A cyanoalkylation and reduction process was used to synthesize novel imidazolidinone diamine monomers. The diamine monomers, characterized using wet methods and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, were incorporated into anionic polyurethane/urea dispersion adhesives. Our studies have shown that small amounts of imidazolidinone monomer in anionic polymers can improve adhesion of polyvinyl chloride to itself three-fold, and the adhesion of acrylonitrile/butadiene/styrene copolymer to vinyl at high-temperatures in the presence of a polyfunctional isocyanate. Adhesion improvements are attributed to the polarity and hydrogen-bonding capabilities of the pendant imidazolidinone groups. Gloss improvements correlated well to levels of incorporated diamine.  相似文献

Computer technology has provided chemical research with many new and advanced analytical techniques. By the year 2050 computers are predicted to run a million times faster than today's machines. Scientists have remained satisfied with their studies of molecules and to dwell in the dimensions of space and matter only. The difficulty for humans to comprehend the ‘idea of time’ has kept the issue of “time” on the sideline. The human brain is an infinitely more powerful and intelligent computer than our silicon chip driven computers. For the brain to be intelligent, the ‘idea of time’ appears to play an important role. With the large amount of lipid molecules found in the brain, lipidologists are in a position to unravel this mystery of life. The development of robotics, nanotechnology and genetic engineering depends on the continued growth of computing power. Quantum computers are new concepts and there is a chance for lipidologists to mimic the brain and produce an intelligent computer system, which runs on fat molecules (‘FAT’ chips). Imagination is the mother of invention. One of the latest advances in fatty acid chemistry is the study of lipid molecules containing a [60]fullerene unit. Such futuristic molecules are viewed as potential drugs, as well as potential components for the design of the ‘FAT’ chip. The future direction of the fat, nutrition and oleochemical industry rests on demands from the consumers. By the year 2050, the average life span for men and women in the industrial countries will increase significantly to 80 for women and 75 for men. A great demand for geriatric gourmet food, nutraceuticals, cosmetics and bodycare products is to be expected. With the birth rate declining in these countries, there will also be a great demand for special infant food products — especially, mother's milk.  相似文献

In this study the effect of conventional zinc phosphate and zinc aluminum phosphate, which represents second generation of phosphate based anticorrosion pigments, on the performance of a polyurethane coating was studied. While zinc phosphate modification was proved to be effective on the corrosion resistance, EIS data facilitated the determination of the optimum pigment volume concentration in which the coating offered the most efficient protection. The superiority of zinc aluminum polyphosphate was attributed to the release of more inhibiting species, leading to the formation of a protective layer at the coating/substrate interface. In addition to the assessment of the impact of pigment content on the resistance of polyurethane primer to cathodic disbonding, the dependency of adhesion strength on the pigment type was also studied using pull-off test.  相似文献

The dependence of adhesion and protective properties of coating systems on surface properties of epoxy intermediate coatings, aged and non-aged before an application of polyurethane topcoats, were examined. The intermediate coatings were aged 500 h in UV chamber. The surface free energy and polar groups were estimated after ageing. After applying polyurethane topcoats on aged and non-aged epoxy coatings, resistance to salt spray and thermal shocks were tested as well as internal stresses were measured before and after corrosion tests.The results showed that adhesion in coating systems with polyurethane topcoats applied on aged epoxy coatings depends strongly on the degradation degree of epoxy intermediate coatings and the value of generated internal stresses. Coatings with good adhesion retention in corrosion environments have good protective properties even when temporary blistering has occurred.  相似文献
