A novel horn antenna based on a circular groove guide is analyzed and measured at Ku-band and Ka-band, respectively. This horn antenna can cover a frequency range from 14 to 40 GHz. Its optimum dimension was obtained according to the maximum directivity. The antenna can be matched efficiently to free space through its large aperture. Moreover, its input VSWR is low. A full-wave characterization of the groove guide having a conductor strip is made based on the mode-matching procedure. All of the constituents of the structure, including a coupling strip, grooves and a radiating open end, are treated in a concise and rigorous way by using the generalized scattering matrix technique. Numerical results show that a set of channel guide leaky modes is also present in this structure in addition to the groove guide leaky mode. The dispersion and loss characteristics of groove guide with arbitrary shapes are analyzed with high-order finite element method. The effectiveness and the reliablity of the method are verified by the experiments and the results obtained by other methods. Groove guides with various groove shapes, such as rectangular, triangular, parabolic, elliptic and cosine functions, are investigated systematically. The calculating results show that the dispersion of groove guide with different groove shape is almost the same, however, the loss characteristics is rather different; among them, V-shape groove guide has the lowest loss which is about half of the rectangular one. All the curves and the data given in this paper can be used in designing elements and circuits of the groove guide.  相似文献

The use of a V-groove guide has been investigated and compared with rectangular-groove guide. The V-groove guide is found to be superior. It has lower attenuation and rejects higher-order modes more effectively. Connection losses are small, and guide losses are around 0.4 dB/m at 96 GHz for an aluminium machined guide even with intermediate connections. For a 90° V-groove of depth equal to 0.4 of the plane separation, the guide wavelength is about 1% larger than the free-space wavelength. It is expected that the V-groove guide will provide a valuable single-mode low-loss and wideband waveguide for millimetrewave propagation.  相似文献

A novel concept of integrating solid-state devices with H-groove and fence guides at millimetre wavelengths is described. Microstrip circuits containing beam-lead diodes are inserted parallel to the sidewalls in the centre of the guides.
