A method and algorithm are developed for numerical calculation of the vibrations of a rotating circular membrane with a rigid central insert. The vibrations are caused by plane rotation of the rotation axis with a variable angular velocity. A system of differential equations is obtained to describe the motion of the membrane in relation to the stress-strain state caused by the rotation. Summary The flow pattern of the slosh motion of a homogeneous, nonviscous (inviscid) and incompressible fluid with a free surface, contained in a rigid circular canal, has been dealt with analytically and experimentally. The axis of the canal is perpendicular to the direction of gravity. Considered are transverse (lateral to axis) oscillations of the liquid. The shape of the free liquid surface is determined numerically by means of a simple procedure. Theoretically calculated streamlines (path lines) are found to be in good qualitative agreement with experimentally observed trajectories of small spheres, made of plastic material and immersed in the liquid. The plastic particles and the liquid (water with a solution of salt added) have the same density.  相似文献

Summary We consider a fourth-order boundary value problem associated with the small vibrations of a uniform flexible rod which is clamped at one end and rotates in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation. A significant feature is that the axis of rotation does not pass through the clamped end itself. For rapid rotation rates, the governing equation involves a small parameter and must be treated by singular perturbation techniques. A second parameter fixes the relative location of two turning points. For a range of this second parameter, consistent approximations to the characteristic equation are derived, and the limiting behavior of the eigenvalues is obtained.  相似文献

The linear stability theory is used to investigate analytically the effects of gravity on centrifugally driven convection in a rotating porous layer offset from the axis of rotation. The stability of a basic solution is analysed with respect to the onset of stationary and oscillatory convection. It is also demonstrated that the stationary mode is the critical mode of convection thereby resulting in the convection rolls being aligned parallel to the axis of rotation. Besides providing a non-motionless basic solution and dictating the direction of the wave number, gravity plays a passive role and does not affect the stability results.  相似文献

In view of the interesting possibilities of controlling surface tension-driven convection, anticipated in space experiments involving fluid interfaces, the problem of the stability of a thin horizontal fluid layer subjected to rotation about a vertical axis, when the thermal (or concentration) gradient is not uniform is examined by linear stability analysis. Attention is focussed on the situation where the critical Marangoni number is greater than that for the case of uniform thermal gradient and the convection is not, in general, maintained. The case of adiabatic boundary condition is examined because it brings out the effect of surface tension at the free surfaces and allows a simple application of the Galerkin technique, which gives useful results. Numerical results are obtained for special cases and some general conclusions about the destabilizing effects of various basic temperature profiles and the stabilizing effect of coriolis force are presented. The results indicate that the most destabilizing temperature gradient is one for which the temperature gradient is a step function of the depth. Increase in Taylor number and the inverted parabolic basic temperature profile suppress the onset of convection.  相似文献
