A new flow boiling heat transfer model and a new flow pattern map based on the flow boiling heat transfer mechanisms for horizontal tubes have been developed specifically for CO2. Firstly, a nucleate boiling heat transfer correlation incorporating the effects of reduced pressure and heat flux at low vapor qualities has been proposed for CO2. Secondly, a nucleate boiling heat transfer suppression factor correlation incorporating liquid film thickness and tube diameters has been proposed based on the flow boiling heat transfer mechanisms so as to capture the trends in the flow boiling heat transfer data. In addition, a dryout inception correlation has been developed. Accordingly, the heat transfer correlation in the dryout region has been modified. In the new flow pattern map, an intermittent flow to annular flow transition criterion and an annular flow to dryout region transition criterion have been proposed based on the changes in the flow boiling heat transfer trends. The flow boiling heat transfer model predicts 75.5% of all the CO2 database within ±30%. The flow boiling heat transfer model and the flow pattern map are applicable to a wide range of conditions: tube diameters (equivalent diameters for non-circular channels) from 0.8 to 10 mm, mass velocities from 170 to 570 kg/m2 s, heat fluxes from 5 to 32 kW/m2 and saturation temperatures from −28 to 25 °C (reduced pressures from 0.21 to 0.87).  相似文献

In this paper we present experimental data on heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics at flow boiling of refrigerant R-134a in a horizontal microchannel heat sink. The primary objective of this study was to experimentally establish how the local heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop correlate with the heat flux, mass flux, and vapor quality. The copper microchannel heat sink contains 21 microchannels with 335 × 930 μm2 cross section. The microchannel plate and heating block were divided by the partition wall for the local heat flux measurements. Distribution of local heat transfer coefficients along the length and width of the microchannel plate was measured in the range of external heat fluxes from 50 to 500 kW/m2; the mass flux varied within 200–600 kg/m2-s, and pressure varied within 6–16 bar. The obvious impact of heat flux on the magnitude of heat transfer coefficient was observed. It showed that nucleate boiling is the dominant mechanism for heat transfer. A new model of flow boiling heat transfer, considering nucleate boiling suppression and liquid film evaporation, was proposed and verified experimentally in this paper.  相似文献

Heat transfer characteristics of subcooled flow boiling of FC-72 in a single horizontal circular cross-section microchannel (480 μm i.d., 800 μm o.d., 102 mm long) are presented. Different flow patterns, both in the stable and unstable flow boiling regimes, have been captured using high speed video camera. Data in small, medium, high and very high heat flux cases under small, medium and high mass flux has been presented. Convective heat transfer coefficients in each flow boiling situation have been calculated and presented. Stable flow boiling with alternating bubbly/slug flow, slug/annular flow and annular/mist flow have been observed for heat flux of 150 kW/m2 or higher and mass flux of 1500 kg/m2 s or higher. Back and forth oscillations with flow instabilities have been observed in cases of lower heat and mass fluxes. However, no complete reverse flow in upstream direction has been observed.  相似文献

Corresponding to the updated flow pattern map presented in Part I of this study, an updated general flow pattern based flow boiling heat transfer model was developed for CO2 using the Cheng–Ribatski–Wojtan–Thome [L. Cheng, G. Ribatski, L. Wojtan, J.R. Thome, New flow boiling heat transfer model and flow pattern map for carbon dioxide evaporating inside horizontal tubes, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 49 (2006) 4082–4094; L. Cheng, G. Ribatski, L. Wojtan, J.R. Thome, Erratum to: “New flow boiling heat transfer model and flow pattern map for carbon dioxide evaporating inside tubes” [Heat Mass Transfer 49 (21–22) (2006) 4082–4094], Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 50 (2007) 391] flow boiling heat transfer model as the starting basis. The flow boiling heat transfer correlation in the dryout region was updated. In addition, a new mist flow heat transfer correlation for CO2 was developed based on the CO2 data and a heat transfer method for bubbly flow was proposed for completeness sake. The updated general flow boiling heat transfer model for CO2 covers all flow regimes and is applicable to a wider range of conditions for horizontal tubes: tube diameters from 0.6 to 10 mm, mass velocities from 50 to 1500 kg/m2 s, heat fluxes from 1.8 to 46 kW/m2 and saturation temperatures from ?28 to 25 °C (reduced pressures from 0.21 to 0.87). The updated general flow boiling heat transfer model was compared to a new experimental database which contains 1124 data points (790 more than that in the previous model [Cheng et al., 2006, 2007]) in this study. Good agreement between the predicted and experimental data was found in general with 71.4% of the entire database and 83.2% of the database without the dryout and mist flow data predicted within ±30%. However, the predictions for the dryout and mist flow regions were less satisfactory due to the limited number of data points, the higher inaccuracy in such data, scatter in some data sets ranging up to 40%, significant discrepancies from one experimental study to another and the difficulties associated with predicting the inception and completion of dryout around the perimeter of the horizontal tubes.  相似文献

Flow boiling in microchannels is characterized by the considerable influence of capillary forces and constraint effects on the flow pattern and heat transfer. In this article we utilize the features of gas–liquid flow patterns in rectangular microchannels under adiabatic conditions to explain the regularities of refrigerants flow boiling heat transfer. The flow-pattern maps for the upward and horizontal nitrogen–water flow in a microchannel with the size of 1500 × 720 μm were determined via dual-laser flow scanning and compared with corrected Mishima and Ishii prediction. Flow boiling heat transfer was studied for vertical and horizontal microchannel heat sink with similar channels using refrigerants R-21 and R-134a. The data on local heat transfer coefficients were obtained in the range of mass flux from 33 to 190 kg/m2-s, pressure from 1.5 to 11 bar, and heat flux from 10 to 160 kW/m2. The nucleate and convective flow boiling modes were observed for both refrigerants. It was found that heat transfer deterioration occurred for annular flow when the film thickness became small to suppress nucleate boiling. The mechanism of heat transfer deterioration was discussed and a model of heat transfer deterioration was applied to predict the experimental data.  相似文献

In this paper, an experimental investigation on the flow boiling heat transfer in a horizontal long mini-channel was carried out. The mini-channel was with 2 mm wide and 1 mm deep and 900 mm long. The material of the mini-channel was stainless. The working fluid was deionized water. The experiments were conducted with the conditions of inlet pressure in the range of 0.2~0.5 MPa, mass flux in the range of 196.57-548.96 kg/m2s, and the outlet vapor quality in the range of 0.2 to 1. The heat flux was in the range of 292.86 kW/m2 to 788.48 kW/m2, respectively. The influences of mass flux and heat flux were studied. At a certain mass flow rate, the local heat transfer coefficient increased with the increase of the heat flux. If dry-out occurred in the mini-channel, the heat transfer coefficient decreased. At the same heat flux, the local heat transfer coefficient would depend on the mass flux. It would increase with the mass flux in a certain range, and then decrease if the mass flux was beyond this range. Experimental data were compared with the results of previous studies. Flow visualization and measurements were conducted to identify flow regime transitions. Results showed that there were eight different kinds of flow patterns occurring during the flow boiling. It was found that flow pattern had a significant effect on heat transfer.  相似文献

Flow boiling of R-123 in a hydrofoil-based micro pin fin heat sink was investigated. Average two-phase heat transfer coefficients were obtained over effective heat fluxes ranging from 19 to 312 W/cm2 and mass fluxes from 976 to 2349 kg/m2 s. The paper presents a flow map, which divides the data into three flow pattern regions: bubbly, wavy intermittent and spray-annular flows. Heat transfer coefficient trends and flow morphologies were used to infer boiling heat transfer mechanisms. Existing conventional scale correlations for circular tubes resulted in large scatter and were not able to predict the heat transfer coefficients accurately.  相似文献

Performance of different structured surfaces in nucleate pool boiling   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Several structured surfaces have been developed in-house for the augmentation of boiling heat transfer using distilled water as test fluid under atmospheric pressure. These surfaces have either a number of parallel tunnels or orthogonally intersecting tunnels. Effect of design parameters like tunnel inclination and different cavity structure at the tunnel base on the boiling heat transfer has been investigated. Three different structures namely circular groove, rectangular groove and rounded base have been used at the end of the tunnels. Heat flux is varied in the range of 0–250 kW/m2. Experimental results showed tunnels inclined at an angle 60° with the horizontal provide better augmentation compared to straight vertical tunnels. Amongst different base geometry the circular pocket produced most conducive condition for the boiling heat transfer. The use of tunnels also increases the degree of augmentation. The highest augmentation was obtained from the surface having intersecting inclined tunnels with a circular base.  相似文献

Ammonia (NH3 or R717) is an important refrigerant whose flow boiling heat transfer needs to be determined in many engineering applications. There have been some studies evaluating the correlations of flow boiling heat transfer coefficients for NH3. However, the number of the correlations evaluated or the number of data points used was limited, which resulted in inconsistent results. This work presents a comprehensive study of the applicability of existing correlations of flow boiling heat transfer coefficients to NH3. From seven independent laboratories, a database consisting of 1157 experimental data points of NH3 flow boiling heat transfer is compiled. The experimental parameter ranges cover mass flux from 10 to 600 kg/m2s, heat flux from 2.0 to 240 kW/m2, vapor quality from 0.002 to 0.997, saturation pressure from 0.19 to 1.6 MPa, and channel inner diameter from 1.224 to 32 mm. Based on the NH3 database, 37 correlations are evaluated and analyzed. The results show that the best correlation has a mean absolute deviation of 40.9%, indicating the need for developing a more accurate correlation for NH3 flow boiling heat transfer. Several topics worthy of further studies are identified.  相似文献

This article presents a study of flow boiling of R123 in two small-diameter silver tubes with inner diameters of 1.15 mm and 2.3 mm. The experiments have been accomplished for a wide range of quality variation (0.01–0.9), mass flow rate (650–3000 kg/m2s), and heat fluxes (40–80 kW/m2). The saturation temperature ranged from 30 to 70°C. In the experiments a peculiar distribution of heat transfer coefficient leading to development of two maxima in its distribution with respect to quality has been observed. Such behavior was seen in both sizes of tubes.  相似文献

Experiments of flow boiling heat transfer were conducted in four horizontal flattened smooth copper tubes of two different heights of 2 and 3 mm. The equivalent diameters of the flattened tubes are 8.6, 7.17, 6.25, and 5.3 mm. The working fluids were R22 and R410A. The test conditions were: mass velocities from 150 to 500 kg/m2 s, heat fluxes from 6 to 40 kW/m2 and saturation temperature of 5 °C. The experimental heat transfer results are presented and the effects of mass flux, heat flux, and tube diameter on heat transfer are analyzed. Furthermore, the flow pattern based flow boiling heat transfer model of Wojtan et al. [L. Wojtan, T. Ursenbacher, J.R. Thome, Investigation of flow boiling in horizontal tubes: Part I – A new diabatic two-phase flow pattern map, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 48 (2005) 2955–2969; L. Wojtan, T. Ursenbacker, J.R. Thome, Investigation of flow boiling in horizontal tubes: Part II – Development of a new heat transfer model for stratified-wavy, dryout and mist flow regimes, Int. J. Heat Mass Transfer 48 (2005) 2970–2985], using the equivalent diameters, were compared to the experimental data. The model predicts 71% of the entire database of R22 and R410A ±30% overall. The model predicts well the flattened tube heat transfer coefficients for R22 while it does not predicts well those for R410A. Based on several physical considerations, a modified flow boiling heat transfer model was proposed for the flattened tubes on the basis of the Wojtan et al. model and it predicts the flattened tube heat transfer database of R22 and R410A by 85.8% within ±30%. The modified model is applied to the reduced pressures up to 0.19.  相似文献

Experimental two-phase frictional pressure drop and flow boiling heat transfer results are presented for a horizontal 2.32-mm ID stainless-steel tube using R245fa as working fluid. The frictional pressure drop data was obtained under adiabatic and diabatic conditions. Experiments were performed for mass velocities ranging from 100 to 700 kg m?2 s?1, heat flux from 0 to 55 kW m?2, exit saturation temperatures of 31 and 41°C, and vapor qualities from 0.10 to 0.99. Pressures drop gradients and heat transfer coefficients ranging from 1 to 70 kPa m?1 and from 1 to 7 kW m?2 K?1 were measured. It was found that the heat transfer coefficient is a strong function of the heat flux, mass velocity, and vapor quality. Five frictional pressure drop predictive methods were compared against the experimental database. The Cioncolini et al. (2009) method was found to work the best. Six flow boiling heat transfer predictive methods were also compared against the present database. Liu and Winterton (1991), Zhang et al. (2004), and Saitoh et al. (2007) were ranked as the best methods. They predicted the experimental flow boiling heat transfer data with an average error around 19%.  相似文献

The paper presents an experimental study of the flow-boiling heat-transfer characteristics of R12 and R134a in the annulus of a horizontal enhanced-surface-tubing evaporator. The test section has an inner-tube bore diameter of 17.5 mm, an envelope diameter of 28.6 mm and an outer smooth tube of 32.3 mm inside diameter. The ranges of heat flux and mass velocity covered in the tests were 5–25 kW/m2 and 180–290 kg/m2/s, respectively, at a pressure of 365 kPa. In order to establish the flow regime conditions at the inlet to the test section, the test rig allows for the visualization of refrigerant flow through the preheater. The experiments show two regions of heat transfer: a nucleate boiling region where the heat transfer depends mainly on heat flux, and a forced convective region where the heat transfer depends only on the refrigerant flow rate.  相似文献

Abstract

Wettability plays an important role during flow boiling inside micro and mini channels. The present work focuses on the flow boiling heat transfer characteristics inside copper minitube (inner diameter of 3?mm) coated internally to render the inside surface nearly hydrophobic. Electroless Galvanic Deposition technique is employed for hydrophobic coating inside the copper tube. Both single phase heat transfer and two-phase flow boiling heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics were investigated in regular and internally coated hydrophobic copper minitubes. The experiments were performed with deionized water as a working fluid and the mass flux was varied from 100 to 650?kg/m2s. The two-phase heat transfer characteristics was observed to be both functions of mass flux as well as heat flux. The two phase heat transfer has been observed to be augmented due to the wettability within the tubes. The two-phase pressure drop has also been observed to increase when compared to the regular, uncoated tube; however, the proportional increment is lower than the augmentation achieved in two-phase heat transfer. The enhanced heat transfer effects observed have been explained on the basis of wetting physics.  相似文献

In order to investigate the effect of surface wettability on the pool boiling heat transfer, nucleate pool boiling experiments were conducted with deionized water and silica based nanofluid. A higher surface roughness value in the range of 3.9 ~ 6.0μm was tested. The contact angle was from 4.7° to 153°, and heat flux was from 30kW/m2 to 300kW/m2. Experimental results showed that hydrophilicity diminish the boiling heat transfer of silica nanofluid on the surfaces with higher roughness. As the increment of nanofluid mass concentration from 0.025% to 0.1%, a further reduction of heat transfer coefficient was observed. For the super hydrophobic surface with higher roughness (contact angle 153.0°), boiling heat transfer was enhanced at heat flux less than 93 kW/m2, and then the heat transfer degraded at higher heat flux.  相似文献

Flow boiling heat transfer of R-134a refrigerant in a circular mini-channel, 600 mm long with a diameter of 1.75 mm, is investigated experimentally in this study. The test section is a stainless steel tube placed horizontally. Flow pattern and heat transfer coefficient data are obtained for a mass flux range of 200–1000 kg/m2 s, a heat flux range of 1–83 kW/m2 and saturation pressures of 8, 10, and 13 bar. Five different flow patterns including slug flow, throat-annular flow, churn flow, annular flow and annular-rivulet flow are observed and the heat transfer coefficient data for different flow patterns are presented. The heat transfer coefficient increases with increasing heat flux but is mostly independent of mass flux and vapour quality. In addition, it is indicated from the experiments that the higher the saturation pressure, the lower is the heat transfer coefficient. Comparisons of the present data with the existing correlations are also presented.  相似文献

Heat transfer characteristics are studied for a hybrid boiling case that combine features of spray cooling and flow boiling. In such a hybrid system, a liquid is atomized and the surrounding vapor is entrained into the droplet cone to provide an initial quality for enhanced boiling. An in-house experimental setup was developed to obtain surface temperature and heat flux measurements in a series of converged mesochannels for hybrid boiling. To compare the heat transfer performance of this hybrid technique, a flow boiling module was also developed using the same series of converged mesochannels. The inlet and exit hydraulic diameter of the mesochannels was 1.55 and 1.17 mm, respectively. The heat flux was in the range of 15–45 kW/m2 and the estimated mass flux varied from 45 kg/m2s at the channel inlet to 110 kg/m2s at the channel outlet. Moreover, a model was presented to predict surface temperatures and heat transfer coefficients for flow boiling and hybrid boiling in mesochannels. This model was developed based on Chen’s formulation (1966) [21] but with two essential modifications. First, the laminar entry length effect was taken into consideration for heat transfer coefficient calculation. Second, the boiling enhancement factor was calculated based on the fluid properties. The model was compared to the experimental data and several other correlations for both cases. This model shows good agreement with the experimental data (mean deviations on the order of 12–16%).  相似文献

The boiling heat transfer and two-phase pressure drop of water in a microscale channel were experimentally investigated. The tested horizontal rectangular microchannel had a hydraulic diameter of 100 μ m and length of 40 mm. A series of microheaters provided heat energy to the working fluid, which made it possible to control and measure the local thermal conditions in the direction of the flow. Both the microchannel and microheaters were fabricated using a micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) technique. Flow patterns were obtained from real-time flow visualizations made during the flow boiling experiments. Tests were performed for mass fluxes of 90, 169, and 267 kg/m2s and heat fluxes from 200 to 500 kW/m2. The effects of the mass flux and vapor quality on the local flow boiling heat transfer coefficient and two-phase frictional pressure gradient were studied. The evaluated experimental data were compared with existing correlations. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were nearly independent of the mass flux and vapor quality. Most of the existing correlations did not provide reliable heat transfer coefficient predictions for different vapor quality values, nor could they predict the two-phase frictional pressure gradient except under some limited conditions.  相似文献

The pressure drop and boiling heat transfer characteristics of steam-water two-phase flow were studied in a small horizontal helically coiled tubing once-through steam generator. The generator was constructed of a 9-mm ID 1Cr18Ni9Ti stainless steel tube with 292-mm coil diameter and 30-mm pitch. Experiments were performed in a range of steam qualities up to 0.95, system pressure 0.5-3.5 MPa, mass flux 236-943 kg/m2s and heat flux 0-900 kW/m2. A new two-phase frictional pressure drop correlation was obtained from the experimental data using Chisholm’s B-coefficient method. The boiling heat transfer was found to be dependent on both of mass flux and heat flux. This implies that both the nucleation mechanism and the convection mechanism have the same importance to forced convective boiling heat transfer in a small horizontal helically coiled tube over the full range of steam qualities (pre-critical heat flux qualities of 0.1-0.9), which is different from the situations in larger helically coiled tube where the convection mechanism dominates at qualities typically >0.1. Traditional single parameter Lockhart-Martinelli type correlations failed to satisfactorily correlate present experimental data, and in this paper a new flow boiling heat transfer correlation was proposed to better correlate the experimental data.  相似文献

In this study, experiments were performed to examine characteristics of flow boiling heat transfer and pressure drop of a low global warming potential refrigerant R32 flowing in a horizontal copper circular tube with 1.0 mm inside diameter for the development of a high-performance heat exchanger using small-diameter tubes or minichannels for air conditioning systems. Axially local heat transfer coefficients were measured in the range of mass fluxes from 30 to 400 kg/(m2·s), qualities from 0.05 to 1.0, and heat fluxes from 2 to 24 kW/m2 at the saturation temperature of 10°C. Pressure drops were also measured in the rage of mass fluxes from 30 to 400 kg/(m2·s) and qualities from 0.05 to 0.9 at the saturation temperature of 10°C under adiabatic condition. In addition, two-phase flow patterns were observed through a sight glass fixed at the tube exit with a digital camera. The characteristics of boiling heat transfer and pressure drop were clarified based on the measurements and the comparison with data of R410A obtained previously. Also, measured heat transfer coefficients were compared with two existing correlations.  相似文献
