Hierarchical self‐assembly of small abiotic molecular modules interacting through noncovalent forces is increasingly being used to generate functional structures and materials for electronic, catalytic, and biomedical applications. The greatest control over the geometry in H‐bond supramolecular architectures, especially in H‐bonded supramolecular polymers, can be achieved by using conformationally rigid molecular modules undergoing self‐assembly through strong H‐bonds. Their binding strength depends on the multiplicity of the H‐bonds, the nature of donor/acceptor pairs and their secondary attractive/repulsive interactions. Here a functionalized molecular module is described, which is capable of self‐associating through self‐complementary H‐bonding patterns comprising four strong and two medium‐strength H‐bonds to form dimers. The self‐association of these phenylpyrimidine‐based dimers through directional H‐bonding between two lateral pyridin‐2(1H)‐one units of neighboring molecules allows the formation of highly compact 1D supramolecular polymers by self‐assembly on graphite. A concentration‐dependent study by scanning tunneling microscopy at the solid–liquid interface, corroborated by dispersion‐corrected density functional studies, reveals the controlled generation of either linear supramolecular 2D arrays, or long helical supramolecular polymers with a high shape persistence.  相似文献

Linear copolymer hosts bearing a number of pillar[5]arene dangling side chains are synthesized for the facile construction of highly emissive supramolecular polymer networks (SPNs) upon noncovalently cross‐linking with a series of tetraphenyethylene (TPE)‐based tetratopic guests terminated with different functional groups through supramolecular host–guest interactions. An extremely high fluorescence quantum yield (98.22%) of the SPNs materials is obtained in tetrahydrofuran (THF) by fine‐tuning the parameters, and meanwhile supramolecular light‐harvesting systems based on spherical supramolecular nanoparticles are constructed by interweaving 9,10‐distyrylanthracene (DSA) and TPE‐based guest molecules of aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) with the copolymer hosts in the mixed solvent of THF/H2O. The present study not only illustrates the restriction of the intramolecular rotations (RIR)‐ruled emission enhancement mechanism regulated particularly by macrocyclic arene‐containing copolymer hosts, but also suggests a new self‐assembly approach to construct high‐performance light‐harvesting materials.  相似文献

Bioimaging has revolutionized medicine by providing accurate information for disease diagnosis and treatment. Nanotechnology‐based bioimaging is expected to further improve imaging sensitivity and specificity. In this context, supramolecular nanosystems based on self‐assembly of amphiphilic dendrimers for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) bioimaging are developed. These dendrimers bear multiple In3+ radionuclides at their terminals as SPECT reporters. By replacing the macrocyclic 1,4,7,10‐tetraazacyclododecane‐1,4,7,10‐tetraacetic acid cage with the smaller 1,4,7‐triazacyclononane‐1,4,7‐triacetic acid scaffold as the In3+ chelator, the corresponding dendrimer exhibits neutral In3+‐complex terminals in place of negatively charged In3+‐complex terminals. This negative‐to‐neutral surface charge alteration completely reverses the zeta‐potential of the nanosystems from negative to positive. As a consequence, the resulting SPECT nanoprobe generates a highly sought‐after biodistribution profile accompanied by a drastically reduced uptake in liver, leading to significantly improved tumor imaging. This finding contrasts with current literature reporting that positively charged nanoparticles have preferential accumulation in the liver. As such, this study provides new perspectives for improving the biodistribution of positively charged nanosystems for biomedical applications.  相似文献

Herein, the synthesis and self‐assembling features of N‐heterotriangulenes 1 – 3 decorated in their periphery with 3,4,5‐trialkoxy‐N‐(alkoxy)benzamide moieties that enable kinetic control of the supramolecular polymerization process are described. The selection of an appropriate solvent results in a tunable energy landscape in which the relative energy of the different monomeric or aggregated species can be regulated. Thus, in a methylcyclohexane/toluene (MCH/Tol) mixture, intramolecular hydrogen‐bonding interactions in the peripheral side units favor the formation of metastable inactivated monomers that evolve with time at precise conditions of concentration and temperature. A pathway complexity in the supramolecular polymerization of 1 – 3 cannot be determined in MCH/Tol mixtures but, importantly, this situation changes by using CCl4. In this solvent, the off‐pathway product is a face‐to‐face H‐type aggregate and the on‐pathway product is the slipped face‐to‐face J‐type aggregate. The autocatalytic transformation of the metastable monomeric units, as well as the two competing off‐ and on‐pathway aggregates allow the realization of seeded and living supramolecular polymerizations. Interestingly, the presence of chiral, branched side chains in chiral ( S )‐ 2 noticeably retards the kinetics of the investigated transformations. This work brings to light the relevance of controlling the pathway complexity in self‐assembling units and opens new avenues for the investigation of complex and functional supramolecular structures.  相似文献

Perovskite nanocrystals are attracting great interest due to their excellent photonic properties. Here, through a supramolecular self‐assembly approach, the perovskite nanocrystals (NCs) with a novel circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are successfully endowed. It is found that the achiral perovskite NCs can coassemble with chiral gelator in nonpolar solvents, in which the gelator molecules modify the surface of the perovskite NCs. Through such cogelation, the molecular chirality can transfer to the NCs resulting in CPL signals with a dissymmetric factor (glum) up to 10?3. Furthermore, depending on the molecular chirality of the gelator, the CPL sense can be selected and the mirror‐imaged CPL is obtained. Such gels can be further embedded into the polymer film to facilitate flexible CPL devices. It is envisaged that this approach will afford a new insight into the designing of the functional chiroptical materials.  相似文献

Polymer self‐assembly in solution prior to film fabrication makes solution‐state structures critical for their solid‐state packing and optoelectronic properties. However, unraveling the solution‐state supramolecular structures is challenging, not to mention establishing a clear relationship between the solution‐state structure and the charge‐transport properties in field‐effect transistors. Here, for the first time, it is revealed that the thin‐film morphology of a conjugated polymer inherits the features of its solution‐state supramolecular structures. A “solution‐state supramolecular structure control” strategy is proposed to increase the electron mobility of a benzodifurandione‐based oligo(p‐ phenylene vinylene) (BDOPV)‐based polymer. It is shown that the solution‐state structures of the BDOPV‐based conjugated polymer can be tuned such that it forms a 1D rod‐like structure in good solvent and a 2D lamellar structure in poor solvent. By tuning the solution‐state structure, films with high crystallinity and good interdomain connectivity are obtained. The electron mobility significantly increases from the original value of 1.8 to 3.2 cm2 V?1 s?1. This work demonstrates that “solution‐state supramolecular structure” control is critical for understanding and optimization of the thin‐film morphology and charge‐transport properties of conjugated polymers.  相似文献

Controlling supramolecular self‐assembly in water‐based solutions is an important problem of interdisciplinary character that impacts the development of many functional materials and systems. Significant progress in aqueous self‐assembly and templating has been demonstrated by using lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals (LCLCs) as these materials show spontaneous orientational order caused by unidirectional stacking of plank‐like molecules into elongated aggregates. In this work, it is demonstrated that the alignment direction of chromonic assemblies can be patterned into complex spatially‐varying structures with very high micrometer‐scale precision. The approach uses photoalignment with light beams that exhibit a spatially‐varying direction of light polarization. The state of polarization is imprinted into a layer of photosensitive dye that is protected against dissolution into the LCLC by a liquid crystalline polymer layer. The demonstrated level of control over the spatial orientation of LCLC opens opportunities for engineering materials and devices for optical and biological applications.  相似文献

Amphiphilicity is one of the molecular bases for self‐assembly. By tuning the amphiphilicity of building blocks, controllable self‐assembly can be realized. This article reviews different routes for tuning amphiphilicity and discusses different possibilities for self‐assembly and disassembly in a controlled manner. In general, this includes irreversible and reversible routes. The irreversible routes concern irreversible reactions taking place on the building blocks and changing their molecular amphiphilicity. The building blocks are then able to self‐assemble to form different supramolecular structures, but cannot remain stable upon loss of amphiphilicity. Compared to the irreversible routes, the reversible routes are more attractive due to the good control over the assembly and disassembly of the supramolecular structure formed via tuning of the amphiphilicity. These routes involve reversible chemical reactions and supramolecular approaches, and different external stimuli can be used to trigger reversible changes of amphiphilicity, including light, redox, pH, and enzymes. It is anticipated that this line of research can lead to the fabrication of new functional supramolecular assemblies and materials.  相似文献

Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death, which has continuously stimulated the development of numerous functional biomaterials with anticancer activities. Herein is reviewed one recent trend of biomaterials focusing on the advances in enzyme‐instructed supramolecular self‐assembly (EISA) with anticancer activity. EISA relies on enzymatic transformations to convert designed small‐molecular precursors into corresponding amphiphilic residues that can form assemblies in living systems. EISA has shown some advantages in controlling cell fate from three aspects. 1) Based on the abnormal activity of specific enzymes, EISA can differentiate cancer cells from normal cells. In contrast to the classical ligand–receptor recognition, the targeting capability of EISA relies on dynamic control of the self‐assembly process. 2) The interactions between EISA and cellular components directly disrupt cellular processes or pathways, resulting in cell death phenotypes. 3) EISA spatiotemporally controls the distribution of therapeutic agents, which boosts drug delivery efficiency. Therefore, with regard to the development of EISA, the aim is to provide a perspective on the future directions of research into EISA as anticancer theranostics.  相似文献

Ionic self‐assembly of charged molecular building blocks relies on the interplay between long‐range electrostatic forces and short‐range, often cooperative, supramolecular interactions, yet has been seldom studied in two dimensions at the solid–liquid interface. Here, we demonstrate anion‐driven switching of two‐dimensional (2D) crystal structure at the Au(111)/octanoic acid interface. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), three organic salts with identical polyaromatic cation (PQPC6+) but different anions (perchlorate, anthraquinonedisulfonate, benzenesulfonate) are shown to form distinct, highly ordered self‐assembled structures. Reversible switching of the supramolecular arrangement is demonstrated by in situ exchange of the anion on the pre‐formed adlayer, by changing the concentration ratio between the incoming and outgoing anion. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that perchlorate is highly mobile in the adlayer, and corroborate why this anion is only resolved transiently in STM. Surprisingly, the templating effect of the anion persists even where it does not become part of the adlayer 2D fabric, which we ascribe to differences in stabilization of cation conformations by the anion. Our results provide important insight into the structuring of mixed anion–cation adlayers. This is essential in the design of tectons for ionic self‐assembled superstructures and biomimetic adaptive materials and valuable also to understand adsorbate–adsorbate interactions in heterogeneous catalysis.  相似文献

Self‐organization in synthetic chemical systems is quickly developing into a powerful strategy for designing new functional materials. As self‐organization requires the system to exist far from thermodynamic equilibrium, chemists have begun to go beyond the classical equilibrium self‐assembly that is often applied in bottom‐up supramolecular synthesis, and to learn about the surprising and unpredicted emergent properties of chemical systems that are characterized by a higher level of complexity and extended reactivity networks. The present review focuses on self‐organization in reaction‐diffusion systems. Selected examples show how the emergence of complex morphogenesis is feasible in synthetic systems leading to hierarchically and nanostructured matter. Starting from well‐investigated oscillating reactions, recent developments extend diffusion‐limited reactivity to supramolecular systems. The concept of dynamic instability is introduced and illustrated as an additional tool for the design of smart materials and actuators, with emphasis on the realization of motion even at the macroscopic scale. The formation of spatio‐temporal patterns along diffusive chemical gradients is exploited as the main channel to realize symmetry breaking and therefore anisotropic and directional mechanical transformations. Finally, the interaction between external perturbations and chemical gradients is explored to give mechanistic insights in the design of materials responsive to external stimuli.  相似文献

The molecular structuring of complex architectures and the enclosure of space are essential requirements for technical and living systems. Self‐assembly of supramolecular structures with desired shape, size, and stability remains challenging since it requires precise regulation of physicochemical and conformational properties of the components. Here a general platform for controlled self‐assembly of tailored amphiphilic elastin‐like proteins into desired supramolecular protein assemblies ranging from spherical coacervates over molecularly defined twisted fibers to stable unilamellar vesicles is introduced. The described assembly protocols efficiently yield protein membrane–based compartments (PMBC) with adjustable size, stability, and net surface charge. PMBCs demonstrate membrane fusion and phase separation behavior and are able to encapsulate structurally and chemically diverse cargo molecules ranging from small molecules to naturally folded proteins. The ability to engineer tailored supramolecular architectures with defined fusion behavior, tunable properties, and encapsulated cargo paves the road for novel drug delivery systems, the design of artificial cells, and confined catalytic nanofactories.  相似文献

For the development of applications and novel uses for peptide nanostructures, robust routes for their surface functionalization, that ideally do not interfere with their self‐assembly properties, are required. Many existing methods rely on covalent functionalization, where building blocks are appended with functional groups, either pre‐ or post‐assembly. A facile supramolecular approach is demonstrated for the formation of functionalized nanofibers by combining the advantages of biocatalytic self‐assembly and surfactant/gelator co‐assembly. This is achieved by enzymatically triggered reconfiguration of free flowing micellar aggregates of pre‐gelators and functional surfactants to form nanofibers that incorporate and display the surfactants’ functionality at the surface. Furthermore, by varying enzyme concentration, the gel stiffness and supramolecular organization of building blocks can be varied.  相似文献

Increasingly high hopes are being placed on organic semiconductors for a variety of applications. Progress along these lines, however, requires the design and growth of increasingly complex systems with well‐defined structural and electronic properties. These issues have been studied and reviewed extensively in single‐component layers, but the focus is gradually shifting towards more complex and functional multi‐component assemblies such as donor–acceptor networks. These blends show different properties from those of the corresponding single‐component layers, and the understanding on how these properties depend on the different supramolecular environment of multi‐component assemblies is crucial for the advancement of organic devices. Here, our understanding of two‐dimensional multi‐component layers on solid substrates is reviewed. Regarding the structure, the driving forces behind the self‐assembly of these systems are described. Regarding the electronic properties, recent insights into how these are affected as the molecule's supramolecular environment changes are explained. Key information for the design and controlled growth of complex, functional multicomponent structures by self‐assembly is summarized.  相似文献

Hyperbranched polymers (HBPs) are highly branched macromolecules with a three‐dimensional dendritic architecture. Due to their unique topological structure and interesting physical/chemical properties, HBPs have attracted wide attention from both academia and industry. In this paper, the recent developments in HBP self‐assembly and their biomedical applications have been comprehensively reviewed. Many delicate supramolecular structures from zero‐dimension (0D) to three‐dimension (3D), such as micelles, fibers, tubes, vesicles, membranes, large compound vesicles and physical gels, have been prepared through the solution or interfacial self‐assembly of amphiphilic HBPs. In addition, these supramolecular structures have shown promising applications in the biomedical areas including drug delivery, protein purification/detection/delivery, gene transfection, antibacterial/antifouling materials and cytomimetic chemistry. Such developments promote the interdiscipline researches among surpramolecular chemistry, biomedical chemistry, nanotechnology and functional materials.  相似文献

Cell nanoencapsulation provides a chemical tool for the isolation and protection of living cells from harmful, and often lethal, external environments. Although several strategies are available to form nanometric films, most methods heavily rely on time‐consuming multistep processes and are not biocompatible. Here, the interfacial supramolecular self‐assembly and film formation of ferric ions (FeIII) and tannic acid (TA) in biphasic systems is reported, where FeIII and TA come into contact each other and self‐assemble across the interface of two immiscible phases. The interfacial nanofilm formation developed is simple, fast, and cytocompatible. Its versatility is demonstrated with various biphasic systems: hollow microcapsules, encasing microbial or mammalian cells, that are generated at the water–oil interface in a microfluidic device; a cytoprotective FeIII–TA shell that forms on the surface of the alginate microbead, which then entraps probiotic Lactobacillus acidophilus; and a pericellular FeIII–TA shell that forms on individual Saccharomyces cerevisiae. This biphasic interfacial reaction system provides a simple but versatile structural motif in materials science, as well as advancing chemical manipulability of living cells.  相似文献

Compared to the extensively studied nanometer‐sized colloids, less attention has been paid to the assembly of micrometer‐sized colloids with multifunctional characteristics. To address this need, a bottom‐up approach is developed for constructing self‐assemblies of micrometer‐sized magnetic colloids possessing multifunctionality, including magnetic, optical, and biological activities. Biotinylated oligo (p‐phenylene vinylene) (OPV) derivatives are designed to mediate the self‐assembly of streptavidin‐modified magnetic beads. The optical element OPV derivatives provide a fluorescence imaging ability for tracing the assembly process. Target cells can be recognized and assembled by the colloidal assembly with bioactive element antibodies. The colloidal assembly reveals better cell isolation performance by its amplified magnetic response in comparison to monodisperse colloids. The self‐assembly of micrometer‐sized magnetic colloids through a combination of different functional ingredients to realize multifunction is conceptually simple and easy to achieve.  相似文献

Macroscopic supramolecular assembly (MSA) represents a new advancement in supramolecular chemistry involving building blocks with sizes beyond tens of micrometers associating through noncovalent interactions. MSA is established as a unique method to fabricate supramolecularly assembled materials by shortening the length scale between bulk materials and building blocks. However, improving the precise alignment during assembly to form orderly assembled structures remains a challenge. Although the pretreatment of building blocks can ameliorate order to a certain degree, defects or mismatching still exists, which limits the practical applications of MSA. Therefore, an iterative poststrategy is proposed, where self‐correction based on dynamic assembly/disassembly is applied to achieve precise, massive, and parallel assembly. The self‐correction process consists of two key steps: the identification of poorly ordered structures and the selective correction of these structures. This study develops a diffusion‐kinetics‐dependent disassembly to well identify the poorly aligned structures and correct these structures through iterations of disassembly/reassembly in a programmed fashion. Finally, a massive and parallel assembly of 100 precise dimers over eight iteration cycles is achieved, thus providing a powerful solution to the problem of processing insensitivity to errors in self‐assembly‐related methods.  相似文献

Graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) attract great attention for their unique properties and promising application potential. The difficulty in the formation of a confined structure, and the numerous and diverse oxygen‐containing functional groups results in a low emission yield to GOQDs. Here, GOQDs with a size of about 5 nm, exfoliated from carbon fibers by microwave irradiation, are detected and analyzed. The exfoliated GOQDs are deeply oxidized and induce large numbers of epoxy groups and ether bonds, but only a small amount of carbonyl groups and hydroxyl groups. The subdomains of sp2 clusters, involving epoxy groups and ether bonds, are responsible for the two strong photoluminescence emissions of GOQDs under different excitation wavelengths. Moreover, GOQDs tend to self‐assemble at the edges of their planes to form self‐assembly films (SAFs) with the evaporation of water. SAFs can further assemble into different 3D patterns with unique microstructures such as sponge bulk, sponge ball, microsheet, sisal, and schistose coral, which are what applications such as supercapacitors, cells, catalysts, and electrochemical sensors need. This method for preparation of GOQDs is easy, quick, and environmentally friendly, and this work may open up new research interests about GOQDs.  相似文献

A joint experimental and computational study is reported on the concentration‐dependant self‐assembly of a flat C3‐symmetric molecule on a graphite surface. As a model system a tripodal molecule, 1,3,5‐tris(pyridin‐3‐ylethynyl)benzene, has been chosen, which can adopt either C3h or Cs symmetry when planar, as a result of pyridyl rotation along the alkynyl spacers. Density functional theory (DFT) simulations of 2D nanopatterns with different surface coverage reveal that the molecule can generate different types of self‐assembled motifs. The stability of fourteen 2D patterns and the influence of concentration are analyzed. It is found that ordered, densely packed monolayers and 2D porous networks are obtained at high and low concentrations, respectively. A concentration‐dependent scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) investigation of this molecular self‐assembly system at a solution/graphite interface reveals four supramolecular motifs, which are in perfect agreement with those predicted by simulations. Therefore, this DFT method represents a key step forward toward the atomically precise prediction of molecular self‐assembly on surfaces and at interfaces.  相似文献
