The oxidation and ignition behavior of Mg–8 wt.%Al alloy added with rare earth (RE) was investigated. When 0.1 wt.%RE was added, the ignition-proof effect was optimum and the ignition temperature of the alloy increased from 654°C to 823°C. The oxide scales and substrates of the alloy with 0.1 wt.%RE were characterized by scanning electronic microscope, X-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive spectrometer. The results show that a layer of tightly coherent oxidation film formed on the alloy surface under high temperature mainly consists of MgO, RE2O3, and Al2O3, which is about 2.5–3.5 µm thick. The oxidation kinetics curve of Mg–8 wt.%Al–0.1 wt.%RE follows the parabola rule at 400°C and 700°C and cubic rule at 600°C, which proves that the oxidation at these temperatures is controlled by diffusion obstruction so that the oxidation film can effectively restrain the alloy from further oxidation.  相似文献

Nickel-based graphite-containing composites were prepared by powder metallurgy method. Their mechanical properties at room temperature and friction and wear properties from room temperature to 600 °C were investigated by a pin-on-disk tribometer with alumina, silicon nitride and nickel-based alloy as counterfaces. The effects of graphite addition amount, temperature, load, sliding speed and counterface materials on the tribological properties were discussed. The micro-structure and worn surface morphologies were analyzed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) attached with energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the composites are mainly consisted of nickel-based solid solution, free graphite and carbide formed during hot pressing. The friction and wear properties of composites are all improved by adding 6–12 wt.% graphite while the anti-bending and tensile strength as well as hardness decrease after adding graphite. The friction coefficients from room temperature to 600 °C decrease with the increase of load, sliding speed while the wear rates increase with the increasing temperature, sliding speed. The lower friction coefficients and wear rates are obtained when the composite rubs against nickel-based alloy containing molybdenum disulfide. Friction coefficients of graphite-containing composites from room temperature to 600 °C are about 0.4 while wear rates are in the magnitude of 10?5 mm3/(N m). At high temperature, the graphite is not effective in lubrication due to the oxidation and the shield of ‘glaze’ layer formed by compacting back-transferred wear particles. EDS analysis of worn surface shows that the oxides of nickel and molybdenum play the main role of lubrication instead of graphite at the temperature above 400 °C.  相似文献

The self-lubricating composites Ni3Al–BaF2–CaF2–Ag–Cr, which have varying fluoride contents, were fabricated by the powder metallurgy technique. The effect of fluoride content on the mechanical and tribological properties of the composites was investigated. The results showed that an optimal fluoride content and a balance between lubricity and mechanical strength were obtained. The Ni3Al–6.2BaF2–3.8CaF2–12.5Ag–10Cr composite showed the best friction coefficients (0.29–0.38) and wear rates (4.2 × 10−5–2.19 × 10−4 mm3 N−1 m−1) at a wide temperature range (room temperature to 800°C). Fluorides exhibited a good reduced friction performance at 400 and 600°C. However, at 800°C, the formation of BaCrO4 on the worn surface due to the tribo-chemical reaction at high temperatures provided an excellent lubricating property.  相似文献

The effect of Al2O3 content on the mechanical and tribological properties of Ni–Cr alloy was investigated from room temperature to 1000 °C. The results indicated that NiCr–40 wt% Al2O3 composite exhibited good wear resistance and its compressive strength remained 540 MPa even at 1000 °C. The values obtained for flexural strength and fracture toughness at room temperature were 771 MPa, 15.2 MPa m1/2, respectively. Between 800 °C and 1000 °C, the adhesive and plastic oxide layer on the worn surface of the composite was claimed to be responsible for low friction coefficient and wear rate.  相似文献

A composite material containing silver and molybdenum metals was fabricated by powder metallurgy method with a Ag/Mo molar ratio of 2 : 1 and the sintering temperature is 700°C. Tribological properties, especially the solid lubrication behaviours during oxidation of the composite in air, were considered from room temperature to 600°C. Phase composition, microstructure and thermal behaviour of the composite were analysed before and after tests to investigate the lubrication mechanisms. The friction coefficients of the composite are ~0.7 below 400°C but decrease sharply to ~0.18 above 500°C. Characterisations of this composite indicate that several silver molybdates (Ag2MoO4, Ag2Mo2O7 and Ag2Mo4O13) formed from oxidation of Ag–Mo composite at high temperatures benefit lubrication effects and lead to the decrease of friction coefficients. Formation mechanism of these silver molybdates during oxidation and wear was therefore studied, and a model based on solid reaction processes in the Ag–Mo–O2 system was promoted. The composites of Ni–Cr–W–Al–Ti–MoS2 with different adding amount of molybdenum disulfide (6–20 wt.%) were prepared by powder metallurgy (P/M) method. Their mechanical properties and tribological properties from room temperature to 600 °C were tested by a pin-on-disk tribometer. The effects of amounts of molybdenum disulfide, temperature, load, and speed on the friction and wear properties of composite were discussed. Besides, the tribological properties against different counterface materials, such as alumina, silicon nitride and nickel-iron-sulfide alloys were also investigated. Results indicated that the molybdenum disulfide was decomposed during the hot-press process and the eutectic sulfides of chromium were formed. The hardness and anti-bending strength can be improved by adding 6 wt.% molybdenum disulfide due to reinforcement of molybdenum. The friction coefficients and wear rates of composites decrease with the increase of adding amount of molybdenum disulfide until a critical value of 12 wt.%. The composite with 12% MoS2 shows the optimum friction and wear properties over the temperature range of RT 600 °C. The friction coefficients of composite with 12% MoS2 decrease with the increase of temperature, load, and sliding speed, while the wear rates increase with the increasing temperature and are insensitive to the sliding speed and load. The friction coefficients of less than 0.20 at 600 °C and mean wear rates of 10−5 mm3/N m are obtained when rubbing against alumina due to the lubrication of sulfide films and glaze layer formed on the friction surface at high temperature, while a relatively low wear rate of around 10−6 mm3/N m presents when rubbing against nickel-iron-sulfide alloys. At high temperature, wear rates of composite containing sulfide are inversely proportional to friction coefficients approximately.  相似文献

Resistance to wear is an important factor in design and selection of structural components in relative motion against a mating surface. The present work deals with studies on fretting wear behavior of in situ nano-Al3Ti reinforced Al–Ti–Si amorphous/nanocrystalline matrix composite, processed by high pressure (8 GPa) sintering at room temperature, 350, 400 or 450 °C. The wear experiments were carried out in gross slip fretting regime to investigate the performance of this composite against Al2O3 at ambient temperature (22–25 °C) and humidity (50–55%). The highest resistance to fretting wear has been observed in the composites sintered at 400 °C. The fretting wear involves oxidation of Al3Ti particles in the composite. A continuous, smooth and protective tribolayer is formed on the worn surface of the composite sintered at 400 °C, while fragmentation and spallation leads to a rougher surface and greater wear in the composite sintered at 450 °C.  相似文献

Films of CaSO4, BaSO4, and SrSO4 were grown with the pulsed laser deposition technique. The high temperature lubricious properties of these films were evaluated and it was found that all three sulfates exhibited a low coefficient of friction (μ ≈ 0.15) at 600°C. X-ray diffraction studies showed the presence of carbonate crystal structures along with the sulfate crystal structures after testing. The carbonate crystal structure is composed of alternating planes of alkali earth atoms and carbonate ions. The layered structure of the carbonates may be important to the lubricating mechanism as the layered structure of the dichalcogenides contributes to their tribological properties. Various observations of the wear region suggest that the starting surface finish of the metal coupon plays a significant role in the tribological mechanism of these materials. Additional composite films containing CaSO4 were grown with the plasma spray technique. The high temperature friction properties of these films were measured and compared to those of similar films containing CaF2/BaF2. Although both types of films exhibited low coefficients of friction at 600°C, analysis of the wear regions did not show the presence of CaSO4 and CaF2/BaF2, respectively. Ca and/or Ba were present, though, suggesting that a new compound is formed in the wear track and that the sulfate and fluoride phases may not be providing the low friction in these composites. In this article, field-activated and pressure-assisted synthesis was employed to synthesize an ultra-hard, super-abrasive AlMgB14–TiB2 composite ceramic. The friction and wear performance of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite were evaluated in ambient air at temperatures up to 800 °C by using a reciprocating ball-on-disk high-temperature tribometer. X-ray diffraction experiments were performed to study the crystal structure of worn surfaces of AlMgB14–TiB2 specimens at various temperatures. Scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive analysis were used to examine the worn surface features and chemical composition of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite, respectively. Results showed that the friction coefficient of the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite ranged from 0.45 to 0.55 below 300 °C, while the data obtained at 500 and 600 °C were about 0.65. The damage mechanism is transformed from mild abrasive damage at room temperature to adhesive wear at elevated temperature. In the case of 800 °C, the AlMgB14–TiB2 composite exhibited the lowest friction coefficient as the formation of a lubricious oxide film on the wear track.  相似文献

The effect of an 80Ni?20Cr (at.%) metallic coating on the cyclic oxidation behaviour of a Ti3Al‐based alloy with the composition Ti?25Al?11Nb (at.%) was investigated in this study. Cyclic oxidation tests were carried out in air at 600 °C and 900 °C for 120 h. For one cycle test, the specimens were held for 24 h at test temperature and then furnace‐cooled to room temperature. The oxidation rate was determined by plotting the mass gain per unit surface area of the specimen vs. exposure time. The morphology and composition of the oxidation products were characterized on the cross‐section of the specimens by scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. The oxidation scale forms during exposure at both 600 °C and 900 °C. TiO2 is the main oxide component, whereas the Al2O3 layer appears only discontinuously. The remarkable improvement in oxidation resistance at 900 °C was attributed to the chemical composition and structure of the scale formed on the 80Ni?20Cr coating.  相似文献

The tribological behavior of self-mated Ti3SiC2 is investigated from ambient temperature to 800?°C at a sliding speed of 0.01?m/s in air. The results show that at the temperatures lower than 300?°C, friction coefficient and wear rates are as high as 0.95 and 10?3?mm3/N?m, respectively. With the temperature increasing to 600?°C, both the friction coefficient and wear rates show consecutive decrease. At 700 and 800?°C, friction coefficient and wear rates are 0.5 and 10?6 mm3/N?m, respectively. According to the wear mechanism, the tribological behavior of Ti3SiC2 can be divided into three regimes: mechanical wear-dominated regime from ambient temperature to 300?°C characterized by pullout of grains; mixed wear regime (mechanical wear and oxidation wear) from 400 to 600?°C; and tribo-oxidation-dominated wear regime above 700?°C. The tribo-oxides on the worn surfaces involve oxides of Si and Ti. And, species transformation occurs to these two oxides with the increasing temperature. In the competition oxidation of elements Ti and Si, Si is preferably oxidized because of its high active position in the crystal structure. Additionally, plastic flow is another notable characteristic for the tribological behavior of self-mated Ti3SiC2.  相似文献

We propose a non-contact temperature measurement method that combines the temperature dependence of transmittance below 600 °C and radiation thermometry above 600 °C. The combined method uses a polarization technique and the Brewster angle between air and a dielectric film such as SiO2 or Si3N4 grown on silicon wafers. A prominent feature of this method is that both measurements of transmittance and radiance are performed with the same geometrical arrangement.For a semitransparent wafer, the measurement of p-polarized transmittance at the wavelengths of 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 μm enables temperature measurement in the range from room temperature to 600 °C. For an opaque wafer above 600 °C, the p-polarized radiation thermometry at the wavelength of 4.5 μm allows the temperature measurement without the emissivity problem. The combined method with the use of transmittance and radiance is valid in the entire temperature range irrespective of variations of film thickness and resistivity.  相似文献

In this paper, we reported the tribological behavior of Ti3AlC2 disk sliding against SiC ball from room temperature (RT) to 1,000 °C. The tribological properties are highly dependent of testing temperature. At RT, the coefficient of friction (CoF) is as low as 0.34 in the steady state, but the wear rate is relative high (4.26 × 10?4 mm3/Nm). At 200 and 400 °C, the CoF is as high as 1.21, and the wear rates are very high, about on the order of 10?3 mm3/Nm. From 600 to 1,000 °C, however, Ti3AlC2 exhibits quite low wear rate on the order of 10?6 mm3/Nm and relative moderate CoF, 0.60–0.80. The compacted continuous oxide layer at 600 °C and above might be responsible for the outstanding wear resistance.  相似文献

A Ni3Al matrix high temperature self-lubricating composite Ni3Al-BaF2-CaF2-Ag-Cr was fabricated by the powder metallurgy technique, and tribological behavior at a wide temperature range from room temperature to 800 °C was investigated. The results indicated that the composite exhibited low friction coefficients (0.30-0.36) and wear rates (0.65-2.45×10−4 mm3 N−1 m−1). It was found that the low friction coefficient was attributed to the synergistic effects of Ag, fluorides and chromates formed in the tribo-chemical reaction at high temperatures. The low wear rate of the composite was due to the high strength and the excellent lubricating properties.  相似文献

The material used in this study was a commercial HAYNES® alloy 242? with a nominal composition of Ni‐25% Mo‐8% Cr (in wt.%). In the standard heat treatment, the 242 alloy is annealed at a temperature between 1065 and 1095 °C and then water quenched. The ageing treatment is carried out at 650 °C for 24 h in order to develop the long‐range‐order strengthening. The alloy in the conventionally aged condition was additionally cold rolled to 50% reduction in thickness and subsequently subjected to prolonged ageing at 650 °C for 4000 h. The enhanced diffusion resulted in the decomposition of the Ni2(Mo,Cr) metastable phase into the stable Ni3Mo‐based phase. The presence of the new stable phase increased the yield and tensile strengths but deteriorated the ductility of the alloy at both room and 650 °C temperatures.  相似文献

PM304 composite has been prepared by high-energy ball milling and powder metallurgy. The composition of the PM304 composite is the same as that of PS304, but the microstructure is quite different. The microstructure of PM304 composite was fine and dense, the size of self-lubricating particles in the composite was very small. The tribological properties of PM304 composites against Inconel X-750 were examined in the temperature range from room temperature to 800 °C. The friction coefficient of PM304 was ranged from 0.32 to 0.41. At room temperature, brittle fracture occurred on the worn surface. With the increase of temperature up to 200 °C, a protective layer consisting of fluorides and Ag existed on the worn surface and led to a low wear rate. The wear resistance of the PM304 was superior to that of the PS304 in the temperature range from room temperature to 650 °C. The improvement in wear resistance of the PM304 was discussed in the terms of its microstructural characteristics.  相似文献

Fe–Mo-based self-lubricating composites were prepared by a powder metallurgical hot-pressing method. The tribological properties of Fe–Mo-based composites with varied CaF2 contents at high temperature were evaluated, and the effect of glaze films on the friction and wear characteristics of composites were analyzed. The results show that the introduction of CaF2 into Fe–Mo alloys improved the mechanical properties, and the best tribological properties of Fe–Mo–CaF2 composites were achieved at the CaF2 content of 8 wt% at both room temperature and 600 °C. The worn surface of Fe–Mo–CaF2 composite at 600 °C is characterized to plastic deformation and slight scuffing, and the improved tribological properties are attributed to the formation of lubricious glaze film that composed of high-temperature lubricants CaMoO4 and CaF2 on the worn surface of the composites.  相似文献

Spark-plasma sintering is employed to synthesize self-lubricating ZrO2(Y2O3) matrix composites with different additives of CaF2 and Ag as solid lubricants by tailoring the composition and by adjusting the sintering temperature. The friction and wear behavior of ZrO2(Y2O3) matrix composites have been investigated in dry sliding against an alumina ball from room temperature to 800 °C. The effective self-lubrication at different temperatures depends mainly on the content of various solid lubricants in the composites. The addition of 35 wt.% Ag and 30 wt.% CaF2 in the ZrO2(Y2O3) matrix can promote the formation of a well-covered lubricating film, and effectively reduce the friction and wear over the entire temperature range studied. The friction coefficients at low temperatures were at a minimum value for the composite containing 35 wt.% of silver. At this silver concentration, low and intermediate temperature lubricating properties are greatly improved without affecting high-temperature lubrication by the calcium fluoride in ZrO2(Y2O3) matrix composites. The worn surfaces and transfer films formed during wear process have been characterized to identify the synergistic lubrication behavior of CaF2 and Ag lubricants at different temperatures.  相似文献

NiAl, NiAl–Cr–Mo alloy and NiAl matrix composites with addition of oxides (ZnO/CuO) were fabricated by powder metallurgy route. It was found that some new phases (such as NiZn3, Cu0.81Ni0.19 and Al2O3) are formed during the fabrication process due to a high-temperature solid state reaction. Tribological behavior was studied from room temperature to 1000 °C on an HT-1000 ball-on-disk high temperature tribometer. The results indicated that NiAl had high friction coefficient and wear rate at elevated temperatures, while incorporation of Cr(Mo) not only enhanced mechanical properties evidently but also improved high temperature tribological properties. Among the sintered materials, NiAl matrix composite with addition of ZnO showed the lowest wear rate at 1000 °C, while CuO addition into NiAl matrix composite exhibited the self-lubricating performance and the best tribological properties at 800 °C.  相似文献
