移动流媒体中的编码技术简介

Media Streaming With Network Diversity

Today's packet networks including the Internet offer an intrinsic diversity for media distribution in terms of available network paths and servers or information sources. Novel communication infrastructures such as ad hoc or wireless mesh networks use network diversity to extend their reach at low cost. Diversity can bring interesting benefits in supporting resource greedy applications such as media streaming services, by aggregation of bandwidth and computing resources. Typically, overlay network architectures compensate for lack of quality-of-service guarantees in the network by introducing redundancy in the media delivery system through network diversity. They can support efficient multimedia services when routing, coding, and scheduling algorithms are able to adapt to both the media information and the dynamic network status. This paper presents an overview of the distributed streaming solutions that profit from network diversity in order to improve the quality of multimedia applications. We discuss the coding techniques used for adaptive and flexible media streaming with network diversity. We describe the problem of media streaming with path diversity and focus on routing, path computation, and packet scheduling problems in multipath networks. Then, the advantages of server or source peer diversity in collaborative streaming solutions are discussed. Lastly, we present an overview of wireless mesh networks and focus on the typical constraints imposed by these novel communication models on media streaming with network diversity.

计算机的普及、多媒体技术的发展以及Internet的迅速崛起,给远程教育带来了新的机遇.随着网络及流媒体技术的发展,越来越多的远程教育网站开始采用流媒体作为主要的网络教学方式.本文介绍了流式传输的基本原理以及支持流媒体传输的网络协议,最后给出了基于Windows Media Serv-ices平台的流媒体技术在网络教学中的典型应用方式.     

Segment-based proxy caching for Internet streaming media delivery

The proliferation of multimedia content on the Internet poses challenges to existing content delivery networks. While proxy caching can successfully deliver traditional text-based static objects, it faces difficulty delivering streaming media objects because of the objects' sizes as well as clients' rigorous continuous delivery demands. We present two techniques supporting segment based proxy caching of streaming media. We evaluated these techniques in simulations and real systems.     

Challenges and Approaches in Large-Scale P2P Media Streaming

Large-scale multimedia streaming over the Internet requires an enormous amount of server and network resources. Traditional client-server approaches allocate a dedicated stream from the server for each client request, which is expensive and doesn't scale well. By using end hosts' huge bandwidth and computational capacity, peer-to-peer technologies shed new light on media streaming applications' development. Yet, locating supplying peers and content delivery path maintenance are two major challenges in this area     

Internet delivery of MPEG-4 object-based multimedia

Object-based multimedia communications demand a much more sophisticated delivery framework for delivering synchronized, multiplexed, media object streams across the Internet or wireless networks. We describe the Moving Picture Expert Group's Delivery Multimedia Integration Framework (DMIF) and examine several remote retrieval issues. We also describe our design and implementation of a DMIF-based MPEG-4 multimedia streaming system.
