The paper discusses the awareness activities, training requirements and actions that are necessary for an organization to take corrective measures against the Year 2000 problem. The implications of failing to address this problem are discussed, ranging from having major ISO 9000 non-conformities, qualified company accounts, personal liability for directors, to the organization being unable to continue trading. A considerable number of software suppliers report improvements in product and service quality, development costs and time to market achieved with the help of the ISO 9000 standards. Nevertheless, the ISO 9000 family has received unfavourable criticism in journals, textbooks and at software quality conferences. The paper summarizes, discusses and reviews eleven of the most popular arguments against the ISO 9000 standards. The review of the criticism is based on findings of two empirical surveys among European software suppliers that have implemented an ISO 9000 quality system. The paper concludes with suggestions and guidelines for advances in software quality management concepts, such as the ISO 9000 family, CMM, BOOTSTRAP and the emerging SPICE standard. 相似文献

Integration of the two best-known quality management models for software production and maintenance, the Capability Maturity Model and the ISO 9001 Model (including ISO 9000-3) is of great interest for both the European and the American software market. The definition of a quality management model which would conform to the requirements of both models and use the advantages of each was a key goal of our research work within the project PROCESSUS.1 Research work was conducted in two steps: first, the detailed comparison of both models was made in order to define their common issues and specifics of each model, and secondly, the integrated model based on the results of the comparison was defined. In this paper the comparison method and results are described. Further, a method for the integration and a framework of the integrated model are presented. The core of our work is actually the content of the integrated model. Due to extensive content of the integrated model examples of some parts only are given in the appendix. The integrated model presented in this paper has already been successfully used in organizations which are cooperating in the project PROCESSUS o these organizations achieved the needed maturity for certification to the ISO 9001 standard and a maturity level near level 3 of CMM. 相似文献

This study examines the quality management practices in the manufacturing industry in Ireland on the performance of companies. The key findings point to the existence of a moderately positive linear relationship with a correlation coeffiecient of 0.694 between practice and performance. All the available multiple comparison tests conducted showed there is a significant difference in competitive ability between firms with 20–50 employees and theother employment group. From the perspective of competitive advantage, firms are better off being big rather than small. Also the local indigenous firms are at a competitive disadvantage unless jointly owned by foreign partners. Foreign owned firms have better quality management practices with a mean total score of 25% higher than local firms. Furthermore, it appears that being a subsidiary or part of a larger organisation and membership to a quality association contributes to better performance. Competitive sectors like Plastics and Rubber, Chemical and Electrical/Electronics have higher mean total scores than the rest and are above industry average. Firms that have larger export markets have better quality management practices. Finally companies accredited with ISO 9000 (66% of respondents) and or had implemented TQM (19% of respondents) exhibit a wide range of performance and statistically are significantly different than those without. 相似文献
