Precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) and chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) were used to fabricate SiC/SiC composites on a four-step 3D SiC fibre preform deposited with a pyrolytic carbon interface. The effects of fabrication processes on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the SiC/SiC composites were studied. Results showed the presence of irregular cracks in the matrix of the SiC/SiC composites prepared through PIP, and the crystal structure was amorphous. The room temperature flexural strength and modulus were 873.62 MPa and 98.16 GPa, respectively. The matrix of the SiC/SiC composites prepared through CVI was tightly bonded without cracks, the crystal structure had high crystallinity, and the room temperature bending strength and modulus were 790.79 MPa and 150.32 GPa, respectively. After heat treatment at 1300 °C for 50 h, the flexural strength and modulus retention rate of the SiC/SiC composites prepared through PIP were 50.01% and 61.87%, and those of the composites prepared through CVI were 99.24% and 96.18%, respectively. The mechanism of the evolution of the mechanical properties after heat treatment was examined, and the analysis revealed that it was caused by the different fabrication processes of the SiC matrix. After heat treatment, the SiC crystallites prepared through PIP greatly increased, and the SiOxCy in the matrix decomposed to produce volatile gases SiO and/or CO, ultimately leading to an increase in the number of cracks and porosity in the material and a decrease in the material load-bearing capacity. However, the size of the SiC crystallites prepared through CVI hardly changed, the SiC matrix was tightly bonded without cracks, and the load-bearing capacity only slightly changed.  相似文献

Pitch-based carbon fibers were assembled in horizontal and thickness directions of SiC/SiC composites to form three-dimensional heat conduction networks. The effects of heat conduction networks on microstructures, mechanics, and thermal conductivities were investigated. The results revealed the benefit of introducing heat conduction networks in the densification of composites. The maximum bending strength and interlaminar shear strength of the modified composites reached 568.67 MPa and 68.48 MPa, respectively. These values were equivalent to 18.6% and 69.4% increase compared to those of composites without channels. However, channels in thickness direction destroyed the continuity of fibers and matrix, creating numerous defects. As the volume fraction of heat conduction channels rose, the pinning strengthening effect of channels and influence of defects competed with each other to result in first enhanced mechanical properties followed by a decline. The in-plane thermal conductivity was found anisotropic with a maximum value reaching 86.20 W/(m·K) after introducing pitch-based carbon unidirectional tapes. The thermal conductivity in thickness direction increased with volume fraction of pitch-based carbon fibers and reached 19.13 W/(m·K) at 3.87 vol% pitch-based carbon fibers in the thickness direction. This value was 90.75% higher than that of composites without channels.  相似文献

Three types of SiCf/SiC composites with a four-step three-dimensional SiC fibre preform and pyrocarbon interface fabricated via precursor infiltration and pyrolysis at 1100 °C, 1300 °C, and 1500 °C were heat-treated at 1300 °C under argon atmosphere for 50 h. The effects of the pyrolysis temperature on the microstructural and mechanical properties of the SiCf/SiC composites were studied. With an increase in the pyrolysis temperature, the SiC crystallite size of the as-fabricated composites increased from 3.4 to 6.4 nm, and the flexural strength decreased from 742 ± 45 to 467 ± 38 MPa. After heat treatment, all the samples exhibited lower mechanical properties, accompanied by grain growth, mass loss, and the formation of open pores. The degree of mechanical degradation decreased with an increase in the pyrolysis temperature. The composites fabricated at 1500 °C exhibited the highest property retention rates with 90% flexural strength and 98% flexural modulus retained. The mechanism of the mechanical evolution after heat treatment was revealed, which suggested that the thermal stability of the mechanical properties is enhanced by the high crystallinity of the SiC matrix after pyrolysis at higher temperatures.  相似文献

In order to improve the mechanical properties, vertically aligned carbon nanotubes (VACNTs) were in situ introduced on the pyrocarbon (PyC) interfaces of the multilayer preform via chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process under tailored parameters. Chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) process was then employed to densify the multilayer preform to acquire SiC/SiC composites. The results show that the growth of VACNTs on PyC interface is highly dependent to the deposition temperature, time and constituent of gas during CVD process. The preferred orientation and high graphitization of VACNTs were obtained when temperature is 800?℃ and C2H4/H2 ratio is 1:3. The bending strength and fracture toughness of SiC/SiC composites with PyC and PyC-VACNTs interfaces were compared. Compared to the SiC/SiC composite with PyC interface, the bending strength and fracture toughness increase 1.298 and 1.359 times, respectively after the introduction of PyC-VACNTs interface to the SiC/SiC composites. It is also demonstrated that the modification of PyC interface with VACNTs enhances the mechanical properties of SiC/SiC composites due to the occurrence of more fiber pull-outs, interfacial debonding, crack branching and deflection  相似文献

Alternating pyrolytic carbon/boron nitride (PyC/BN)n multilayer coatings were applied to the KD–II silicon carbide (SiC) fibres by chemical vapour deposition technique to fabricate continuous SiC fibre-reinforced SiC matrix (SiCf/SiC) composites with improved flexural strength and fracture toughness. Three-dimensional SiCf/SiC composites with different interfaces were fabricated by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis process. The microstructure of the coating was characterised by scanning electron microscopy, X–photoelectron spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The interfacial shear strength was determined by the single-fibre push-out test. Single-edge notched beam (SENB) test and three-point bending test were used to evaluate the influence of multilayer interfaces on the mechanical properties of SiCf/SiC composites. The results indicated that the (PyC/BN)n multilayer interface led to optimum flexural strength and fracture toughness of 566.0?MPa and 21.5?MPa?m1/2, respectively, thus the fracture toughness of the composites was significantly improved.  相似文献

Unidirectional (UD) silicon carbide (SiC) fiber-reinforced SiC matrix (UD SiCf/SiC) composites with CVI BN interphase were fabricated by polymer infiltration-pyrolysis (PIP) process. The effects of the anisotropic distribution of SiC fibers on the mechanical properties, thermophysical properties and electromagnetic properties of UD SiCf/SiC composites in different directions were studied. In the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers bear the load and BN interphase ensures the interface debonding, so the flexural strength and the fracture toughness of the UD SiCf/SiC composites are 813.0 ± 32.4 MPa and 26.1 ± 2.9 MPa·m1/2, respectively. In the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers, SiC fibers cannot bear the load and the low interfacial bonding strengths between SiC fiber/BN interphase (F/I) and BN interphase/SiC matrix (I/M) both decrease the matrix cracking stress, so the corresponding values are 36.6 ± 6.9 MPa and 0.9 ± 0.5 MPa?m1/2, respectively. The thermal expansion behaviors of UD SiCf/SiC composites are similar to those of SiC fibers in the direction parallel to the axial direction of SiC fibers, and are similiar to those of SiC matrix in the direction perpendicular to the axial direction of SiC fibers. The total electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EM SET) of UD SiCf/SiC composites attains 32 dB and 29 dB when the axial direction of SiC fibers is perpendicular and parallel to the electric field direction, respectively. The difference of conductivity in different directions is the main reason causing the different SET. And the dominant electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding mechanism is absorption for both studied directions.  相似文献

In this study, SiC interphase was prepared via a precursor infiltration-pyrolysis process, and effects of dipping concentrations on the mechanical, high-temperature dielectric and microwave absorption properties of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites had been investigated. Results indicated that different dipping concentrations influenced ultimate interfacial morphology. The SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution was smooth and homogeneous, and no bridging between the fiber monofilament could be observed. At the same time, SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution had significantly improved mechanical properties of the composite. In particular, the flexural strength of the composite prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution reached 281 MPa. Both ε′ and ε′′ of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites were enhanced after preparing SiC interphase at room temperature. The SiCf/SiC/Mu composite prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution showed the maximum dielectric loss value of 0.38 at 10 GHz. Under the dual action of polarization mechanism and conductance loss, both ε′ and ε′′ of the SiCf/SiC/Mu composites enhanced as the temperature increased. At 700 °C, the corresponding bandwidth (RL ≤ ?5 dB) of SiCf/SiC/Mu composites prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution can reach 3.3 GHz at 2.6 mm. The SiCf/SiC/Mu composite with SiC interphase prepared with 5 wt% PCS/xylene solution is expected to be an excellent structural-functional material.  相似文献

Si3N4/SiC reaction-bonded SiC refractories have been fabricated on the basis of the microstructure design concept by introducing a binary-phases binding system. The influence of Si/C molar ratio on phase transformation, microstructure and mechanical properties was studied systematically. Thermodynamic analysis result proved the microstructure design was feasible under 0.03 MPa pressure of N2 and the selected sintering temperature. In-situ grown SiC nano-whiskers/granule and lamellar Si3N4 were both observed in the matrix. The specimen with 2:1 Si/C molar ratio possessed highest cold modulus of rupture (28.27 MPa) but showed low toughness. The strength and toughness of such materials were controlled by two main factors, such as SiC grain boundary binding morphology and in situ grown of SiC in the matrix. The different mechanisms occurred predominantly to meet diverse practical cases and caused to various mechanical properties of final products. The corresponding strengthening and toughening mechanisms were explained in this paper.  相似文献

C/C-SiC composites were fabricated by a combined process of chemical vapor deposition (CVD), slurry infiltration(SI), and precursor infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP). The microstructure and mechanical behavior were investigated for the dense C/C-SiC composites before and after high-temperature heat treatment. The results indicated that the sintering of the SiC matrix and the migration of the SiC matrix/fiber bundles weak interface occurred after high-temperature heat treatment at 1900 ℃. The SiC sintering resulted in an increase in the flexural strength of the C/C-SiC composites from 298.9 ± 35.0 MPa to 411.1 ± 57.3 MPa. The migration of the weak interface changed the direction of crack propagation, making the fracture toughness of the C/C-SiC composites decrease from 13.3 ± 1.7 MPa⋅m 1/2 to 9.02 ± 1.5 MPa⋅m 1/2.  相似文献

In carbon/carbon (C/C) composites, SiC/PyC core-shell structure nanowires were successfully fabricated via chemical liquid-vapor deposition (CLVD). The influences of heat-treatment temperature on the microstructure and composition of SiC nanowires were studied, and meanwhile the growth mechanism of SiC nanowires was discussed. Additionally, the microstructure and morphology of SiC/PyC core-shell structure nanowires were also investigated. The results displayed that the low heat-treatment temperature could not meet the requirements of SiC nanowires growth, but the too high temperature made the nanowires appear agglomerate easily. Only when the heat-treatment temperature was 1800 °C, SiC nanowires possessed a uniform distribution. The diameter of SiC nanowire was about 300 nm, and there was a SiO2 layer with the thickness of about 1 nm existing on the surface of SiC nanowire. The growth behavior of SiC nanowire was governed by vapor-solid (V–S) mechanism. After the PyC deposition, SiC/PyC core-shell structure nanowires were constructed, and the nanowires were about 450 nm in diameter. These nanowires displayed a core-shell structure with three layers, which were SiC nanowire core, SiO2 interlayer and PyC shell, respectively. Meanwhile, SiC/PyC core-shell structure nanowires connected the matrices with each other, and the core-shell structure nanowires generated a stable network.  相似文献

In this work, Amosic-3 SiC/SiC composites were irradiated to 10 dpa and 115 dpa with 300 keV Si ions at 300 °C. To evaluate its irradiation behaviour and investigate the underlying mechanism, nanoindentation, AFM, Raman and electron microscopy were utilized. Nanoindentation showed that although micromechanical properties declined after irradiation, hardness and Young’s modulus were maintained better under 115 dpa. AFM manifested differential swelling among PyC interface, fiber and matrix and SEM showed irradiation-induced partial interface debonding, which are both more obvious under 115 dpa. TEM revealed the generation and proliferation of amorphous regions, which is according with the decline and broadening of peaks in Raman spectra. The material was almost completely amorphous after irradiated to 10 dpa while recrystallization occurred under 115 dpa. All results mentioned above contribute to the decline of hardness and Young’s modulus and may explain why the micromechanical degradation was more significant under 10 dpa.  相似文献

SiC/SiC composites prepared by liquid silicon infiltration (LSI) have the advantages of high densification, matrix cracking stress and ultimate tensile strength, but the toughness is usually insufficient. Relieving the residual microstress in fiber and interphase, dissipating crack propagation energy, and improving the crystallization degree of interphase can effectively increase the toughness of the composites. In this work, a special SiC particles and C (SiCP +C) double-cladding layer is designed and prepared via the infiltration of SiCP slurry and chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) of C in the porous SiC/SiC composites prepared by CVI. After LSI, the SiC generated by the reaction of C with molten Si combines with the SiCP to form a layered structure matrix, which can effectually relieve residual microstress in fiber and interphase and dissipate crack propagation energy. The crystallization degree of BN interphase is increased under the effects of C-Si reaction exotherm. The as-received SiC/SiC composites possess a density of 2.64 g/cm3 and a porosity of 6.1%. The flexural strength of the SiC/SiC composites with layered structure matrix and highly crystalline BN interphase is 577 MPa, and the fracture toughness reaches up to 37 MPa·m1/2. The microstructure and properties of four groups of SiC/SiC composites prepared by different processes are also investigated and compared to demonstrate the effectiveness of the SiCP +C double-cladding layer design, which offers a strategy for developing the SiC/SiC composites with high performance.  相似文献

A fine study of the interfacial part in the silicon carbide fiber (SiCf) reinforced silicon carbide (SiC) composites was conducted by transmission electron microscopy. The boron nitride (BN) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were progressively coated on the SiCf by chemical vapor deposition method to form a hierarchical structure. Three composites with different interfaces, SiCf–CNTs/SiC, SiCf@BN/SiC, and SiCf@BN–CNTs/SiC, were fabricated by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis method. The interfaces and microstructures of the three composites were carefully characterized to investigate the improvement mechanism of strength and toughness. The results showed that BN could protect the surface of SiCf from corrosion and oxidation so that improved the possibility of debonding and pullout. CNTs could avoid the propagation of cracks in the composites so that improved the damage resistance of the matrix. The synergistic reinforcement brought by BN and CNTs interfaces made the SiCf@BN–CNTs/SiC composites with a tensile fracture strength as high as 359 MPa, with an improvement of 23% compared to that of SiCf@BN/SiC.  相似文献

The in-situ SiC whisker and SiC particle composites were prepared by selective laser sintering (SLS) technology, and the longitudinal and transverse growth rates of crystal nuclei at the liquid-solid interface were calculated and analyzed under the traditional vapor-liquid-solid mechanism. A mathematical model of holding time on the number of in-Situ SiC whisker growth was established, and the prediction rate was 95%. The mechanical properties of in-situ SiC whisker and pure SiC samples with similar volume densities were calculated. The results showed that: The longitudinal growth rate of crystal nuclei at the liquid-solid interface was higher than the transverse growth rate. After precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP) four-cycle treatment, the fracture toughness per unit volume density of B-1, B-2, and B-3 specimens increased by 198.66%, 225.00%, and 221.05%, respectively, compared with pure SiC specimens, indicating that this method has a vital role in increasing the toughness of SiC ceramics.  相似文献

A layered filler consisting of Ti3SiC2-SiC whiskers and TiC transition layer was used to join SiCf/SiC. The effects of SiCw reinforcement in Ti3SiC2 filler were examined after joining at 1400 or 1500 °C in terms of the microstructural evolution, joining strength, and oxidation/chemical resistances. The TiC transition layer formed by an in-situ reaction of Ti coating resulted in a decrease in thermal expansion mismatch between SiCf/SiC and Ti3SiC2, revealing a sound joint without cracks formation. However, SiCf/SiC joint without TiC layer showed formation of cracks and low joining strength. The incorporation of SiCw in Ti3SiC2 filler showed an increase in joining strength, oxidation, and chemical etching resistance due to the strengthening effect. The Ti3SiC2 filler containing 10 wt.% SiCw along with the formation of TiC was the optimal condition for joining of SiCf/SiC at 1400 °C, showing the highest joining strength of 198 MPa as well as improved oxidation and chemical resistance.  相似文献

SiC-nanowire-reinforced SiCf/SiC composites were successfully fabricated through an in situ growth of SiC nanowires on SiC fibres via chemical vapour infiltration. The dielectric and microwave absorption properties of the composites were investigated within the frequency range of 8.2–12.4 GHz at 25–600 °C. The electric conductivity and complex permittivity of the composites displayed evident temperature-dependent behaviour and were enhanced with increasing temperature. The composites exhibited superior microwave absorption abilities with a minimum reflection loss value of ?47.5 dB at 11.4 GHz and an effective bandwidth of 2.8 GHz at 600 °C. Apart from the contribution of the interconnected SiC nanowire network and multiple reflections, the excellent microwave absorption performance was attributed to dielectric loss that originated from SiC nanowires with abundant stacking faults and heterostructure interfaces. Results suggested that the composites are promising candidates for high-temperature microwave absorbing materials.  相似文献

The effects of TaSi2 addition on the room temperature mechanical properties of ZrB2–20SiC (volume fraction, %) composite were investigated. Dense ZrB2–20SiC-xTaSi2 (x?=?3, 6, 10) composites were prepared by hot pressing the mixture of ZrB2, SiC and TaSi2 powders at 1850–1900?°C under 30?MPa in flowing Ar. In the as-prepared composites, apart from ZrB2, SiC and TaSi2, (Zr,Ta)B2 solid solution also existed around ZrB2 grains. It became a continuous layer and the thickness increased gradually with the increase of TaSi2 content. When the addition of TaSi2 was within the range of 3–10%, Vickers hardness of ZrB2–20SiC reduced slightly by about 1–2?GPa, but the flexural strength and fracture toughness increased simultaneously by more than 35%. These phenomena could be attributed to the relatively low hardness of TaSi2, and the decrease of ZrB2 grain size as well as the presence of a continuous (Zr,Ta)B2 solid solution layer around ZrB2 grains.  相似文献

Electrospun unidirectional SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites (e-SiCf/SiC) were prepared with ∼10% volume fraction by polymer infiltration and pyrolysis (PIP) process. Pyrolysis temperature was varied to investigate the changes in microstructures, mechanical, thermal, and dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites. The composites prepared at 1100 °C exhibit the highest flexural strength of 286.0 ± 33.9 MPa, then reduced at 1300 °C, mainly due to the degradation of electrospun SiC fibers, increased porosity, and reaction-controlled interfacial bonding. The thermal conductivity of e-SiCf/SiC prepared at 1300 °C reached 2.663 W/(m∙K). The dielectric properties of e-SiCf/SiC composites were also investigated and the complex permittivities increase with raising pyrolysis temperature. The e-SiCf/SiC composites prepared at 1300 °C exhibited EMI shielding effectiveness exceeding 24 dB over the whole X band. The electrospun SiC fibers reinforced SiCf/SiC composites can serve as a potential material for structural components and EMI shielding applications in the future.  相似文献

In this study, SiC nanowires (SiCNWS) were grown in situ on the surface of PyC interface through chemical vapor infiltration (CVI) to improve the mechanical characteristics and thermal conductivity of three-dimensional SiCf/SiC composites fabricated via precursor infiltration pyrolysis (PIP). The effect of SiCNWS on the properties of the obtained composites was investigated by comparing them with conventional SiCf/PyC/SiC composites. After the deposition of SiCNWS, the flexural strength of the SiCf/SiC composites was found to increase by 46 %, and the thermal conductivity showed an obvious increase at 25?1000 °C. The energy release of the composites in the damage evolution process was analysed by acoustic emission. The results indicated that the damage evolution process was delayed owing to the decrease in porosity, the crack deflection and bridging of the SiCNWS. Furthermore, the excellent thermal conductivity was attributed to the thermally conductive pathways formed by the SiCNWS in the dense structure.  相似文献

SiCf/SiC composites using KD-I and KD-II SiC fibers braided preforms as the reinforcements were fabricated by applying the polymer impregnation and pyrolysis (PIP) technique with a microwave heating assistance. The microwave heating temperature was 1100 °C, 1200 °C, 1300 °C, and 1400 °C, respectively. Microstructures, flexure properties, and fracture behaviors of the composites were investigated. The KDIISiCf/SiC composites exhibited higher flexure properties and improved non-brittle fracture characteristics than those of the KD-ISiCf/SiC composites. The differences in the flexural properties, fracture behaviors and microstructures between the KD-I and KDIISiCf/SiC composites were discussed based on the tensile properties of the SiC filaments and the interfacial bonding statues in the composites.  相似文献
