The top-blow injection technique of a gas–solid mixture through a circular lance is used in the Mitsubishi Continuous Smelting
Process. One of the inherent problems associated with this injection is the severe erosion of the hearth refractory below
the lances. A new configuration of the lance to form an annular gas–solid jet rather than a circular jet was designed in the
laboratory scale. With this new configuration, solid particles leave the lance at a much lower velocity than the gas, and
the penetration behavior of the jet is significantly different than with the circular lance in which the solid particles leave
the lance at the same high velocity as the gas. The results of cold model tests using an air-sand jet issuing from a circular
lance and an annular lance into a water bath showed that the penetration of the annular jet is much less sensitive to the
variations in particle feed rate as well as gas velocity than that of the circular jet. Correlation equations for the penetration
depth for both circular and annular jets show agreement among the experimentally obtained values. 相似文献

Classically, in open-channel networks, the flow is numerically approximated by the one-dimensional Saint Venant equations coupled with a junction model. In this study, a comparison between the one-dimensional (1D) and two-dimensional (2D) numerical simulations of subcritical flow in open-channel networks is presented and completely described allowing for a full comprehension of the modeling of water flow. For the 1D, the mathematical model used is the 1D Saint Venant equations to find the solution in branches. For junction, various models based on momentum or energy conservation have been developed to relate the flow variables at the junction. These models are of empirical nature due to certain parameters given by experimental results and moreover they often present a reduced field of validity. In contrast, for the 2D simulation, the junction is discretized into triangular cells and we simply apply the 2D Saint Venant equations, which are solved by a second-order finite-volume method. In order to give an answer to the question of luxury or necessity of the 2D approach, the 1D and 2D numerical results for steady flow are compared to existing experimental data. 相似文献

With this new configuration, the solid particles fed through the center tube leave the lance at a much lower velocity than the gas, and the penetration behavior of the jet is significantly different from that with a circular lance where the solid particles leave the lance at the same high velocity as the gas. In previous cold-model investigations in this laboratory, the effects of the gas velocity, particle feed rate, lance height of the annular lance, and the cross-sectional area of the gas jet were studied and compared with the circular lance. This study examined the effect of the density and size of the solid particles on the penetration behavior of the annular gas?Csolid jet, which yielded some unexpected results. The variation in the penetration depth with the density of the solid particles at the same mass feed rate was opposite for the circular lance and the annular lance. In the case of the circular lance, the penetration depth became shallower as the density of the solid particles increased; on the contrary, for the annular lance, the penetration depth became deeper with the increasing density of particles. However, at the same volumetric feed rate of the particles, the density effect was small for the circular lance, but for the annular lance, the jets with higher density particles penetrated more deeply. The variation in the penetration depth with the particle diameter was also different for the circular and the annular lances. With the circular lance, the penetration depth became deeper as the particle size decreased for all the feed rates, but with the annular lance, the effect of the particle size was small. The overall results including the previous work indicated that the penetration behavior of an annular jet is much less sensitive to the variations in operating variables than that of a circular jet. Correlation equations for the penetration depth that show good agreements with the measured values have been developed. 相似文献

Great strides have been made in creating and testing evidence-based practices (EBPs). However, without adequate dissemination and implementation in clinical settings, this progress is of limited value. This article describes the implementation of an EBP (e.g., cognitive–behavioral therapy for depression and anxiety) in a large-group practice mental health services delivery system, focusing on both the role of psychologists and on the training model developed for implementation. The experience in implementation of an EBP is reviewed, with an emphasis on the role and direction psychologists might take in engaging and developing EBP training programs for other mental health services delivery systems. A polymorphism in the promoter of the UDP-glucuronosyltransferase 1 (UGT1A1) gene has been shown to cause Gilbert syndrome, a benign form of unconjugated bilirubinemia. Promoters containing seven thymine adenine (ta) repeats have been found to be less active than the wild-type six repeats, and the serum bilirubin levels of persons homozygous or even heterozygous for seven repeats have been found to be higher than those with the wild-type six repeats. We have now examined the genotypes in persons of Asian, African, and Caucasian ancestry. Although within the Caucasian ethnic group there is a strong correlation between promoter repeat number and bilirubin level, between ethnic groups we found that this relationship to be inverse. Among people of African ancestry there are, in addition to those with six and seven repeats, also persons who have five or eight repeats. Using a reporter gene we show that there is an inverse relationship between the number of ta repeats and the activity of the promoter through the range of 5-8 ta repeats. An incidental finding was a polymorphism at nucleotide -106, tightly linked to the (ta)5 haplotype. Serum bilirubin levels are influenced by many factors, both genetic and environmental. We suggest that the unstable UGT1A1 polymorphism may serve to "fine-tune" the plasma bilirubin level within population groups, maintaining it at a high enough level to provide protection against oxidative damage, but at a level that is sufficiently low to prevent kernicterus in infants. 相似文献

Objective: To evaluate the effects of a brief group cognitive–behavioral (CB) depression prevention program for high-risk adolescents with elevated depressive symptoms at 1- and 2-year follow-up. Method: In this indicated prevention trial, 341 at-risk youths were randomized to a group CB intervention, group supportive expressive intervention, CB bibliotherapy, or educational brochure control condition. Results: Significantly greater reductions in depressive symptoms were shown by group CB participants relative to brochure control participants by 1-year follow-up and bibliotherapy participants by 1- and 2-year follow-up but not relative to supportive expressive participants. Supportive expressive participants showed greater symptom reduction than CB bibliotherapy participants did at 2-year follow-up. Risk for onset of major or minor depression over the 2-year follow-up was significantly lower for group CB participants (14%; odds ratio = 2.2) and CB bibliotherapy participants (3%; odds ratio = 8.1) than for brochure controls (23%). Conclusions: Results indicate that this group CB intervention reduces initial symptoms and risk for future depressive episodes, although both supportive expressive therapy and CB bibliotherapy also produce intervention effects that persist long term. Several observations suggest that delayed neuronal death in ischaemia, epilepsy and other brain disorders includes an apoptotic component, involving programmed cell death (PCD). PCD is hypothesized to result, in part, from aberrant control of the cell cycle. Because they are instrumental in mitosis, cyclins D are key markers to evaluate whether neurons indeed progress into the cell cycle in situations of pathology. Therefore, we investigated in rat brains, the expression of cyclins D in the delayed neuronal death that occurs following transient global ischaemia and kainate-induced seizures. Following a four-vessel occlusion insult, quantitative in situ hybridization revealed a highly significant and persistent 100% increase of cyclin D1 mRNA in the vulnerable pyramidal neurons of the CA1 hippocampal region. Ischaemia also induced a smaller and transient cyclin D1 mRNA increase in the resistant CA3 area and dentate gyrus. In contrast, the cyclin D2 and D3 mRNAs, expressed constitutively in the adult rat hippocampus, were not upregulated. Following kainate-induced seizures, cyclin D1 mRNA was induced in the vulnerable CA3 region, and to a lesser extent, in non-vulnerable regions. Cyclin D1 immunohistochemistry revealed increased protein levels in the cytoplasm and nucleus of neurons commited to die after ischaemia. Double labelling experiments indicate that cyclin D1 is also expressed in reactive astrocytes but not in microglial cells. Finally, we report that in neurons, cyclin D1 expression peaks before nuclear condensation and the appearance of DNA fragmentation. We propose that cyclin D1, when expressed at high levels in lesioned neurons, may act as a modulator of apoptosis. 相似文献
