This article reports the synthesis, characterization, and ion exchange properties of a terpolymer. The terpolymer resin salicylic acid‐diaminonaphthalein‐formaldehyde (SDNF) was synthesized by the condensation of salicylic acid and diaminonaphthalein with formaldehyde in the presence of a hydrochloric acid catalyst. Terpolymer resin was characterized by elemental analysis, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and UV–Visible spectral studies. The number average molecular weight of the resin was determined by nonaqueous conductometric titration. Chelation ion exchange properties have also been studied for Fe3+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, Pb2+ ions employing a batch equilibrium method. It was employed to study the selectivity of metal ion uptake involving the measurements of distribution of a given metal ion between the polymer sample and a solution containing the metal ion. The study was carried out over wide pH range and in a media of various ionic strengths. The terpolymer showed higher selectivity for Fe3+, Cu2+, and Ni2+ions than for Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ ions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

A novel polymeric ligand having 2,2′:6′,2″‐terpyridine as pendant group was prepared through a Williamson type etherification approach for the reaction between 4′‐hydroxy‐2,2′: 6′,2″‐terpyridine and the commercially available 4‐chloromethyl polystyrene. The chelating properties of the new polymer toward the divalent metal ions (Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, and Pb2+) in aqueous solutions was studied by a batch equilibration technique as a function of contact time, pH, mass of resin, and concentration of metal ions. The amount of metal‐ion uptake of the polymer was determined by using atomic absorption spectrometry. Results of the study revealed that the resin exhibited higher capacities and a more pronounced adsorption toward Pb2+ and that the metal‐ion uptake follows the order: Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Ni2+. The adsorption and binding capacity of the resin toward the various metal ions investigated are discussed. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

Chromatographic column separations of toxic metal ions from industrial wastewater were achieved in acid media at optimized (Kd) values with a synthesized cation exchange TABA resin. The prepared TABA resin was characterized by FTIR, elemental, and thermogravimetric analysis. Studies of total ion exchange capacity, resin durability, and swelling were carried out. The distribution coefficient values of metal ions, viz Cu2+, Fe2+, Zn2+, Cd2+ and Pb2+ at different pH, were also studied using a batch equilibration method. The different factors affecting metal ions adsorption on this substrate, such as treatment time, agitation speed, and temperature, were studied in detail.  相似文献

Single and binary metal systems were employed to investigate the removal characteristics of Pb2+, Cu2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ by Chlorella sp. HA-1 that were isolated from a CO2 fixation process. Adsorption test of single metal systems showed that the maximum metal uptakes were 0.767 mmol Pb2+, 0.450 mmol Cd2+, 0.334 mmol Cu2+ and 0.389 mmol Zn2+ per gram of dry cell. In the binary metal systems, the metal ions on Chlorella sp. HA-1 were adsorbed selectively according to their adsorption characteristics. Pb2+ ions significantly inhibited the adsorption of Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+ ions, while Cu2+ ions decreased remarkably the metal uptake of Cd2+ and Zn2+ ions. The relative adsorption between Cd2+ and Zn2+ ions was reduced similarly by the presence of the other metal ions.  相似文献

A new polystyrene-supported ethylenediaminediacetic acid resin has been synthesized through a reaction between the amination of the commercially available 4-chloromethyl polystyrene polymer with ethylenediamine and the subsequent carboxymethylation with monobromoacetic acid, using ethylenediamine as spacer. The chelation behavior of this resin toward the divalent metal ions Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ in aqueous solutions was investigated. Batch equilibration experiments were carried out as a function of contact time, pH, amount of metal-ion, and polymer mass. The amount of metal-ion uptake of the polymer was determined by using atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS). Results of the investigation revealed that the resin exhibited higher capacities and a more pronounced adsorption toward Cu2+ and that the metal-ion uptake follows the order: Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Ni2+ > Pb2+. The adsorption and binding capacity of the resin toward the various metal ions investigated are discussed.  相似文献

Copolymers (8‐HQ5‐SAOF) were synthesized by the condensation of 8‐hydroxyquinoline 5‐sulphonic acid (8‐HQ5‐SA) and oxamide (O) with formaldehyde (F) in the presence of acid catalyst. Four different copolymers were synthesized by using varied molar proportion of the reacting monomers. Copolymer resin composition has been determined on the basis of their elemental analysis and average molecular weights of these resins were determined by conductometric titration in nonaqueous medium. Viscometric measurement in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) has been carried out with a view to ascertain the characteristic functions and constants. Electronic spectra, FTIR, and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectra were studied to elucidate the structures. The newly synthesized copolymer proved to be a selective chelating ion‐exchange copolymer for certain metals. The chelating ion‐exchange properties of this synthesized copolymer was studied for different metal ions such as Fe3+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+. A batch equilibrium method was used in the study of the selectivity of metal ion uptake involving the measurements of the distribution of a given metal ion between the copolymer sample and a solution containing the metal ion only for representative copolymer 8‐HQ5‐SAOF‐I due to economy of space. The study was carried out over a wide pH range, shaking time, and in media of various ionic strengths. The copolymer showed a higher selectivity for Fe3+, Cu2+, and Ni2+ ions than for Co2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ ions. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

Chelating resins have been considered to be suitable materials for the recovery of heavy metals in water treatments. A chelating resin based on modified poly(styrene‐alt‐maleic anhydride) with 2‐aminopyridine was synthesized. This modified resin was further reacted with 1,2‐diaminoethan or 1,3‐diaminopropane in the presence of ultrasonic irradiation for the preparation of a tridimensional chelating resin on the nanoscale for the recovery of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. The adsorption behavior of Fe2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ ions were investigated by the synthesis of chelating resins at various pH's. The prepared resins showed a good tendency for removing the selected metal ions from aqueous solution, even at acidic pH. Also, the prepared resins were examined for the removal of metal ions from industrial wastewater and were shown to be very efficient at adsorption in the cases of Cu2+, Fe2+, and Pb2+. However; the adsorption of Zn2+ was lower than those of the others. The resin was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X‐ray diffraction analysis, and differential scanning calorimetry analysis. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The aim of this study was to prepare magnetic beads that could be used for the removal of heavy‐metal ions from synthetic solutions. Magnetic poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate–1‐vinyl‐1,2,4‐triazole) [m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ)] beads were produced by suspension polymerization in the presence of a magnetite Fe3O4 nanopowder. The specific surface area of the m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads was 74.8 m2/g with a diameter range of 150–200 μm, and the swelling ratio was 84%. The average Fe3O4 content of the resulting m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads was 14.8%. The maximum binding capacities of the m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads from aquous solution were 284.3 mg/g for Hg2+, 193.8 mg/g for Pb2+, 151.5 mg/g for Cu2+, 128.1 mg/g for Cd2+, and 99.4 mg/g for Zn2+. The affinity order on a mass basis was Hg2+ > Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Cd2+> Zn2+. The binding capacities from synthetic waste water were 178.1 mg/g for Hg2+, 132.4 mg/g for Pb2+, 83.5 mg/g for Cu2+, 54.1 mg/g for Cd2+, and 32.4 mg/g for Zn2+. The magnetic beads could be regenerated (up to ca. 97%) by a treatment with 0.1M HNO3. These features make m‐poly(EGDMA–VTAZ) beads potential supports for heavy‐metal removal under a magnetic field. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2009  相似文献

Equilibrium ion exchange isotherms in aqueous medium of H+/Cu2+, H+/Zn2+ and H+/Cd2+ on a weak acid resin Lewatit TP‐207, at different pH values and at 298 K have been determined in order to assess the possibility of using ion exchange to eliminate heavy metal ions from industrial aqueous liquid streams. The experimental equilibrium data have been satisfactorily correlated using a Langmuir‐type empirical equation. It was found that the operating resin capacity with respect to each metal ion increased with increase in solution pH, in accordance with a second‐degree polynomial equation. Taking into account the variation of operating capacity with pH, each system exhibited a unique separation factor, namely all the experimental points can be described by a unique isotherm in a dimensionless form. Resin Lewatit TP‐207 exhibited the following selectivity order: Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+ at 298 K. Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new chelating ion‐exchange resin containing the hydroxamic acid functional group was synthesized from poly(methyl acrylate) (PMA)‐grafted sago starch. The PMA grafted copolymer was obtained by a free‐radical initiating process in which ceric ammonium nitrate was used as an initiator. Conversion of the ester groups of the PMA‐grafted copolymer into hydroxamic acid was carried out by treatment of an ester with hydroxylamine in an alkaline solution. The characterization of the poly(hydroxamic acid) chelating resin was performed by FTIR spectroscopy, TG, and DSC analyses. The hydroxamic acid functional group was identified by infrared spectroscopy. The chelating behavior of the prepared resin toward some metal ions was investigated using a batch technique. The binding capacities of copper, iron, chromium, and nickel were excellent and the copper capacity was maximum (3.46 mmol g−1) at pH 6. The rate of exchange of the copper ion was very fast that is, t1/2 < 5 min. It was also observed that the metal ion‐sorption capacities of the resin were pH‐dependent and its selectivity toward the metal ions used is in the following order: Cu2+ > Fe3+ > Cr3+ > Ni2+ > Co2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+ > As3+ > Pb2+. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Abstract

Metal ion binding with a flowing system to a biosorbent comprised of cultured cell-wall fragment within a polysilicate matrix has been investigated. Solutions containing 0.10 mM Pb2+, Cu2+, Ni2+, Cd2+, and Zn2+ were exposed to the material in combinations of two, three, and five metals while simultaneously monitoring the concentration of all metals in the effluent stream. A relative affinity order of Pb2+ > Cu2+ >> Zn2+ ≈ Cd2+ > Ni2+ was determined when all five metal ions were exposed to the material. Lower-affinity metal ions were exposed to the material sequentially. Both metal-specific and common binding sites were observed for each metal ion. The presence of both binding sites that are common to all metal ions investigated and sites that appear to be unique for each metal ion could significantly impact the utility of single-metal ion studies on the application of such biosorbents for the selective removal of metal ions from natural water.  相似文献

A new chelating resin incorporating 2‐mercaptobenzothiazole (MBZ) into macroporous chloromethylated polystyrene via hydrophilic spacer of polyethylene glycol containing sulfur was synthesized. The resin was characterized by elementary analysis and infrared spectra. The adsorption capacity of the resin for Ag+, Hg2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+ as a function of pH was determined. The effects of interference ions, such as Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+, on percent recovery were also investigated. The results showed that the resin could effectively remove Hg2+ and Ag+ from solutions containing a large excess of Na+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Ba2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Pb2+. In column operation, it was observed that Hg2+ and Ag+ in trace quantities were effectively removed from binary metal ions. The percent recovery of the resin for Hg2+ and Ag+ was >98.6% and >97.5%, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 5034–5038, 2006  相似文献

This work investigates the ability of natural microporous materials, such as a zeolite-rich tuff (zeolitite) and a modulated phyllosilicate (sepiolite), to remove heavy-metal ions from simulated inorganic polluted industrial wastewater. Fixed beds of sepiolite and zeolitite were percolated by a solution of Co2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ (concentration of each cation, 2 ? 10?3 N; total concentration, 10?2 N) and were regenerated with a 2 ? 10?3 N Na+ solution. The order of decreasing affinity was, for sepiolite: Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+ > Pb2+ ? Co2+, and, for zeolitite: Pb2+ “Cd2+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Co2+. After regeneration with Na+ solution, a fraction of the retained heavy metals was quickly released by the beds as follows: sepiolite, Co2+ ? Pb2+ > Cd2+ > Zn2+ > Cu2+; zeolitite, Cd2+ > Cu2+ ? Zn2+ > Co2+ > Pb2+. XRD and DTA-TGA analyses examined structural changes in the natural and final materials.  相似文献

Amberlite XAD‐2 has been functionalized by coupling through –SO2‐with ethylenediamine, propylenediamine, and diethylenetriamine to give the corresponding polyamine chelating resins I–III. The solid metallopolymer complexes of the synthesized chelating resins with Cu2+, Zn2+, Cd2+, and Pb2+ were synthesized. The polyamine derivatives and their metal complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, spectral (IR, UV/V, and ESR), and magnetic studies. The batch equilibrium method was utilized for using the chelating polyamines for the removal of Cu+2, Zn+2, Cd+2, and Pb+2 ions from aqueous solutions at different pH values and different shaking times at room temperature. The selective extraction of Cu+2 from a mixture of the four metal ions and the metal capacities of the chelating resins were evaluated using atomic absorption spectroscopy. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The complexation–ultrafiltration technique has been introduced as a capable system to remove heavy metals ions from wastewater. This method needs a water-soluble polymer; therefore, in this paper we synthesized super water-soluble poly(itaconic acid) (PITA) and employed it in polymer-assisted ultrafiltration process to remove Pb(II) ions from synthetic wastewater solutions. The itaconic acid can be produced from different agricultural products and is a green and eco-friendly material. Factors influencing the removal of the metals ions including poly(itaconic acid) concentration, pH and permeate flux were investigated. The results showed that the maximum percentage of metal ion removal was obtained in the basic pH (pH > 7). The flux test was performed by 200 mg/L of poly(itaconic acid) and after 60 min, the flux of membrane was 33.4 L/m2h. The simultaneously selective removal ability of the poly(itaconic acid) for adsorption of different metal ions (Pb2+, Sn2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, and Cd2+) was also studied. The trend of rejection was Pb2+ > Cu2+ > Sn2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+. The highest rejection of Pb(II) ions was achieved as 86%. Generally, the results of this research demonstrated that poly(itaconic acid) (with two carboxyl groups on its repeating unit) is more effective in removing heavy metals ions from wastewater in comparison with customary polymers.

The individual and competitive adsorption capacities of Pb2+, Cu2+ and Cd2+ by nitric acid treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were studied. The maximum sorption capacities calculated by applying the Langmuir equation to single ion adsorption isotherms were 97.08 mg/g for Pb2+, 24.49 mg/g for Cu2+ and 10.86 mg/g for Cd2+ at an equilibrium concentration of 10 mg/l. The competitive adsorption studies showed that the affinity order of three metal ions adsorbed by CNTs is Pb2+>Cu2+>Cd2+. The Langmuir adsorption model can represent experimental data of Pb2+ and Cu2+ well, but does not provide a good fit for Cd2+ adsorption data. The effects of solution pH, ionic strength and CNT dosage on the competitive adsorption of Pb2+, Cu2+ and Cd2+ ions were investigated. The comparison of CNTs with other adsorbents suggests that CNTs have great potential applications in environmental protection regardless of their higher cost at present.  相似文献

A novel chelating resin was synthesized and characterized by elemental, physico-chemical, GPC, NMR, and SEM analyses. Batch separation was adopted to study the recovery of selected metal ions with respect to the pH, time, concentrations, and electrolytes. From the results, it was observed that the order of the rate of metal ion uptake by the resin was Fe3+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Ni2+ > Co2+ > Pb2+ ions. The adsorption kinetics follows first order, and isotherm models were also found to fit each other. The resin showed three-step thermal degradation, and its kinetic and thermodynamic parameters were also evaluated.  相似文献

The chelation behavior of poly(β‐diketone), polymer I, and poly(β‐diketone) oxime, polymer II, toward the divalent metal ions, Cu2+, Zn2+, Ni2+, and Cd2+, and the trivalent lanthanide metal ions, La3+, Nd3+, Sm3+, Gd3+, and Tb3+ was investigated by a batch equilibration technique as a function of contact time, pH, and counter ion. Polymer II exhibited improved chelation characteristics toward lanthanide metal ions in comparison with polymer I and the metal‐ion uptake follows the order Tb3+ ≈ Gd3+ ≈ Sm3+ > Nd3+ ≈ La3+. On the other hand, polymer I showed relatively higher capacity than polymer II, toward the investigated divalent metal ions, where the metal‐ion uptake follows the order Cu2+ > Cd2+ ≈ Zn2+ > Ni2+. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
