The well dispersed multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/epoxy composites were prepared by functionalization of the MWCNT surfaces with glycidyl methacrylate (GMA). The morphology and thermal properties of the epoxy nanocomposites were investigated and compared with the surface characteristics of MWCNTs. GMA‐grafted MWCNTs improved the dispersion and interfacial adhesion in epoxy resin, and enhanced the network structure. The storage modulus of 3 phr GMA‐MWCNTs/epoxy composites at 50°C increased from 0.32 GPa to 2.87 GPa (enhanced by 799%) and the increased tanδ from 50.5°C to 61.7°C (increased by 11.2°C) comparing with neat epoxy resin, respectively. Furthermore, the thermal conductivity of 3 phr GMA‐MWCNTs/epoxy composite is increased by 183%, from 0.2042 W/mK (neat epoxy) to 0.5781 W/mK. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ternary blends of polyoxymethylene (POM), polyolefin elastomer (POE), and glycidyl methacrylate grafted high density polyethylene (GMA‐g‐HDPE) with various component ratios were studied for their mechanical and thermal properties. The size of POE dispersed phase increased with increasing the elastomer content due to the observed agglomeration. The notched impact strength demonstrated a parabolic tendency with increasing the elastomer content and reached the peak value of 10.81 kJ/m2 when the elastomer addition was 7.5 wt%. The disappearance of epoxy functional groups in the POM/POE/GMA‐g‐HDPE blends indicated that GMA‐g‐HDPE reacted with the terminal hydroxyl groups of POM and formed a new graft copolymer. Higher thermal stability was observed in the modified POM. Both storage modulus and loss modulus decreased from dynamic mechanical analysis tests while the loss factor increased with increasing the elastomer content. GMA‐g‐HDPE showed good compatibility between the POM matrix and the POE dispersed phase due to the reactive compatibilization of the epoxy groups of GMA and the terminal hydroxyl groups of POM. A POM/POE blend without compatibilizer was researched for comparison, it was found that the properties of P‐7.5(POM/POE 92.5 wt%/7.5 wt%) were worse than those of the blend with the GMA‐g‐HDPE compatibilizer. A new compatibilizer, poly(vinyl benzyloxy methyl naphthalene)-g-poly(t-butyl methacrylate-co-methacrylic acid), was synthesized for Nylon 66 (N66)/multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites. It has been shown that the naphthalene unit in the main chain of the compatibilizer interacts with MWCNTs by π–π interaction and that the carboxylic acid unit in the graft chain of the compatibilizer interacts with the amide group of N66. The use of the compatibilizer produces well-dispersed MWCNTs in N66 matrix, which results in improved mechanical and electrical properties of the composites, while the simple mixture of N66/MWNCTs without the compatibilizer exhibits poor mechanical and electrical properties due to severe aggregation of MWCNTs. It is also found that the compatibilizer with a small amount of carboxylic acids is more effective for improving the mechanical and electrical properties of N66/MWCNT composites.  相似文献

Different amounts of multiwalled carbon tubes (MWCNTs) were incorporated into an epoxy resin based on diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A and both epoxy precursor and composite were cured with 4,4′‐diamino diphenyl sulfone. Transmission and scanning electron microscopy demonstrated that the carbon nanotubes are dispersed well in the epoxy matrix. Differential scanning calorimetry measurements confirmed the decrease in overall cure by the addition of MWCNTs. A decrease in volume shrinkage of the epoxy matrix caused by the addition of MWCNTs was observed by pressure–volume–temperature measurements. Thermomechanical and dynamic mechanical analysis were performed for the MWCNT/epoxy composites, showing that the Tg was slightly affected, whereas the dimensional stability and stiffness are improved by the addition of MWCNTs. Electrical conductivity measurements of the composite samples showed that an insulator to conductor transition takes place between 0.019 and 0.037 wt % MWCNTs. The addition of MWCNTs induces an increase in both impact strength (18%) and fracture toughness (38%) of the epoxy matrix with very low filler content. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In order to prepare the bio‐based polymeric materials, a gallic acid epoxy resin (GA‐ER) is synthesized by using biodegradable gallic acid, and the nanocomposites of GA‐ER/glycidyl methacrylate (GMA)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared by dual hybrid cationic ring‐opening reaction. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) results show that the curing reaction temperature of the nanocomposites is between 150 and 225°C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results suggest that MWCNTs are homodispersing in the GA‐ER/GMA matrix when the MWCNTs content is not more than 1.0 wt%. The glass transition temperature of the nanocomposite with 0.5 wt% MWCNTs is 9.3°C higher than that of pure resin system. The initial thermal degradation temperature and degradation activation energies Ea of the nanocomposite with 1.0 wt% MWCNTs is 10°C and 68.6 kJ/mol higher than that the pure resin system, respectively. The effectiveness of P(E‐co‐MA‐co‐GMA) as a compatibilizer for recycled PET/PP and recycled PET/PP‐EP (polypropylene (ethylene‐propylene) heterophase copolymer) blends was investigated by means of morphological (scanning electron microscopy), rheological (small amplitude oscillatory shear), mechanical (tensile, flexural and impact tests), and thermal (differential scanning calorimetry) properties. Compatibilizer concentration ranged from 1 to 5 wt % with respect to the whole blend. All blends were obtained in a 90/10 composition using a twin screw extruder. Compatibilization effects for PETr/PP‐EP were more pronounced due to ethylene segments present in both PP‐EP and P(E‐co‐EA‐co‐GMA). PETr/PP‐EP has shown greater dispersed phase size reduction, a more solid‐like complex viscosity behavior and larger storage modulus at low frequencies in relation to PETr/PP blend. For both investigated blends, mechanical properties indicated an improvement in both elongation at break and impact strength with increasing compatibilizer content. PETr/PP‐EP blends showed improved performance for the same level of compatibilizer content. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2015 , 132, 41892.  相似文献

We present a strategy for stabilizing the morphological integrity of electrospun polymeric nanofibers by heat stimuli in situ crosslinking. Amorphous polymer nanofibers, such as polystyrene (PS) and its co‐polymers tend to lose their fiber morphology during processing at temperatures above their glass transition temperature (Tg) typically bound to happen in nanocomposite/structural composite applications. As an answer to this problem, incorporation of the crosslinking agents, phthalic anhydride (PA) and tributylamine (TBA), into the electrospinning polymer solution functionalized by glycidylmethacrylate (GMA) copolymerization, namely P(St‐co‐GMA), is demonstrated. Despite the presence of the crosslinker molecules, the electrospinning polymer solution is stable and its viscosity remains unaffected below 60 °C. Crosslinking reaction stands‐by and can be thermally stimulated during post‐processing of the electrospun P(St‐co‐GMA)/PA‐TBA fiber mat at intermediate temperatures (below the Tg). This strategy enables the preservation of the nanofiber morphology during subsequent high temperature processing. The crosslinking event leads to an increase in Tg of the base polymer by 30 °C depending on degree of crosslinking. Crosslinked nanofibers are able to maintain their nanofibrous morphology above the Tg and upon exposure to organic solvents. In situ crosslinking in epoxy matrix is also reported as an example of high temperature demanding application/processing. Finally, a self‐same fibrous nanocomposite is demonstrated by dual electrospinning of P(St‐co‐GMA) and stabilized P(St‐co‐GMA)/PA‐TBA, forming an intermingled nanofibrous mat, followed by a heating cycle. The product is a composite of crosslinked P(St‐co‐GMA)/PA‐TBA fibers fused by P(St‐co‐GMA) matrix. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2016 , 133, 44090.  相似文献

The isothermal crystallization behaviour of the polypropylene (PP) phase in PP/multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) composites has been investigated via differential scanning calorimetric analysis, which showed the influence of the varying dispersion level of MWCNTs in the respective PP matrix. PP/MWCNTs composites were prepared via melt‐blending technique, wherein two different grades of MWCNTs of varying average “agglomerate” size and varying entanglements (N‐MWCNTs and D‐MWCNTs) were utilized. Furthermore, the influence of melt‐viscosity of the PP phase was investigated on the crystallization kinetics of the PP/MWCNTs composites. Heterogeneous nucleation ability of MWCNTs has resulted in a decrease in half time of crystallization (t 1/2) from ~14 min for pure PP to ~6 min for PP/N‐MWCNTs and ~11 min for PP/D‐MWCNTs composites at 1 wt% of MWCNTs at 132 °C. Overall rate of crystallization (k) has significantly increased to 4.9 × 10?2 min?1 for PP/N‐MWCNTs composite as compared with 6.2 × 10?3 min?1 for PP/D‐MWCNTs composite at 0.5 wt% of MWCNTs at 132 °C. Moreover, the effect of a novel organic modifier, Li‐salt of 6‐amino hexanoic acid along with a compatibilizer (PP‐g‐MA) has also been investigated on the crystallization kinetics of the PP phase in PP/MWCNTs composites. In this study the effect of incorporation of ethylene‐co‐glycidylmethacrylate (GMA)‐con‐butyl acrylate (nBA) terpolymer with an epoxy functional group, on the mechanical performance of short glass fiber (SGF)/Poly (butylene terephthalate) (PBT) composites has been investigated. Tensile test showed that incorporation of rubber phase in PBT/SGF composites results in loss of strength. However impact measurement exhibited an increase in impact strength with an increase in rubber content. Tensile and impact properties are discussed in terms of interfacial shear strength and morphology of composites. Morphological observation by SEM revealed a thin layer of polymer adhering to the surface of glass fibers indicating that epoxy functional group in the modifier reacts with fiber surface and PBT matrix. This reactivity of epoxy functional group is also supported by FTIR observations. The composites are also analyzed for % crystallinity using DSC and a strong correlation is found to exist between interfacial shear strength and % crystallinity. POLYM. To obtain advanced materials with a high thermal dissipation, the addition of multiwalled carbon nanotubes containing diverse functionality groups, that is, as‐received multiwalled carbon nanotubes (AS‐MWCNTs) and diaminobenzoyl multiwalled carbon nanotubes (DA‐MWCNTs), to epoxy–anhydride composites was accomplished. According to nonisothermal differential scanning calorimetry analysis, the reactive functional groups present on the surfaces of the AS‐MWCNTs and DA‐MWCNTs accelerated the nucleophilic addition reaction of epoxy composites. Because of the difference in the reactivities of these functional groups toward epoxy groups, the distinction of fractional conversion and the reaction rate of the curing process were remarkably evident at the early stage. A suitable kinetic model was effectively elucidated with the Málek approach. The curing kinetics could best be described by a two‐parameter autocatalytic model as a truncated ?esták–Berggren model. The DA‐MWCNTs achieved effective load transfer and active heat conductive pathways; this resulted in good dynamic mechanical and thermal properties. As a result, the diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A/DA‐MWCNTs constituted an effective system with enhanced heat dissipation of materials for electronic applications. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Amino‐functionalization of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) was carried out by grafting triethylenetetramine (TETA) on the surfaces of MWCNTs through the acid–thionyl chloride way. The amino‐functionalized MWCNTs show improved compatibility with epoxy resin and, as a result, more homogenous dispersion in the matrix. The mechanical, optical, and thermal properties of the amino‐functionalized MWCNT/epoxy composites were also investigated. It was found that introducing the amino‐functionalized MWCNTs into epoxy resin greatly increased the charpy impact strength, glass transition temperature, and initial decomposing temperature of cured epoxy resin. In addition, introducing unfunctionalized MWCNTs into epoxy resin was found greatly depressing the light transmission properties, which would affirmatively confine the application of the MWCNTs/epoxy composites in the future, while much higher light transmittance than that of unfunctionalized MWCNTs/epoxy composites was found for amino‐functionalized MWCNTs/epoxy composites. SEM of the impact cross section and TEM of ultrathin film of the amino‐functionalized MWCNTs/epoxy composites showed that the amino‐functionalized MWCNTs were wetted well by epoxy matrix. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Conducting composites of aniline/o‐anisidine copolymer doped by dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (P(An‐co‐oAs)‐DBSA), linear low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE), and ethylene–acrylic acid copolymer (EAA) as compatibilizer were prepared by melt processing. The effects of composition on electrical conductivity, resistivity‐temperature characteristic, and mechanical properties were also investigated. The electrical conductivity of ternary composites markedly increased due to compatibilizition and protonation effect of the EAA. The SEM micrograph shows that the compatibility between the P(An‐co‐oAs)‐DBSA and the LLDPE matrix is enhanced after the introduction of EAA. The positive temperature coefficient of resistivity characteristic is observed. Tensile strength of P(An‐co‐oAs)‐DBSA/LLDPE/EAA composites is improved, compared with P(An‐co‐oAs)‐DBSA/LLDPE composites. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 98: 1511–1516, 2005  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Hydrogen peroxide biosensors based on Poly(glycidyl methacrylate‐co‐3‐thienylmethylmethacrylate)/ Polypyrrole [Poly(GMA‐co‐MTM)/PPy] composite film were reported. Poly(GMA‐co‐MTM) including various amounts of GMA and MTM monomers was synthesized via the radical polymerization. Enzyme horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was trapped in Poly(GMA‐co‐MTM)/PPy composites during the electropolymerization reaction between pyrrole and thiophene groups of MTM monomer, and chemically bonded via the epoxy groups of GMA. Analytical parameters of the fabricated electrodes were calculated and are discussed in terms of film electroactivity and mass transfer conditions of the composite films. RESULTS: The amount of electroactive HRP was found to be 1.25, 0.34 and 0.213 µg for the working electrodes of Poly(GMA30%co‐MTM70%)/PPy/HRP, Poly(GMA85%co‐MTM15%)/PPy/HRP and Poly(GMA90%co‐MTM10%)/PPy/HRP, respectively. Optimal response of the fabricated electrodes was obtained at pH 7 and an operational potential of ? 0.35 V. It was observed that effective enzyme immobilization and electroactivity of the composite films could be changed by changing the ratios of GMA and MTM fractions of Poly(GMA‐co‐MTM) based working electrodes. CONCLUSION: The amount of electroactive enzyme increases with increasing MTM content of the final copolymer. High operational stabilities of the biosensors can be attributed to the strong covalent enzyme linkage via the epoxy groups of GMA due to preventing enzyme deterioration and loss. A more convenient microenvironment for mass transfer was provided for the electrodes by higher GMA ratios. It is observed that mass transfer is dominated by the mechanism of electron transfer to obtain effective sensitivity values. This work contributes to discussions clarifying the problems regarding the design parameters of biosensors. Copyright © 2011 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Directly functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) with benzene‐1,3,5‐tricarboxylic acid (BTC) and 3,5‐diaminobenzoic acid (DAB) were successfully accomplished with less structural damage as confirmed by XPS and FT‐Raman results. Their dispersibility and thermal stability were achieved after the functionalization. The functional groups on MWCNT surfaces can accelerate the curing reaction of epoxy composites remarkable inducing rather low exothermic peak temperature (Tp) and exothermic heat of reaction (ΔH). The values of activation energy (Ea) obtained from Kissinger and Ozawa methods obviously decreased with the introduction of MWCNTs, especially DAB‐MWCNTs. The dynamic mechanical properties notably enhanced with the incorporation of unmodified and functionalized MWCNTs. The crosslink density (ρ) increased and free volume fraction (fg) decreased, resulting in dramatic increase of glass transition temperatures (Tg) and decrease of coefficient of thermal expansion. Additionally, epoxy composites exhibited low dielectric constant close to that of neat epoxy resin. From these remarkable properties, MWCNT/epoxy composites can be considered as a good candidate for high performance insulation materials. POLYM. ENG. This study investigates the effect of the thiol‐ene click reaction on thermal conductivity and shear strength of the epoxy composites reinforced by various silane‐functionalized hybrids of sulfhydryl‐grafted multi‐walled carbon nanotubes (SH‐MWCNTs) and vinyl‐grafted MWCNTs (CC‐MWCNTs). The results of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) show that the sulfhydryl groups and vinyl groups are successfully grafted onto the surface of MWCNTs, after treatment of MWCNT with triethoxyvinylsilane and 3‐mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane, respectively. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), HotDisk thermal constant analyzer (HotDisk), optical microscope, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) are used to characterize the resultant composites. It is demonstrated that the hybrid of 75 wt % SH‐MWCNTs and 25 wt % CC‐MWCNTs has better dispersion and stability in epoxy matrix, and shows a stronger synergistic effect in improving the thermal conductivity of epoxy composite via the thiol‐ene click reaction with 2,2′‐azobis(2‐methylpropionitrile) as thermal initiator. Furthermore, the tensile shear strength results of MWCNT/epoxy composites and the optical microscopy photographs of shear failure section indicate that the composite with the hybrid MWCNTs has higher shear strength than that with raw MWCNTs. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The gloss properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/poly(methyl methacrylate‐acrylonitrile‐butadiene‐styrene) (MABS) blend with styrene‐acrylonitrile‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate (SAN‐co‐GMA) as a compatibilizing agent were investigated. For the PC/poly(MABS)/SAN‐co‐GMA (65/15/20, wt %) blend surface, the reduction of gloss level was observed most significantly when the GMA content was 0.1 wt %, compared with the blends with 0.05 wt % GMA or without GMA content. The gloss level of the PC/poly(MABS)/SAN‐co‐GMA (0.1 wt % GMA) blend surface was observed to be 35, which showed 65% lower than the PC/poly(MABS)/SAN‐co‐GMA blend without GMA content. The gloss reduction was most probably caused by the insoluble fractions of the PC/poly(MABS)/SAN‐co‐GMA blend that were formed by the reaction between the carboxylic acid group in poly(MABS) and epoxy group in SAN‐co‐GMA. The results of optical and transmission electron microscope analysis, spectroscopy study, and rheological properties supported the formation of insoluble structure of the PC/poly(MABS)/SAN‐co‐GMA blend when the GMA content was 0.1 wt %. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Biodegradable poly(butylene succinate‐co‐butylene adipate) (PBSA)/multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) nanocomposites were prepared via a simple melt‐compounding method at low MWCNTs contents. Scanning and transmission electron microscopy observations revealed a relatively nice dispersion of MWCNTs throughout the PBSA matrix. Both the nonisothermal and isothermal melt crystallizations of PBSA were enhanced significantly in the nanocomposites relative to neat PBSA because of the presence of MWCNTs; however, the crystal structure of PBSA remained unchanged. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this study, experimental and numerical studies were performed to investigate the relationship among the functionalization method, weight fraction of MWCNTs, thermal imidization cycle, and mechanical properties of various PAI/MWCNT composite films. Poly(amide‐co‐imide)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite films were prepared by solution mixing and film casting. The effects of chemical functionalization and weight fraction of multiwalled carbon nanotubes on thermal imidization and mechanical properties were investigated through experimental and numerical studies. The time needed to achieve sufficient thermal imidization was reduced with increasing multiwalled carbon nanotube content when compared with that of a pure poly(amide‐co‐imide) film because multiwalled carbon nanotubes have a higher thermal conductivity than pure poly(amide‐co‐imide) resin. Mechanical properties of pure poly(amide‐co‐imide) and poly(amide‐co‐imide)/multiwalled carbon nanotube composite films were increased with increasing imidization time and were improved significantly in the case of the composite film filled with hydrogen peroxide treated multiwalled carbon nanotubes. Both the tensile strength and strain to failure of the multiwalled carbon nanotube filled poly(amide‐co‐imide) film were increased substantially because multiwalled carbon nanotube dispersion was improved and covalent bonding was formed between multiwalled carbon nanotubes and poly(amide‐co‐imide) molecules. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Polyethylene‐octene elastomer (POE)/organoclay nanocomposite was prepared by melt mixing of the POE with an organoclay (Cloisite 20A) in an internal mixer, using poly[ethylene‐co‐(methyl acrylate)‐co‐(glycidyl methacrylate)] copolymer (E‐MG‐GMA) as a compatibilizer. X‐ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that an intercalated nanocomposite was formed and the silicate layers of the clay were uniformly dispersed at a nanometre scale in the POE matrix. The nanocomposite exhibited greatly enhanced tensile and dynamic mechanical properties compared with the POE/clay composite without the compatibilizer. The POE/E‐MA‐GMA/clay nanocomposite was used to produce foams by a batch process in an autoclave, with supercritical carbon dioxide as a foaming agent. The nanocomposite produced a microcellular foam with average cell size as small as 3.4 µm and cell density as high as 2 × 1011 cells cm?3. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A novel electrophoretic deposition (EPD) method was employed for grafting multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) on carbon fibers, which, after impregnation with bisphenol A dicyanate ester (BADCy), synergistically reinforced BADCy matrix composites (CNT‐C/BADCy). The effect of MWCNT presence on the mechanical properties of the composites was investigated. Composite tensile strength increased by 45.2% for an EPD duration of 2 min, while flexural strength exhibited a decreasing trend with EPD duration. Optical microscopy revealed that the existence of MWCNTs enhanced the fiber‐matrix interface while a large number of CNTs were observed to have pulled‐out from the matrix, a finding which explained the observed tensile strength increase in terms of energy dissipation by the specific toughening mechanism. The flexural strength decrease of the composites with CNTs as compared to specimens without nanotubes was found linked to the increased stress concentration in the BADCy matrix due to tube presence which weakens the adhesion between carbon fabrics. In a word, carbon nanotubes will enhance the micro interface and weaken the macro interface of the composites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 2017 , 134, 45100.  相似文献
