The effectiveness of the Fenton's reagent (H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+)) in the treatment of carpet dyeing wastewater was investigated under different operational conditions, namely, H(2)O(2) and FeSO(4) concentrations, initial pH and temperature. Up to 95% COD removal efficiency was attained using 5.5 g/l FeSO(4) and 385 g/l H(2)O(2) at a pH of 3, temperature of 50 degrees C. The H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+) ratio (g/g) was found to be between 95 and 290 for maximum COD removal. It was noteworthy that, keeping H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+) ratio constant within the range of 95-290, it became possible to decrease FeSO(4) concentration to 1.1 g/l and H(2)O(2) concentration to 96.3 g/l, still achieving nearly the same COD removal efficiency. The relative efficiencies of Fenton's oxidation and coagulation stages revealed that Fenton's coagulation removed organic compounds which were not removed by Fenton's oxidation, indicating that the Fenton's coagulation acted as a polishing step.  相似文献

The biodegradability of surfactants is a frequent and complex issue arising both at domestic as well as industrial treatment facilities. In the present experimental study, the integrated photochemical (H2O2/UV-C) and biochemical (activated sludge) treatment of a commercial grade nonionic/anionic textile surfactant formulation was investigated. Photochemical baseline experiments have shown that once the initial pH and H2O2 dose were optimized, practically complete COD removal (CODo = 500 ± 30 mg L−1) could be achieved. Once the COD was elevated to values being typical for the textile fabric preparation stage, treatment efficiency was seriously retarded provided that the photochemical treatment conditions remained constant. Moreover, a definite relationship existed between H2O2 consumption and COD removal for H2O2/UV-C advanced oxidation of the textile surfactant. In the second part of the study, COD abatement was modeled for the biodegradation of untreated and photochemically pretreated textile surfactant formulation according to their COD fractions. Results have indicated that the readily biodegradable and rapidly hydrolysable COD fractions of the textile surfactant solution could be appreciably increased upon exposure to an optimum H2O2 concentration (60 mM; i.e. 2.1 g H2O2 (g CODo)−1) and extended UV-C irradiation times (i.e. 90 and 120 min).  相似文献

The zero-valent iron (ZVI) reduction succeeds for decolorization, while UV/H(2)O(2) oxidation process results into mineralization, so that this study proposed an integrated technique by reduction coupling with oxidation process in order to acquire simultaneously complete both decolorization and mineralization of C.I. Acid Black 24. From the experimental data, the zero-valent iron addition alone can decolorize the dye wastewater yet it demanded longer time than ZVI coupled with UV/H(2)O(2) processes (Red-Ox). Moreover, it resulted into only about 30% removal of the total organic carbon (TOC), which was capable to be effectively mineralized by UV/H(2)O(2) process. The proposed sequential ZVI-UV/H(2)O(2) integration system cannot only effectively remove color and TOC in AB 24 wastewater simultaneously but also save irradiation power and time demand. Furthermore, the decolorization rate constants were about 3.77-4.0 times magnitude comparing with that by UV/H(2)O(2) process alone.  相似文献

A series of titanium dioxide (TiO(2)/Ti) film electrodes were prepared from titanium (Ti) metal mesh by an improved anodic oxidation process and were further modified by photochemically depositing gold (Au) on the TiO(2) film surface as Au-TiO(2)/Ti film electrodes. The morphological characteristics, crystal structure and photoelectroreactivity of both the TiO(2)/Ti and Au-TiO(2)/Ti electrodes were studied. The experiments confirmed that the gold modification of TiO(2) film could enhance the efficiency of e(-)/h(+) separation on the TiO(2) conduction band and resulted in the higher photocatalytic (PC) and photoelectrocatalytic (PEC) activity under UV or visible illumination. To further enhance the TiO(2) PEC reaction, a reticulated vitreous carbon (RVC) electrode was applied in the same reaction system as the cathode to electrically generate H(2)O(2) in the aqueous solution. The experiments demonstrated that such a H(2)O(2)-assisted TiO(2) PEC reaction system could achieve a much better performance of BPA degradation in aqueous solution due to an interactive effect among TiO(2), Au, and H(2)O(2). It may have good potential for application in water and wastewater treatment in the future.  相似文献

The decolorization of C.I. Acid Red 27 (AR27), a monoazo anionic dye, was studied in the ultraviolet radiation (UV) alone and UV plus hydrogen peroxide (UV/H(2)O(2)) processes. The experimental results indicated that the kinetics of both oxidation processes fit well by pseudo-first order kinetics. The reaction rate was sensitive to the operational parameters and increased with increasing H(2)O(2) concentration and light intensity. The reaction orders of H(2)O(2) concentration and light intensity in both processes were obtained with linear regression method. A regression model was developed for pseudo-first order rate constant (k(ap,UV/H(2)O(2))) as a function of the Cconcentration and UV light intensity. (k(ap,UV/H(2)O(2)))=(2 x 10(-4)I(0.75)(0) + k(3)I(1.38)(0)[H(2)O(2)](n)(0))phi(AR27). As a result of two opposing effects of H(2)O(2) concentration at low and high concentrations, n has a value of 0.49 and -0.39 and k(3) has a value of 3 x 10(-4) and 0.1 for the regions of 0 mg l(-1) < [H(2)O(2)](0) < 650 mg l(-1) and 650 mg l(-1) < [H(2)O(2)](0) < 1500 mg l(-1)1, respectively. PhiAR27 is the initial dye concentration correlation index for developing of model for different initial concentrations of AR27. This rate expression can be used for predicting k(ap,UV/H(2)O(2) at different conditions in UV alone and UV/H2O2 processes. The results show that UV alone cannot be an efficient method for decolorization of AR27 in comparison with UV/H(2)O(2) process, therefore the first term of the model can be neglected.  相似文献

Rapid decolourization of Methyl Orange by Fenton-like mesoporous Fe(2)O(3)-SiO(2) catalyst has been reported. The effect of various parameters such as initial pH, initial H(2)O(2) concentration, Fe content in the catalyst and initial dye concentration on decolourization process were studied. The results show that 20mg of mesoporous Fe(2)O(3)/SiO(2) composite (with Si/Fe=10) was sufficient to decolourize 0.6 mg/ml of Methyl Orange in presence of 2 ml of H(2)O(2) at an initial pH of 2.93 within 20 min. The pH range for effective decolourization (≥90%) was found to be 1-3. Leaching tests indicated that the activity of the catalyst was almost unaffected up to three consecutive cycles although ≤0.2 ppm of Fe ion was leached into treated water in each run.  相似文献

The photooxidative degradation of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) was studied in the UV/H2O2 process. The effects of applied H2O2 dose, initial 4-NP concentration and UV light intensity have been studied. Degradation was complete in 13 min and follows apparent first-order kinetics. The removal efficiency of 4-NP depends on the operational parameters and increases as the initial concentration of H2O2 and light intensity are increased but it decreases when the initial concentration of 4-NP is increased. From HPLC analysis, major intermediate products were hydroxyl derivatives of 4-NP as a result of photooxidative hydroxylation.  相似文献

Photochemical degradation of diethyl phthalate with UV/H2O2   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The decomposition of diethyl phthalate (DEP) in water using UV-H2O2 process was investigated in this paper. DEP cannot be effectively removed by UV radiation and H2O2 oxidation alone, while UV-H2O2 combination process proved to be effective and could degrade this compound completely. With initial concentration about 1.0mg/L, more than 98.6% of DEP can be removed at time of 60 min under intensity of UV radiation of 133.9 microW/cm2 and H2O2 dosage of 20mg/L. The effects of applied H2O2 dose, UV radiation intensity, water temperature and initial concentration of DEP on the degradation of DEP have been examined in this study. Degradation mechanisms of DEP with hydroxyl radicals oxidation also have been discussed. Removal rate of DEP was sensitive to the operational parameters. A simple kinetic model is proposed which confirms to pseudo-first order reaction. There is a linear relationship between rate constant k and UV intensity and H2O2 concentration.  相似文献

The electrochemical oxidation of anionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate, DBS) contained in simulated wastewater treated by three-dimensional electrode system with combined modified kaolin served as packed bed particle electrodes and Ti/Co/SnO(2)-Sb(2)O(3) anode was studied, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal of pollutants in the solutions was also investigated. The results showed that the three-dimensional electrodes in combined process could effectively decompose anionic surfactants. The COD removal efficiency can reach 86%, much higher than that of Ti/Co/SnO(2)-Sb(2)O(3) electrodes used singly or modified kaolin employed singly (graphite as anode and cathode) on the same condition of pH 3 and 38.1 mA/cm(2) current density. The current efficiency and kinetic constant were calculated and energy consumption was studied. At the same time the influence of pH and current density on COD removal efficiency with combined three-dimensional electrodes was also investigated, respectively. The optimal initial pH value of degradation is 3 (acid condition), and a minor COD removal increase follows higher current density.  相似文献

A new catalytic oxidation of anionic surfactants by electrochemistry method was designed and used to investigate the removal of anionic surfactant from simulated wastewater. Synergetic effect on COD removal was studied when integrating the electrochemical reactor, using porous graphite as anode and cathode, with the effective CuO-Co2O3-PO4(3-) modified kaolin catalyst in a single undivided cell. The result showed that this combined process could effectively remove anionic surfactant. Its COD removal efficiency was much higher than those individual processes and could reach up to 90% in 60 min. The operating parameters such as initial pH, cell voltage, and current intensity were also investigated. Possible theory for COD removal was also proposed to predict the role of modified kaolin, electro-catalysis and oxidation in the combined process. The pollutants in wastewater could be decreased by the high reactive OH* that produced on the surface of catalyst by the decomposition of electrochemical generated H2O2. The result indicates that the catalytic oxidation by electrochemistry method is a promising wastewater treatment technique.  相似文献

Advanced oxidation processes including UV, UV/H(2)O(2), Fenton reaction (Fe(II)/H(2)O(2)) and photo-Fenton process (Fe(II)/H(2)O(2)/UV) for the treatment of paper mill wastewater will be investigated. A comparison among these techniques is undertaken with respect to the decrease of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and total suspended solids (TSS) and the evolution of chloride ions. Optimum operating conditions for each process under study revealed the effect of the initial amounts of Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide. Of the tested processes, photo-Fenton process was found to be the fastest one with respect to COD and TSS reduction of the wastewater within 45 min reaction time under low amounts of Fe(II) and hydrogen peroxide of 0.5 and 1.5mg/L, respectively, and amounted to 79.6% and 96.6% COD and TSS removal. The initial biodegradability of the organic matter present in the effluent, estimated as the BOD(5)/COD, was low 0.21. When the effluent was submitted to the different types of AOPs used in this study, the biodegradability increases significantly. Within 45 min of reaction time, the photo-Fenton process appears as the most efficient process in the enhancement of the biodegradability of the organic matter in the effluent and the BOD(5)/COD ratio increased from 0.21 to 0.7.  相似文献

The examination of the effectiveness of the chemical oxidation using Fenton's reagent (H(2)O(2)/Fe(2+)) for the reduction of the organic content of wastewater generated from a textile industry has been studied. The experimental results indicate that the oxidation process leads to a reduction in the chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration up to 45%. Moreover, the reduction is reasonably fast at the first stages of the process, since the COD concentration is decreased up to 45% within four hours and further treatment time does not add up to the overall decrease in the COD concentration (48% reduction within six hours). The maximum color removal achieved was 71.5%. In addition, the alterations observed in the organic matter during the development of the process, as indicated by the ratios of COD/TOC and BOD/COD and the oxidation state, show that a great part of the organic substances, which are not completely mineralized, are subjected to structural changes to intermediate organic by-products.  相似文献

The integrated chemical-biological degradation combining advanced oxidation by UV/H(2)O(2) followed by aerobic biodegradation was used to degrade C.I. Reactive Azo Red 195A, commonly used in the textile industry in Australia. An experimental design based on the response surface method was applied to evaluate the interactive effects of influencing factors (UV irradiation time, initial hydrogen peroxide dosage and recirculation ratio of the system) on decolourisation efficiency and optimizing the operating conditions of the treatment process. The effects were determined by the measurement of dye concentration and soluble chemical oxygen demand (S-COD). The results showed that the dye and S-COD removal were affected by all factors individually and interactively. Maximal colour degradation performance was predicted, and experimentally validated, with no recirculation, 30 min UV irradiation and 500 mgH(2)O(2)/L. The model predictions for colour removal, based on a three-factor/five-level Box-Wilson central composite design and the response surface method analysis, were found to be very close to additional experimental results obtained under near optimal conditions. This demonstrates the benefits of this approach in achieving good predictions while minimising the number of experiments required.  相似文献

The treated wastewater consists of refractory materials and high organic content of hydrolyzed peptone residues from pharmaceutical factory. The combination of electrocoagulation (EC) followed by heterogeneous photocatalysis (TiO(2)) conditions was maximized. The EC: iron cathode/anode (12.50 cmx2.50 cmx0.10 cm), current density 763Am(-2), 90min and initial pH 6.0. As EC consequence, the majority of the dissolved organic and suspended material was removed (about 91% and 86% of the turbidity and chemical oxygen demand (COD), respectively). After EC, refractory residues still remained in the effluent. The subsequent photocatalysis: UV/TiO(2)/H(2)O(2) (mercury lamps), pH 3.0, 4h irradiation, 0.25gL(-1) TiO(2) and 10mmolL(-1) H(2)O(2) shows high levels of inorganic and organic compounds eliminations. The obtained COD values: 1753mgL(-1) for the sample from the factory, 160mgL(-1) after EC and 50mgL(-1) after EC/photocatalyzed effluents pointed out that the combined treatment stresses this water purification.  相似文献

The H2O2/pyridine/Cu(II) advanced oxidation system was used to assess the efficiency of the treatment of a 1 g L−1 Terasil Red R dye solution. This system was found to be capable in reducing the concentration of chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the dye solution up to 90%, and achieving 99% in decolorization at the optimal concentration of 5.5 mM H2O2, 38 mM pyridine and 1.68 mM Cu(II). The final concentration of COD was recorded at 117 mg L−1 and color point at 320 PtCo. Full 24 factorial design and the response surface methodology using central composite design (CCD) were utilized in the screening and optimization of this study. Treatment efficiency was found to be pH independent. The amount of sludge generation was in the range of 100–175 mg L−1 and the sludge produced at the optimal concentration was 170 mg L−1.  相似文献

The effectiveness of advanced oxidation processes in a batch and a flow reactor was investigated for the remediation of hydrocarbon pollution in the groundwater underlying a petrochemical industrial site. The main organic contaminants present in the groundwater were MTBE, benzene, alkyl-benzenes and alkyl-naphthalenes. Experimental results with a batch reactor showed that for all the organic contaminants the removal efficiency order is UV/TiO2 approximately UV/H2O2>UV (medium-pressure) in a synthetic aqueous solution, compared to UV/H2O2>UV (medium-pressure)>UV/TiO2 for the real polluted groundwater. The much lower performance of UV/TiO2 with respect to UV/H2O2 was inferred to the matrix of the groundwater, i.e. the salt content, as well as the organic and particulate matter. In fact, it is likely that the salts and dissolved organic matter quench the superoxide anion O2(-) and hydroxyl radicals just formed at the surface of the TiO2 catalyst. MTBE was the hardest compound to remove with each of the investigated treatments. UV and UV/TiO2 treatments were not able to reach a residual concentration of 10 microg/L (set by Italian legislation) even after 180 min. As for the UV/H2O2 process, only the MTBE degradation rate resulted affected by the initial H2O2 concentration, while for other compounds a complete removal was obtained within 20 min even with the lowest H2O2 concentration used (0.13 g/L). Only after 120 min of treatment, with an initial H2O2 concentration of 0.13 g/L, did the residual MTBE concentration fall below the above reported maximum admissible concentration. Instead, by using an initial concentration of 2g/L a residual concentration lower than 5 microg/L was obtained after just 30 min of reaction. The UV/H2O2 process was also investigated with a flow reactor. Results showed that it was more efficient than the batch reactor for removing MTBE, in terms of reaction time and initial H2O2 concentration required. This is consistent with the higher power of the UV lamp and with the different geometry of the flow reactor, which has a much shorter optical path than the batch reactor. By-product characterisation was also performed showing that t-butyl-formate and low molecular weight organic acids are formed as intermediate and final by-products, respectively. Finally, a preliminary evaluation of the operational cost of the UV/H2O2 process showed a value of 1.7 euro/m3 under the optimised condition.  相似文献

This paper presents the study of the electrochemical oxidation of the pesticide atrazine at a Ti/Ru(0.3)Ti(0.7)O(2) dimensionally stable anodes (DSA). The effect of using different supporting electrolytes (NaCl, NaOH, NaNO(3), NaClO(4), H(2)SO(4) and Na(2)SO(4)) during the galvanostatic electrolysis of atrazine was investigated. It was observed that the removal of atrazine and total organic carbon (TOC) was only achieved at appreciable rates when NaCl was used as the supporting electrolyte, due to the oxidising species formed in this electrolyte (e.g. ClO(-)). Variation of the NaCl concentration demonstrated that, although only low concentrations of NaCl are necessary to result in the complete removal of atrazine in solution, TOC removal is almost linearly dependent on the quantity of NaCl in solution. Examination of the applied current density indicates that the efficiency of TOC removal reaches a maximum at 60 mA cm(-2). Testing of alternative electrode materials containing SnO(2) did not improve the efficiency of atrazine removal in Na(2)SO(4), but in NaCl a small increase was observed. Overall there appears to be no great advantage in using SnO(2)-containing electrodes over the Ti/Ru(0.3)Ti(0.7)O(2) electrode.  相似文献

The effect of different physicochemical treatments on the aerobic biodegradability of an industrial wastewater resulting from a cosmetic industry has been investigated. This industrial wastewater contains 11423 and 3148mgL(-1) of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and anionic surfactants, respectively. The concentration of COD and anionic surfactants were followed throughout the diverse physicochemical treatments and biodegradation experiments. Different pretreatments of this industrial wastewater using chemical flocculation process with lime and aluminium sulphate (alum), and also advanced oxidation process (electro-coagulation (Fe and Al) and electro-Fenton) led to important COD and anionic surfactants removals. The best results were obtained using electro-Fenton process, exceeding 98 and 80% of anionic surfactants and COD removals, respectively. The biological treatment by an isolated strain Citrobacter braakii of the surfactant wastewater, as well as the pretreated wastewater by the various physicochemical processes used in this study showed that the best results were obtained with electro-Fenton pretreated wastewater. The characterization of the treated surfactant wastewater by the integrated process (electro-coagulation or electro-Fenton)-biological showed that it respects Tunisian discharge standards.  相似文献

1,4-dioxane is a synthetic compound found in industrial effluent and subsequently contaminates water bodies due to its high solubility and high volatility. It is of concern due to its toxic and hazardous nature and has been listed as a class 2B carcinogen. This study involved optimisation of the photocatalytic and H(2)O(2)/UVC processes for 1,4-dioxane removal. Different photocatalysts and loadings were investigated for the degradation of low concentrations of 1,4-dioxane in water including a commercial P25, a synthesised magnetic photocatalyst and an immobilised sol-gel system. A commercial catalyst (Degussa P25) was the most efficient. A lifetime study of the sol-gel reactor showed that the coating was stable over the time period studied. The optimum H(2)O(2) concentration in the H(2)O(2)/UVC process was found to be 30ppm. The addition of H(2)O(2) to the photocatalytic process for 1,4-dioxane removal caused a decrease in rate for the commercial P25 photocatalyst and an increase in rate for the lab-made magnetic photocatalyst.  相似文献

The presence of Fe(3)O(4)-CoO/Al(2)O(3) can improve degradation efficiency significantly during the ozonation of the herbicide 2-(2,4-dichlorophenoxy) propionic acid (2,4-DP). The main factors affecting degradation efficiency, such as pH, the catalyst concentration and addition of the scavenger, were investigated. The kinetics of the catalytic ozonation are also discussed. The results indicate that two factors, the oxidation after adsorption of 2,4-DP and the oxidation of hydroxyl radicals (OH), lead to a great enhancement in ozonation efficiency during the catalytic ozonation of 2,4-DP in the presence of Fe(3)O(4)-CoO/Al(2)O(3), in which the oxidation of the OH plays an important role. Under controlled conditions, the apparent reaction rate constants for the degradation of 2,4-DP were determined to be 2.567 × 10(-4)s(-1) for O(3) and 1.840 × 10(-3)s(-1) for O(3)/Fe(3)O(4)-CoO/Al(2)O(3). The results from the analysis of the reaction kinetics using the relative method showed that O(3)/Fe(3)O(4)-CoO/Al(2)O(3) possessed a larger R(ct) (R(ct) is defined as the ratio of the ·OH exposure to the O(3) exposure, R(ct) = ∫C(t)(OH) dt/C(t)O(3)dt) than O(3), indicating that O(3)/Fe(3)O(4)-CoO/Al(2)O(3) produced more hydroxyl radicals.  相似文献
