The call admission control (CAC) belongs to the category of resource management. Since the radio spectrum is very scarce resource, CAC is one of the most important engineering issues for mobile communications. In this paper, we propose a CAC scheme for direct sequence code-division multiple-access cellular systems supporting mobile multimedia communications services. There are multiple call classes in multimedia services and the required signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) varies with call classes. Call admission decision in the proposed scheme is based on SIR measurement. We take account of the traffic asymmetry between uplink and downlink, which is the most important characteristic of multimedia traffic. In addition, the proposed scheme guarantees the priority of handoff call requests over new call requests. We evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme using Markov analysis. The performance measures which we focus on are the system throughput and the blocking probabilities of handoff calls and new calls. The outage probability of a call in progress is also calculated, which is the probability that the measured bit energy-to-noise density ratio of the call is smaller than the required value for maintaining adequate transmission quality. We present some numerical examples with practically meaningful parameter values and, as a result, show that the proposed CAC scheme can operate well in the mobile multimedia systems such as the International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) systems.  相似文献

As the radio spectrum is a very scarce resource, the Call Admission Control (CAC) is one of the most important parts in radio resource management. The Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) based next generation wireless communications systems will support the transmission of multimedia traffic, such as voice, video and data, thus the CAC, which can support the multimedia traffic and guarantee the Quality of Service (QoS) of different traffic, has gained broad attention. In this paper, a novel multimedia traffic modeling method and a corresponding dynamic QoS based CAC are proposed. The analysis and simulation results show that the proposed CAC scheme can guarantee the QoS to different traffic demand, and improve the system performance significantly.  相似文献

Mobile Internet access is expected to be the most popular communication service in the near future. In this paper, we investigate radio resource management for mobile Internet multimedia systems that use the orthogonal frequency division multiple access and adopt the adaptive modulation and coding technique. It is assumed that real-time (RT) service such as streaming video and best-effort (BE) services such as file transfer protocol and hypertext transfer protocol coexist in the systems. We suggest two levels of radio resource management schemes: the connection admission control (CAC) scheme at the first level and the packet transmission scheduler at the second level. The proposed scheduler does not assign higher priority to RT packets over BE packets unconditionally. Instead, only the RT packets that are close to the deadline are given higher priority. Therefore, the performance of BE services is improved at the cost of RT services. To control the performance degradation in RT services within an acceptable level, the CAC algorithm functions as a congestion controller. The combined effects of the proposed CAC and packet scheduling by using the cross-layer simulation that covers from the physical layer to the Internet application layer are evaluated. The numerical results show that the proposed schemes greatly improve the performance of BE services while maintaining the quality of video service at an acceptable level.  相似文献

This paper targets mobile telemedicine applications that can be supported using third generation (3G) cellular networks, to provide highly flexible medical services. On the other hand, large-scale Ad hoc Sensor Networks (ASN), when deployed among mobile patients who may carry different kinds of micro-sensors to measure ECG, blood pressure, basal temperature or other physiological data, can provide a dynamic data query architecture to allow the medical specialists to monitor patients at any place. So far very little research has been conducted to explore the possibility of integrating ASN with mobile telemedicine. In this paper: 1. we suggest an integrated architecture that takes advantage of the low cost mobile sensor networks and 3G cellular networks to support multimedia medical calls with differentiated Quality-of-Service (QoS) requirements. 2. We propose a low-energy, distributed, concentric-zone-based data query mechanism that has the advantages of both proactive and reactive ad hoc routing algorithms to collect medical results from large-scale mobile patients for medical specialists who use cellular network to report patient data to the medical center. 3. In order to minimize the ambulance wireless call-dropping rate, we adopt accurate resource reservation call admission control (CAC) scheme to allocate the necessary bandwidth in the destination cell. 4. In order to meet the QoS requirements of patients’ wireless calls, we use dynamic guard channel CAC scheme to keep their handoff-call dropping rate below a certain threshold. We evaluate the validity of our schemes through simulations and analyze their performance. Our results clearly indicate the efficiency of the proposed CAC and sensor network query algorithms to meet the multimedia telemedicine QoS requirements.  相似文献

In wireless multimedia communication systems, call admission control (CAC) is critical for simultaneously achieving a high resource utilization efficiency and maintaining quality-of-service (QoS) to mobile users. User mobility, heterogeneous nature of multimedia traffic, and limited radio spectrum pose significant challenges to CAC. QoS provisioning to both new calls and handoff calls comes with a cost of low resource utilization. This paper proposes a CAC policy for a wireless communication system supporting integrated voice and dataservices. In particular, soft QoS (or relaxed target QoS) is incorporated in the CAC policy to make compromises among different objectives.Numerical results are presented to demonstrate that (a) in dealing with the dilemma between QoS satisfaction and high resource utilization, how the resource utilization efficiency can be increased by introducing soft QoS; and (b) in accommodating different types of traffic, how the QoS of low priority traffic can be improved by specifying soft QoS to high priority traffic.  相似文献

Resource allocation and call admission control (CAC) are key management functions in future cellular networks, in order to provide multimedia applications to mobiles users with quality of service (QoS) guarantees and efficient resource utilization. In this paper, we propose and analyze a priority based resource sharing scheme for voice/data integrated cellular networks. The unique features of the proposed scheme are that 1) the maximum resource utilization can be achieved, since all the leftover capacity after serving the high priority voice traffic can be utilized by the data traffic; 2) a Markovian model for the proposed scheme is established, which takes account of the complex interaction of voice and data traffic sharing the total resources; 3) optimal CAC parameters for both voice and data calls are determined, from the perspective of minimizing resource requirement and maximizing new call admission rate, respectively; 4) load adaption and bandwidth allocation adjustment policies are proposed for adaptive CAC to cope with traffic load variations in a wireless mobile environment. Numerical results demonstrate that the proposed CAC scheme is able to simultaneously provide satisfactory QoS to both voice and data users and maintain a relatively high resource utilization in a dynamic traffic load environment. The recent measurement-based modeling shows that the Internet data file size follows a lognormal distribution, instead of the exponential distribution used in our analysis. We use computer simulations to demonstrate that the impact of the lognormal distribution can be compensated for by conservatively applying the Markovian analysis results.  相似文献

The CAC (call admission control), which can guarantee call services to meet their QoS (Quality of Service) requirements, plays a significant role in providing QoS in wireless mobile networks. In this paper, an adaptive multiguard channel scheme‐based CAC strategy is proposed to prioritize traffic types and handoff calls. The major aim of the study is to develop the analytical model of the priority traffic and handoff calls based adaptive multiguard channel scheme and examining the performance through setting the value of the adaptive ratio parameters. Our proposed scheme tries to mediate the advantages and drawbacks of the static and dynamic CAC schemes. The proposed scheme is quite different from previous studies because multithreshold values have been considered for multiclass traffic by adaption parameters, and a closed form analytical model is developed The numerical results show that this scheme can be used to keep the targeted QoS requirement by suitably setting the adaptive ratio parameters. An efficient call admission control scheme for handling heterogeneous services in wireless ATM networks is proposed. Quality-of-service provisioning of jitter bounds for constant bit rate traffic and delay bounds for variable bit rate traffic is used in the CAC scheme to guarantee predefined QoS levels for all traffic classes. To reduce the forced handoff call dropping rate, the CAC scheme gives handoff calls a higher priority than new calls by reserving an appropriate amount of resources for potential handoff calls. Resource reservation in the CAC scheme makes use of user mobility information to ensure efficient resource utilization. Simulation results show that the proposed CAC scheme can achieve both low handoff call dropping rate and high resource utilization  相似文献

A novel Call Admission Control(CAC)scheme is proposed for multimedia CDMA systems. The effectivebandwidth of real time calls is reserved in the CAC with the consideration of active factors. The admission of non-real timecalls is controlled by the system according to the residual effective bandwidth left from real time calls.Simulation resultshave shown that the novel CAC has greatly enlarged the admission region for real time calls and make the transmission de-lay of non-real time calls under an acceptable level.  相似文献

The provision of multiclass services is gaining wide acceptance and will be more ubiquitous in future wireless and mobile systems. The crucial issue is to provide the guaranteed mobile quality of service (QoS) for arriving multiclass calls. In multimedia cellular networks, we should not only minimize the dropping rate of handoff calls, but also control the blocking rate of new calls at an acceptable level. This paper proposes a novel multiclass call-admission-control mechanism that is based on a dynamic reservation pool for handoff requests. In this paper, we propose the concept of servicing multiclass connections based on priority determination through the combined analysis of mobile movement information and the desired QoS requirements of multimedia traffic. A practical framework is provided to determine the occurrence time of handoff-request reservations. In our simulation experiments, three kinds of timers are introduced for controlling the progress of discrete events. Our simulation results show that the individual QoS criteria of multiclass traffic such as the handoff call-dropping probability can be achieved within a targeted objective and the new-call-blocking probability is constrained to be below a given level. The proposed scheme is applicable to channel allocation of multiclass calls over high-speed wireless multimedia networks.  相似文献

This paper proposes a QoS approach for an adaptive call admission control (CAC) scheme for multiclass service wireless cellular networks. The QoS of the proposed CAC scheme is achieved through call bandwidth borrowing and call preemption techniques according to the priorities of the traffic classes, using complete sharing of the available bandwidth. The CAC scheme maintains QoS in each class to avoid performance deterioration through mechanisms for call bandwidth degradation, and call bandwidth upgrading based on min–max and max–min policies for fair resource deallocation and reallocation, respectively. The proposed adaptive CAC scheme utilizes a measurement‐based online monitoring approach of the system performance, and a prediction model to determine the amount of bandwidth to be borrowed from calls, or the amount of bandwidth to be returned to calls. The simulation‐based performance evaluation of the proposed adaptive CAC scheme shows the strength and effectiveness of our proposed scheme. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel call admission control (CAC) scheme using fuzzy logic is proposed for the reverse link transmission in wideband code division multiple access (CDMA) cellular communications. The fuzzy CAC scheme first estimates the effective bandwidths of the call request from a mobile station (MS) and its mobility information, then makes a decision to accept or reject the connection request based on the estimation and system resource availability. Numerical results are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed fuzzy CAC scheme in terms of new call blocking probability/handoff call dropping probability, outage probability, and resource utilization.  相似文献

With the fast growth of Internet services, the demand for wireless high speed and advanced multimedia communications is rapidly increasing. Initial multimedia services have already been offered in the second generation systems (2-G). Currently, the third generation systems (3-G) are being deployed and it will support up to 2 Mbps packet oriented data services. But it is expected that the demand for higher data rate and large variety of high quality services will increase further more. Therefore, it is mandatory for the fourth generation systems (4-G) to take each user's quality of service (QoS) control into account. In this paper, we firstly describe an overview on requirements and technical issues for the 4-G systems, and wireless QoS control issues considering End-to-End QoS control in the IP network. Next, we propose broadband wireless access method for the fourth generation mobile communication systems. The proposed method for downlink is based on MC-CDMA (Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access) with Multi-Timeslot, in which total downlink resources are split into three aggregates according to the QoS classes in time domain. It is considered that one of the typical advantages for the MC-CDMA is the effect of frequency diversity. We evaluated the effect by computer simulation using ray-traced propagation model. Simulation results show that short-term fading can be relaxed. Furthermore, we propose Multi-Level (ML) ARQ as one of the link adaptation methods. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme has a good performance with throughput and average retransmission power.  相似文献

With their inherent broadcast capabilities and reliable extensive geographical coverage, the broadband satellite networks are emerging as a promising approach for the delivery of multimedia services in 3G and beyond systems. Given the limited capacity of the satellite component, to meet the diverse quality of service (QoS) demands of multimedia applications, it is highly desired that the available resources can be adaptively utilized in an optimized way. In this paper, we draw our attention on the development and evaluation of an efficient packet scheduling scheme in a representative broadband satellite system, namely satellite digital multimedia broadcasting (SDMB), which is positioned as one of the most attractive solutions in the convergence of a closer integration with the terrestrial mobile networks for a cost‐effective delivery of point‐to‐multipoint services. By taking into account essential aspects of a successful QoS provisioning while preserving the system power/resource constraints, the proposed adaptive multidimensional QoS‐based (AMQ) packet scheduling scheme in this paper aims to effectively satisfy diverse QoS requirements and adaptively optimize the resource utilization for the satellite multimedia broadcasting. The proposed scheme is formulated via an adaptive service prioritization algorithm and an adaptive resource allocation algorithm. By taking into account essential performance criteria, the former is capable of prioritizing contending flows based on the QoS preferences and performance dynamics, while the latter allocates the resources, in an adaptive manner, according to the current QoS satisfaction degree of each session. Simulation results show that the AMQ scheme achieves significantly better performance than those of existing schemes on multiple performance metrics, e.g. delay, throughput, channel utilization and fairness. Handoffs in a mobile cellular communications environment will become an increasingly important issue as cell sizes shrink to accommodate an increasingly large demand for services. A new handoff ordering method is proposed which can be used to provide rapid handovers with a smaller percentage of dropped calls than other methods. Signal prediction priority queuing (SPPQ) is a generic queuing method which can be adapted to almost any handover technique for the benefit of decreased dropped calls. In typical personal communication systems (PCSs) environment, it is shown that for realistic call-blocking probabilities (2%-6%), SPPQ leads to about 15% fewer dropped calls compared to first-in-first-out (FIFO) queuing. This benefit comes at the expense of a slight increase (<1%) in blocked call percentage. The proposed SPPQ scheme is also compared to a previously developed method called measurement-based priority scheme (MBPS), and, based on worst case scenarios, it is shown to outperform MBPS as well  相似文献

In wireless environment the bandwidth resource is limited and therefore judicious use of the available resources is needed. A bandwidth efficient Call Admission Control (CAC) is proposed in this paper for quality of service (QoS) provisioning for the services defined in IEEE 802.16e mobile WiMAX standards to satisfy both bandwidth and delay guarantees to the admitted connections. The concept of adaptive bandwidth degradation is introduced to improve the bandwidth utilization (BU) of the system. The proposed CAC scheme is analyzed by Markov Chain model and performance evaluation is made in comparison with fixed step size degradation. Results show that the proposed adaptive CAC scheme has excellent BU under stressed network condition. Also the long term average revenue is calculated for different service flows and for the overall system to see the efficiency of the adaptive CAC scheme.  相似文献

For various advantages including better utilization of radio spectrum (through frequency reuse), lower mobile transmit power requirements, and smaller and cheaper base station equipment, future wireless mobile multimedia networks are likely to adopt micro/picocellular architectures. A consequence of using small cell sizes is the increased rate of call handoffs as mobiles move between cells during the holding times of calls. In a network supporting multimedia services, the increased rate of call handoffs not only increases the signaling load on the network, but makes it very difficult for the network to guarantee the quality of service (QoS) promised to a call at setup or admission time. This paper describes an adaptive QoS handoff priority scheme which reduces the probability of call handoff failures in a mobile multimedia network with a micro/picocellular architecture. The scheme exploits the ability of most multimedia traffic types to adapt and trade off QoS with changes in the amount of bandwidth used. In this way, calls can trade QoS received for fewer handoff failures. The call level and packet level performance of the handoff scheme are studied analytically for a homogeneous network supporting a mix of wide-band and narrow-band calls. Comparisons are made to the performance of the nonpriority handoff scheme and the well-known guard-channel handoff scheme  相似文献

The huge commercial success of mobile telephony, the phenomenal growth of Internet users, the popularity of IP-based multimedia applications are the major driving forces behind third-generation (3G), ongoing Byond 3G (B3G), and forth-genertion (4G) evolution. 3G brought wired applications, both data and multimedia, into wireless environments. It operates on IP-based infrastructures to provide wider service access capability. To support and satisfy QoS (Quality of Service) of diverse IP-based multimedia applications, traffic management, such as Connection Admission Control (CAC) and resource allocation, becomes essential. CAC and resource allocation are computationally complex when combined with QoS guarantee for traffic with different characteristics. However, CAC and resource allocation are real-time traffic control procedures. Hence, processing load should be minimized to reduce delay. At the same time, network resources should be utilized efficiently to accommodate more users. However, reducing processing load and obtaining high resource utilization efficiency has been considered to be contradictory matter. In addition, CAC and resource allocation schemes which consider multiple QoS criteria – loss and delay – simultaneously have not been adequately studied. Simultaneous QoS consideration is important to satisfy stringent and diverse QoS requirements of multimedia traffic. In this paper, we propose a nobel effective bandwidth/buffer calculation method based on a virtual channel/buffer analysis scheme. We show that our method can achieve high resource utilization efficiency with reduced processing load. Moreover, we show that our scheme allows for simultaneous consideration of multiple QoS criteria, loss and delay.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose the reservation type call admission control (CAC) scheme to resolve the intercell unbalanced traffic problem. Differently from a conventional CAC scheme where the system resource is fully allocated to the local users in the home cell, the proposed CAC scheme reserves a small portion of the system resource for new calls occurring in the neighboring cells instead of fully allowing the local users in the home cell to occupy the system resource. As a result, the proposed CAC scheme improves the overall call blocking probability when the traffic is nonuniformly distributed among cells. More specifically, the proposed CAC scheme improves the overall call blocking probability by 15% when one cell has 67% more traffic than its surrounding cells.  相似文献
