Narrow‐distribution, well‐defined comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers are reported in this work. The copolymers are composed of poly(methyl methacrylate‐co‐2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate) (P(MMA‐co‐HEMA)) as the backbones and poly(2‐(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate) (PDMAEMA) as the grafted chains, with the copolymer backbones being synthesized via atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) and the grafted chains by oxyanionic polymerization. The copolymers were characterized by gel permeation chromatography (GPC), Fourier‐transform infrared (FT‐IR) spectroscopy and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The aggregation behavior in aqueous solutions of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymers was also investigated. 1H NMR spectroscopic and surface tension measurements all indicated that the copolymers could form micelles in aqueous solutions and they possessed high surface activity. The results of dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigations showed that the hydrodynamic diameters of the comb‐like amphiphilic copolymer aggregates increased with dilution. Because of the protonizable properties of the graft chains, the surface activity properties and micellar state can be easily modulated by variations in pH. Poly(methyl methacrylate)‐poly(L ‐lactic acid)‐poly(methyl methacrylate) tri‐block copolymer was prepared using atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). The structure and properties of the copolymer were analyzed using infrared spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, nuclear magnetic resonance (1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR), thermogravimetry, and differential scanning calorimetry. The kinetic plot for the ATRP of methyl methacrylate using poly(L ‐lactic acid) (PLLA) as the initiator shows that the reaction time increases linearly with ln[M]0/[M]. The results indicate that it is possible to achieve grafted chains with well‐defined molecular weights, and block copolymers with narrowed molecular weight distributions. The thermal stability of PLLA is improved by copolymerization. A new wash‐extraction method for removing copper from the ATRP has also exhibits satisfactory results. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) macroazoinitiator was synthesized from bis(hydroxyalkyl)‐terminated PDMS and 4,4′‐azobis‐4‐cyanopentanoic acid by a condensation reaction. The bifunctional macroinitiator was used for the block copolymerization of ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and 2‐(trimethylsilyloxy)ethyl methacrylate (TMSHEMA) monomers. The poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) and poly(DMS‐block‐TMSHEMA) copolymers thus obtained were characterized using Fourier transform infrared and 1H NMR spectroscopy and differential scanning calorimetry. After the deprotection of trimethylsilyl groups, poly(DMS‐block‐HEMA) and poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) copolymer film surfaces were analysed using scanning electron microscopy and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The effects of the PDMS concentration in the copolymers on both air and glass sides of films were examined. The PDMS segments oriented and moved to the glass side in poly(DMS‐block‐EMA) copolymer film while orientation to the air side became evident with increasing DMS content in poly(DMS‐block‐HEMA) copolymer film. The block copolymerization technique described here is a versatile and economic method and is also applicable to a wide range of monomers. The copolymers obtained have phase‐separated morphologies and the effects of DMS segments on copolymer film surfaces are different at the glass and air sides. The synthesis, characterization, and thermal properties of copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and N‐(p‐carboxyphenyl) methacrylamide/acrylamide (CPMA/CPA) are described. The copolymerization was carried out in solution by taking different mole fractions (0.1–0.5) of CPMA/CPA in the initial feed using azobisisobutyronitrile as an initiator and dimethylformamide as a solvent at 60°C. The copolymer composition was determined from 1H‐NMR spectra by taking the ratio of the proton resonance signal due to the  OCH3 of MMA (δ = 3.59 ppm) and the aromatic protons (δ = 7.6–7.8 ppm) of CPMA/CPA. The monomer reactivity ratios of MMA:CPMA and MMA:CPA were determined using the Fineman Ross and Kelen Tudos methods and were found to be 1.32 ± 0.01 [MMA], 1.11 ± 0.02 [CPMA], 2.60 ± 0.01 [MMA], and 0.20 ± 0.01 [CPA]. Incorporation of these comonomers in the MMA backbone resulted in an improvement in the glass‐transition temperature and thermal stability. The percent char also increased with the increase of CPMA/CPA content in the copolymers. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 78: 259–267, 2000  相似文献

Novel amphiphilic ABA‐type poly(D ‐gluconamidoethyl methacrylate)‐b‐polyurethane‐b‐poly(D ‐gluconamidoethyl methacrylate) (PGAMA‐b‐PU‐b‐PGAMA) tri‐block copolymers were successfully synthesized via the combination of the step‐growth and copper‐catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). Dihydroxy polyurethane (HO‐PU‐OH) was synthesized by the step‐growth polymerization of hexamethylene diisocyanate with poly(tetramethylene glycol). PGAMA‐b‐PU‐b‐PGAMA block copolymers were synthesized via copper‐catalyzed ATRP of GAMA in N, N‐dimethyl formamide at 20°C in the presence of 2, 2′‐bipyridyl using Br‐PU‐Br as macroinitiator and characterized by 1H‐NMR spectroscopy and GPC. The resulting block copolymer forms spherical micelles in water as observed in TEM study, and also supported by 1H NMR spectroscopy and light scattering. Miceller size increases with increase in hydrophilic PGAMA chain length as revealed by DLS study. The critical micellar concentration values of the resulting block copolymers increased with the increase of the chain length of the PGAMA block. Thermal properties of these block copolymers were studied by thermo‐gravimetric analysis, and differential scanning calorimetric study. Spherical Ag‐nanoparticles were successfully synthesized using these block copolymers as stabilizer. The dimension of Ag nanoparticle was tailored by altering the chain length of the hydrophilic block of the copolymer. A mechanism has been proposed for the formation of stable and regulated Ag nanoparticle using various chain length of hydrophilic PGAMA block of the tri‐block copolymer. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new photosensitive acrylate monomer having a pendant chlorocinnamoyl moiety (APCSK) was copolymerized with methyl methacrylate (MMA) in different feed compositions in ethyl acetate solution at 70°C using benzoyl peroxide as a free‐radical initiator. The newly synthesized copolymers were characterized by FTIR, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectral techniques, as well as by size‐exclusion chromatography. Their thermal behaviour was assessed by thermogravimetric analysis in air and differential scanning calorimetry under nitrogen atmosphere. The copolymers exhibit no phase separation since there is only one glass transition temperature (Tg) value in the region of copolymer composition studied. The reactivity ratios of the comonomers were calculated by adopting linearization methods such as the Fineman–Ross (F‐R), Kelen–Tudos (K‐T) and extended Kelen–Tudos (ExtK‐T) methods, and by a non‐linear error‐in‐variables model method (EVM) using a computer program (RREVM). The results suggest that MMA is more reactive than APCSK and that their copolymerization leads to the formation of random copolymers. The photosensitivity of the copolymer samples was studied in solution as well as in thin films through UV irradiation. The influence of different factors, including solvent nature, concentration, temperature, photosensitizer and copolymer composition, on the rate of photocrosslinking of the photoreactive copolymers was investigated for effective industrial application of these polymers as negative photoresists. The paper describes the synthesis of block copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and N‐aryl itaconimides using atom‐transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) via a poly(methyl methacrylate)–Cl/CuBr/bipyridine initiating system or a reverse ATRP AIBN/FeCl3·6H2O/PPh3 initiating system. Poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) macroinitiator, ie with a chlorine chain‐end (PMMA‐Cl), having a predetermined molecular weight (Mn = 1.27 × 104 g mol?1) and narrow polydispersity index (PDI = 1.29) was prepared using AIBN/FeCl3·6H2O/PPh3, which was then used to polymerize N‐aryl itaconimides. Increase in molecular weight with little effect on polydispersity was observed on polymerization of N‐aryl itaconimides using the PMMA‐Cl/CuBr/Bpy initiating system. Only oligomeric blocks of N‐aryl itaconimides could be incorporated in the PMMA backbone. High molecular weight copolymer with a narrow PDI (1.43) could be prepared using tosyl chloride (TsCl) as an initiator and CuBr/bipyridine as catalyst when a mixture of MMA and N‐(p‐chlorophenyl) itaconimide in the molar ratio of 0.83:0.17 was used. Thermal characterization was performed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dynamic thermogravimetry. DSC traces of the block copolymers showed two shifts in base‐line in some of the block copolymers; the first transition corresponds to the glass transition temperature of PMMA and second transition corresponds to the glass transition temperature of poly(N‐aryl itaconimides). A copolymer obtained by taking a mixture of monomers ie MMA:N‐(p‐chlorophenyl) itaconimide in the molar ratio of 0.83:0.17 showed a single glass transition temperature. The copolymers containing N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (V) and methyl methacrylate (M) units of different compositions were synthesized by free radical bulk polymerization. The copolymer composition of these copolymers was determined by CHN analysis. The distortionless enhancement by polarization transfer (DEPT) technique was used to resolve the methine, methylene, and methyl resonance signals in the V/M copolymer. Comonomer reactivity ratios were determined by the Kelen–Tudos (KT) and nonlinear least‐square error‐in‐variable (EVM) methods. 1H–13C Heteronuclear shift quantum correlation spectroscopy (HSQC) and 1H–1H homonuclear total correlation spectroscopy (TOCSY) spectra were used for the resolution of the proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectrum of the V/M copolymers. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The article describes the synthesis and characterization of N‐(4‐methoxy‐3‐chlorophenyl) itaconimide (MCPI) and N‐(2‐methoxy‐5‐chlorophenyl) itaconimide (OMCPI) obtained by reacting itaconic anhydride with 4‐methoxy‐3‐chloroanisidine and 2‐methoxy‐5‐chloroanisidine, respectively. Structural and thermal characterization of MCPI and OMCPI monomers was done by using 1H NMR, FTIR, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Copolymerization of MCPI or OMCPI with methyl methacrylate (MMA) in solution was carried out at 60°C using AIBN as an initiator and THF as solvent. Feed compositions having varying mole fractions of MCPI and OMCPI ranging from 0.1 to 0.5 were taken to prepare copolymers. Copolymerizations were terminated at low percentage conversion. Structural characterization of copolymers was done by FTIR, 1H NMR, and elemental analysis and percent nitrogen content was used to calculate the copolymer composition. The monomer reactivity ratios for MMA–MCPI copolymers were found to be r1 (MMA) = 0.32 ± 0.03 and r2 (MCPI) = 1.54 ± 0.05 and that for MMA–OMCPI copolymers were r1 (MMA) = 0.15 ± 0.02 and r2 (OMCPI) = 1.23 ± 0.18. The intrinsic viscosity [η] of the copolymers decreased with increasing mole fraction of MCPI/or OMCPI. The glass transition temperature as determined from DSC scans was found to increase with increasing amounts of OMPCI in copolymers. A significant improvement in the char yield as determined by thermogravimetry was observed upon copolymerization. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 101: 2391–2398, 2006  相似文献

Cellulase was immobilized directly on methyl methacrylate‐glycidyl methacrylate copolymer (MMA‐co‐GMA) and methyl methacrylate‐2‐hydroxy ethyl methacrylate copolymer (MMA‐co‐HEMA) by covalent attachment and crosslinking methods. The properties of the immobilized cellulase were investigated and compared with those of the free one. For the assays carried out through crosslinking method at 25°C and pH 7, the retained activities were found to be 91.92% and 74.63%, respectively, for MMA‐co‐GMA and MMA‐co‐HEMA crosslinked with 0.1% of 1‐cyclohexyl‐3‐(2‐morpholino‐ethyl) carbodiimide metho‐p‐toluenesulfonate (CMCT), respectively. The immobilized cellulase had better stability and higher retained activities with respect to pH, temperature, and storage stability than the free one. In the repeated use experiments, the immobilized cellulase using (MMA‐co‐GMA)‐CMCT (0.1%) and (MMA‐co‐HEMA)‐CMCT (0.1%) did not change after 10 and eight times of repeated use and maintained 67% and 62% from their original activities after 25 times, respectively. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new iodine‐containing methacrylate monomer, 3,4,5‐triiodobenzoyloxyethyl methacrylate (TIBEM), was synthesized by coupling 2‐hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) with 3,4,5‐triiodobenzoic acid. The monomer was characterized by 1H nuclear magnetic resonance, infrared (IR), and ultraviolet spectra. Homopolymerization and copolymerization of the monomer with methyl methacrylate (MMA) were carried out using 2,2′‐azobis isobutyronitrile as the initiator. A terpolymer of TIBEM, MMA, and HEMA was also synthesized. The copolymers were characterized by IR, gel permeation chromatography, differential thermal analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). High molecular weight polymers were produced with MMA at different feed compositions of TIBEM. The polymers were found to be freely soluble in common solvents for acrylic polymers. TGA showed little decomposition of the copolymer below 280°C. Copolymers showed good radiopacity at 25 wt % of TIBEM in the feed. These copolymers could find applications in medical and dental areas where radiopacity is a desirable feature of the implants. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Diblock copolymers of poly(L ‐lactide)‐block‐poly(methyl methacrylate) (PLLA‐b‐PMMA) were synthesized through a sequential two‐step strategy, which combines ring‐opening polymerization (ROP) and atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP), using a bifunctional initiator, 2,2,2‐trichloroethanol. The trichloro‐terminated poly(L ‐lactide) (PLLA‐Cl) with high molecular weight (Mn,GPC = 1–12 × 104 g/mol) was presynthesized through bulk ROP of L ‐lactide (L ‐LA), initiated by the hydroxyl group of the double‐headed initiator, with tin(II) octoate (Sn(Oct)2) as catalyst. The second segment of the block copolymer was synthesized by the ATRP of methyl methacrylate (MMA), with PLLA‐Cl as macroinitiator and CuCl/N,N,N′,N″,N″‐pentamethyldiethylenetriamine (PMDETA) as catalyst, and dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) was chosen as reaction medium due to the poor solubility of the macroinitiator in conventional solvents at the reaction temperature. The trichloroethoxyl terminal group of the macroinitiator was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The comprehensive results from GPC, FTIR, 1H‐NMR analysis indicate that diblock copolymers PLLA‐b‐PMMA (Mn,GPC = 5–13 × 104 g/mol) with desired molecular composition were obtained by changing the molar ratio of monomer/initiator. DSC, XRD, and TG analyses establish that the crystallization of copolymers is inhibited with the introduction of PMMA segment, which will be beneficial to ameliorating the brittleness, and furthermore, to improving the thermal performance. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was employed to prepare graft copolymers having poly(MBr)‐alt‐poly(St) copolymer as backbone and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as branches to obtain heat resistant graft copolymers. The macroinitiator was prepared by copolymerization of bromine functionalized maleimide (MBr) with styrene (St). The polymerization of MMA was initiated by poly(MBr)‐alt‐poly(St) carrying bromine groups as macroinitiator in the presence of copper bromide (CuBr) and bipyridine (bpy) at 110°C. Both macroinitiator and graft copolymers were characterized by 1H NMR, GPC, DSC, and TGA. The ATRP graft copolymerization was supported by an increase in the molecular weight (MW) of the graft copolymers as compared to that of the macroinitiator and also by their monomodal MW distribution. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Defined diblock and triblock copolymers composed of methyl methacrylate‐co‐glycidyl methacrylate block and 3‐{3,5,7,9,11,13,15‐hepta(2‐methylpropyl)‐pentacyclo[9.5.1.13,9.15,15.17,13]‐octasiloxan‐1‐yl}propyl methacrylate block(s), i.e., P(MMA‐co‐GMA)‐b‐PiBuPOSSMA and PiBuPOSSMA‐b‐P(MMA‐co‐GMA)‐b‐PiBuPOSSMA, were synthesized by atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP). First, monofunctional and bifunctional P(MMA‐co‐GMA) copolymers were synthesized by ATRP. Subsequently, these copolymers were successfully used as macroinitiators for ATRP of POSS‐containing methacrylate monomer. The process showed high initiation efficiency of macroinitiators and led to products with low dispersity. The synthesized block copolymers were characterized by size exclusion chromatography, 1H‐NMR spectroscopy and their glass transition temperatures were determined by differential scanning calorimetry. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A new methacrylic monomer, 4‐(2‐thiazolylazo)phenylmethacrylate (TPMA) was synthesized. Copolymerization of the monomer with methyl methacrylate (MMA) was carried out by free radical polymerization in THF solution at 70 ± 0.5°C, using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator. The monomer TPMA and the copolymer poly(TPMA‐co‐MMA) were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and elemental analysis methods. The polydispersity index of the copolymer was determined using gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) of the copolymer performed in nitrogen revealed that the copolymer was stable to 270°C. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the copolymer was higher than that of PMMA. The copolymer with a pendent aromatic heterocyclic group can be dissolved in common organic solvents and shows a good film‐forming ability. Both the monomer TPMA and the copolymer poly (TPMA‐co‐MMA) have bright colors: orange and yellow, respectively. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 2152–2157, 2007  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The properties of copolymers depend strongly on their composition; therefore in order to tailor some for specific applications, it is necessary to control their synthesis, and, in particular, to know the reactivity ratios of their constituent monomers. Free radical copolymerizations of N,N‐dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate (DMAEM) with styrene (ST) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) in toluene solution using 1‐di(tert‐butylperoxy)‐3,3,5‐trimethylcyclohexane as initiator at 70 °C were investigated. Monomer reactivity ratios were determined for low conversions using both linear and nonlinear methods. RESULTS: For the DMAEM/ST system the average values are r1 = 0.43 and r2 = 1.74; for the DMAEM/MMA system the average values are r1 = 0.85 and r2 = 0.86. The initial copolymerization rate, Rp, for DMAEM/ST sharply decreases as the content of ST in the monomer mixture increases up to 30 mol% and then attains a steady value. For the DMAEM/MMA copolymerization system the composition of the feed does not have a significant influence on Rp. The glass transition temperatures (Tg) of the copolymers were determined calorimetrically and calculated using Johnston's sequence length method. A linear dependence of Tg on copolymer composition for both systems is observed: Tg increases with increasing ST or MMA content. CONCLUSION: Copolymerization reactivity ratios enable the design of high‐conversion processes for the production of copolymers of well‐defined properties for particular applications, such as the improvement of rheological properties of lubricating mineral oils. Free‐radical polymerization of p‐cumyl phenyl methacrylate (CPMA) was performed in benzene using bezoyl peroxide as an initiator at 80°C. The effect of time on the molecular weight was studied. Functional copolymers of CPMA and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) with different feed ratios were synthesized by free‐radical polymerization in methyl ethyl ketone at 70°C, and they were characterized by FTIR and 1H‐NMR spectroscopy. The molecular weights and polydispersity indexes of the polymers and copolymers were determined by gel permeation chromatography. The copolymer composition was determined by 1H‐NMR. The glass‐transition temperature of the polymer and the copolymers was determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Free radical copolymerization kinetics of 2‐(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate (DPA) with styrene (ST) or methyl methacrylate (MMA) was investigated and the corresponding copolymers obtained were characterized. Polymerization was performed using tert‐butylperoxy‐2‐ethylhexanoate (0.01 mol dm?3) as initiator, isothermally (70 °C) to low conversions (<10 wt%) in a wide range of copolymer compositions (10 mol% steps). The reactivity ratios of the monomers were calculated using linear Kelen–Tüd?s (KT) and nonlinear Tidwell–Mortimer (TM) methods. The reactivity ratios for MMA/DPA were found to be r1 = 0.99 and r2 = 1.00 (KT), r1 = 0.99 and r2 = 1.03 (TM); for the ST/DPA system r1 = 2.74, r2 = 0.54 (KT) and r1 = 2.48, r2 = 0.49 (TM). It can be concluded that copolymerization of MMA with DPA is ideal while copolymerization of ST with DPA has a small but noticeable tendency for block copolymer building. The probabilities for formations of dyad and triad monomer sequences dependent on monomer compositions were calculated from the obtained reactivity ratios. The molar mass distribution, thermal stability and glass transition temperatures of synthesized copolymers were determined. Hydrophobicity of copolymers depending on the composition was determined using contact angle measurements, decreasing from hydrophobic polystyrene and poly(methyl methacrylate) to hydrophilic DPA. Copolymerization reactivity ratios are crucial for the control of copolymer structural properties and conversion heterogeneity that greatly influence the applications of copolymers as rheology modifiers of lubricating oils or in drug delivery systems. © 2015 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Copolymerizations of methyl methacrylate (MMA) with 4‐vinylpyridine (4VP) were performed from different monomer feed ratios in 1,4‐dioxan at 30°C under free radical initiation experimental conditions, using Ni(II)α‐Benzoinoxime complex as initiator. The obtained copolymers (PMMA4VP) were examined by FTIR and 1H NMR spectroscopies. The composition of these copolymers was calculated, using 1H NMR spectra and elemental analysis. Monomer reactivity ratios were estimated from Fineman–Ross (FR, rm = 0.550, rv = 1.165) and Kelen–Tudos (KT, rm = 0.559, rv = 1.286) linearization methods, as well as nonlinear error in variables model (EVM) method using the RREVM computer program (RREVM, rm = 0.559, rv = 1.264). These values suggest that MMA‐4VP pair copolymerizes randomly. 1H NMR spectra provide information about the stereochemistry of the copolymers in terms of sequence distributions and configurations. These results showed that the age of the Ni complex has an impact not only on its activity towards polymerization reactions but also on the features of the corresponding copolymers, whereas the chemical composition was insensitive to this prominent factor. The mechanism of MMA‐4VP copolymerization is consistent with a radical process as supported by microstructure and molecular weight distribution studies. Thermal behaviours of these copolymers were investigated by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2008  相似文献

Copolymers of poly(acrylonitrile‐co‐ethyl methacrylate), P(AN‐EMA), with three different EMA content and parent homopolymers were synthesized by emulsion polymerization. The chemical composition of copolymers were identified by FTIR, 1H‐NMR and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy. The thermal properties of copolymers were modified by changing the EMA content in copolymer compositions. Various amounts of LiClO4 salt loaded (PAN‐co‐PEMA) copolymer films were prepared by solution casting. The dielectric properties of these films at different temperatures and frequencies were investigated. It was found that the dielectric constant and ac‐conductivity of copolymer films were strongly influenced by the salt amounts and EMA content in copolymers. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
