Research and development in nanostructured materials is one of the most intensely studied areas in science. As a result of concerted R & D efforts, nanostructured electronic and magnetic materials have achieved commercial success. Specific examples of novel industrially important nanostructured electronic and magnetic materials are provided. Advantages of nanocrystalline magnetic materials in the context of both materials and devices are discussed. Several high technology examples of the use of nanostructured magnetic materials are presented. Methods of processing nanostructured materials are described and the examples of sol gel, rapid solidification and powder injection moulding as potential processing methods for making nanostructured materials are outlined. As part of a research and development programme on magnetic refrigeration, paramagnetic materials suitable for magnetic refrigeration in the 2 to 20 K range have been studied. The bestgadolinium materials with known properties, as derived from a literature survey, are plotted. For one of those materials, gadolinium gallium garnet, we present the results of our field-dependent heat capacity measurements. Preparation and fabrication of gadolinium compounds are discussed briefly as well as the scope for further work for selecting and studying working materials for magnetic refrigeration.  相似文献

In ferromagnetic materials, magnetic domain walls interact with microstructure over similar mechanisms as dislocations do. Under the absence of stress as an additional influence, the magnetic properties of these materials are often correlated with mechanical-technological characteristics such as hardness and strength. This fundamental observation is the basis of micro-magnetic materials characterization. It is not yet well known, but quite legitimate to assume that such a correlation also exists between magnetic and mechanical properties of para- and diamagnetic materials, since the interactions on the electron spin level depend on the molecular structure and determine the magnetic behavior. Similar effects are known to exist in the electrical domain. As an example, the electrical conductivity of nonmagnetic materials such as aluminum or nickel based alloys, which can be assessed non-destructively using eddy current impedance measurements, is affected by stress and dislocation density. Much less is known about the correlation between the mechanical properties and the magnetic susceptibility of non-ferromagnetic materials such as graphite, aluminum and plastics. Today, there is no commercialized non-destructive method which uses the concept of magnetic susceptibility measurements for the characterization of dia- and paramagnetic materials. This article proposes a force-based magnetic sensor principle for susceptibility imaging of such materials.  相似文献

In general, magnetic properties of bulk magnetic materials are independent of the humidity of the environment. To obtain a magnetic material that has humidity-sensitive characteristics, water vapour must penetrate the lattice and act on spin sites. Nanoporous materials composed of metal-assembled complexes may be expected to display some humidity response because materials in this category can show functionalities such as gas storage and molecular recognition. Here, we demonstrate humidity-induced reversible variations in the magnetic properties of cyano-bridged cobalt(II)-manganese(II)-chromium(III) metal assemblies. The observed magnetic humidity response is due to adsorption and desorption of a ligand water molecule on the cobalt ion, which changes cobalt (II) between a 6- and 4-fold coordination geometry and switches the magnetic interaction between ferromagnetic coupling and antiferromagnetic coupling.  相似文献

纳米磁性材料是纳米材料中最早进入工业化生产,应用十分广泛的一类功能材料,纳米磁性材料的特性不同于常规的磁性材料,其原因在于与磁性相关联的特征物理长庆恰好处于纳米量级,例如,磁单畴尺寸,超顺磁性临界尺寸,交换作用长度,以主电子平均自由路磁程自由路程等大致处于1-100nm量级,当磁性体的尺寸与这些特征物理长度相当时,就会呈现反常的磁学与电学性质,利用这些新特性,已涌现出一系列新材料与众多应用。  相似文献

The magnetic properties of nanocrystalline hard magnetic and soft magnetic are summarized. When the grain size becomes of the order f the magnetic exchange length exchange coupling occurs. The different concepts of exchange coupling in these materials are discussed. Exchange coupling leads in isotropic hard magnetic materials to a remanence enhancement. Soft magnetic materials exhibit due to exchange coupling a lower coercivity, lower losses and consequently also improved properties.  相似文献
