Development of the supply chain oriented quality assurance system for aerospace manufacturing SMEs and its implementation perspectives

Aerospace manufacturing SMEs are continuously facing the challenge on managing their supply chain and complying with the aerospace manufacturing quality standard requirement due to their lack of resources and the nature of business. In this paper, the ERP system based approach is presented to quality control and assurance work in light of seamless integration of in-process production data and information internally and therefore managing suppliers more effectively and efficiently. The Aerospace Manufacturing Quality Assurance Standard (BS/EN9100) is one of the most recognised and essential protocols for developing the industry-operated-and-driven quality assurance systems. The research investigates using the ERP based system as an enabler to implement BS/EN9100 quality management system at manufacturing SMEs and the associated implementation and application perspectives. An application case study on a manufacturing SME is presented by using the SAP based implementation, which helps further evaluate and validate the approach and application system development.     

Evaluation of fracture strength and material degradation for weldment of high temperature service steel using advanced small punch test

This paper presents an effective and reliable evaluation method for fracture strength and material degradation of the micro-structure of high temperature service steel weldment using advanced small punch (ASP) test developed from conventional small punch (CSP) test. For the purpose of the ASP test, a lower die with a minimized Φ1.5 mm diameter loading ball and an optimized deformation guide hole of Φ3 mm diameter were designed. The behaviors of fracture energy (E_sp), ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) and material degradation from the ASP test showed a definite dependency on the micro-structure of weldment. Results obtained from ASP test were compared and reviewed with results from CSP test, Charpy impact test, and hardness test. The utility and reliability of the proposed ASP test were verified by investigating fracture strength, behavior of DBTT, and fracture location of each micro-structure of steel weldment for test specimen in ASP test. It was observed that the fracture toughness in the micro-structure of FL + CGHAZ and ICHAZ decreased remarkably with increasing aging time. From studies of all micro-structures, it was observed that FGH AZ microstructure has the most excellent fracture toughness, and it showed absence of material degradation.     

Development and implementation of an integrated quality information system—a China experience

As quality is one of the essential factors for manufacturing success in the global market, the Quality Engineering Laboratory (QEL) of BeiHang University (BUAA) has been focusing on the research of methodologies for integrated quality information processes to support quality management for more than 10 years. An integrated quality information system—QQ-Enterprise has been developed for Chinese manufacturing industries. A three-dimensional quality information integration model and a flexible architecture are proposed in this paper. The development of the QQ-Enterprise, which is a general-purpose IQIS developing toolkit designed specially for the Chinese manufacturing environment, and an implementation template are also presented.
