Methionine requirement of channel catfish fed soybean meal-corn-based diets   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A soybean meal-corn-based diet was used to determine dietary methionine (Met) required by 14-g channel catfish (Ictalurus punctatus) in a 42-d experiment at 25 degrees C. The basal diet with balanced limiting amino acids relative to the catfish whole-body amino acid profile contained 277 g of CP, 3.6 g of Met, 4.0 g of cystine (Cys), and 10 MJ of DE/kg of DM. DL-Methionine was added to the basal diet from 0 to 12.0 g/kg in 2-g intervals at the expense of L-glutamic acid to produce seven isonitrogenous and isocaloric diets. A reference diet contained 331 g of CP, 8 g of Met, 5 g of Cys, and 10 MJ of DE/kg of DM (included 8% fish meal). Seven graded Met levels resulted in quadratic responses (P < .01) of weight gain, specific growth rate, feed or GE intake, feed or energy efficiency, protein or energy retention, protein efficiency ratio, and apparent net protein or energy utilization. Channel catfish required 9.4 g of Met/kg of DM (34.1 g/kg of CP) with a total 11.3 g/kg of calculated digestible sulfur-containing amino acids based on multiple regression dose-response models or 270 mg of Met/kg of fish per day based on a broken-line response of protein gain to Met intake. At the adequate Met level, catfish with the lowest (P < .05) liver lipids showed feed intake and protein or energy utilization efficiency similar (P > .05) to that of catfish fed the reference diet. Catfish fed all-plant-protein diets require more dietary methionine than previously reported. Catfish fed corn-soybean meal diets fortified adequately with methionine result in performance that approaches that of fish fed a fish meal-based diet.  相似文献

A feeding trial was performed using 4 x 60 day-old chickens (Ross 208 cockerels) raised up to 42 days of age to determine whether exogenous phytase addition increases phosphorus utilisation by broiler chickens, and to assess its effects on some production traits as well as on the ash content and mechanical stability of the tibia. The chickens' feed consisted of maize, wheat, soybean meal, fish meal, yeast, and fat powder. The basic feed was supplemented with inorganic phosphorus in groups A and B. In groups C and D, the amount of the inorganic phosphorus supplement (DCP) was decreased by 50%, at the same calcium/phosphorus ratio. The 50% reduction of inorganic phosphorus supplementation represents a 20% decrease of total phosphorus. To the diets of groups B and D a phytase enzyme preparation (Phytase Novo CT) was added. The calculated exogenous phytase activity was 600 FYT/kg feed. The decrease of inorganic phosphorus did not cause significant differences in the daily weight gain but lowered the feed conversion rate by 10%. Calcium and phosphorus excretion decreased by 18% and 15%, and the breaking strength of the tibia was also lower. Phytase supplementation of the feed at a lower rate of inorganic phosphorus supplementation did not cause changes in the body weight gain but improved the feed conversion rate by 5.6%. Phosphorus and calcium output decreased by 21% and 11%, respectively, but chemical composition and mechanical stability of the tibia were unaltered.  相似文献

Cannulated steers were used to determine the effects of supplemental soybean meal, heated soybean meal, fish meal, and a combination of fish meal, heated soybean meal, and corn gluten meal on intraruminal protein degradation and absorption of AA from the small intestine. Organic matter digestion in the reticulo-rumen was greater in steers fed diets supplemented with soybean meal, but whole tract digestibility was not affected by protein source. Total and bacterial CP flows to the abomasum were lower in steers fed diets supplemented with fish meal than in steers fed diets supplemented with heated soybean meal or the combination supplement. Dietary CP flow was 33.5% higher in steers fed diets supplemented with heated soybean meal than in steers fed diets supplemented with soybean meal, fish meal, or the combination supplement. Less essential and nonessential AA flowed to the abomasum and were absorbed from the small intestine of steers receiving diets supplemented with soybean meal. Digestibility of small intestine AA was 21.9% lower in steers receiving the soybean meal treatment. Abomasal flows of Met and Thr and absorption of Lys, Met, and Thr were increased in steers fed diets containing heated soybean meal, fish meal, and the combination supplement. These results suggest that the supply of AA deficient in microbial CP (Lys, Met, and Thr) can be increased and that absorbed AA balance can be changed markedly by selection of rumen escape protein supplements.  相似文献

Chrysomyia albiceps often feeds to repletion and then regurgitates a portion of the food, a behaviour that heightens its importance as a mechanical vector of enteric pathogens. Pupae of this fly are susceptible to the attack of the parasitic wasp, Nasonia vitripennis in the laboratory as well as in nature at different underground depths where they pupate. The fly needs to feed on proteinaceous meals to start and complete its ovarian development. Liver, beef, camel, chicken, rabbit and fish meat were tested. Of the 6 tested diets, liver proved to be the most advantageous as 98% pupation was obtained, while with beef, camel, chicken, rabbit and fish 95.2%, 95.9%, 90.9%, 89.1% and 86% pupation, respectively, were obtained. Field observations revealed that Chrysomyia albiceps prefers to breed in big carcasses over small ones as the latter contain less moisture or amount of food and are subjected to desiccation and consumption before the full growth of larvae especially during the hot and dry months. Anatomical studies of the females attracted to a piece of meat in laboratory and outdoors experiments showed that the degree of ovarian development is variable including completely undeveloped ovaries, sexually mature ones and different stages of ovarian development. So, attraction to meat fulfill to important functions: nutrition and oviposition. Feeding visits are short in duration (6.2 +/- 2.1 min) and behaviourally simple. The oviposition visits last from 40-60 min with more complex behaviour which can be divided into the time before, during and after oviposition. Females in selecting a place for oviposition, preferred the softer places of the fresh meat; round its lower moist edge where much liquid food is present and where the females oviposit in groups at one location. When a female began to oviposit, it was joined by others that located the eggs with their ovipositors and started to oviposit where a clumped irregular egg masses are deposited.  相似文献

The effects of choice of diets on feed intake were studied using 12 lactating Holstein cows. A switchback design was used that had three periods and two sequential blocks. Diets were 1) a control total mixed ration (TMR), which consisted of alfalfa haylage, corn silage, and a concentrate mixture based on ground corn and soybean meal (25:25:50 on a dry matter basis) and 2) a sweetened TMR in which a brown sugar food product constituted 1.5% of the dietary dry matter. Treatments consisted of the control TMR fed on both sides of divided feed bunks, the sweetened TMR fed on both sides of divided feed bunks, or both TMR fed on alternating (daily) sides of divided feed bunks in tie stalls. Periods were 2 wk in duration, and cows averaged 67 and 53 d of lactation at the start of blocks 1 and 2, respectively. The dry matter intake, body weight, milk yield, and percentages of milk fat, protein, and solids not fat were similar when either TMR was fed alone. A choice of control TMR or sweetened TMR did not affect any of these variables. The dry matter intake, body weight, milk yield, and milk protein percentage were affected by block; however, these effects were probably caused by differences between the blocks in environment and stage of lactation. The results of this experiment might have been affected by the composition of the control TMR, its similarity to the sweetened TMR, availability of both diets simultaneously when a choice was offered, and use of a TMR instead of separate feeds or simpler mixtures.  相似文献

To investigate whether dietary fat source and energy restriction interactively influence plasma leptin levels and its association of leptin with insulin action, rats were fed diets containing either fish, safflower oil, or beef tallow (20% wt/wt) for 10 weeks. Groups of rats consumed each diet ad libitum or at 85% or 70% of ad libitum energy intake in a design that held fat intake constant. Graded levels of energy restriction caused body weight to decrease (P < 0.001) differently according to the dietary fat provided. Plasma leptin concentrations were 60% higher (P < 0.05) in the groups fed fish oil and safflower oil ad libitum compared with those in the beef tallow group, despite smaller perirenal fat mass and fat cell size in the fish oil-fed animals. Energy restriction resulted in a 62% decrease (P < 0.05) in leptin levels in fish oil- and safflower oil-fed rats, whereas no changes were observed in beef tallow-fed animals. Plasma insulin levels were lower (P < 0.05) in the fish oil group fed ad libitum compared with those in the two other diet groups. These data demonstrate a hyperleptinemic effect in animals consuming diets rich in polyunsaturated fatty acid, which can be normalized to the level of saturated fat consumption by mild energy restriction. Thus, dietary fatty acid composition, independent of adipose tissue mass, is an important determinant of circulating leptin level in diet-induced obesity.  相似文献

Thirty-six young male Syrian hamsters were fed with test diets containing coconut oil, soybean oil or fish oil with and without 0.5% cholesterol for 6 weeks. Without dietary cholesterol supplementation, animals on the fish oil diet had significantly lower plasma total triglyceride (TG) and total cholesterol than those on the coconut oil or soybean oil diet. The decrease of TG was seen mainly in the very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) fraction. The degree of decrease in cholesterol was similar in all of the lipoprotein fractions. With 0.5% dietary cholesterol supplementation, there was no significant difference in plasma TG level among the three dietary groups. However, the fish oil group had significantly higher plasma cholesterol than the coconut oil and soybean oil groups. The increase of cholesterol was mainly in the VLDL and low density lipoprotein (LDL) fractions. In contrast to the plasma cholesterol level, the hepatic cholesteryl ester content was significantly lower in the cholesterol-supplemented fish oil group than in the coconut oil and soybean oil counterparts. The cholesterol-supplemented fish oil group showed higher liver microsomal acyl-coenzyme A:cholesterol acyltransferase activity than the other two groups, while there was no significant difference in the excretion of fecal neutral and acidic sterols among the three dietary groups.  相似文献

The effects of varying dietary fat saturation [butter (B), beef tallow (BT)] or polyunsaturation [(n-6) soybean oil (SBO), (n-3) menhaden oil (MO)] and cholesterol content (0.05 and 0.5 g/100 g) on systolic blood pressure (SBP), plasma lipids and tissue antioxidant status were investigated in 14-wk-old spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) and normotensive Wistar Kyoto (WKY) rats. Varying dietary fat composition for 9 wk had no influence on SBP in either SHR or WKY rats. Rats fed MO diets exhibited smaller (P < 0.05) body weight gains, lower (P < 0.05) feed efficiency ratios and lower (P < 0.05) plasma cholesterol concentrations than those fed the B, BT and SBO diets. Significant (P < 0.05) interactions for animal strain x cholesterol intake and animal strain x fat source were noted for serum cholesterol concentrations. SHR exhibited higher (P < 0.05) RBC and liver catalase (CAT), and heart and liver superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities similar to those of WKY rats. The lower (P <0.01) RBC, heart and liver glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) activities observed in SHR coincided with higher (P <0.01) glutathione reductase (GSSG-Red), compared with WKY rats. Dietary cholesterol intake had no effect on RBC, heart and liver total sulfhydryl concentration or GSH-Px activities, but increased (P <0. 001) liver GSSG-Red. Feeding MO resulted in lower (P <0.001) RBC and heart GSH-Px activities. In contrast, feeding B and BT resulted in lower GSH-Px in liver. The significant (P < 0.01) animal strain x fat source interaction obtained for liver GSH-Px activity indicated that SHR responded differently to polyunsaturated fatty acid feeding than their WKY counterparts. Diet-induced changes in tissue antioxidant status were tissue specific and did not affect the development of hypertension in SHR.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of fish meal (FM) in beef cattle diets on growth performance, carcass characteristics, and fatty acid (FA) composition of longissimus muscle in 63 yearling steers (335 +/- 23 kg). High-moisture corn and alfalfa silage diets were supplemented with either a corn gluten/blood meal mixture or FM at 10% of the diet. Fish meal contained (as-is basis) 5.87 g/kg eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and 9.84 g/kg docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Seven strategies were developed to feed either a control diet (no FM) or diets containing 5 or 10% FM with FM fed for either 56, 112, or 168 d before slaughter. Average daily gain and feed efficiency were not affected (P > .10) by FM feeding but DMI decreased. Within FM diets, cattle fed 5% FM consumed more (P < .01) DM and gained more (P < .02) than cattle fed 10% FM. Carcass traits were not affected (P > .05) by feeding strategy except for fatter (P < .05) and lower (P < .06) yielding carcasses in cattle fed 5 vs 10% FM diets. Fish meal feeding increased (P < .01) concentrations of (n-3) FA, including EPA and DHA, and decreased (P < .05) concentrations of arachidonic acid. Increasing the amount of dietary FM further increased (P < .01) concentrations of EPA and DHA and decreased (P < .05) concentrations of (n-6) FA. We estimate that a 114-g steak from cattle fed 10% FM would supply 35 to 90% of the current average daily intake of EPA and DHA in North America. The results indicate that FM may have a role in niche marketing of beef provided that eating quality is not compromised.  相似文献

Sixty growing Najedi ram lambs (23.5 kg BW: 3 months old) were divided randomly to 6 equal groups. Each group was fed on different (isonitrogenous) diet, being either high energy (2.79 Mcal ME/kg DM) or low energy (2.15 Mcal Me/kg DM), supplemented with either 0.5 or 10% poultry offal meal (POM) in replacement of an equal amount of soybean meal (SBM). Feeding was ad libitum for 15 weeks experimental period. Thyroid hormones levels in plasma were determined during the last 7 weeks of the experiment and were related to feed intake and body weight during the same period. Lambs fed high-energy diets showed higher (P < 0.01) levels of both thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3) compared to those fed low-energy diets leading to lower T4 to T3 ratios. There was more conversion of T4 to T3 for more utilization of food by the lambs fed the 10% POM diet of the high-energy content.  相似文献

Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is incorporated in large amounts in structural lipids of the developing central nervous system. Milk DHA varies with maternal dietary DHA, but the effect of different intakes of DHA from milk on infant tissue fatty acids is unknown. The effect of milk high or low in DHA on the fatty acid composition of piglet brain, synaptic plasma membranes, retina, liver, plasma and RBC was studied. Pregnant sows were fed diets with 2.5 g/100 g vegetable oil until 4 d pre-partum and were then fed diets with 2.5 g/100 g soybean and canola oils or 4 g/100 g soybean oil plus 1 g/100 g fish oil to 15 d postpartum. Fish oil increased the milk DHA and eicosapentanoic acid from 0.1 to 1.5% and from 0.2 to 0.4% of fatty acids, respectively, but did not alter milk arachidonic acid. The level of DHA was significantly higher in plasma, liver and RBC phospholipids, brain and synaptic plasma membrane of 15-d-old piglets fed milk with high DHA compared with low DHA. Liver, plasma and RBC, but not brain or retina arachidonic acid, was significantly lower in piglets fed the high DHA milk compared with low DHA milk. Thus, differences in plasma, RBC and liver arachidonic acid and DHA of 15-d-old nursing piglets due to the maternal dietary fat were not accompanied by similar differences in central nervous system fatty acids. These studies show maternal DHA intake determines in part the infant plasma, RBC and liver phospholipid DHA.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Diets rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) are well known to suppress hepatic lipogenic enzymes compared to fat-free diets or diets rich in saturated fatty acids. However, the mechanism underlying suppression of lipogenic enzymes is not quite clear. The present study was undertaken to investigate whether lipid peroxidation products are involved in suppression of lipogenic enzymes. Therefore, an experiment with growing male rats assigned to six groups over a period of 40 d was carried out. Rats received semisynthetic diets containing 9.5% coconut oil and 0.5% fresh soybean oil (coconut oil diet, peroxide value 5.1 meq O2/kg oil), 10% fresh soybean oil (fresh soybean oil diet, peroxide value 9.5 meq O2/kg oil), or 10% thermally treated soybean oil (oxidized soybean oil diet, peroxide value 74 meq O2/kg oil). To modify the antioxidant state of the rats, we varied the vitamin E supply (11 and 511 mg alpha-tocopherol equivalents per kg of diet) according to a bi-factorial design. Food intake and body weight gain were not influenced by dietary fat and vitamin E supply. Activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes were markedly influenced by the dietary fat. Feeding either fresh or oxidized soybean oil diets markedly reduced activities of fatty acid synthase, (FAS), acetyl CoA-carboxylase, (AcCX), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, (G6PDH), 6-phosphogluconate dehydrogenase, and ATP citrate lyase (ACL) relative to feeding the coconut oil diet. Moreover, feeding oxidized soybean oil slightly, but significantly, lowered activities of FAS, AcCX, and ACL compared to feeding fresh soybean oil. Activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes were reflected by concentrations of triglycerides in liver and plasma. Rats fed the coconut oil diet had markedly higher triglyceride concentrations in liver and plasma than rats consuming fresh or oxidized soybean oil diets, and rats fed oxidized soybean oil had lower concentrations than rats fed fresh soybean oil. The vitamin E supply of the rats markedly influenced concentrations of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances in liver, but it did not influence activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes. Because the vitamin E supply had no effect, and ingestion of an oxidized oil had only a minor effect, on activities of hepatic lipogenic enzymes, it is strongly suggested that neither exogenous nor endogenous lipid peroxidation products play a significant role in the suppression of hepatic lipogenic enzymes by diets rich in PUFA. Therefore, we assumed that dietary PUFA themselves are involved in regulation of hepatic lipogenic enzymes. Nevertheless, the study shows that ingestion of oxidized oils, regardless of the vitamin E supply, also affects hepatic lipogenesis, and hence influences triglyceride levels in liver and plasma.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted with a total of 432 broiler chicks to investigate the influence of supplementing different amounts of boron to practical corn-soybean meal diets. The birds were housed in batteries and had free access to feed and water. In Experiment 1, 144 1-day-old broiler chicks were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0, 5, 40, 80, or 120 ppm boron for 21 days. Female body weight was not influenced by the dietary treatments. However, males supplemented with 5 ppm boron were heavier and their tibias resisted more load than the control birds. Overall feed conversion was not influenced by boron. In Experiment 2, 288 1-day-old broiler chicks were fed a basal diet supplemented with 0, 60, 120, 240, or 300 ppm boron for 22 days. Male and female body weights of the 300-ppm group were lower than those of the control birds. Percentage tibia ash was highest with 300 ppm boron. No significant differences were found in intestinal tract weight (grams of intestine per 100 g body weight) among treatments. Boron concentration in the breast muscle and liver increased as dietary concentration of boron increased. Data collected in these two experiments indicated that consumption of diets containing up to 240 ppm boron from hatch to 21 days of age was not detrimental to broiler performance. Data were not conclusive on the need for supplemental boron in broiler diets based on corn and soybean meal.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of replacing some soybean meal (SBM) protein with fish meal (FM) protein in diets adequate and slightly deficient in CP, with or without .75% sodium bentonite (NaB) on performance and ruminal and blood metabolites of individually fed Suffolk lambs. Diets were based on corn, SBM, and cottonseed hulls. In Exp. 1, five lambs were assigned to each of the three dietary treatments (11% CP with 3% FM, 13% CP with 0 or 3% FM). Lambs fed diets that contained 11% CP with 3% FM or 13% CP with 0% FM had similar DMI and ADG. Gain and feed efficiency were slightly improved (P = .18) by the 13% CP diet with 3% FM. In Exp. 2, 32 lambs were assigned to four dietary treatments (13.5% CP of DM) in a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement (0 or 3% FM, and 0 or .75% NaB on an as-fed basis). The DMI and ADG were increased (P < .05) by FM and NaB supplementation. Interactions (P < .05) revealed that NaB increased DMI, ADG, gain per feed (g/kg of DMI), and plasma urea N concentration in the absence of FM but not in the presence of FM in the diet. Neither FM nor NaB influenced (P = .25) wool growth. Total ruminal VFA were increased (P < .06) by FM and NaB. Differences in mineral content of phalanx bone, liver, and kidney were small and may be related to the mineral content of diets and the effect of NaB on mineral solubilities. Similar DMI and ADG of lambs fed FM and NaB separately and in combination suggest that their beneficial effect is not additive.  相似文献

Methyl esters of dimeric fatty acids were prepared by fractionating a mixture of conjugated linoleic and oleic acids that was heated for 24 hr at 300 C in the absence of air. Rats fed diets containing less than 1% dimers showed no significant difference (P less than 0.05) in the growth rate, feed efficiency, liver:body weight ratio, and lipid:liver weight ratio from those fed normal diets. A lymph cannulation study using 14C labeled dimers showed that ca. 0.4% of the dimers fed were absorbed within 12 hr and were transported as free acids in the lymph. Within a 28 hr period, 2% of the labeled dimers fed by gastric intubation were oxidized to 14CO2, and 1% radioactivity was recovered from the urine. The metabolism of methyl oleate appeared normal for rats prefed diets containing dimers.  相似文献

The effects on performance, digestibility, N utilization and plasma amino acid concentrations of dietary chickpea (Cicer arietinum, var. Kabuli) seed meal, globulin proteins or buffer-insoluble residue [starch + non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) + lignin] were studied in growing rats. Chickpea meal, defatted soybean meal, chickpea globulins and lactalbumin were each incorporated into diets as the sole source of dietary protein (100 g/kg). In addition, chickpea insoluble residue was included in a control diet in the same proportion found in the chickpea meal. Rats were killed while under halothane anesthesia after 10 d of consuming the diets, and ileal contents were washed out and freeze-dried for digestibility measurements. Weight gains and gain:feed ratios of rats fed chickpea diets for 10 d did not differ from those of rats fed defatted soybean but were significantly lower than those of rats given the control (lactalbumin) diet. However, ileal and fecal N digestibilities and N retention by rats fed the chickpea diet were significantly lower than those obtained with the lactalbumin or soybean diet. The inclusion of both chickpea meal or its globulin proteins in the diet significantly increased the amount of N excreted, primarily as urea, through the urine. However, although ileal N digestibility values for chickpea meal were significantly lower, those for its constituent globulins did not differ from control values. Urea levels in plasma in rats fed diets containing chickpea meal, globulins or soybean meal were significantly higher than in those fed lactalbumin. Furthermore, the concentrations of glycine, phenylalanine, histidine, arginine and ornithine in the plasma of rats fed chickpea meal, its globulins or defatted soybean were significantly higher, whereas those of threonine, leucine, lysine and tryptophan were significantly lower than lactalbumin-fed controls. The chickpea insoluble residue had no adverse effects on performance or N utilization by rats. We conclude that the low nutritional value of chickpea meal is likely to be due mainly to adverse effects of its globulin proteins on growth and N metabolism rather than to the action of any known antinutritional factor present in the diet.  相似文献

Reduced prevalence of diarrhea and mortality has been reported after dietary supplementation with zinc compounds in swine with naturally acquired colibacillosis and those challenge-exposed with Serpulina hyodysenteriae; however, the usefulness of this approach for control of enteric diseases of swine remains to be determined. To examine the effect of dietary zinc-containing compounds on the colonization and development of cecal lesions associated with S hyodysenteriae infection, a defined diet alone or with added ZnO, ZnSO4, or Zn-methionine complex to a final concentration of approximately 6,000 mg of Zn2+/kg of complete feed was fed ad libitum to 156 female mice (strain C3H/HeN) for 10 days prior to oral inoculation either with S hyodysenteriae or sterile trypticase soy broth. Rations were continued for 42 days, while at weekly intervals, 3 mice/group were necropsied for determination of body weight, cecal weight, liver zinc concentration, presence of S hyodysenteriae in the cecum, and gross and histologic assessments of cecal lesions. From postinoculation day 0 to 42, the liver zinc concentration of mice fed the zinc-supplemented diets was approximately twice that of mice fed the basal diet, irrespective of the source of zinc. From postinoculation day 7 through 42, the overall recovery rate of S hyodysenteriae in infected mice fed the basal diet was 77.8%. In contrast, recovery rates of S hyodysenteriae from S hyodysenteriae-inoculated mice fed the zinc-supplemented diets were 0% for Zn-methionine and ZnO and 16.7% for ZnSO4. Mice fed the basal diet had significantly (P < 0.05) higher weight gain than mice fed the zinc-supplemented diets.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

An experiment was designed to verify the effect of dietary NaHCO3 supplementation on performance of guinea fowl raised under high environmental temperatures (23.8 to 33.9 C) and average relative humidity of 78.7%. One hundred and forty guinea fowl in their final period of growth (56 to 84 d of age) were allotted to individual wire cages. Five isocaloric (3,000 kcal ME/kg) 16% CP diets based on corn and soybean meal and containing 0, 0.6, 1.2, 1.8, and 2.4% sodium bicarbonate were fed to the birds. The experiment followed a randomized block design with 28 birds per treatment (14 of each sex) with each bird being considered as one repetition. Results showed that weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, mortality, blood pH, carcass yield, and carcass composition were not affected (P > 0.05) by dietary sodium bicarbonate supplementation. Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion, carcass moisture, and fat content, however, were significantly (P < 0.05) affected by sex. Females showed 17.49% better weight gain, 7.16% greater feed intake, and 9.6% better feed conversion than males. These differences were exacerbated at supplementation levels of 1.2 and 1.8% sodium bicarbonate in the diet. Male birds showed carcass moisture values significantly (P < 0.05) greater than those of female birds; the opposite occurred with carcass fat levels. The use of sodium bicarbonate in levels up to 2.4% of the diet did not affect the performance of guinea fowl raised under the environmental conditions registered in this study.  相似文献

Ruminally degradable intake protein (DIP) and metabolizable indispensable amino acid (MIAA) requirements of feedlot steers were evaluated. Dietary treatments consisted of isocaloric 80% concentrate steam-flaked corn-based diets containing either .8% urea, 1.5% fish meal (FM), 3.0% FM, 4.5% FM, or 4.5% soybean meal (SBM). Treatment effects on characteristics of ruminal and total tract digestion were evaluated using four Holstein steers (249 kg) with cannulas in the rumen and proximal duodenum. Ruminal digestibility of OM (RDOM; P < .05) and feed N (P < .01) and microbial N flow (MNF; P < .01) to the small intestine were greater with urea as the supplemental N source. The level of DIP was closely associated (R2 = .89) with MNF. Postruminal digestibility of OM was greater (P < .05) for FM than for urea-supplemented diets, compensating for lower RDOM. There were no treatment effects (P > .10) on DOM. As the level of FM was increased, MIAA increased linearly (P < .01). Intestinal MIAA were similar (P > .10) for urea- and SBM-supplemented diets. Treatment effects on 56-d growth performance were evaluated using 100 medium-framed crossbred steers (231 kg). Daily weight gain (linear effect; P < .01), DM intake (linear effect; P < .10), feed efficiency (linear effect; P < .05), and diet NE (linear effect; P < .05) increased with level of FM supplementation. Daily weight gain (P < .10) and DM intake (P < .05) were greater for urea- than for SBM-supplemented diets. Using bovine tissue as the reference protein, the biological value (based on chemical score) of the intestinal chyme protein averaged 73%; methionine was first-limiting. There was a close association (R2 = .99) between methionine supply to the small intestine and observed/expected dietary NE. The metabolizable methionine requirement (MMETR, g/d) of medium-framed feedlot steers can be reliably predicted from measures of BW and ADG (MMETR = 1.565 + .0234ADG[268 - (29.4 x .0557BW(.75)ADG(1.097))/ADG] + .0896BW(.75)). There was a very close association (R2 = .89) between DIP and MNF (MNF = 13.7DIP - .66DIP(2) + 25.9). At maximal observed synthesis, DIP accounted for 76% of the MNF. A minimum of 100 g DIP/kg of total tract digestible OM was required to maximize RDOM and MNF.  相似文献
