Ceramic matrix composites are typically prepared by a costly, time-consuming process under severe conditions. Herein, a cost-effective C/SiC composite was fabricated from a silicon gel-derived source by Joule heating. The β-SiC phase was generated via carbothermal reduction, and the carbon fabric showed a well-developed graphitic structure, promoting its thermal and anti-oxidation stabilities. Owing to the excellent dielectric loss in carbon fabric, SiC and SiO2 as well as the micropore structure of the ceramic matrix, the absolute electromagnetic interference shielding (EMI) effectiveness (SSE/t) reached 948.18 dB?cm2?g-1 in the X-band, exhibiting an excellent EMI SE. After oxidation at 1000 °C for 10 h in the air, the SSE/t of the composite was only reduced to 846.02 dB?cm2?g-1. The C/SiC composite promises the efficient fabrication of high-temperature resistant materials for electromagnetic shielding applications.  相似文献

Silicon-carbide nanowires (SiCnws) have been considered as dielectric loss materials for application in the field of electromagnetic wave (EMW) attenuation. In this study, SiCnws/carbon fiber (CF) composites were fabricated using precursor infiltration and pyrolysis process for the in-situ growth of SiCnws. The SiCnw fraction of the SiCnws/CF composites could be adjusted using various catalysts. At a small SiCnw fraction (38 wt%), the composites exhibited excellent EMW absorption performance with the minimum reflection loss of ? 18.3 dB when their thickness was only 1.2 mm and can cover the entire X and Ku bands by adjusting the material thickness. They transformed from EMW absorption performance to electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding property with the increase in SiCnw fraction from 38 wt% to 73 wt%, reaching an EMI shielding effectiveness of 31.25 dB. In addition, the density of the SiCnws/CF composites was only 0.31–0.41 g/cm3, and their compressive strength can reach 0.61–0.99 MPa with excellent high-temperature stability. Therefore, the SiCnws/CF composite presents a promising EMW absorption and EMI shielding material that can be applied in harsh environments.  相似文献

Aiming to prepare high-performance electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials, chopped carbon fibers were incorporated into mullite ceramic matrix via rapid prototyping process of spark plasma sintering (SPS). Results indicate that Cf/mullite composites with only 1 wt% of carbon fibers exhibit highest shielding effectiveness (SET) over 40 dB at a small thickness of 2.0 mm, showing great advantages both in terms of performance and thickness compared with many mature carbon/ceramic composites. The high EMI shielding properties mainly depend on two mechanisms of absorption and reflection in this present work. The enhanced absorption and reflection of electromagnetic wave are ascribed to the promotional electrical conductivity arising from the formation of conductive network by introduction of carbon fibers. Regarding enhanced electrical conductivity, notable intensified interfacial polarization on a large number of interfaces between mullite matrix and carbon fibers is also the key factor to the improved absorption, which makes absorption play a dominant role in the significant improvement of EMI SET. The Cf/mullite composites with excellent EMI shielding properties and thin thickness show great potential application as EMI materials.  相似文献

The present research focuses on the preparation of an efficient material that acts as a deterrent to electromagnetic pollution. In this study, graphite and carbon fiber (CF) reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites (GCF) are prepared using a melt processing technique via a twin-screw extruder. The prepared composites were evaluated for mechanical, thermal, DC conductivity, and EMI shielding properties. There is a rise in the tensile strength (4.32%) and thermal stability (6.57%) of composites were recorded as compared to pure PP. The fractured morphology of the composites showed the breakdown of CF, leading to the improvement in the tensile strength of the composites. An increase in electrical conductivity was seen at maximum (GCF4) filler loading indicating 2.31 × 10?4 S/cm which is much better than the pure PP value (2.07 × 10?10 S/cm). The maximum value of shielding effectiveness is achieved at the maximum weight percentage of filler loading which is ?44.43 dB with a thickness of 2 mm covering the X-band (8.2–12.4 GHz).  相似文献

The evaluation and optimization of EMW absorbing properties have been widely studied, but little research focused on EMI shielding properties predicted by complex permittivity. Based on the transmission-line theory, shielding effectiveness (SE) of a dielectric composite was evaluated by the reflection coefficient (Г) and transmission coefficient (T) which were calculated by the complex permittivity. SiCf/SiCN composites containing different content of CVI SiCN matrix are attractive for their tunable dielectric properties, which may vary from EMW absorption to EMI shielding. Therefore, SiCf/SiCN composites are typical dielectric composites used for experimental verification, and the results indicate that the dielectric composites without CVI SiCN phase have good EMW absorbing properties, while they exhibit good EMI shielding effectiveness with CVI SiCN phase. This work builds a relationship between the EMI shielding effectiveness and the complex permittivity, and obtains the optimized complex permittivity for excellent EMI shielding effectiveness.  相似文献

The effect of carbon fiber (CF) modification with multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) on the electrical, mechanical, and rheological properties of the polycarbonate (PC)/CF/CNT composite was investigated. The CF and multiwall CNT (MWCNT) were treated with sulfuric acid and nitric acid (3:1 wt %) mixture, to modify the CF with the CNT. For the PC with acid-treated CNT (a-CNT) modified acid-treated CF (a-CF) (PC/a-CF/a-CNT) composite, the electrical conductivity, and the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) showed the highest values, compared with those of the PC/a-CF and PC/a-CF/CNT composites. The EMI SE of the PC/a-CF (10 wt %)/a-CNT (0.5 wt %) composite was found to be 26 (dB at the frequency of 10.0 GHz, and the EMI SE was increased by 91.2%, compared to that of the PC/a-CF composite at the same amount of total filler content. Among the composites studied in this work, the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite also showed the highest values of relative permittivity (εr) and dielectric loss factor. The above results suggest that the CF modification with the a-CNT significantly affected the electrical conductivity and EMI SE of the composite, and the hybrid fillers of the a-CNT and a-CF resulted in good electrical pathways in the PC/a-CF/a-CNT composite. © 2018 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This work investigates the effect of different preparation routes including mechanical mixing and in situ polymerization of aniline on the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) over the X-band (8–12 GHz) frequency range for polyaniline doped with dodecylbenzene sulfonic acid (PAni.DBSA) filled in styrene–butadiene–styrene triblock copolymer matrix. The dc conductivity and dielectrical properties were also investigated. For all systems, the electrical conductivity, dielectric constant, and EMI SE increased with the increase in the concentration of PAni.DBSA. Blends prepared by the in situ polymerization exhibited higher conductivity and dielectric constant and better EMI SE characteristics than the physical blends with similar amount of PAni.DBSA. EMI SE value as high as −35 dB has been achieved with about 30% of PAni.DBSA prepared by the in situ polymerization. Regarding physical blends, those involving PAni.DBSA prepared by a redoping process displayed better EMI SE. For all systems under consideration, the conductivity and EMI SE bear an exponential relationship that can be represented by a master curve. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness of the composites of polypropylene/poly(lactic acid) (PP/PLA) (70/30, wt %) with single filler of multiwall carbon nanotube (CNT) or hybrid fillers of nickel‐coated carbon fiber (CF) and CNT were investigated. For the single filler composite, higher electrical conductivity was observed when the PP‐g‐maleic anhydride was added as a compatibilizer between the PP and PLA. For the composite of the PP/PLA (70/30)/CF (20 phr)/CNT (5 phr), the composite prepared by injection molding observed a higher EMI shielding effectiveness of 50.5 dB than the composite prepared by screw extrusion (32.3 dB), demonstrating an EMI shielding effectiveness increase of 49.8%. The higher values in EMI shielding effectiveness and electrical conductivity of the PP/PLA/CF (20 phr)/CNT (5 phr) composite seemed mainly because of the increased CF length when the composites were prepared using injection molding machine, compared with the composites prepared by screw extrusion. This result suggests that the fiber length of the conductive filler is an important factor in obtaining higher values of electrical conductivity and EMI shielding effectiveness of the PP/PLA/CF/CNT composites. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Considering the promising efficiency of composites, in the current study, a graphene oxide (GO)-magnetite-Prussian blue (PB) composite material was prepared. The composite exhibited electrical conductivity, magnetic permeability, and permittivity nature, and was evaluated using electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding studies. GO was developed by the Hummer's method, ferrite (Fe3O4) was incorporated by the sol-gel method, and PB was introduced in the mixture by an in-situ process. The fabricated samples were studied by X-ray diffraction, Raman Spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy along with EMI shielding efficiency (SE) evaluation. The SE of ?71.66 dB of reflection losses was measured at a frequency of 1.5 MHz. The GO/Fe3O4/PB composite provided the best results for the detection in the 1–18 MHz frequency range because of its excellent electric and magnetic properties. The obtained results demonstrated that the GO/Fe3O4/PB composite has promising potential applications in EMI shielding.  相似文献

In this article, lightweight silver@carbon microsphere@graphene (Ag@CMS@GR) composite materials were fabricated. First, carbon microsphere (CMS) was prepared by redox hydrothermal method in the presence of FeCl3 and polyvinyl alcohol. Next, on the surface, silver was deposited to form Ag@CMS particles. And finally, the graphene sheets were added to connect Ag@CMS particles to obtain Ag@CMS@GR composites. Because of the silver nanoparticle may form a conductive pathway, Ag@CMS with relative high content of silver nanoparticles show superior EMI shielding properties. Next, graphene was introduced into Ag@CMS with relative low content of silver particles to form Ag@CMS@GR composites, which is helpful for decreasing the apparent density of composites to around 1.01 g·cm−3. And the composites also show good EMI shielding properties. The highest SE and specific SE values of Ag@CMS@GR reached 39.26 dB and 38.87 dB·cm3·g−1 with 5 wt % graphene content. The EMI shielding mechanism of Ag@CMS@GR composites was discussed. It can be potentially used for lightweight EMI shielding applications. © 2019 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. In this paper, a novel nuclear shielding material capable of shielding neutrons and gamma rays, WB-reinforced Al (WB/Al) composites, was prepared by spark plasma sintering (SPS) process. The microstructure of the composites was characterized, and the effects of WB content, heat treatment and matrix type on the properties of the composites were discussed. The results demonstrate that the WB particles are uniformly dispersed in the aluminum matrix and formed a good binding interface with the matrix. WAl12 as an interfacial reaction product is identified, and segregation of Si and Mg elements at the reinforcement/matrix interface occurs. The mechanical properties of the WB/Al composites are sensitive to the WB content. The hardness, elastic modulus and bending strength of the composites increase monotonously as the WB volume fraction increasing, up to 234%, 107% and 91.6% higher respectively than those of the monolithic 6061Al. However, the tensile strength reaches a peak point when the volume fraction is 20%. The effects of T6 treatment and matrix type are not pronounced, especially for the composites with high WB content. The thermal neutron and gamma ray shielding properties of the composites both increase with the increase of material thickness and WB content. The WB/Al composites developed in this work show good application prospects in the field of nuclear radiation protection, due to their good mechanical properties and well neutron and gamma-ray shielding performance.  相似文献

Dispersion of graphite within the acrylonitrile butadiene styrene matrix demonstrates enhanced electromagnetic interference shielding of composites through the use of tumble mixing technique. A shielding effectiveness of 60 dB with 15 wt % of graphite has been achieved. D shore hardness data revealed a little decrease in hardness of composites with rise in graphite content. DC conductivity measurements revealed a fairly low percolation threshold at 3 wt % of graphite. The conductivity exhibited by 15 wt % composite is 1.66 × 10−1 S/cm. These composites are fit for use as an effective and convenient EMI shielding material because of easy processing, better hardness, light weight, and, reasonable shielding efficiency. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Graphene has been considered as an excellent filler to reinforce ceramics with enhanced properties. However, the uniform dispersion and controlled orientation of graphene sheets in a ceramic matrix have become major challenges toward higher performance. In this paper, we prepared MgO matrix composites with parallel graphene layers through the intercalation of the precursor into expandable graphite. We obtained a high electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding effectiveness of ~30 dB, due to the multiple reflections and absorptance of electromagnetic waves between the parallel graphene layers. The hardness and strength of the MgO composite were also increased by introducing parallel graphene layers. All these properties suggest that the graphene/MgO composite represents a promising electromagnetic shielding material.  相似文献

In this work, two types of hybrid composite materials were elaborated. The first based on polyaniline (PANI) doped Camphor Sulfonic acid (CSA), Carbon‐Coated Cobalt (CCo), and FeNi nanoparticles dispersed in polyurethane. A value of 104 S/m of conductivity and a 90 dB of shielding effectiveness in multilayer structure were obtained over the 8–18 GHz frequency band. The second type, based on PANI doped para‐toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA), dispersed in epoxy resin with FeNi nanoparticles. A thick material with moderate conductivity and high attenuation of electromagnetic waves was obtained. It was found that a PANI‐PTSA/FeNi/epoxy resin composite with thicknesses of 9.7 and 6.5 mm had, respectively, reflection loss values of ?22 dB at 9.52 GHz, and ?20.7 dB at 14.7 GHz. The electromagnetic properties of the elaborated structure hybrid materials can be optimized to increase the electromagnetic reflection–absorption properties. Thus, the obtained structure can be used in shielding and radar absorbing materials applications. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Unidirectional (UD) silicon carbide (SiC) fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (UD SiCf/SiC) composites with CVI BN interphase were fabricated by polymer infiltration-pyrolysis (PIP) process. The effects of the anisotropic distribution of SiC fibers on the mechanical properties, thermophysical properties and electromagnetic properties of UD SiCf/SiC composites in different directions were studied. In the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers bear the load and BN interphase ensures the interface debonding, so the flexural strength and the fracture toughness of the UD SiCf/SiC composites are 813.0 ± 32.4 MPa and 26.1 ± 2.9 MPa·m1/2, respectively. In the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers cannot bear the load and the low interfacial bonding strengths between SiC fiber/BN interphase (F/I) and BN interphase/SiC matrix (I/M) both decrease the matrix cracking stress, so the corresponding values are 36.6 ± 6.9 MPa and 0.9 ± 0.5 MPa?m1/2, respectively. The thermal expansion behaviors of UD SiCf/SiC composites are similar to those of SiC fibers in the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, and are similiar to those of SiC matrix in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers. The total electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EM SET) of UD SiCf/SiC composites attains 32 dB and 29 dB when the axial direction of SiC fibers is perpendicular and parallel to the electric field direction, respectively. The difference of conductivity in different directions is the main reason causing the different SET. And the dominant electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding mechanism is absorption for both studied directions.  相似文献

Electrically conducting rubbery composites based on thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were prepared through melt blending using a torque rheometer equipped with a mixing chamber. The electrical conductivity, morphology, rheological properties and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) of the TPU/CNT composites were evaluated and also compared with those of carbon black (CB)‐filled TPU composites prepared under the same processing conditions. For both polymer systems, the insulator–conductor transition was very sharp and the electrical percolation threshold at room temperature was at CNT and CB contents of about 1.0 and 1.7 wt%, respectively. The EMI SE over the X‐band frequency range (8–12 GHz) for TPU/CNT and TPU/CB composites was investigated as a function of filler content. EMI SE and electrical conductivity increased with increasing amount of conductive filler, due to the formation of conductive pathways in the TPU matrix. TPU/CNT composites displayed higher electrical conductivity and EMI SE than TPU/CB composites with similar conductive filler content. EMI SE values found for TPU/CNT and TPU/CB composites containing 10 and 15 wt% conductive fillers, respectively, were in the range ?22 to ?20 dB, indicating that these composites are promising candidates for shielding applications. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献
