The paper examines the changes in computer and communications capabilities over the next 10-15 years which are most likely to affect the central components of distributed interactive simulation (DIS): manned simulators, synthetic environments, and semi-automated forces (SAF). Because these components of DIS are currently very resource intensive, improvements in computer and communications capabilities translate into direct and immediate improvements in DIS capabilities. These improved capabilities in turn allow DIS to contribute in much broader arenas, enhancing troop readiness and reducing system acquisition costs. These improvements will not all come automatically, however. Substantial planning is required to ensure that DIS can take advantage of the coming changes, rather than being overcome by them 相似文献

The microwave and millimeter wave monolithic integrated circuits (MIMIC) program is a Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency initiative to provide affordable, reliable, and reproducible microwave and millimeter-wave circuits in monolithic format for use in US Department of Defense (DoD) systems. The objectives of the program, progress being made toward meeting those objectives, and some planned future work are described. The overall program object is to provide the needed microwave and millimeter-wave products at a price that will allow their use in fielded DoD systems, that meet all required electrical, mechanical, and environmental parameters, and that continue to operate reliably for the time necessary to fulfil their intended application. The Department of Defense, in response to its unique telecommunications needs and in an effort to take advantage of advances in technology, has embarked on an evolutionary, systematized program to develop and procure electronic, software controlled circuit switches. Two development programs presently underway will result in the fielding of two kinds of state-of-the-art circuit switches; a large hybrid circuit switch which will accommodate the existing analog telecommunication environment and provide the means to evolve into the digital world of the future, and a pair of smaller digital circuit switches which, while providing limited accommodation of analog equipment, are primarily intended for the later stages of the digital evolution. 流体仿真是虚拟现实、军事仿真等领域的热点和难点。目前基于流体力学的方法计算量巨大,普通计算机难以满足实时性要求,而基于渲染的方法只能产生视觉效果,无法实现流体与物体的互动。为兼顾实时性与视觉真实性,所设计的互动数字台球系统利用改进的LBM方法对流体进行模拟。将虚拟水面投影到铺有专用幕布的台球桌上,并利用数字摄像机捕捉台球的运动轨迹。作为对水面的扰动,通过流体模拟,实现了真实台球与虚拟水面的交互,并可达到35帧以上的帧率。设计新颖合理,有很好的用户体验和娱乐效果。 相似文献

This handbook consolidates tri-service efforts in the field of maintainability prediction and furnishes guidelines for the selection, interpretation, and application of the procedures contained therein. This article describes the design, implementation, and evaluation of MiMaze, a distributed multiplayer game on the Internet, and, more precisely, it describes the design of dedicated transmission control mechanisms. MiMaze is implemented on a completely distributed communication architecture based on the IP multicast protocol suite (RTP/UDP/IP). This is the first work to analyze a distributed interactive game on the multicast Internet. The major element of the MiMaze architecture is a distributed synchronization mechanism that guarantees the consistency of the game regardless of network delay. This article provides on evaluation of the MiMaze game on the MBone, and discusses approaches to monitor and evaluate this new type of application. The main contribution of this work is to show, based on on example, the feasibility of this new family of applications on a best-effort network. It is shown that real-time interactivity can be maintained, provided that some level of inconsistency can be tolerated by the application.
