The objective of this research was development of a quantitative model of simultaneous contrast (induction) to aid selection of sets of easily identified map colors. The model is an extension of R. W. G. Hunt's model of color appearance. Contrasts between central and proximal colors were used to adjust Hunt's lightness, relative redness-greenness, and relative yellowness-blueness measures. Human subject responses to CRT displays in an experiment were analyzed to produce a set of rules for selecting map colors. Rather than predict average perceptions for central/proximal color combinations, acknowledgment was made of the inherent variability in map readers' perceptions of color by developing generalized perception buffers that accounted for at least 90% of test subject responses. The task of selecting colors that will not be confused once they appear with numerous proximal colors on a map thus becomes a task of selecting colors that do not have buffers that overlap in color space. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The importance of reaction engineering in generating a myriad of products on which developed societies depend is outlined. The challenges of a political, economic, and technical nature that need to be addressed in rendering conversion of raw materials into desired products that are more environmentally friendly and sustainable are briefly discussed. It is shown that multiphase reactors are prevalent in all applications, and improvements in the reactor material and energy efficiencies lead to more environmentally benign processes. This requires, in addition to the selection of green process chemistry, systematic implementation of the multi-scale reaction engineering methodology to accomplish proper reactor type selection and scaleup for commercial applications. It is also illustrated that recent innovations in multiphase reaction engineering basically utilize two key concepts: process intensification (e.g., enhancement in mass and heat transfer rates) and simultaneous reaction and separation. Examples of these are discussed, such as micro-reactors, reactive distillation, etc. It is also shown that commercialization of bench-scale discoveries requires either scaleup in parallel or vertical scaleup. New tools for visualization of opaque multiphase flows and development of appropriate rational phenomenological multiphase reactor models for scaleup and design are also briefly discussed.  相似文献

Roasting is a complex process of simultaneous heat and mass transfer involving water removal as well as color and flavor changes. In this study, the lumped-reaction engineering approach (L-REA) was implemented to model roasting of barley and coffee. The approach was able to capture the details of the process kinetics and the predictions matched the experimental data well. Benchmarks against the diffusion-based model indicated that the L-REA yielded comparable or even better results. As such, the L-REA approach can be adopted for simulation of the roasting process and optimization or model-based control strategies.  相似文献

我国的色母粒生产厂有400多家,生产能力30万t/a,98%以上企业采用干法生产工艺。全国色母粒的年需求不到12万t,生产能力严重过剩。到2005年,预计塑料工业需色母粒15万~24万t,建筑材料需1万t,工程塑料需4万t,薄膜需3万t。国外色母粒的市场主要集中在西欧、北美和日本,生产企业多是跨国公司或世界500强企业。预计美国色母粒产量增长速度将会高于塑料工业,并且工程塑料用色母粒的利润将会大于其它树脂用色母粒的利润。最近开发成功的色母粒原料有色砂、微粉蜡和茂金属催化合成的树脂。色母粒向颜料高浓度发展和色母粒与添加剂相结合开发多功能产品是色母粒今后的发展方向。  相似文献

A color selection method that considers subjective principles is becoming more and more necessary in a computer‐based color management system. However, one from an engineering perspective has received limited attention. Previously, we developed an approach to measure the degree of color harmony by the similarity of a pleasure‐related function, CLD (color linguistic distribution), to a RHD (reference harmony distribution) on a one‐dimensional image scale of EXCITING–CALM. Following this approach, a new color selection system is presented in this article by modulating the CLD on the image scale. The procedure used is to encode an inharmonious image as a CLD, then it is modulated and referred to as a RHD, called an imagery specification. Finally, the specified CLD is decoded and reconstructed as a harmonious image in an operated color space. Four types of RHD are compared: three ideal fuzzy sets scaled to extremely calm, quite calm, and slightly calm, and the practical one measured from social trends. For verification, the harmony grade of the decoded image can be measured based on the referred RHD. As a result, four times the harmonic degree of the decoded image is gained than the originally encoded one. Creating a satisfying qualitative color scheme from scratch may be difficult for novice mapmakers and experts. A probability‐based method is proposed to identify knowledge regarding qualitative color selection from readily available color schemes and formalize the discovered knowledge to assist in color creation. An unsupervised method to extract the general trends of color selection is presented, and the issue of qualitative color selection is translated into a multi‐constraint optimization problem. A feasible solution for achieving the global optimum is then provided. A probability‐based method is also proposed to match abstract color values with specific mapping features. This proposed approach is evaluated in a case study. The results of the case study suggest that the proposed method allows users to create qualitative color schemes more efficiently and confidently.  相似文献
