A microstrip‐fed conventional annular ring slot (ARS) antenna with linear polarization (LP) is initially studied. To generate two orthogonal degenerate modes for circular polarization (CP) radiations, two identical meandering perturbation slots (MPS) are symmetrically loaded into the ARS. By further incorporating a PIN diode switch across each MPS, the proposed antenna can switch between left‐hand CP (LHCP), right‐hand CP (RHCP), and LP. All three polarizations have shown good impedance bandwidth and broad CP bandwidth that can satisfy the wireless local area network (WLAN) 2.4‐GHz operating band (2400–2480 MHz). Furthermore, desirable gains of 1.8–2.0 dBi and 2.40–2.84 dBic are also exhibited at LP and LHCP/RHCP, respectively. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A circular disk patch antenna loaded with a hemi‐circular slot is initially proposed for achieving circular polarization (CP). To exhibit broad CP bandwidth that can cover the WLAN 2.4 GHz operating band, the patch antenna is fed by an L‐shaped probe. To further attain conical beam radiation with peak gain of ~8 dBic at ±30 degrees theta angle (θ), a 2 × 2 array type is proposed in this study, in which four circular disk patch array elements are arranged in a sequentially rotated fashion via a corporate feed network. Here, desirable 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and 10‐dB impedance bandwidth of ~5% and 21% were measured. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE 24:223–228, 2014.  相似文献

A new meandered‐line inductor fed wideband circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with partial ground plane has been developed in this work. Meandered‐line inductor feed and partial ground plane are used for generation of orthogonal modes, hence circular polarization (CP) in DRA. By controlling the length of meandered‐line inductor, three different CP DRA have been designed for different wireless applications such as Wi‐MAX and WLAN/ISM 2400 band. Distribution of electric field inside rectangular DRA shows that all three antenna having TE11δ mode. Finally, a lower frequency band application at 2.4 GHz (ISM) called here as Proposed Antenna, has been considered for fabrication. This designed antenna shows measured ?10 dB input impedance bandwidth of 20.67% and 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth of 27.95% in broadside direction. All these three CP antennas (Antenna‐1 to Proposed Antenna) are showing stable gain and right hand circular polarization in broadside direction.  相似文献

A dual‐band MIMO slot antenna with polarization diversity and improved gain is proposed in this article. The antenna is composed of two C‐type back‐to‐back connected slot resonators and offers resonances at 3.5 and 5.2 GHz. This antenna element is further used to design a MIMO antenna. By introducing one U‐shaped slot between two antenna elements, isolation between the ports of this MIMO antenna is improved further. Finally, an artificial magnetic conductor (AMC) is placed below the MIMO antenna to enhance its gain. Gain enhancement of 1.5 and 2.2 dB is achieved at lower and upper band, respectively. S‐parameters, radiation patterns, gain, envelope correlation coefficient, and channel capacity loss are investigated to conclude about its performances in MIMO applications. Dual band dual polarization (circular and linear), improved isolation, polarization diversity (right‐hand circular polarization and left‐hand circular polarization), gain enhancement all are presented in a simple design represents the novelty of the proposed MIMO antenna.  相似文献

A wideband circularly polarized (CP) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) loaded with the partially reflective surface for gain enhancement is presented in this article. First, the DRA is excited by a microstrip line through modified stepped ring cross‐slot to generate the circular polarization. Four modified parasitic metallic plates are sequentially placed around the DRA for greatly widening the axial‐ratio bandwidth. Then, a partially reflective surface is introduced for enhancing the gain performance and further improving the CP bandwidth as well. Finally, an optimized prototype is fabricated to verify the design concept. The measured results show that the proposed DRA achieves 54.3% impedance bandwidth (VSWR<2) and 54.9% 3‐dB AR bandwidth. Besides, its average and peak gains are 10.7 dBic and 14.2 dBic, respectively. Wide CP band and high gains make the proposed DRA especially attractive for some broadband wireless applications such as satellite communication and remote sensing.  相似文献

In this article, a wide‐band circularly polarized slot antenna array with reconfigurable feed‐network for WiMAX, C‐Band, and ITU‐R applications is proposed. Different novel methods are used in proposed array to improve antenna features such as impedance matching, 3 dB axial‐ratio bandwidth (ARBW), gain, and destructive coupling effects. Miniaturized dual‐feed square slot antenna, with one attached L‐shaped strip and a pair of T‐shaped strip at ground surface for improving impedance matching and circular polarization (CP) purity, is presented. For further enhancement of CP attributes, reconfigurable sequentially rotated feed network is utilized to obtain wider 3 dB ARBW. Furthermore reconfigurable property of network gives controlling Right and Left handed CPs, respectively. Finally, a special form of Electromagnetic Band gap structure is employed on top layer of substrate that provides high isolation between radiating elements and array feed network to enhance overall performance of antenna. The measured results depict 3 dB ARBW from 4.6 to 7.2 GHz, impedance bandwidth from 3.3 to 8.8 GHz for VWSR<2, and peak gain of 10 dBi at 6 GHz. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A low profile circularly polarized (CP) antenna with reconfigurable polarization is designed and presented, which can radiate omnidirectional patterns that can be switched between left‐hand circularly polarized (LHCP) and right‐hand circularly polarized (RHCP). A pair of arc‐shaped complementary dipoles is acted as reconfigurable elements by bridging four pin diodes at the dipole arced arms. A meander phase shift line is employed to connected the arc dipole arms and plate cavity to adjust the phase relationship of two sources. The proposed antenna exhibits the omnidirectional radiation pattern by combining six identical elements placed in a circular array configuration. 24 p‐i‐n diodes are exploited to six elements, by manipulating the dc bias voltage across the diodes, the polarization state of the antenna can be switched. The patterns of the antenna are similar to that of a dipole, but its size is only about Φ0.87 × 0.029λ0 at 5.8 GHz. The overlapped bandwidth of measured 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) and 10‐dB return loss is 5.724‐5.87 and 5.738‐5.91 GHz for two polarization states, which are right on the target of ISM band. It can be well adapted to medical diagnosis systems.  相似文献

A microstrip antenna with dual‐band reconfigurable circular polarization (CP) characteristics in Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) and Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) bands is presented in this article. The proposed antenna has a symmetrical U‐shaped slot with PIN diodes on the ground plane. The slotted ground generates a resonant mode for broad impedance‐band width, and excites contrary CP state at 2.45 GHz for WLAN and 3.4 GHz for WiMAX, respectively. Because switching the states of PIN diodes on the slot can redirect the current path, the CP state of the proposed antenna can be simply switched between the right‐handed CP and left‐handed CP. The proposed antenna has a low profile and a simple structure. Measured results of the fabricated antenna prototype are carried out to verify the simulation analysis. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a wideband circularly polarized half‐split cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (HS‐CDRA) having two layers with different permittivity in radial direction is investigated. Designed antenna is excited by a new modified CPW fed which consists of signal line, helps to realization of circular polarization, half‐split cylindrical dielectric resonator (HS‐CDR), to confirm that circular polarization in proposed antenna. HS‐CDR is made of two different materials which can supports to enhance the input impedance bandwidth and 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth. From the distributions of E‐fields in HS‐CDRA, it is observed that TM11δ mode has been excited. To confirmed the circular polarization in proposed antenna, E‐field distribution on different phases (φ = 0º, 90º, 180º, and 270º) have been plotted. This antenna provides measured ?10 dB input impedance bandwidth of 25.94% (centered on 4.70 GHz) and 3‐dB axial ratio bandwidth in broadside direction of 17.34% (centered on 4.90 GHz). The average gain and radiation efficiency in working band are 1.56 dBi and 93.43% in broadside direction, respectively. CP radiation pattern shows that the proposed antenna has left hand circular polarization and this developed antenna could be useful for wireless applications like WLAN/Wi‐MAX bands.  相似文献

A novel wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna array is designed, which consists of a horizontally placed wideband phase shifting feed network and four vertically placed linearly polarized dipole antenna elements, and the circular polarization is realized based on sequential rotation feeding technology. By placing two parasitic strips and two grounding strips on the top and side of each T‐shaped dipole antenna element, the impedance bandwidth and circular polarization performance of the antenna can be further improved. The simulation results show that the 10‐dB impedance bandwidth of the antenna is 93% (1.56‐4.27 GHz) and the 3‐dB AR bandwidth is 80.7% (1.7‐4.0 GHz). The measured results are in good agreement with the simulation results. Due to the use of orthogonally placed wideband feed network and wideband array elements, the proposed antenna array has a wider circular polarization bandwidth than the similar antenna arrays reported.  相似文献

A broadband high‐gain circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antenna operating in X band is proposed. The circular polarization property is achieved by rotating four narrow band linearly polarized (LP) microstrip patch elements in sequence. Since the conventional series‐parallel feed network is not conducive to the miniaturization of the array, a corresponding simplified feed network is designed to realize the four‐way equal power division and sequential 90° phase shift. With this feed network, the impedance bandwidth (IBW) of the CP array is greatly improved compared with that of the LP element, while maintaining a miniaturized size. Then, parasitic patches are introduced to enhance the axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW). A prototype of this antenna is fabricated and tested. The size of proposed antenna is 0.93λ0 × 0.93λ0 × 0.017λ0 (λ0 denotes the space wavelength corresponding to the center frequency 10.4 GHz). The measured 10‐dB IBW and 3‐dB ARBW are 13.6% (9.8‐11.23 GHz), 11.2% (9.9‐11.07 GHz) respectively, and peak gain in the overlapping band is 9.8 dBi.  相似文献

The design of a microstrip‐fed annular‐ring slot antenna (ARSA) with circular polarization (CP) radiation is initially studied. To obtain CP radiation with broad 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth that can cover the WiMAX 2.3 GHz (2305–2320 MHz, 2345–2360 MHz) and WLAN 2.4 GHz (2400–2480 MHz) bands, a novel technique of extending an inverted L‐shaped slot from the bottom section of the annular‐ring is proposed. To suppress the harmonic modes induced by the CP ARSA, the technique of integrating a defected ground structure into the annular‐ring slot is further introduced. From the measured results, 10‐dB impedance bandwidth and 3‐dB AR bandwidth of 44.86 and 9.68% were achieved by the proposed harmonic suppressed CP ARSA. Furthermore, average gain and radiation efficiency of ~4.7 dBic and 71%, respectively, were also exhibited across the bands of interest. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a wideband circularly polarized rectangular dielectric resonator antenna (RDRA) coupled through orthogonal slots and excited with a new microstrip circular ring has been investigated. Circular polarization has been achieved by using plus shaped (+) slot on the ground plane and excited through a new microstrip circular ring feed. TE11δ mode has been excited in the RDRA which has been confirmed through the distribution of E ‐field and dielectric waveguide model (DWM) method of RDRA. Circularly polarized (CP) RDRA offering measured ?10 dB input impedance bandwidth of 20.79% (centered at 3.27 GHz) and 3 dB axial ratio bandwidth in broadside direction of 12.09% (centered at 3.39 GHz), respectively. From the CP radiation pattern, proposed design confirms that right ‐ handed CP (RHCP) in broadside direction. The difference between RHCP field and left ‐ handed CP (LHCP) field are above ?26 dB in operational band. In addition, the proposed CP antenna offers stable gain and radiation efficiency in working bands and it is suitable for IEEE 802.16e/d Wi‐MAX (3.3‐3.7 GHz) band.  相似文献

A polarization and frequency reconfigurable circularly polarized (CP) antenna is proposed based on a novel bilateral switching mechanism. Two triangular monopole antennas are connected to each other in an L‐shaped form by a narrow link to produce a CP operation. In the proposed technique, 4 PIN‐diode‐based switches are designed with desired insertion loss and isolation, and only 2 DC‐voltage controllers. These switches are located on the links and the feed lines to realize a polarization reconfigurable feature including both right‐hand CP (RHCP) and left‐hand CP (LHCP) modes. Moreover, 2 CP states, a single wideband operation and a dual‐band operation, can be supported by this mechanism. In a special performance of the switches, CP reconfigurability can be obtained in a narrow‐band mode around 2.45 GHz. Two general simulations are performed based on the simple microstrip links and a diode‐circuit model. The measured results exhibit a wide overlapped bandwidth (AR < 3 dB and VSWR < 2) of 44.4% (1.63–2.56 GHz) with a peak gain of 2.88 dBi in the first state and 5.5% (1.22~1.29GHz) and 20.6% (2.12–2.61 GHz) with the peak gains of 0.52 and 3.0 dBi in the second state, respectively. A wide beamwidth is obtained more than 75°. This work is appropriate for L‐ and S‐band CP diversity applications.  相似文献

The design of a simple ultrahigh frequency RFID (radio frequency identification) reader antenna that can operate within the North America RFID band (902–928 MHz) is studied. To generate circular polarization (CP) radiation in this band, a novel method of loading two narrow open‐ended slots (slits) into an eccentric annular slot patch is proposed. To allow optimum impedance matching with enhanced CP bandwidth, the radiating patch is loaded to an L‐shaped ground plane. From the experimental results, the proposed antenna can yield an impedance bandwidth (10‐dB return loss) between 650 MHz to 1125 MHz, while good CP bandwidth (3‐dB axial ratio, AR) from 901 MHz to 930 MHz is also attained. Furthermore, gain level and efficiency of more than 7.8 dBic and 90%, respectively, were also measured. By simply removing one of the slits, this proposed antenna can also be modified to operate within the China (840–846 MHz) and European (865–868 MHz) RFID band.  相似文献

A broadband horizontally polarized omnidirectional antenna array is proposed, which consists of a circular array of four identical broadband T‐bar fed cavity‐backed slot antenna elements and a 1‐to‐4 power divider. The proposed omnidirectional antenna array has a compact diameter of only 0.44λ0, a broad bandwidth of 75.9% (450‐1000 MHz) and a favorable omnidirectional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane with a gain variation below 3 dB in the operating band. Moreover, the cavity‐backed structure makes the proposed antenna array hardly affected by metal environment and the all metal construction allows for high‐power applications, and the reserved cable channel behind the cavities of the antenna elements ensures the extensionality and stability of the proposed array when longitudinal array expansion is needed. Design procedures of the proposed antenna array have been described in detail, simulations and measurements of the proposed antenna array have also been carried out to validate its performance in this article.  相似文献

A single‐fed circularly polarized square shaped wide slot antenna with modified ground plane and microstrip feed has been presented. The field in the slot is perturbed by introducing an antipodal strips section attached with a microstrip line to produce circular polarization in a wide band of frequencies. The antipodal strip section consists of a group of four strips of unequal length and separation. The presence of asymmetric perturbations in the slot is mainly responsible for exciting two orthogonal modes in the slot having equal magnitude and 90° phase difference which results in circular polarization. A wide bandwidth of 3.3 GHz (4.4 GHz‐7.7 GHz) has been achieved for an axial ratio value AR < 3 dB with the minimum axial ratio value being 0.3 dB. The impedance bandwidth for |S11| < ?10 dB ranges from 4.3 GHz to 8 GHz, and therefore covers most of the C‐band communication systems. The antenna exhibits stable radiation patterns throughout the circular polarization bandwidth with a gain around 6 dBi in entire operational bandwidth. A prototype of antenna was fabricated and measured. The antenna has a planar size 0.40λ0 × 0.40λ0 and thickness of 0.02λ0 where λ0 is the wavelength in free space at the lowest frequency. With its compact size and low profile, the antenna is a favorable choice for WLAN (5.15‐5.85 GHz) and a wide variety of C‐band wireless applications.  相似文献

A novel broadband circularly polarized (CP) C‐shaped slot antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide is presented. The broadband CP operation can be achieved simply using a C‐shaped slot in the ground to produce orthogonal surface currents for left‐hand circular polarization. Using the semicircle‐shaped radiator patch, wide impedance bandwidth and broad axial‐ratio (AR) bandwidth can be obtained simultaneously. The measured results show that the proposed antenna can provide a 10‐dB impedance bandwidth of 105% from 2.78 to 8.92 GHz, and a 3‐dB AR bandwidth of 70.4% from 2.9 to 6.05 GHz. Finally, an antenna prototype with a reflector for unidirectional pattern applications is also developed. The proposed antenna has broader impedance and CP bandwidths but with a more compact size compared with the previous designs. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, details of a dual band microstrip patch antenna (MPA) array feed for an offset reflector antenna is presented. The main objective of the proposed structure is to achieve low cross‐polarization at Φ = 90° plane in the reflector pattern. Low cross‐polar levels in the reflector pattern are achieved by illuminating the reflector with fields of the proposed dual band feed structure. A centered circular array as the dual band feed structure is proposed in which the central radiating element is a dual mode circular MPA operating at 6 GHz and the surrounding circular ring of eight circular MPA elements operating at 4 GHz in the dominant mode. The dual mode central antenna uses the concept of conjugate field matching for cross‐polarization reduction. TM21 mode is excited at an appropriate ratio with the TM11 mode to achieve the proper field matching at 6 GHz. The radius of the surrounding circular array is varied to obtain cross‐polarization better than ?30 dB at both the resonant frequencies. The offset reflector gain is found to be better than 37 dB with a 2.5 m parabolic reflector and F/D = 0.8 at both the operating frequencies.  相似文献

A wide‐beam circular polarization (CP) antenna and a wide‐angle scanning phased array based on novel polarization rotation reflective surface (PRRS) are proposed. The CP wide‐beam pattern is obtained by the combination of the radiation wave from the patch antenna and the orthogonal reflected wave from the PRRS with a 90° phase difference. The proposed CP wide‐beam antenna obtains the patterns with the 3‐dB beamwidth more than 136° and the axial ratio (AR) beamwidth more than 132° in the xoz‐plane. Furthermore, an eight‐element phased array based on the wide‐beam CP antenna element is also developed. The measured results show that the main beam of the array can scan from ?65° to 65° with a gain fluctuation less than 3 dB and the ARs at every scanning angle less than 3 dB.  相似文献
