea premix (6%), corn starch grits (16.6%), and soybean oil (3.4%). Soybeans (16% of diet DM), either raw or heated to an exit temperature of 141, 149, or 157 degrees C in a commercial roaster, replaced the soybean oil and most of the corn starch grits in the soybean-containing diets. Ruminal ammonia N was lower (P < .05) for the basal diet than for the soybean-containing diets. Roasting temperature of whole soybeans had no significant impact on ruminal ammonia N. Total N reaching the duodenum was greater (P < .05) for steers fed the soybean diets than for steers fed the basal diet. Non-bacterial N (dietary N) at the duodenum was increased (P < .05) by feeding soybeans. Soybean N reaching the duodenum decreased with increased roasting temperature. Increased roasting temperature of whole soybeans seemed to make the soybeans more brittle, subsequently increasing degradation of CP in the rumen. However, disappearance of soybean N in the small intestine, as a proportion of the soybean N entering the small intestine, increased with increased roasting temperature. Apparent total tract N digestibility was increased (P < .05) by feeding soybeans. Flow to the duodenum and small intestinal digestibility of total, essential, and nonessential amino acids increased (P < .05) when soybeans were fed and when roasted vs raw soybeans were fed. Under normal roasting conditions, it seemed that little potential for heat damage to the soybean protein existed. Instead, undesirable effects of heating on handling characteristics of the soybeans were reached before the point at which loss of nutritive value occurred. Feeding steers diets containing roasted whole soybeans increased the N and amino acids available to steers over steers fed diets containing raw soybeans due to increased ruminal soybean nitrogen escape and increased small intestinal digestibility.  相似文献

The mechanism by which high-fat diet potentiates pancreatic cancer is not known, but trophic hormones may be involved. In preliminary growth studies, hamsters fed a high fat diet (17.5% lard, 17.5% corn oil) for 14 days showed a 16.3% increase (P < 0.01) in pancreatic weight compared to controls on low fat diet (2.5% lard, 2.5% corn oil). A significant increase was also seen at 28 days. Similar increases were seen in pancreatic DNA (29%, P < 0.01) and pancreatic RNA (22%, P < 0.05) at 14 days. Plasma cholecystokinin (CCK) levels at 14 days were 2.5 fold higher in the animals fed high fat (P < 0.01). Infusion of the CCK antagonist MK329 (25 nmol/kg/h) completely abolished the increase in pancreatic weight, pancreatic DNA and pancreatic RNA. The effect of CCK receptor blockade during the initiation period of carcinogenesis was investigated in hamsters fed the same diets used in the growth studies. One hundred animals received a single injection of N-nitrosobis(2-oxopropyl)amine, (BOP, 20 mg/kg). Half of the hamsters in each diet group received a 2 week infusion of MK329 (25 nmol/kg/h), beginning 8 days before carcinogen administration. At the time of death, 55 weeks after carcinogen administration, non-fasting plasma CCK levels were 31% higher in the high fat fed hamsters than in the low fat fed animals (P < 0.01). The high-fat diet group had a 3-fold increase in total cancer incidence and a 5-fold increase in advanced lesions (adenocarcinomas). Tumor incidence and yield were not changed in either diet group by CCK-receptor blockade during the initiation period. Cholecystokinin appears to mediate the short-term trophic effect that high-fat feeding has on the pancreas. However, potentiation of pancreatic cancer by high-fat diet in the hamster cancer model does not appear to be influenced by endogenous cholecystokinin at the time of tumor induction.  相似文献

We examined the effect of voluntary physical exercise (running wheels) on pancreatic carcinogenicity of N-nitrosobis-(2-oxopropyl) amine (BOP) in groups of female Syrian hamsters fed a high-fat (HF) diet in which corn oil was 24.6% of the diet or a low-fat (LF) diet in which corn oil was 4.5% of the diet. Each group was divided into an exercising (EX) group (LF-EX and HF-EX) and a sedentary (S) group (LF-S and HF-S). All hamsters were treated with BOP (20 mg/kg body wt) weekly for two weeks beginning four weeks after the experimental diets, which were fed from weaning. A modified glucose tolerance test was performed before the BOP injections and then again at 20 and 40 weeks, and the levels of glucose, insulin-like growth factor I, and insulin were determined in the plasma samples. At the end of the experiment, serum levels of lipid metabolites were also examined in six hamsters from each group. The experiment was terminated 44 weeks after the BOP treatment. Pancreatic ductal/ductular adenocarcinoma incidence was significantly higher in hamsters fed the HF diet (HF-S and HF-EX) than in those fed the LF diet (LF-S and LF-EX). In all groups, glucose and insulin-like growth factor I levels remained within the normal range throughout the experiment, whereas insulin and lipid metabolite levels were significantly elevated in all hamsters fed the HF diet (HF-S and HF-EX). Exercise significantly reduced the insulin level in the group fed the HF diet but did not influence the cancer burden, possibly by the generation of reactive lipid metabolites. Overall, the results showed that voluntary physical exercise does not influence the promotional action of the HF diet on pancreatic carcinogenesis in hamsters. This action could be attributed to the ability of the HF diet to increase the secretion of insulin, which has a growth-promoting and mitogenic effect on pancreatic cells, and to the effect of an HF diet or physical exercise in producing excess free radicals.  相似文献

Five types of processed corn were compared to determine the effects of processing on lactational performance and nutrient digestibilities in dairy cows. Forty lactating Holstein cows averaging 160 +/- 60 d in milk were randomly divided into five groups on the basis of pretreatment milk yields and were fed diets containing 40% corn grain for 56 d. Treatments were 1) finely ground corn, 2) coarsely ground corn, 3) steam-flaked corn at a low density, 4) steam-flaked corn at a medium density, and 5) steam-rolled corn. Cows fed the diet containing steam-flaked corn at a medium density had a higher milk yield (37.1 kg/d) than did cows fed the diets containing coarsely ground corn, steam-flaked corn at a low density, or steam-rolled corn; cows fed the diet containing finely ground corn had an intermediate milk yield (35.5 kg/d). Efficiency of feed utilization was greater, and dry matter intake was lower, for cows fed the diet containing finely ground corn than for cows fed the other diets. The fat content of milk was higher for cows fed the diets containing coarsely ground corn and steam-rolled corn than for cows fed the diet containing steam-flaked corn at a medium density. Milk protein and SNF contents and yields of protein, lactose, and SNF did not differ among diets. Apparent starch digestibilities in the total digestive tract were lower for diets containing coarsely ground corn (87.4%) and steam-rolled corn (91.3%) than for the other diets (X = 96.3%). Milk yield was highest for cows fed the diet containing steam-flaked corn with a medium density. Fine grinding resulted in the greatest efficiency of feed utilization.  相似文献

Studies in laboratory animals have demonstrated that dietary supplements of organoselenium, 1,4-phenylenebis(methylene)selenocyanate (p-XSC) inhibit colon carcinogenesis. Diverse chemopreventive agents and clinically used anticancer drugs have been shown to induce apoptosis in colonic tumors. Inducing apoptosis is a key mechanism for the effectiveness of some chemopreventive agents; however, failure of apoptosis is now believed to contribute to the development of human cancer. In this study, we determined the number of apoptotic bodies in the colon tumors of rats fed a low-fat (LF) or a high-fat (HF) diet with or without p-XSC treatment. At 5 weeks of age, male F344 rats were divided into four groups, which were then maintained on one of the following diets: LF, 5% corn oil; HF, 23.5% corn oil; and LF and HF supplemented with 20 ppm p-XSC. In addition, the LF or HF diet with p-XSC supplements was administered either during the initiation stage or postinitiation. At 7 weeks of age, all rats except those intended for vehicle (normal saline) treatment were given 15 mg/kg of body weight of azoxymethane once weekly for 2 weeks. The animals were sacrificed 38 weeks after carcinogen treatment, and their colonic tumors were examined for appearance of apoptosis. The LF diet significantly increased the percentage of apoptosis as compared to the HF diet; the percentage of apoptosis in LF and HF diets were 12.4 and 2.9. The colon tumors that were present in the groups fed p-XSC together with a LF or a HF diet after carcinogen administration (postinitiation period) had a higher number of apoptotic bodies than those that were present in the animals fed p-XSC before carcinogen treatment (initiation period). The extent of apoptosis was weak when p-XSC was given with a HF diet (4.4%) during the initiation phase, but it was high significant when p-XSC was administered with LF diet (25.2%). Taken together, our data suggest that administration of LF diet supplemented with p-XSC increases apoptosis as compared to a HF diet alone.  相似文献

We conducted three growth trials to evaluate replacing carbohydrate sources with enzymatically modified potato starches in diets for weanling pigs. In Exp. 1, 180 pigs (initially 5.3 kg and 21+/-2 d of age) were used to compare the effects of corn (36.5%), edible-grade oat flour (36.5%), two enzymatically modified potato starches (12%), and added lactose (12%) on pig performance. Potato Starch 1 had a dextrose equivalent (DE) of 6 and Potato Starch 2 had a DE of 20; both were spray-dried maltodextrans. Pigs that were fed Potato Starch 2 had greater (P<.05) ADG and ADFI than pigs fed diets that contained corn or oat flour from d 0 to 14 after weaning, and pigs fed either Potato Starch 1 or added lactose had intermediate ADG and ADFI. However, for the overall trial (d 0 to 35), no differences (P>.10) in growth performance were observed. In Exp. 2, 198 pigs (initially 4.3 kg and 19+/-2 d of age) were used to determine whether modified Potato Starch 2 could replace a portion of the corn or lactose in the diet. The control diet contained 10% dried whey, and additional treatments were formulated by adding 7 or 14% modified Potato Starch 2 or lactose in place of corn. A positive control diet was formulated containing 29% dried whey. From d 0 to 14 after weaning, increasing dietary lactose improved (linear, P<.04) ADG and ADFI. Increasing the potato starch had no effect on ADG but increased ADFI (linear, P<.02). In Exp. 3, 180 pigs (initially 3.9 kg and 14+/-3 d of age) were used to evaluate Potato Starch 2 or 3 (DE = 30, a spray-dried glucose syrup) as replacements for either corn or lactose in the diet. Pigs were fed a control diet containing 15% dried whey and 12% added lactose. Twelve percent modified Potato Starch 2 or 3 replaced either corn or lactose in the diet on a wt/wt basis. From d 0 to 14 and d 0 to 21, pigs fed either modified potato starch substituted for corn had greater (P<.07) ADG than those fed the control diet. Pigs fed diets with either modified starch substituted for lactose had similar ADG as those fed the control diet. These results suggest that when substituted for corn, Potato Starch 2 can improve growth performance of weanling pigs.  相似文献

Based on previous in vitro results that showed reduced biohydrogenation of oleamide by ruminal microbes, this study was conducted to determine whether the addition of oleamide to the diets of dairy cows would enhance the C18:1 concentration in milk. Nine first lactation Holstein cows were fed three diets in a 3 x 3 Latin square replicated three times. Each period lasted 3 wk. The total mixed diets consisted of 42% corn silage and 58% concentrate (dry matter basis) with either no added fat (control), 3.5% high oleic canola oil, or 3.5% oleamide. Dry matter intake was reduced when oleamide was added to the diet but not when canola oil was added. Milk yields were the same for cows fed all three diets. Canola oil reduced fat-corrected milk yield and milk fat concentration, but these were not affected by oleamide. Milk protein concentration was lower for cows fed oleamide than for cows fed canola oil. Milk C18:1 averaged 23.16% of total fatty acids for cows fed the control diet and increased to 35.13% when canola oil was fed. Oleamide further increased C18:1 to 48.16% of total fatty acids in milk. All fatty acids with > or = 16 carbon chain length were reduced by oleamide. Oleamide was more effective than was canola oil in this study at increasing the oleic acid content of bovine milk. Oleamide reduced dietary intake when added at 3.5% of the dietary dry matter but still had no effect on milk yield or milk composition.  相似文献

We examined the effect of dietary fish oil (MaxEPA) and sunflower seed oil on glucose tolerance in male Wistar rats. Semipurified diets containing 100 g oil/kg diet were administered for 30 d. The fish oil diet contained 26 g (n-3) fatty acids, 16 g eicosapentaenoic acid and 10.4 g docosahexaenoic acid/kg diet. Phospholipids from liver, pancreas, and pancreatic islets were enriched in eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acids by the fish oil diet. In unfed pentobarbital-anesthetized rats, both basal plasma insulin concentration and insulin responses to intravenous glucose were significantly lower for fish oil-fed rats although glucose responses were similar; however, incremental excursions in plasma insulin over the basal concentrations did not differ. Intravenous glucose tolerance was also examined in conscious unfed rats under minimal restraint. Responses of plasma glucose and insulin were similar for fish oil- and sunflower oil-fed groups. Furthermore, in another experiment, intravenous glucose tolerance tests were similar for conscious rats provided with either 100 g fish oil or corn oil/kg nonpurified diet. Thus, glucose-induced insulin secretion is lower in rats fed fish oil than in rats fed sunflower oil, when tests are conducted in pentobarbital-anesthetized animals but not when tests are performed in conscious rats; there was no effect on plasma glucose in either anesthetized or nonanesthetized rats. This experiment examined the effect of complete diets composed of 60% grass silage and 40% concentrate based mainly on beet pulp, ground wheat, wheat treated with NaOH, or ground corn on milk production and ruminal fermentation of dairy cows. Milk production and fat yield were 19.8, 20.7, 20.1, and 21.2 kg/d and 0.71, 0.76, 0.72, and 0.78 kg/d, respectively (18 cows per treatment). Cows fed the diet based on ground corn had higher milk production and fat yield, but lower milk protein concentration, than did cows fed the diet based on beet pulp. Cows fed the diet based on ground corn also had higher fat yields than did cows fed the diet based on wheat treated with NaOH. Cows fed the diet based on ground wheat had lower ruminal pH than did cows fed the diet based on beet pulp (6.34 vs. 6.59) and higher ruminal NH3 concentrations (6.2 vs. 5.2 mmol/L) than did cows fed the diet based on ground corn. These results showed little difference in milk production based on wheat processing method and little advantage to replacing beet pulp with either wheat type in a high forage diet. However, milk production and fat yield were increased by replacing beet pulp with ground corn.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to determine the effects of dietary fat source on duodenal flow, apparent absorption, and milk fat incorporation of trans-C18:1 fatty acids. Four ruminally and duodenally cannulated multiparous Holsteins cows in mid to late lactation were fed a basal diet containing 36% corn silage, 24% alfalfa haylage, and 40% concentrate (dry matter basis). Diets contained 0% supplemental fat (control diet), 3.7% high oleic sunflower oil, 3.7% high linoleic sunflower oil, or 3.7% partially hydrogenated vegetable shortening; treatments were administered in a 4 x 4 Latin square design with 3-wk experimental periods. The flow of trans-C18:1 to the duodenum was higher for cows fed diets supplemented with fat than for cows fed the control diet (283 vs. 64 g/d). Incomplete biohydrogenation accounted for the increased flow of trans-C18:1 to the duodenum in cows fed diets containing high oleic and high linoleic sunflower oil. Increased flow of trans-C18:1 in cows fed the diet containing partially hydrogenated vegetable shortening most likely originated from the trans-C18:1 in the diet. Milk fat percentages were 3.48, 3.07, 3.18, and 3.38% for cows fed the control diet and diets containing high oleic sunflower oil, high linoleic sunflower oil, and vegetable shortening, respectively. Milk trans-C18:1 increased from 2.9 to 11.2% of the total fatty acids for cows fed the control diet and the diets supplemented with fat, respectively. Milk trans-C18:1 were equal across all diets supplemented with fat. Ruminal and total tract digestion of organic matter, neutral detergent fiber, and N did not change with fat supplementation. Results showed that trans-C18:1 is increased in the milk of cows with reduced milk fat; however, excessive amounts of trans-C18:1 in milk do not necessarily correspond directly to milk fat depression.  相似文献

To characterize the link between calcium status and sweet solution intake, rats fed a diet containing 25 mmol Ca2+/kg (Ca-25, low calcium) or 150 mmol Ca2+/kg (Ca-150, control) were given 48-h two-bottle tests with a choice between water and various concentrations of a nutrient (sucrose, Polycose, ethanol and/or corn oil). Rats fed the Ca-25 diet had significantly lower sucrose intakes and preferences over the entire range tested (10-320 g/L) even though the same (Experiment 1), or identically treated (Experiment 2a) rats had normal Polycose and ethanol intakes and normal (Experiment 1, 2b) or significantly greater (Experiment 2a) corn oil intakes. In additional tests, rats fed the Ca-25 diet had significantly lower intakes relative to rats fed the Ca-150 diet of other sweeteners (30 mmol/L D-phenylalanine, 1 mmol/L saccharin and 0.3 mmol/L aspartame), significantly higher intakes of 0.5 mg/L capsaicin and 300 mmol/L monosodium glutamate, and normal intakes of 10 g/L or 80 g/L safflower oil and 10 g/L peanut oil. In a three-cup macronutrient selection experiment (Experiment 3), calcium-deprived rats ate significantly less of a high sucrose carbohydrate source and significantly more of a protein source than did controls. These results suggest that calcium deficiency reduces the rat's liking for sweetness, irrespective of the type or form of sweetener, and that this is not due to a general reduction in energy intake.  相似文献

We have studied the effects of dietary corn and olive oil versus coconut fat on bile formation and fluidity of hepatic plasma membranes in rats. After 4 weeks of feeding the purified diets containing 9% (w/w) of the test fats, there was no difference in plasma cholesterol concentration between the dietary groups. The amount of free and esterified cholesterol in the liver was significantly higher in rats fed either corn oil or olive oil as compared with coconut fat. In the rats fed olive oil, but not in those fed corn oil this was associated with lower rates of biliary phospholipid excretion. Bile flow was not differently influenced by the three dietary fats. Hepatic plasma membranes of the rats fed corn or olive oil contained more cholesterol and less phospholipids than those on coconut fat, which was, however, not accompanied by changes in fluidity of the membranes. These results indicate that in rats the type of dietary fat can induce considerable changes in hepatic cholesterol metabolism without affecting plasma cholesterol concentrations, and without consistent effects on biliary cholesterol secretion.  相似文献
