In signal processing, four functions of one variable are commonly used. They are the signal in time, the spectrum, the auto-correlation function of the signal, and the auto-correlation function of the spectrum. The variables of these functions are denoted, respectively, as time, frequency, lag, and Doppler. In time-frequency analysis, these functions of one variable are extended to quadratic functions of two variables. In this paper, we investigate a method for creating quartic functions of three of these variables as well as a quartic function of all four variables. These quartic functions provide a meaningful representation of the signal that goes beyond the well-known quadratic functions. This correspondence deals with the notion of connected operators. Starting from the definition for operator acting on sets, it is shown how to extend it to operators acting on function. Typically, a connected operator acting on a function is a transformation that enlarges the partition of the space created by the flat zones of the functions. It is shown that from any connected operator acting on sets, one can construct a connected operator for functions (however, it is not the unique way of generating connected operators for functions). Moreover, the concept of pyramid is introduced in a formal way. It is shown that, if a pyramid is based on connected operators, the flat zones of the functions increase with the level of the pyramid. In other words, the flat zones are nested. Filters by reconstruction are defined and their main properties are presented. Finally, some examples of application of connected operators and use of flat zones are described. 相似文献

Surface acoustic wave components have been realized which perform the functions of transduction, amplification, and coupling. Applications are suggested which make use of these components. Exploratory work in connection with surface acoustic waveguides suggests the feasibility of acoustic analogs of conventional microwave transmission line (microsound) components on the surface of crystal and substrates. These microsound transmission lines, hybrids, and directional couplers interconnect microsound transducers, amplifiers, isolators, and phase shifters to form microsound circuits capable of autocorrelation, Fourier transformation, and cross correlation functions. Compatible component configurations are proposed and evaluated which perform these basic functions. The anticipated difficulties with their realization are discussed and the current status of critical problems including the epitaxial growth of thin films and submicron etching procedures will be given.
