This paper represent an integrated implementation to shorten the product development cycle. The developed system uses machine vision techniques to automate the creation of CAD models for existing parts of prototypes. It extracts the manufacturing features based on the created CAD database and the tolerances that are to be added to the created CAD dabatase for CAD/CAM practice and concurrent analysis. The geometric features are organized in a database which can be imported to an automated process planning and cost estimation system. This integrated implementation is capable of providing manufacturing feedback during the product development stage. This paper outlines the development of the vision system, the creation of the CAD model, and the design of the database.  相似文献

Traditionally, group technology has dealt primarily with batch-type manufacturing which is engaged with small lot sizes and a variety of products. Recently, however, due to the development and implementation of computer- integrated manufacturing, group technology has been recognized as an essential element of the foundation for the successful development and implementation of computer-integrated manufacturing through the application of the part-family concept and also a common database for CAD/CAM integration. The optimum design and effective operation of a fully automated manufacturing cell system and/ or factory systems for factories of the future require a careful analysis of all the requirements which the system must satisfy under a group technology environment.  相似文献

A major requirement of database systems in engineering design and manufacturing applications is support for storage and maintenance of complex objects. Frame based systems are capable of modeling complex objects. However, many of these systems are implemented in main memory. As the number of objects to be stored far exceeds the capacity of the main memory of a computer, such an implementation is often unusable. Therefore, new ways to model and manipulate large manufacturing databases are needed. In this paper we present an implementation of a frame based system on top of the POSTGRES extensible database system. Such an implementation combines the advantages of database management and frame based systems and allows for the development of large manufacturing database applications with minimal effort.  相似文献

An extensible conceptual model for recording design decisions and other supporting information is described along with the tool shell OSC in which it is embedded. The OSC shell consists of a design database and a family of query, manipulation, and extension facilities. The design database maintains a record of the design process. The extension facilities can be used to enrich the design database scheme incrementally and create new query or manipulation facilities. The core model provides a base language for describing the design process. Extension facilities augment this basis with more powerful, customized facilities. The implementation of the OSC shell using ESSAIM, an expert-system shell based on Smalltalk, is discussed  相似文献

Design and implementation of holonic manufacturing control systems for the real industrial applications require risky, careful decisions to ensure that the manufacturing system will successfully satisfy the demands of an ever-changing market. This paper suggests a virtual reality (VR)-based methodology for enhancing the design and implementation process of holonic control systems in manufacturing practice. The major focus has been given to the implementation of holonic control into the small to medium size manufacturing enterprises (SMEs).  相似文献

A smart manufacturing system (SMS) is a multi-field physical system with complex couplings among various components. Usually, designers in various fields can only design subsystems of an SMS based on the limited cognition of dynamics. Conducting SMS designs concurrently and developing a unified model to effectively imitate every interaction and behavior of manufacturing processes are challenging. As an emerging technology, digital twins can achieve semi-physical simulations to reduce the vast time and cost of physical commissioning/reconfiguration by the early detection of design errors/flaws of the SMS. However, the development of the digital twins concept in the SMS design remains vague. An innovative Function-Structure-Behavior-Control-Intelligence-Performance (FSBCIP) framework is proposed to review how digital twins technologies are integrated into and promote the SMS design based on a literature search in the Web of Science database. The definitions, frameworks, major design steps, new blueprint models, key enabling technologies, design cases, and research directions of digital twins-based SMS design are presented in this survey. It is expected that this survey will shed new light on urgent industrial concerns in developing new SMSs in the Industry 4.0 era.  相似文献

The philosophy of group technology (GT) is an important concept in the design of flexible manufacturing systems and manufacturing cells. Group technology is a manufacturing philosophy that identifies similar parts and groups them into families. Beside assigning unique codes to these parts, group technology developers intend to take advantage of part similarities during design and manufacturing processes. GT is not the answer to all manufacturing problems, but it is a good management technique with which to standardize efforts and eliminate duplication. Group technology classifies parts by assigning them to different families based on their similarities in: (1) design attributes (physical shape and size), and/or (2) manufacturing attributes (processing sequence). The manufacturing industry today is process focused; departments and sub units are no longer independent but are interdependent. If the product development process is to be optimized, engineering and manufacturing cannot remain independent any more: they must be coordinated. Each sub-system is a critical component within an integrated manufacturing framework. The coding and classification system is the basis of CAPP and the functioning and reliability of CAPP depends on the robustness of the coding system. The proposed coding system is considered superior to the previously proposed coding systems, in that it has the capability to migrate into multiple manufacturing environments. This article presents the design of a coding and classification system and the supporting database for manufacturing processes based on both design and manufacturing attributes of parts. An interface with the spreadsheet will calculate the machine operation costs for various processes. This menu-driven interactive package is implemented using dBASE-IV. Part Family formation is achieved using a KAMCELL package developed in TURBO Pascal.  相似文献

Focuses on the development of a methodology within a software environment for automating the rule-based implementation of specifications of integrated manufacturing information systems. The specifications are initially formulated in a natural language and subsequently represented in terms of a graphical representation by the system designer. A new graphical representation tool is based on updated Petri nets (UPN) that we have developed as a specialized version of colored Petri nets. The rule-based implementation approach utilizes the similarity of features between UPN and the general rule specification language used for the implementation. The automation of the translation of UPN to the rule specification language is expected to considerably reduce the life-cycle for design and implementation of the system. The application presented deals with the control and management of information flow between the computer-aided design, process planning, manufacturing resource planning and shop floor control databases. This provides an integrated information framework for computer integrated manufacturing systems  相似文献

A decision support system for material and manufacturing process selection   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
The material and manufacturing process selection problem is a multi-attribute decision-making problem. These decisions are made during the preliminary design stages in an environment characterized by imprecise and uncertain requirements, parameters, and relationships. Material and process selection decisions must occur before design for manufacturing can begin. This paper describes a prototype material and manufacturing process selection system called MAMPS that integrates a formal multi-attribute decision model with a relational database. The decision model enables the representation of the designer's preferences over the decision factors. A compatibility rating between the product profile requirements and the alternatives stored in the database for each decision criteria is generated using possibility theory. The vector of compatibility ratings are aggregated into a single rating of that alternative's compatibility. A ranked set of compatible material and manufacturing process alternatives is output by the system. This approach has advantages over existing systems that either do not have a decision module or are not integrated with a database.  相似文献

A multi-agent architecture for control of AGV systems   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Agent is an autonomous, computational entity that can be viewed as perceiving its environment and acting upon it. Agents are event-driven objects that can be integrated in automated manufacturing environments to control certain tasks. In this paper a set of agents (a multi-agent system) is introduced to control an automated manufacturing environment. The architecture includes functions at the manufacturing cell level, materials handling and transport level, and factory scheduling level. Communication between these agents is accomplished by using a relational database (blackboard system). The relational database also integrates the requirements of a manufacturing execution system within the multi-agent task structure, which is unique to this architecture. Manufacturing cell and scheduling agents have been previously described in the literature. Here we focus our attention on the functions of the agents of the transport system, which is composed of a set of AGVs.  相似文献

Abstract

This article investigates the integration of computer-aided design, manufacturing, and testing for gears using a distributed intelligence system. The integration architecture, principles, and implementation for computer integrated manufacturing systems (CIMS) are presented. An integrated intelligent system is developed, which has a parallel hierarchical structure in general and a meta-system as its kernel to manage and control the selection, communication, coordination, and operation of the subsystem. The functions and configuration of the meta-system are discussed in detail. A gear integrated manufacturing system (GIMS) is implemented to demonstrate the feasibility and capability of the integrated intelligent system.  相似文献

Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are modern tools for both the designer and manufacturing engineer. These two tools, however, are not usually integrated into one system. In this study, an effort has been made to connect design and manufacturing by interfacing them into a unified software system. Through this demonstrative CAD/CAM package, the designer interacts with a graphics terminal to enter hole design details; these, in turn, are sent to a generative automatic process planning routing which defines appropriate process plans. In addition, a cost estimate is given which provides the designer with a measure of the economic effectiveness of his design. In the future, it will be possible to interface such systems with part programming routines to obtain explicit machine control information. Such a system represents a significant step toward making totally automated manufacturing a reality.  相似文献

In this paper, findings from a research project on work-psychological concepts for the design of computer-aided integrated manufacturing systems are presented. The work-psychological point of view is that concepts which focus not only on technical aspects, but also on the design of work organization and the use and development of skills and qualifications not only contribute to humane work conditions but are also associated with economics efficiency. Results gained from 60 small and medium size Swiss companies in the capital-goods industry show that very few companies have holistic manufacturing structures in terms of decentralization, functional integration, work group autonomy and complete and challenging tasks. Furthermore, skills and qualifications are not made use of to their fullest extent in most companies. Although technical support in terms of implementation of computer-aided manufacturing systems and technical integration is noticeably high, economic efficiency could not be exclusively attributed to the implementation of technical systems. The attainment of efficiency goals associated with the implementation of technical systems turned out to be higher in companies pursuing a holistic approach to the design of computer-aided manufacturing systems encompassing technical aspects, organizational design and use and development of skills and qualifications.

Relevance to industry

In many companies, the implementation and utilization of computer-aided manufacturing systems is considered an appropriate means for meeting increased market demand. Yet, a growing body of empirical findings indicates that computer-aided manufacturing systems per se will not guarantee that companies perform successfully. Data gained from case studies indicate that a comprehensive approach directed at the joint consideration and optimization of technical systems, organizational design and qualifications will contribute to a successful implementation of computer-aided manufacturing systems in terms of humane working conditions and economic efficiency. The data can be used for the work-psychologically founded design of computer-aided integrated manufacturing systems.  相似文献

Individualized manufacturing implies high flexibility of both the hardware and software of the production lines based on a fast physical and logical system (de)commissioning. This paper proposes an open architecture production line (OAPL) design together with a digital twins-based flexible operating approach for individualized manufacturing. Firstly, an OAPL is designed and implemented with physical reconfigurability by orchestrating different open architectural platforms together with open architecture machine tools (OAMTs). Secondly, an open architectural style modeling and configuration method is presented to enable the software reconfigurability of the controls of the OAPL. Thirdly, a digital twin-based online process emulating and multi-physics simulation is integrated to aid the comprehensive characterizing of the operation status of the OAPL. Based on the system reconfigurability and digital twins system, a triple-layer Learning-Optimization-Reacting approach together with an ensemble algorithm for flexible operating of the OAPL is proposed. The digital twins are formed with the ability to flexibly operate the OAPL for catering to different individualized requirements. A demonstrative implementation of a stepping-motor assembly OAPL is presented finally.  相似文献

Information integration is vital for keeping manufacturing operations competitive. A case study approach has been adopted to better understand the role of informatio in integrated manufacturing. Information is now considered a corporate asset. The creation, processing, movement and security of information is therefore as important as the products/services of an enterprise. The case studies have helped in identifying the requirements and issues involved in developing an information system and supporting software framework for a manufacturing enterprise. This paper deseribes a case study dealing with the integrated manufacture of optical fiber products. A phased development and implementation approach was adopted where a small, manageable slice of the system is considered for the case study followed by functional modeling (IDEFO) and data flow modeling (data flow diagrams). This identifies the pieces of information of interest. The information relationships are modeled using extended entity relationship (EER) diagrams which are then mapped to a relational model. The relational tables thus obtained were implemented on a commercial Database Management System (DBMS). The functional constraints and application interfaces were then built using Structured Query Languages (SQL) and commercial application interface tools. Subsequent sections describe the functional models, data flow diagrams (DFDs), EER diagrams, relational database design and user/application interfaces developed for the system. Implementation experiences and observations are discussed along with the applications of the implemented system. The case study has helped in developing a preliminary data model (i.e., a model about data by which a reasonable interpretation of the data can be obtained) for material handling (MH) functions.  相似文献

With the advent of the new challenge to design a more lean and responsive computer-integrated manufacturing system, firms have been striving to achieve a coherent interaction between technology, organisation, and people to meet this challenge. This paper describes an integrated approach developed for supporting management in addressing technology, organisation, and people at the earliest stages of manufacturing automation decision-making. The approach uses both the quality function deployment (QFD) technique and the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) technique. The principal concepts of both applications are merged together to form a decision tool; QFD in its ability to identify the most suitable manufacturing automation alternative and FMEA in its ability to identify the associated risk with that option to be addressed in the manufacturing system design and implementation phases. In addition, this paper presents the results of a practical evaluation conducted in industry.  相似文献

A product database for a design and manufacturing enterprise serves as a repository for the data needed to manufacture a product. This paper discusses how an object-oriented persistent object manager named ROSE, under development at Rensselaer, has been used in the Rensselaer CIM program to develop a STEP/PDES-compliant product database for its research test bed. In so doing, it provides an overview of the requirements for a product database system in an integrated design and manufacturing facility, and it discusses how the chosen system meets these requirements.  相似文献

The function of process planning in a manufacturing facility is to identify the processes and the machines required to convert a design into its final form. Majority of the process plans are still made manually. The degree of the process plan detail varies with the shop environment. A feature-based process planning system which interacts with the SDRC I-DEAS solid modeling software is presented. The system operates under the UNIX environment. A relational database model which incorporates manufacturing details including the operation selection, machine selection, tool selection, fixture selection, etc. was developed and implemented. This relational database was structured using Microsoft SQL SERVER for the PC multi-user environment. This database is part of an ongoing research project on automated process planning and scheduling and primarily focuses on prismatic parts. The developed routines generate the Overall Removable Volume (ORV) graphically by comparing the desirable design to the blank work piece. The routines then decompose the ORV into various General Manufacturing Features (GMF) based on concave edges. The recognition routine captures geometrical and topological information and identifies the shape of each GMF. An expert system (using CLIPS expert system shell) analyzes the GMFs and determines appropriate operation(s) for the designed part. The developed expert system is capable of recommending the suitable machines, tools, fixtures, etc.  相似文献
