For the first time, we demonstrate a novel passively mode-locked fiber laser operating at 1300 nm using purified single-walled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as a saturable absorber. The saturable absorber incorporates diameter-controlled CNTs with peak absorption /spl sim/1300 nm, guaranteeing mode-locking over the same wavelength region. The ring laser uses praseodymium-doped fiber as a gain medium. The pulse repetition rate is 3.18 MHz, and the spectral half-width is 0.15 nm. Dual-wavelength mode-locking is also demonstrated with a channel spacing of 1.1 nm. 相似文献

The passive Q-switching and mode-locking modes are implemented in two-section lasers with three quantum wells. It is demonstrated that raising the reverse bias on the absorbing section changes its spectral and dynamic properties and, accordingly, leads to a change from the Q-switching mode to mode-locking. The pulse-repetition frequency in the mode-locking mode is 75 GHz, with the product of the pulse duration by the spectrum bandwidth being 0.49, which is close to the theoretical limit. It is shown that, in structures with three quantum wells, strong absorption at the lasing wavelength gives rise to a photocurrent across a section of the saturable absorber, which is sufficient for compensation of the applied bias. 相似文献

Picosecond pulses are produced using a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror in a laser based on an Er-Yb codoped planar waveguide amplifier. Continuous-wave mode-locking (CWML) with 9.8-ps pulses is obtained at repetition rates up to 100 MHz. With intracavity spectral filtering, saturable pulsewidths of 1 ps are achieved, and tunable picosecond pulses are obtained from 1534 to 1553 nm. Absorber characterization suggests that two-photon absorption within the saturable absorber mirror influences the CWML stability 相似文献

A straightforward theory is presented for the passive mode locking of TE CO2 lasers starting from spontaneous emission. Experimental measurements using a p-type germanium saturable absorber are in excellent agreement with the theoretical predictions. It is, therefore, possible to predict the quantitative effect on the mode-locking behavior of varying such parameters as the laser gain, linear and nonlinear losses, and the laser beam area ratio at the amplifier and absorber. The analysis presented indicates that it should be possible to obtain 10-15 ps duration pulses from multiatmosphere (≳5 atm) CO2 amplifiers once the correct choice of the mode-locking parameters has been made. 相似文献

Locking characteristics of a subharmonically hybrid mode-locked (SH-ML) semiconductor laser are investigated experimentally. The locking bandwidths under the second- and third-order SH-ML operation, as well as under fundamental hybrid mode-locking (FH-ML) condition, are characterized with a variety of microwave power and reverse bias voltage applied to the saturable absorber of the laser. Unique locking characteristics are observed for the third-order SH-ML where the locking bandwidth increases with increasing reverse bias, which is opposite to the FH-ML case. This leads to a locking bandwidth of 56 MHz, 2.3 times broader than that for the FH-ML under the shortest pulse condition. 相似文献

A novel two-mode bistable laser diode (TMBLD) with an asymmetric cavity configuration is proposed and analyzed. It consists of a gain region, a saturable absorber region, and a set of mode-selective mirrors (or filters). These elements are arranged such that the saturable absorber acts as an intracavity loss for one mode and a bleachable absorber external to the cavity of the other mode. Both modes share the same gain medium and compete for the same gain. Bleaching of the absorber leads to a switching of the modes and possible bistability. This two-mode bistability results from the complementary processes of mode competition in the gain section and the mode-dependent effective cross section of the saturable absorber. A rate equation analysis of the device indicates that a switching time less than 200 ps and a modulation rate over 3 Gb/s should be obtainable 相似文献

基于单壁碳纳米管(SWCNTs)作为光学可饱和吸收体(SA)的恢复时间快(<1ps)、饱和光强低、锁模自启动、工作光谱范围宽且制备方法简单、成本低、化学稳定性好、易与光纤兼容等优点,利用SWCNTs-SA实现了稳定脉冲序列输出的实验结果。利用聚甲基丙烯酸甲酯(PMMA)易成膜且机械性能良好的特点,将SWCNTs与PMMA一起分散在二氯化苯(DCB)溶液中,运用光学诱导作用将SWCNTs吸附在单模光纤(SMF)端面,并加热固化成膜。在光纤激光器环形腔结构中引入SWCNT/PMMA薄膜作为SA,获得了具有稳定的重复频率为8.366MHz的基频锁模脉冲序列,其中心波长在1 562nm,脉冲宽度为1.2ps。 相似文献

报道了一种环形腔全光纤掺Yb3+光纤(YDF)激光器的中出现的多波长锁模现象。在腔内无任何选频元件或常规可饱和吸收体的情况下,仅靠YDF的非均匀加宽效应以及增益光纤未泵浦部分的等效可饱和吸收作用实现了稳定的多波长锁模输出,并进行了相关的分析。当泵浦功率为128mW时,得到了稳定的平均功率为1.5mW、重复频率为14.85MHz的基频锁模脉冲序列,边模抑制比为60dB。当泵浦功率逐步增加时,依然可以获得稳定的锁模脉冲,其光谱出现了多个波长峰值,中心波长在1 035nm左右,波长间隔平均为1.5nm,调整偏振控制器(PC),波长数和波长间隔会发生相应的改变。最大泵浦功率达到330mW时,可得到6个等间距的波长输出,平均输出功率为7.23mW。 相似文献

A high pulse energy passively mode-locking fiber laser operating in the soliton-like regime is demonstrated. The laser is based on a linear cavity design. A segment of Yb-doped single-polarization large-mode-area photonic crystal fiber serves as the gain medium, and the self-starting mode-locking is achieved by a high contrast semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The laser directly generates 600-fs pulses with 900 mW of average power at a repetition rate of 47.3 MHz, corresponding to a single pulse energy of 19 nJ. Furthermore, this fiber laser is directly used for pumping ZnTe to generate broadband terahertz radiation, resulting in a compact terahertz source. 相似文献

We demonstrate a bi-doped fiber laser with dispersion compensation provided by a linearly chirped fiber Bragg grating. Reliable self-starting mode-locking was achieved by using an InGaAsN semiconductor saturable absorber mirror. The all-fiber laser generated short optical pulses with a duration of 1.9 ps at ~ 1165 nm. The large anomalous dispersion of the fiber grating ensured operation in the soliton pulse regime. This in turn enabled us to increase the repetition rate of the output pulse train up to 100.6 MHz via harmonic mode-locking. 相似文献

We fabricated monolithic passively mode-locked laser diodes with bandgap-wavelength detuned saturable absorbers using selective growth. The pulsewidth shortened with increasing detuning of the absorber toward shorter wavelengths. For the detuned absorber, the pulsewidth was reduced to 1.2 ps, compared to 2.6 ps for the nondetuned absorber. This originated in broadened mode-locked spectra and reduced absorption recovery time under larger reverse bias voltages for detuned saturable absorbers 相似文献
