Saturated flow boiling heat transfer and the associated frictional pressure drop of the ozone friendly refrigerant R-410A (a mixture of 50 wt% R-32 and 50 wt% R-125) flowing in a vertical plate heat exchanger (PHE) are investigated experimentally in the study. In the experiment two vertical counter flow channels are formed in the exchanger by three plates of commercial geometry with a corrugated sinusoidal shape of a chevron angle of 60°. Upflow boiling of saturated refrigerant R-410A in one channel receives heat from the downflow of hot water in the other channel. The experimental parameters in this study include the refrigerant R-410A mass flux ranging from 50 to 125 kg/m2 s and imposed heat flux from 5 to 35 kW/m2 for the system pressure fixed at 1.08, 1.25 and 1.44 MPa, which respectively correspond to the saturated temperatures of 10, 15 and 20 °C. The measured data showed that both the boiling heat transfer coefficient and frictional pressure drop increase almost linearly with the imposed heat flux. Furthermore, the refrigerant mass flux exhibits significant effect on the saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient only at higher imposed heat flux. For a rise of the refrigerant pressure from 1.08 to 1.44 MPa, the frictional pressure drops are found to be lower to a noticeable degree. However, the refrigerant pressure has very slight influences on the saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient. Finally, empirical correlations are proposed to correlate the present data for the saturated boiling heat transfer coefficients and friction factor in terms of the Boiling number and equivalent Reynolds number.  相似文献

An experiment was carried out to investigate the characteristics of the evaporation heat transfer and pressure drop for refrigerant R-134a flowing in a horizontal small circular pipe having an inside diameter of 2.0 mm. The data are useful in designing more compact and effective evaporators for various refrigeration and air conditioning systems. The effects of the imposed wall heat flux, mass flux, vapor quality and saturation temperature of R-134a on the measured evaporation heat transfer and pressure drop were examined in detail. When compared with the data for larger pipes (Di ≥ 8.0 mm) reported in the literature, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient for the small pipe considered here is about 30–80% higher for most situations. Moreover, we noted that in the small pipe the evaporation heat transfer coefficient is higher at a higher imposed wall heat flux except in the high vapor quality region, at a higher saturation temperature, and at a higher mass flux when the imposed heat flux is low. In addition, the measured pressure drop is higher for increases in the mass flux and imposed wall heat flux. Based on the present data, empirical correlations were proposed for the evaporation heat transfer coefficients and friction factors.  相似文献

The evaporation heat transfer experiments were conducted with an oblong shell and plate heat exchanger without oil in the refrigerant loop using R-410A, a mixture of 50 wt% R-32 and 50 wt% R-125 that exhibits azeotropic behavior. An experimental refrigerant loop has been established to measure the evaporation heat transfer coefficient h r of R-410A in a vertical oblong shell and plate heat exchanger. Four vertical counter-flow channels were formed in the oblong shell and plate heat exchanger by four plates having a corrugated trapezoid shape of a 45° chevron angle. The upflow of the boiling R-410A in one channel receives heat from the hot downflow of water in the other channel. The effects of the refrigerant mass flux, average heat flux, refrigerant saturation temperature, and vapor quality of R-410A on the measured data were explored in detail. The results indicate that a rise in the refrigerant mass flux causes an increase in the h r . Raising the imposed wall heat flux was found to slightly improve h r . Finally, at a higher refrigerant saturation temperature, the h r is found to be lower. Based on the present data, an empirical correlation of the evaporation heat transfer coefficient was proposed.  相似文献

Subcooled flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of refrigerant R-134a in a vertical plate heat exchanger (PHE) are investigated experimentally in this study. Besides, the associated bubble characteristics are also inspected by visualizing the boiling flow in the vertical PHE. In the experiment two vertical counterflow channels are formed in the exchanger by three plates of commercial geometry with a corrugated sinusoidal shape of a chevron angle of 60°. Upflow boiling of subcooled refrigerant R-134a in one channel receives heat from the downflow of hot water in the other channel. The effects of the boiling heat flux, refrigerant mass flux, system pressure and inlet subcooling of R-134a on the subcooled boiling heat transfer are explored in detail. The results are presented in terms of the boiling curves and heat transfer coefficients. The measured data showed that the slopes of the boiling curves change significantly during the onset of nucleate boiling (ONB) especially at low mass flux and high saturation temperature. Besides, the boiling hysteresis is significant at a low refrigerant mass flux. The subcooled boiling heat transfer coefficient is affected noticeably by the mass flux of the refrigerant. However, increases in the inlet subcooling and saturation temperature only show slight improvement on the boiling heat transfer coefficient. The photos from the flow visualization reveal that at higher imposed heat flux the plate surface is covered with more bubbles and the bubble generation frequency is substantially higher, and the bubbles tend to coalesce to form big bubbles. But these big bubbles are prone to breaking up into small bubbles as they move over the corrugated plate, producing strong agitating flow motion and hence enhancing the boiling heat transfer. We also note that the bubbles nucleated from the plate are suppressed to a larger degree for higher inlet subcooling and mass flux. Finally, empirical correlations are proposed to correlate the present data for the heat transfer coefficient and the bubble departure diameter in terms of boiling, Froude, Reynolds and Jakob numbers.  相似文献

The characteristics of local heat transfer and pressure drops were experimentally investigated using condensing R134a two-phase flow, in single rectangular tubes, with hydraulic diameter of 0.494, 0.658, and 0.972 mm. New experimental techniques were used to measure the in-tube condensation heat transfer coefficient especially for the low heat and mass flows. Tests were performed for a mass flux of 100, 200, 400, and 600 kg/m2s, a heat flux of 5 to 20 kW/m2, and a saturation temperature of 40℃. In this study, effect of heat flux, mass flux, vapor qualities, and hydraulic diameter on flow condensation were investigated and the experimental local condensation heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drop are shown. The experimental data of condensation Nusselt number are compared with previous correlations, most of which are proposed for the condensation of pure refrigerant in a relatively large inner diameter round tubes.  相似文献

Heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of four microfin tubes were experimentally investigated for condensation of refrigerants R134a, R22, and R410A in four different test sections. The microfin tubes examined during this study consisted of 8.92, 6.46, 5.1, and 4 mm maximum inside diameter. The effect of mass flux, vapor quality, and refrigerants on condensation was investigated in terms of the heat transfer enhancement factor and the pressure drop penalty factor. The pressure drop penalty factor and the heat transfer enhancement factor showed a similar tendency for each tube at given vapor quality and mass flux. Based on the experimental data and the heat-momentum analogy, correlations for the condensation heat transfer coefficients in an annular flow regime and the frictional pressure drops are proposed.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental study of two phase flow condensation of some alternative zeotropic refrigerant mixtures to R-22, inside air/refrigerant horizontal enhanced surface tubing. The alternatives considered in this study are; R-507, R-404A, R-407C, and R-408A as well as R-410A. It was evident from the condensation experimental data that R-408A has the highest heat transfer rate compared to the other blends under the investigated range of refrigerant mass flow rates and heat flux. However, when the thermophysical properties are factored in, the condensation data showed that R-410A has the highest heat transfer rate at Reynolds number higher than 2.35E+7 Furthermore, experimental data of two phase condensation pressure gradient data across the test section at different Reynolds numbers showed that R-410A has the highest convective pressure drop among the blends under investigation.  相似文献

This paper presents the heat transfer coefficients and the pressure drop measured during HFC refrigerants 236fa, 134a and 410A saturated vapour condensation inside a brazed plate heat exchanger: the effects of saturation temperature (pressure), refrigerant mass flux and fluid properties are investigated. The heat transfer coefficients show weak sensitivity to saturation temperature (pressure) and great sensitivity to refrigerant mass flux and fluid properties. A transition point between gravity controlled and forced convection condensation has been found for a refrigerant mass flux around 20 kg/m2s that corresponds to an equivalent Reynolds number around 1600–1700. At low refrigerant mass flux (Gr < 20 kg/m2s) the heat transfer coefficients are not dependent on mass flux and are well predicted by the Nusselt [20] analysis for vertical surface: the condensation process is gravity controlled. For higher refrigerant mass flux (Gr > 20 kg/m2s) the heat transfer coefficients depend on mass flux and are well predicted by Akers et al. [21] equation: forced convection condensation occurs. In the forced convection condensation region the heat transfer coefficients show a 25–30% increase for a doubling of the refrigerant mass flux. The frictional pressure drop shows a linear dependence on the kinetic energy per unit volume of the refrigerant flow and therefore a quadratic dependence on mass flux.HFC-410A shows heat transfer coefficients similar to HFC-134a and 10% higher than HFC-236fa together with frictional pressure drops 40-50% lower than HFC-134a and 50–60% lower than HFC-236fa.  相似文献

Experiments are conducted here to investigate how the channel size affects the R-410A saturated flow boiling heat transfer and associated bubble characteristics in a horizontal narrow annular duct. The gap of the duct is fixed at 1.0 and 2.0 mm in this study. The measured data indicate that the saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing refrigerant mass flux and saturated temperature and with a decrease in the gap size. Besides, raising the imposed heat flux can cause a significant increase in the boiling heat transfer coefficient. The results from the flow visualization show that the mean diameter of the bubbles departing from the heating surface decreases slightly with increasing refrigerant mass flux and saturated temperature. Moreover, the bubble departure frequency increases at reducing duct size and increasing mass flux. And at a high imposed heat flux many bubbles generated from the cavities in the heating surface tend to merge together to form big bubbles. Meanwhile, comparisons of the present heat transfer data for R-410A with R-407C and R-134a in the same duct and with some existing correlations are conducted. Furthermore, an empirical correlation for the present R-410A saturated flow boiling heat transfer data is proposed.  相似文献

The primary heat transfer parameters such as coefficient of heat transfer and pressure drop observed during condensation of binary azeotropic refrigerant mixtures R-410a (R125/R32: 50/50), and R-507 (R125/R143a: 50/50) are presented in this paper.Experiments showed that for Reynolds numbers higher than 4.2 E06, R-410a appears to have greater heat transfer rates more than the other blends under investigation. Furthermore, it is quite evident from this data that R-507 has the highest pressure drop among the refrigerants under investigation.  相似文献

The two-phase heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop of pure HFC-134a condensing inside a smooth helically coiled concentric tube-in-tube heat exchanger are experimentally investigated. The test section is a 5.786 m long helically coiled double tube with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and cooling water flowing in the annulus. The inner tube is made from smooth copper tubing of 9.52 mm outer diameter and 8.3 mm inner diameter. The outer tube is made from smooth copper tubing of 23.2 mm outer diameter and 21.2 mm inner diameter. The heat exchanger is fabricated by bending a straight copper double-concentric tube into a helical coil of six turns. The diameter of coil is 305 mm. The pitch of coil is 35 mm. The test runs are done at average saturation condensing temperatures ranging between 40 and 50 °C. The mass fluxes are between 400 and 800 kg m−2 s−1 and the heat fluxes are between 5 and 10 kW m−2. The pressure drop across the test section is directly measured by a differential pressure transducer. The quality of the refrigerant in the test section is calculated using the temperature and pressure obtained from the experiment. The average heat transfer coefficient of the refrigerant is determined by applying an energy balance based on the energy rejected from the test section. The effects of heat flux, mass flux and, condensation temperature on the heat transfer coefficients and pressure drop are also discussed. It is found that the percentage increase of the average heat transfer coefficient and the pressure drop of the helically coiled concentric tube-in-tube heat exchanger, compared with that of the straight tube-in-tube heat exchanger, are in the range of 33–53% and 29–46%, respectively. New correlations for the condensation heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop are proposed for practical applications.  相似文献

An experiment is conducted here to investigate the saturated flow boiling heat transfer characteristics of ozone friendly refrigerant R-410A in a horizontal annular finned duct. Meanwhile the associated bubble characteristics in the duct are also inspected from the flow visualization. The experimental data are presented in terms of saturated flow boiling curves, boiling heat transfer coefficients and flow photos. In addition, empirical correlation equations for the saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient and mean bubble departure diameter are proposed. The saturated flow boiling curves show that boiling hysteresis is insignificant in the flow and the wall superheat needed for the onset of nucleate boiling is slightly affected by the refrigerant mass flux. Besides, the boiling curves are mainly affected by the imposed heat flux and refrigerant mass flux. Moreover, the measured saturated flow boiling heat transfer coefficient increases with the imposed heat flux and refrigerant mass flux. Furthermore, at a higher refrigerant mass flux the departing bubbles are smaller.  相似文献

Experiments on the evaporative heat transfer and pressure drop in the brazed plate heat exchangers were performed with refrigerants R410A and R22. The plate heat exchangers with different 45°, 35°, and 20° chevron angles are used. Varying the mass flux of refrigerant (13–34 kg/m2 s), the evaporating temperature (5, 10 and 15 °C), the vapor quality (0.9–0.15) and heat flux (2.5, 5.5 and 8.5 kW/m2), the evaporation heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops were measured. The heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing vapor quality and decreasing evaporating temperature at a given mass flux in all plate heat exchangers. The pressure drop increases with increasing mass flux and quality and with decreasing evaporating temperature and chevron angle. It is found that the heat transfer coefficients of R410A are larger than those of R22 and the pressure drops of R410A are less than those of R22. The empirical correlations of Nusselt number and friction factor are suggested for the tested PHEs. The deviations between correlations and experimental data are within ±25% for Nusselt number and ±15% for friction factor.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

The present study investigated the evaporation heat transfer coefficients of R-446A, as a low global warming potential alternative refrigerant to R-410A. The evaporation heat transfer coefficients were obtained by measuring the wall temperature of a straight stainless tube and refrigerant pressure. The heat transfer coefficients were measured for the quality range from 0.05 to 0.95, the mass flux from 100 to 400 kg/m2s, heat flux from 10 to 30 kW/m2, and saturation temperature from 5 to 10°C. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-410A was verified by comparing the measured evaporation heat transfer coefficient with the value predicted by the existing correlation. The evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-446A was measured using a proven experimental apparatus. When the heat flux was 10 kW/m2, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-446A was always higher than that of R-410A. But, when the heat flux was 30 kW/m2, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient of R-446A was measured to be lower than that of R-410A near the dry-out point. The effect of the tube diameter on the R-446A evaporation heat transfer coefficient was negligible. The effect of saturation pressure on the evaporation heat transfer coefficient was prominent in the low quality region where the nucleate boiling was dominant.  相似文献

In this paper, a numerical study of the impact of the transport properties on the condensation characteristics of certain refrigerant mixtures is presented. New correlations have been developed to calculate the thermal conductivity and viscosity of some alternative refrigerant mixtures such as R-507, R-404A, R-407C, and R-410A. In addition, new improved condensation correlations have been developed and presented for predicting the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop. The results clearly showed that the condensation characteristics were well predicted using the newly proposed correlations with mean deviation of ±10 and 20% for the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop respectively. New correlations of the two-phase multiplier and heat transfer coefficient of R134a during evaporation in a multiport minichannel at low mass flux are proposed. The experimental results were obtained from a test using a counter-flow tube-in-tube heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner tube and hot water in the gap between the outer and inner tubes. Test section is composed of the extruded multiport aluminium inner tube with an internal hydraulic diameter of 1.2 mm and an acrylic outer tube with an internal hydraulic diameter of 25.4 mm. The experiments were performed at heat fluxes between 10 and 35 kW/m2, and a refrigerant mass flux between 45 and 155 kg/(m2 s). Some physical parameters that influenced the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient are examined and discussed in detail. The pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient results are also compared with existing correlations. Finally, new correlations for predicting the frictional pressure drop and heat transfer coefficient at low mass fluxes are proposed.  相似文献

In this paper, an analytical study on the influence of thermophysical properties on heat transfer characteristics of two-phase flow boiling of some refrigerant mixtures in air/refrigerant horizontal enhanced surface tubing is presented.Correlations were proposed to predict the thermophysical properties of refrigerant mixtures such as thermal conductivity and viscosity as well as their impact on the heat transfer characteristics such as average heat transfer coefficients, and pressure drops of R-507, R-404A, R-410A, and R-407C in two-phase flow boiling inside enhanced surface tubing. In addition, it was found that the refrigerant mixture's pressure drop is a weak function of the mixture's composition. It was also evident that the proposed improved correlations for predicting the thermophysical properties were applicable to the entire heat and mass flux, investigated in the present study. The deviation between the experimental and predicted value using new and improved correlations for the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop were <±20 %, for the majority of data.  相似文献

An experiment is carried out here to investigate the characteristics of the evaporation heat transfer for refrigerants R-134a and R-407C flowing in horizontal small tubes having the same inside diameter of 0.83 or 2.0 mm. In the experiment for the 2.0-mm tubes, the refrigerant mass flux G is varied from 200 to 400 kg/m2 s, imposed heat flux q from 5 to 15 kW/m2, inlet vapor quality xin from 0.2 to 0.8 and refrigerant saturation temperature Tsat from 5 to 15 °C. While for the 0.83-mm tubes, G is varied from 800 to 1500 kg/m2 s with the other parameters varied in the same ranges as those for Di = 2.0 mm. In the study the effects of the refrigerant vapor quality, mass flux, saturation temperature and imposed heat flux on the measured evaporation heat transfer coefficient hr are examined in detail. The experimental data clearly show that both the R-134a and R-407C evaporation heat transfer coefficients increase almost linearly and significantly with the vapor quality of the refrigerant, except at low mass flux and high heat flux. Besides, the evaporation heat transfer coefficients also increase substantially with the rises in the imposed heat flux, refrigerant mass flux and saturation temperature. At low R-134a mass flux and high imposed heat flux the evaporation heat transfer coefficient in the smaller tubes (Di = 0.83 mm) may decline at increasing vapor quality when the quality is high, due to the partial dryout of the refrigerant flow in the smaller tubes at these conditions. We also note that under the same xin, Tsat, G, q and Di, refrigerant R-407C has a higher hr when compared with that for R-134a. Finally, an empirical correlation for the R-134a and R-407C evaporation heat transfer coefficients in the small tubes is proposed.  相似文献

The two-phase pressure drop characteristics of the pure refrigerants R410a, R502, and R507a during condensation inside a horizontal tube-in-tube heat exchanger were investigated to determine the two-phase friction factor, the frictional pressure drop, and the total pressure drop. The two-phase friction factor and frictional pressure drop are predicted by means of an equivalent Reynolds number model. Eckels and Pate's experimental data, presented in Choi et al.'s study provided by NIST, were used in the analysis. In their experimental setup, the horizontal test section was a 3.81 m long countercurrent flow double tube heat exchanger with refrigerant flowing in the inner smooth copper tube (8.01 mm i.d.) and cooling water flowing in the annulus (13.7 mm i.d.). Their test runs were performed at saturated condensing temperatures from 38.33 °C to 51.78 °C while the mass fluxes were between 119 and 617 kg m−2 s−1 for the horizontal test section. The separated flow model was modified by ten different void fraction models and correlations, as well as six different correlations of friction factors, in order to determine the best combination for the validation of the experimental pressure drop values. Carey's friction factor was found to be the most predictive. The refrigerant side total and frictional pressure drops were determined within ± 30% using the above friction factor and the void fraction combinations of Carey, Baroczy, and Armand for R410a; and those of Carey, Spedding and Spence, and Rigot for R502 and R507a. The equivalent Reynolds number model was modified using the void fraction correlation of Rigot in order to determine the frictional condensation pressure drop and the two-phase friction factor. The effects of vapor quality and mass flux on the pressure drop are discussed in this paper. The importance of using the alternative void fraction and friction factor models and correlations for the separated flow model is also addressed.  相似文献

An experiment is carried out here to investigate the evaporation heat transfer and associated evaporating flow pattern for refrigerant R-134a flowing in a horizontal narrow annular duct. The gap of the duct is fixed at 1.0 and 2.0 mm. In the experiment, the effects of the duct gap, refrigerant vapor quality, mass flux and saturation temperature and imposed heat flux on the measured evaporation heat transfer coefficient hr are examined in detail. For the duct gap of 2.0 mm, the refrigerant mass flux G is varied from 300 to 500 kg/m2 s, imposed heat flux q from 5 to 15 kW/m2, vapor quality xm from 0.05 to 0.95, and refrigerant saturation temperature Tsat from 5 to 15 °C. While for the gap of 1.0 mm, G is varied from 500 to 700 kg/m2 s with the other parameters varied in the same ranges as that for δ = 2.0 mm. The experimental data clearly show that the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increases almost linearly with the vapor quality of the refrigerant and the increase is more significant at a higher G. Besides, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient also rises substantially at increasing q. Moreover, a significant increase in the evaporation heat transfer coefficient results for a rise in Tsat, but the effects are less pronounced in the narrower duct at a low imposed heat flux and a high refrigerant mass flux. Furthermore, the evaporation heat transfer coefficient increases substantially with the refrigerant mass flux except at low vapor quality. We also note that reducing the duct gap causes a significant increase in hr. In addition to the heat transfer data, photos of R-134a evaporating flow taken from the duct side show the change of the dominant two-phase flow pattern in the duct with the experimental parameters. Finally, an empirical correlation for the present measured heat transfer coefficient for the R-134a evaporation in the narrow annular ducts is proposed.  相似文献
