BACKGROUND: Numerous clinic-based studies have observed improved glycemic control with even moderate weight reductions, for periods up to 1 year, in obese subjects with noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Similar benefits of weight loss have not been well documented in free-living populations, particularly in older persons with NIDDM of long duration. METHODS: Relations between weight change and glycosylated hemoglobin were evaluated in a population-based sample of persons with older-onset diabetes. Persons participating in baseline (1980-1982, n = 1370) and two follow-up examinations (1984-1986, n = 987; 1990-1992, n = 550) were included. Mean glycosylated hemoglobin levels among those losing, gaining, or remaining within 5 kg were compared in all subjects combined and stratified by insulin use, using ordinary least-squares regression to adjust for confounding variables. RESULTS: Subjects who lost weight had higher mean glycosylated hemoglobin compared to those who gained weight (baseline to second exam only). This pattern remained in those not using insulin. Weight change was not related to glycosylated hemoglobin in persons using insulin. CONCLUSIONS: Associations suggest that in older persons not using insulin, moderate weight loss over periods of 4-6 years has little beneficial impact on glycosylated hemoglobin. Weight loss may be reflecting disease processes that also result in poor glycemic control. Intentional weight loss achieved over a shorter time period and maintained through the later years in older diabetic persons remains to be evaluated.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To determine the relationship between non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM), knee pain, and anserine bursitis, and its relation to sex, age, or body mass index (BMI). METHODS: Ninety-four consecutive patients with NIDDM, 66 women and 28 men, and 57 nondiabetic patients, 36 women and 22 men, were examined at an outpatient clinic of a tertiary care hospital. Date of onset in patients with NIDDM was noted, and serum was analyzed for either hemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) or glycosylated hemoglobin (GHb) in 69 of these patients. Anserine bursitis was diagnosed if knee pain and tenderness at the bursal site were found on examination. RESULTS: On examination 34 (36%) patients with NIDDM were found to have anserine bursitis. Of these, 31 (91%) were women and 3 (9%) were men (p < 0.05). Age, BMI, duration of diabetes, HbA1C or GHb, and age of onset of diabetes were found not to differ significantly between patients with and those without anserine bursitis. CONCLUSION: A relationship exists between NIDDM, knee pain, and anserine bursitis unrelated to age, BMI, duration and control of diabetes, and age at the diagnosis of diabetes.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Optimal glycemic control prior to and during early pregnancy is essential in diabetic women. CASES: Two cases of fetal anencephaly occurred in diabetic women who conceived with medical technical assistance but did not receive preconception counseling. Both women had poor glycemic control periconceptually, as evidenced by elevated glycosylated hemoglobin determinations in the early first trimester. Targeted sonographic evaluations in the second trimester revealed both fetuses to be anencephalic. Both women terminated their pregnancies. CONCLUSION: Women with diabetes should be encouraged to seek preconceptual counseling and achieve tight glycemic control prior to attempting pregnancy. Health care providers play a vital role in stressing the importance of preconception care to these patients.  相似文献

Serum proteins are non-enzymatically glycosylated dependent on the concentration of free glucose and measurements of their concentration are used to control diabetic carbohydrate metabolism. Eight patients with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and 8 patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) with glycosylated hemoglobin levels of at least 10.5% were studied during a 6-week period of antidiabetic therapy. Glycosylated serum albumin (GSA) and glycosylated total serum proteins (GSP) were measured weekly using an affinity chromatography procedure. The fructosamine test (FA) and the measurement of mean blood glucose (MBG) were also carried out weekly. Glycosylated hemoglobin and its glucose adduct HbA1c were determined at 14-day intervals (HPLC-method). All measured parameters decreased during the period of the study. The correlation coefficients for the glycosylated proteins versus the MBG determined one week earlier were highest for GSA [IDDM: r(GSA/MBG-1) = 0.726, p < 0.001 for the single values and 0.984, p < 0.001 for the mean values; NIDDM: r (GSA/MBG-1) = 0.636, p < 0.001 for the single values and 0.986, p < 0.001 for the mean values]. The differences between the IDDM and NIDDM group probably occurred because 6 NIDDM patients were taking glibenclamide (7.0-10.5 mg/day) which is known to inhibit the glycosylation reaction of albumin. The fructosamine test is more prone to interferences than the selective determination of GSA. GSA determination therefore, gives precise data in medium term diabetic control.  相似文献

This study documents the cross-sectional, health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measures obtained at baseline for patients with severe chronic airways limitation (CAL) being assessed for home oxygen therapy (HOT) at the Flinders Medical Centre, Adelaide, South Australia. Two generic quality of life instruments, the Nottingham Health Profile (NHP) and the Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) short form 36-item questionnaire (SF-36), were administered by interview to the same patients to permit comparisons to be made between the two instruments. SF-36 mean scores were also compared with scores obtained in separate studies of a South Australian elderly general population and of groups of Australian subjects with various medical and psychiatric conditions. NHP mean scores were compared with scores from an elderly group of Adelaide residents from a household survey. HRQOL measures were obtained for 60 patients, 32 males and 28 females. At assessment for HOT, patients with severe CAL were experiencing severe impairment in their quality of life in comparison to age-matched South Australian norms, with physical disability the major limitation. There were several significant correlations between the domains of the SF-36 and the NHP which were predominantly gender-specific. Only small decrements in mental health were found with the SF-36 questionnaire. The SF-36 and the NHP appear to provide discrepant information for severely disabled CAL patients for the subjective domains of emotional and mental health.  相似文献

The focal electroretinogram, which measures the functional integrity of the distal retina of the macula, was recorded with a hand-held stimulator-ophthalmoscope in 26 eyes from patients with non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus with normal fundus photography, and in 52 control eyes of similar age range. Implicit time and amplitude of the responses were studied as a function of the age, glycemic control through glycosylated hemoglobin measurement and duration of diabetes. Implicit time and amplitude were significantly delayed (F=5.05, p=0.028) and reduced (F=11.26, p=0.013) in diabetic patients without diabetic retinopathy compared to control subjects. Moreover, there was a significant relationship between the implicit time (r=0.57, p=0.002) and amplitude (r=-0.65, p=0.0004) with the duration of diabetes but not with hemoglobin Alc. These results strongly suggest an early macular dysfunction in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus before the appearance of diabetic retinopathy.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: We examined the effect of glycemic control of NIDDM on counterregulatory hormone responses to hypoglycemia and compared the effect with that seen in patients with IDDM. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Eleven subjects with NIDDM and eight age- and weight-matched control subjects and ten subjects with IDDM and ten age- and weight-matched control subjects were studied. All subjects underwent a stepped hypoglycemic-hyper-insulinemic clamp study during which plasma glucose levels were lowered in a stepwise manner from 5.0 to 2.2 mmol/l in steps of 0.6 mmol/l every 30 min. Counterregulatory hormones (epinephrine, norepinephrine, glucagon, ACTH, cortisol, and growth hormone [GH]) were measured, and a symptom survey was administered during the last 10 min of each 30-min interval. RESULTS: The threshold for release of epinephrine, norepinephrine, ACTH, and cortisol occurred at higher plasma glucose levels in NIDDM than in IDDM patients (P < 0.05-0.01). The glucose threshold for release of epinephrine and norepinephrine correlated with glycemic control as measured by glycosylated hemoglobin (P < 0.05-0.01). However, for a given level of glycemic control, the threshold for release of epinephrine and norepinephrine occurred at a higher glucose level in NIDDM versus IDDM patients (P < 0.05-0.01). At the nadir level of hypoglycemia, glucagon, ACTH, and cortisol levels were all higher in NIDDM compared with IDDM subjects, whereas GH levels were lower. CONCLUSIONS: Glycemic control alters counterregulatory responses to hypoglycemia in NIDDM as has been previously reported in IDDM. However, at similar levels of glycemic control, NIDDM patients release counterregulatory hormones at a higher plasma glucose level than patients with IDDM. In addition, subjects with NIDDM maintain their glucagon response to hypoglycemia. These data suggest that patients with NIDDM may be at reduced risk of severe hypoglycemia when compared with a group of IDDM patients in similar glycemic control, thus providing a more favorable risk-benefit ratio for intensive diabetes therapy in NIDDM.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate change both in lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] and lipid levels in other lipoproteins in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) after short-term improvement of glycemic control. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We compared Lp(a) levels in 210 NIDDM patients with those in 46 control subjects and evaluated the relationship between glycemic control and Lp(a) levels in diabetic patients. In addition, changes in Lp(a) levels and lipid levels were assessed after the improvement of glycemic control in 54 poorly controlled NIDDM patients. RESULTS: In NIDDM, Lp(a) levels in all patients, 62 patients with HbA1c < 6.0%, and 75 patients with HbA1c between 6.0 and 8.0%, were significantly higher than those in control subjects (19.1 [1.7-106.6], 19.2 [6.0-106.6], and 20.3 [2.7-75.3] vs. 15.4 [2.0-61.7] mg/dl, median [range], P < 0.05). Lp(a) levels in 73 patients with HbA1c of > or = 8.0% (18.7 [1.7-58.8] mg/dl) were not significantly different from those in control subjects. After glycemic control, lipid levels in plasma and in other lipoproteins fell significantly, but Lp(a) did not change (from 18.3 [1.7-58.8] to 18.4 [6.6-95.3] mg/dl). Changes in lipid levels, including Lp(a), did not correlate with those in fasting plasma glucose or HbA1c. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that elevated Lp(a) levels do not reflect poor glycemic control and that Lp(a) levels are independent of lipid levels in other lipoproteins after improved glycemic control in NIDDM.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: We analyzed myocardial flow reserve (MFR) in patients with non-insulin-dependent (type II) diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) without symptoms and signs of ischemia. BACKGROUND: Diminished MFR in diabetes has been suggested. However, it remains controversial whether MFR is related to glycemic control, mode of therapy or gender in NIDDM. METHODS: Myocardial blood flow (MBF) was measured at baseline and during dipyridamole loading in 25 asymptomatic, normotensive, normocholesterolemic patients with NIDDM and 12 age-matched control subjects by means of positron emission tomography and nitrogen-13 ammonia, after which MFR was calculated. RESULTS: Baseline MBF in patients with NIDDM ([mean +/- SD] 74.0 +/- 24.0 ml/min per 100 g body weight) was comparable to that in control subjects (73.0 +/- 17.0 ml/min per 100 g). However, MBF during dipyridamole loading was significantly lower in patients with NIDDM (184 +/- 99.0 ml/min per 100 g, p < 0.01) than in control subjects (262 +/- 120 ml/min per 100 g), as was MFR (NIDDM: 2.77 +/- 0.85; control subjects: 3.8 +/- 1.0, p < 0.01). A significantly decreased MFR was seen in men (2.35 +/- 0.84) compared with women with NIDDM (3.18 +/- 0.79, p < 0.05); however, no significant differences were found in terms of age, hemoglobin a1c and baseline MBF. MFR was comparable between the diet (2.78 +/- 0.80) and medication therapy groups (2.76 +/- 0.77) and was inversely correlated with average hemoglobin A1c for 5 years (r = -0.55, p < 0.01) and fasting plasma glucose concentration (r = -0.57, p < 0.01) but not age or lipid fractions. CONCLUSIONS: Glycemic control and gender, rather than mode of therapy, is related to MFR in NIDDM.  相似文献

Several studies suggested that lipoprotein (a)-Lp(a) is an independent atherogenic risk factor. Since non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) is characterized by an increased risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) as related to the general population, the main purpose of our study was to compare the plasma levels of apolipoprotein (a)-(apo) (a) in 30 NIDDM patients hospitalized in our department, and in 20 non-diabetic controls from Timi?oara. Apo (a) values were similar in the two groups (medians, 95% confidence intervals 57 (50-107) in NIDDM versus 58 (51-106) U/l in controls; p = 0.9097). We found weak correlations between apo (a) and hemoglobin A1 (HbA1) (r = 0.42). A significant association was noticed between apo (a) and apo B, both in NIDDM (r = 0.71) and in control subjects (r = 0.81) p < < 0.001. The diabetic patients were screened for microalbuminaria with the MICRAL-test and we compared apo (a) levels in those having albumin excretion values above and under the cut-off point (20 mg/l). Apo (a) concentrations were similar in both samples. We found no association between apo (a) and plasma lipid values. NIDDM patients on fair glycemic control have similar apo (a) concentrations to non-diabetic subjects and they do not seem to be influenced by diabetes duration, HbA1, microalbuminuria and plasma lipid values Apo (a) and apo B are significantly correlated, both in diabetic and non-diabetic subjects.  相似文献

In a study of school-age children with new-onset insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM), life stress, metabolic control (glycosylated hemoglobin), and psychiatric and psychosocial variables were assessed repeatedly for up to 6 years. Life stress was defined as the number of undesirable life events and extent of life change necessitated by all life events. In univariate longitudinal analyses, total life change units were related to metabolic control, with a trend for number of undesirable events to be associated with metabolic control. In multivariate analyses, metabolic control was related to life change units, whether the glycosylated hemoglobin was in the 1st year of IDDM, IDDM duration, and the diagnosis of pervasive noncompliance with medical regimen. The relationship of life stress to metabolic control among youths with diabetes is significant but clinically modest and may be partially mediated by serious noncompliance with the medical regimen. OBJECTIVE: To assess the level of serum lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] in nonobese and obese NIDDM subjects with android body distribution. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: Serum Lp(a) levels were measured in 30 long-standing NIDDM patients (duration of diabetes 12.5 +/- 3 years, mean +/- SD), with 15 of the patients being obese of android distribution (BMI > 30 kg/m2 and waist-to-hip ratio > 0.8). In addition, there were 15 android obese nondiabetic subjects and 10 healthy subjects serving as the control group. RESULTS: All groups of patients in this study (diabetic, obese, and obese diabetic) showed significantly higher levels of Lp(a) than the healthy control group. Lp(a) concentrations were significantly higher in NIDDM patients with android type of obesity than in nondiabetic androids (24.1 +/- 5.6 vs. 14.8 +/- 2.4 mg/dl, P < 0.001). Significantly greater levels of Lp(a) were found in nonobese subjects with diabetes when compared with obese subjects without diabetes (22.3 +/- 4.1 vs. 14.8 +/- 2.4 mg/dl, P < 0.001). Furthermore, Lp(a) serum concentrations were not dependent on the degree of glycemic control (controlled NIDDM 23.6 +/- 5.0 vs. uncontrolled NIDDM 21.4 +/- 2.7 mg/dl, NS), but were much greater in subjects with diabetes complicated by vascular disease (complicated 26.3 +/- 5.0 vs. uncomplicated 20.5 +/- 2.7 mg/dl, P < 0.001). No correlation was found between Lp(a) and other lipid parameters in this study. CONCLUSIONS: Lp(a) levels are significantly elevated in both android-obese and nonobese NIDDM patients regardless of the degree of glycemic control. Lp(a) is an independent risk factor showing greater elevations in those subjects complicated with diabetic vascular diseases.  相似文献

Few health-related quality of life (HRQOL) survey instruments are available to the Chinese, although many have been developed for Western populations. This article describes the testing of the acceptability, conceptual equivalence, scaling assumptions and construct validity of a Chinese (HK [Hong Kong]) version fo the MOS SF-36 Health Survey. A Chinese (HK) SF-36 survey form was developed by an iterative translation process. It was administered to 236 Chinese subjects who also rated the understanding, difficulty, relevance, and acceptability of each question. The scores were tested against the original scaling assumptions. The SF-36 profile of our subjects was compared to U.S. results for conceptual equivalence. Most subjects did not have any problem in understanding and answering the SF-36. Item means were generally clustered as hypothesized. All but a few items satisfied all scaling assumptions. The shape of the eight-scale SF-36 profile was similar to that of American patients, suggesting conceptual equivalence. We conclude that the Chinese (HK) version of the SF-36 Health Survey has achieved conceptual equivalence and satisfied the psychometric scaling assumptions well enough to warrant further use and testing, using the standard scoring algorithms.  相似文献

The importance of glycemic control in reducing the microvascular complications of type 1 diabetes has been clearly demonstrated with a long-term prospective, randomized interventional trial. The data are not as strong with regards to type 2 diabetes. The results of several prospective studies and one interventional study, however, all report benefits of improved glycemic indices on reducing microvascular complications. The available literature evaluating the relationship between glycemic control and macrovascular disease in type 1 and type 2 diabetes demonstrates the importance of glucose control. One could make rational scientific arguments or criticize the design and interpretations of any one individual study. Yet collectively the evidence is powerful. Additionally, there have been no negative studies reported. Lowering the glycosylated hemoglobin to less than 2 percentage points above the upper limit of normal should be the first glycemic goal for most patients with diabetes. Obviously, some patients cannot obtain this degree of control for a variety of reasons. Moreover, the intensity of therapy needs to be individualized and tailored to each patient. In addition, intensive glycemic control does not necessarily mean multiple injections or insulin pumps or home glucose monitoring 10 times a day. Intensive glycemic control means that the glycohemoglobin (hemoglobin and A1C and blood glucose values are in a normal or near-normal range, no matter how simple or how complex the treatment regimen. The most controversial issue is with regards to the relationship between hyperinsulinemia and accelerated atherosclerosis. This association is not consistently found in many of the large prospective studies, and certainly there has never been a direct cause-and-effect relationship proven. Most experts in the field recommend that insulin be reserved for patients with type II diabetes when oral therapy cannot achieve near-normal glycemic control. Weight gain and hypoglycemia are adverse effects of sulfonylurea and insulin therapy. These adverse effects are dwarfed, however, by the acute and chronic complications of poorly controlled diabetes. Lastly, estimates on the economic benefits of reducing long-term microvascular and macrovascular complications in populations are staggering. Based on the available literature, all patients with diabetes should be educated and have access to an appropriate individualized treatment regimen with the goal to normalize or near-normalize glycemic control. PURPOSE: To compare results of using the SF-36 Short Form 36 (SF-36) and the Quality of Well-being Scale (QWB) in characterizing health outcomes over time in patients having serious illnesses, including cancer and AIDS. BACKGROUND: The SF-36 and the QWB are alternative measures of health-related quality of life. The SF-36 is a morbidity measure that features a profile of nine dimensions. The QWB is a preference-based measure that combines morbidity and mortality into a single number. However, the QWB can also be scored and used as a profile. We compare SF-36 and QWB scores with different scoring methods to assess validity and sensitivity to change over time in health outcomes for adult patients with HIV infection, cancer, and other serious illnesses. SUBJECTS: 201 adults with serious illnesses, including 99 with AIDS and 102 with cancer or other illnesses. PROCEDURE: All subjects received both measures at baseline and at 6-month intervals thereafter, over a period of 21/2 years. RESULTS: In the profile mode, the QWB captured outcomes that characterize the AIDS syndrome. The SF-36 differentiated between the AIDS and other illnesses patients on some scales, but without consistent direction. However, the overall QWB showed a decrease in quality of life over time for both the AIDS and other illnesses patients while the SF-36 did not. This is because many patients died and these were counted as outcomes by the QWB and as missing data by the SF-36. CONCLUSIONS: The QWB appears to be better able to capture outcomes of serious illness over time than does the SF-36.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Because early-onset Japanese NIDDM patients (diagnosed before age 30 years) can develop diabetic end-stage renal failure (ESRF) in their thirties, this study was performed to elucidate the incidence and determinants for the development of diabetic nephropathy. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: The incidence of diabetic nephropathy and its relationship to baseline characteristics and long-term metabolic control were determined in 426 early-onset Japanese NIDDM patients who were followed for a mean of 6.8 years. RESULTS: Of these 426 patients, 41 developed diabetic nephropathy manifested by persistent proteinuria (incidence rate [95%CI]/1,000 person-years; 14.1 [10.4-19.1]). Among patients whose mean HbA1c (measured by a high-performance chromatography method that is standardized and comparable to the one used in the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial study) was around 7% or less, few developed nephropathy. The incidence of nephropathy increased with increasing mean HbA1c level in a dose-dependent manner (chi 2 trend = 49.9, P < 0.0001). Diastolic blood pressure and duration of diabetes at entry had significant predictive effects independent of metabolic control. CONCLUSIONS:The incidence rate of diabetic nephropathy in early-onset Japanese NIDDM patients is potentially high, similar to or higher than that in Pima Indian NIDDM or Caucasian IDDM patients of comparable age. Diabetic nephropathy in NIDDM patients aged in their thirties or forties is likely to be an early feature that leads to ESRF, and this would contribute to the marked increase in the number of new patients with diabetic ESRF in Japan. BACKGROUND: We studied cardiopulmonary function during exercise in young subjects with long-standing insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) who have no clinical cardiopulmonary disease to determine the relationships of aerobic capacity, gas exchange, ventilatory power requirement, and cardiac output to chronic glycemic control. METHODS: Eighteen subjects with IDDM and 14 normal control subjects were studied. Nine diabetic subjects received twice daily insulin injections and had chronically elevated levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (hyperglycemic group); 9 other diabetic subjects received insulin via continuous infusion pumps and maintained chronic near-normal levels of glycosylated hemoglobin (normoglycemic group). At the end of at least 7 years of regular follow-up, aerobic capacity was determined by cycle ergometry. Lung volume, diffusing capacity, and cardiac output during exercise were measured by a rebreathing technique. Ventilatory power was measured by the esophageal balloon technique. RESULTS: Maximal work load and oxygen uptake were markedly impaired in chronically hyperglycemic diabetic patients associated with significant restrictions of lung volume, lung diffusing capacity, and stroke index during exercise. Membrane diffusing capacity was significantly reduced at a given cardiac index. The normoglycemic patients consistently showed less impairment than the hyperglycemic patients. CONCLUSION: Physiologically significant cardiopulmonary dysfunction develops in asymptomatic patients with long-standing IDDM. Chronic maintenance of near-normoglycemia is associated with improved cardiopulmonary function.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: A randomized trial with 1-year follow-up was conducted in 23 general practices to study the relationship between target values for glycemic control and well-being in type 2 diabetes. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: A total of 176 patients with type 2 diabetes, aged 40-75 years, were included. General practitioners were encouraged to make decisions according to a standardized step-up regimen until the target level of glycemic control was reached. The random allocation to a strict or a less strict target level of glycemic control (fasting capillary glucose < 6.5 or < 8.5 mmol/l), change in HbA1c and fasting glucose, and initiating insulin or treatment with oral hypoglycemic agents were studied as putative determinants of scores on a type 2 diabetes symptom checklist, a profile of mood states, an affect balance scale, and general well-being. Adjustments were made for baseline scores on the outcome at issue. RESULTS: Positive affect (an odds ratio [OR] [95% CI] of 0.39 [0.19-0.83]) and perceived treatment burden (OR 0.48 [0.23-0.98]) were unfavorably altered in the group randomly allocated to stricter target levels (fasting capillary glucose < 6.5 mmol/l). Patients who had a decrease in HbA1c of 1% or more tended to have comparatively favorable mood (OR displeasure score 0.35 [0.13-0.94]) and general well-being scores at 1 year (ORs of having unfavorable scores ranged from 0.4 to 0.5, NS). CONCLUSIONS: Perceived treatment burden and positive effect are unfavorably affected by random allocation to a strict target level for glycemic control. The purpose of the present research was to provide initial validation of the 20-item Irrational Health Belief Scale (IHBS). Study 1 included 392 undergraduate psychology students. Results from Study 1 suggested that the IHBS total score is internally consistent and stable over an 18-month time period. Greater health-related cognitive distortion (higher IHBS scores) was associated with weaker internal health locus of control beliefs, lower positive affectivity, stronger chance health locus of control beliefs, and greater negative affectivity. Most important, greater cognitive distortion was uniquely and significantly associated with a less positive pattern of health practices. Study 2 involved 107 individuals with Type I diabetes mellitus. Results indicated that higher IHBS scores were significantly associated with both objective (hemoglobin HbA?) and self-reported diabetic regimen adherence independent of trait neuroticism and conscientiousness.
