High-entropy fluorite oxides   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Eleven fluorite oxides with five principal cations (in addition to a four-principal-cation (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25Y0.25)O2-δ as a start point and baseline) were fabricated via high-energy ball milling, spark plasma sintering, and annealing in air. Eight of the compositions, namely (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25Y0.25)O2-δ, (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25)(Y0.125Yb0.125)O2-δ, (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ce0.2)(Y0.2Yb0.2)O2-δ, (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25)(Y0.125Ca0.125)O2-δ, (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25)(Y0.125Gd0.125)O2-δ, (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ce0.2)(Y0.2Gd0.2)O2-δ, (Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25)(Yb0.125Gd0.125)O2-δ, and (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ce0.2)(Yb0.2Gd0.2)O2-δ, possess single-phase solid solutions of the fluorite crystal structure with high configurational entropies (on the cation sublattices), akin to those high-entropy alloys and ceramics reported in prior studies. Most high-entropy fluorite oxides (HEFOs), except for the two containing both Yb and Gd, can be sintered to high relative densities. These single-phase HEFOs exhibit lower electrical conductivities and comparable hardness (even with higher contents of softer components such as Y2O3 and Yb2O3), in comparison with 8?mol. % Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2 (8YSZ). Notably, these single-phase HEFOs possess lower thermal conductivities than that of 8YSZ, presumably due to high phonon scattering by multiple cations and strained lattices.  相似文献

Thermal barrier coatings are an effective technology for improving the high-temperature performance of hot section components in gas turbine engine. Due to their excellent properties, high-entropy oxides are considered to be promising materials for thermal barrier coatings. Laser cladding is a coating preparation technology and the top coat prepared by laser cladding technology has an important application value for thermal barrier coatings. In this work, to improve the thermal cycling behavior of the La2(Ti0.2Zr0.2Sn0.2Ce0.2Hf0.2)2O7 high-entropy oxide coating, a bi-layer coating with the La2(Ti0.2Zr0.2Sn0.2Ce0.2Hf0.2)2O7 high-entropy oxide layer and the YSZ layer was designed and fabricated by laser cladding on the NiCoCrAlY alloy surface. The microstructure, phase and mechanical properties of the coating were analyzed by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and micro-hardness and nanoindentation tests, respectively. The results show that a bi-layer La2(Ti0.2Zr0.2Sn0.2Ce0.2Hf0.2)2O7/YSZ coating was successfully prepared by the laser cladding method, and shows good bonding at the interface between the layers. The high-entropy oxide layer maintains a relatively stable defective fluorite structure and its microstructure exists in the stable cellular and dendrite crystalline state after laser cladding. The high-entropy oxide layer prepared by laser cladding showed an average elastic modulus of 167 GPa and an average hardness of 1022.8HV in nanoindentation tests. Thermal cycling of the coating was carried out at 1050 °C. Failure of the bi-layer coating occurred after 60 thermal cycles at 1050 °C. Thermal stresses between different layers are calculated during thermal cycling. Due to its excellent mechanical properties, the bi-layer coating with the La2(Ti0.2Zr0.2Sn0.2Ce0.2Hf0.2)2O7 high-entropy oxide and YSZ layers is expected to become an effective high-entropy oxide thermal barrier coating.  相似文献

High-entropy ceramics exhibit great application potential as thermal barrier coating (TBC) materials. Herein, a series of novel high-entropy ceramics with RE2(Ce0.2Zr0.2Hf0.2Sn0.2Ti0.2)2O7 (RE2HE2O7, RE = Y, Ho, Er, or Yb) compositions were fabricated via a solid-state reaction. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and energy dispersive spectrometry (EDS) mapping analyses confirmed that RE2HE2O7 formed a single defect fluorite structure with uniform elemental distribution. The thermophysical properties of the RE2HE2O7 ceramics were investigated systematically. The results show that RE2HE2O7 ceramics have excellent high-temperature phase stability, high thermal expansion coefficients (10.3–11.7 × 10?6 K-1, 1200 ℃), and low thermal conductivities (1.10-1.37 W m-1 K-1, 25 ℃). In addition, RE2HE2O7 ceramics have a high Vickers hardness (13.7–15.0 GPa) and relatively low fracture toughness (1.14-1.27 MPa m0.5). The outstanding properties of the RE2HE2O7 ceramics indicate that they could be candidates for the next generation of TBC materials.  相似文献

Five equimolar multicomponent oxides were synthesized by replacing one of five cations in (Ce0.2Zr0.2Ti0.2Sn0.2Hf0.2)O2 with Ca2+. The results reveal that except for the one in which Ce4+ replaced by Ca2+, the other four components can form single-phase high-entropy fluorite oxides (HEFOs) at different temperatures, which indicates that Ce4+ is very important for the formation of single-phase HEFOs. The sintering behavior, lattice parameter and properties containing density, porosity, flexural strength and thermal conductivity of the four single-phase HEFOs were investigated. With the change of substituted ions, grain size, relative density, flexural strength and thermal conductivity of the materials vary greatly, which are correlated to the size disorder and mass disorder of these materials. The results of this paper provide a reference for the composition designing and performance tailoring of equimolar HEFOs.  相似文献

The (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 (x = 0–0.5) high-entropy ceramics were successfully prepared by a solid state reaction method and their structures and thermo-physical properties were investigated. It was found that the high-entropy ceramics demonstrate pure pyrochlore phase with the composition of x = 0.1–0.5, while (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2Zr2O7 shows the defective fluorite structure. The sintered high-entropy ceramics are dense and the grain boundaries are clean. The grain size of high-entropy ceramics increases with the Ti4+ content. The average thermal expansion coefficients of the (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 high-entropy ceramics range from 10.65 × 10?6 K?1 to 10.84 × 10?6 K?1. Importantly, the substitution of Zr4+ with Ti4+ resulted in a remarkable decrease in thermal conductivity of (La0.2Gd0.2Y0.2Yb0.2Er0.2)2(Zr1-xTix)2O7 high-entropy ceramics. It reduced from 1.66 W m?1 K?1 to 1.20 W m?1 K?1, which should be ascribed to the synergistic effects of mass disorder, size disorder, mixed configuration entropy value and rattlers.  相似文献

An entropy-stabilized rare earth hafnate (Y0.2Dy0.2Er0.2Tm0.2Yb0.2)4Hf3O12 (5RH) with defective fluorite structure was successfully prepared by the emerging ultrafast high-temperature sintering (UHS) in less than six minutes. The 5RH ceramic possessed a higher thermal expansion coefficient (11.23 ×10?6/K, 1500 °C) and extremely low thermal conductivity (0.94 W/(m·k), 1300 ℃) owing to the larger lattice distortion of high-entropy materials. After high-temperature annealing at 1500 ℃, the 5RH showed extremely sluggish grain growth characteristics and excellent high-temperature phase stability, mainly attributed to the non-equilibrium sintering characteristic of the UHS and the sluggish diffusion effect of high-entropy materials. Therefore, (Y0.2Dy0.2Er0.2Tm0.2Yb0.2)4Hf3O12 has excellent potential as a next-generation thermal barrier coating material to replace traditional Y2O3 stabilized ZrO2. Finally, using the UHS to prepare high-entropy ceramics provides a new technique for fast-sintering and developing next-generation thermal barrier coating materials.  相似文献

In this work, a novel high-entropy n-type thermoelectric material Sr0.9La0.1(Zr0.25Sn0.25Ti0.25Hf0.25)O3 with pure perovskite phase was prepared using a conventional solid state processing route. The results of TEM and XPS show that various types of crystal defects and lattice distortions, such as oxygen vacancies, edge dislocations, in-phase rotations of octahedron and antiparallel cation displacements coexist in this high-entropy ceramic. At 873 K, the high-entropy ceramics showed both a low thermal conductivity (1.89 W/m/K) and a high Seebeck coefficient (393 μV/K). This work highlights a way to obtain high-performance perovskite-type oxide thermoelectric materials through high-entropy composition design.  相似文献

High-entropy oxides Hf0.25Zr0.25Ce0.25Gd0.125X0.125O2-δ (X = Ca, Ti or Si) have been fabricated via solid-state reactions, in which the co-stabiliser X was intentionally chosen for its significant atomic mass and size difference from Gd. The single phase of these cubic fluorite oxides with dense microstructures has been confirmed by XRD, EDS and TEM characterizations. These phases are thermally stable without the appearance of secondary phase and phase separation within the temperature range studied (up to 1200 °C). Compared to yttria-stabilised zirconia (YSZ), which is used in the current commercial thermal barrier coatings, these fluorite oxides have higher coefficients of thermal expansion and lower thermal conductivities. They also exhibit comparable Young’s modulus and hardness with other reported high-entropy fluorite oxides. The fluorite oxides reported in this study are promising to improve the thermal expansion matching between ceramic topcoat and metal substrates for thermal barrier coating applications.  相似文献

A series of high-entropy ceramics (HECs) with compositions of La0·2Ce0.2Nd0.2(ZrxY1−x)0.4O2−δ (x = 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8, 0.9 and 1.0, the corresponding names being HEC(Zr0·5/Y0.5, Zr0·6/Y0.4, Zr0·7/Y0.3, Zr0·8/Y0.2, Zr0·9/Y0.1, Zr1·0/Y0)) were sintered in air at 1600 °C for 10 h. When x is in the range of 0.5–0.7, a fluorite phase is formed. Then, as x exceeds 0.7, a second pyrochlore-structured phase appears, and its content gradually increases with the increasing x. The grain growth of the samples is inhibited by increasing in the relative Zr content. The grain refinement and the formation of second phase reduce the thermal conductivity and reinforce the mechanical properties of the samples. HEC(Zr0.9/Y0.1) has the lowest thermal conductivity (50–500 °C) and brittleness index, as well as the highest fracture toughness among all samples. In addition, La0·2Ce0.2Nd0.2(ZrxY1−x)0.4O2−δ ceramics have excellent thermal stability under Ar atmosphere in 50–1400 °C. The thermal expansion coefficients of the samples marginally change regardless of the variation in x. All samples show higher oxygen barrier property than Y2O3-stabilized ZrO2.  相似文献

High-performance ceramics with low thermal conductivity, high mechanical properties, and idea thermal expansion coefficients have important applications in fields such as turbine blades and automotive engines. Currently, the thermal conductivity of ceramics has been significantly reduced by local doping/substitution or further high-entropy reconfiguration of the composition, but the mechanical properties, especially the fracture toughness, are insufficient and still need to be improved. In this work, based on the high-entropy titanate pyrochlore, TiO2 was introduced for composite toughening and the high-entropy (Ho0.2Y0.2Dy0.2Gd0.2Eu0.2)2Ti2O7-xTiO2 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 1.0 and 2.0) composites with high hardness (16.17 GPa), Young's modulus (289.3 GPa) and fracture toughness (3.612 MPa·m0.5), low thermal conductivity (1.22 W·m−1·K−1), and thermal expansion coefficients close to the substrate material (9.5 ×10−6/K) were successfully prepared by the solidification method. The fracture toughness of the composite toughened sample is 2.25 times higher than that before toughening, which exceeds most of the current low-thermal conductivity ceramics.  相似文献

A novel (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)C high-entropy ceramic was successfully prepared by pressureless sintering at 2200 °C. With increasing content of resin-derived-carbon, the density, and mechanical and thermal properties increased up to a maximum content of 2~4 wt% resin addition, after which further addition was detrimental. All specimens showed high strength (≥347±36 MPa), with the highest value achieving 450±64 MPa, and fracture toughness significantly higher (>20 %) than those of the corresponding monocarbides and Ta0.5Hf0.5C, (Ta1/3Zr1/3Nb1/3)C. The thermal conductivity was approximately equivalent to the lowest value of the corresponding mono-carbides, which was assumed to be due to the lattice distortion effect.  相似文献

Pursuing novel thermal barrier–coating materials with lower thermal conductivity and high-temperature stability can simultaneously improve the working efficiency and service temperature of a gas turbine. In this study, a series of high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 (RE = La, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, and Er) oxides were prepared though solid-state reaction. Through tuning the rare-earth cations, an order–disorder transition occurs from certain partially ordered weberite structure (C2221) to disordered defective fluorite structure (Fm3¯ $\bar{3}$m). All the high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 oxides possess low thermal conductivity in the range of 0.91–1.34 W m−1 K−1 at room temperature, which can be attributed to increased lattice anharmonicity and disorder, resulting in additional phonon scattering. Herein, we proved that the incorporation of heterovalent cations at B-sites in high-entropy A2B2O7 crystals is an effective strategy to reduce the thermal conductivity without compromising the decrease of oxygen vacancy. Moreover, the high-entropy RE2(Y0.2Yb0.2Nb0.2Ta0.2Ce0.2)2O7 oxides show the relatively higher thermal expansion coefficients of 10.3–10.7 × 10−6°C−1 and excellent phase stability at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

We report a double-ceramic-layer (DCL) thermal barrier coating (TBC) with high-entropy rare-earth zirconate (HE-REZ) as the top layer and yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) as the inner layer sprayed on Ni-based superalloy by atmospheric plasma spraying. La2Zr2O7 (LZ) was selected as a reference for the HE-REZ. Thermal cycling test results demonstrate that the HE-REZ/YSZ DCL coating exhibited obviously improved thermal stability when compared to the LZ/YSZ DCL coating. The reasons for the improvement of the thermal shock resistance are considered to be the anti-sinterability of the HE-REZ ceramics during the thermal cycling test attributed to the sluggish diffusion effect and as well as the better match in the coefficient of thermal expansion of HE-REZ coating with the YSZ inner layer. In addition, the HE-REZ coating maintains fluorite structure after thermal cycling test. This study makes one step forward in the development and application of high-entropy rare-earth zirconate ceramic thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

A novel (Sm0.2Lu0.2Dy0.2Yb0.2Y0.2)3TaO7 (SLT-5RE0.2) oxide with a single-fluorite structure was synthesized via an optimized sol-gel and sintering method, and its crystal structure, mechanical and thermophysical properties were investigated. The results indicate that the calcined nanoscale powder is of high crystallinity, and bulk sample is of a uniform elemental distribution. Compared to YSZ (6–8 wt.% Y2O3 partially stabilized by ZrO2), SLT-5RE0.2 exhibits lower Young's modulus, less mean acoustic velocity, and higher Vickers microhardness. Owing to the strengthened anharmonic vibration and phonon scattering, SLT-5RE0.2 exhibits low thermal conductivity (1.107 W K?1·m?1, 900 °C). The high thermal expansion coefficient (11.3 × 10?6 K?1, 1200 °C) of SLT-5RE0.2 ceramic can be ascribed to the reduced lattice energy and ionic spacing as well as the cocktail effect of high-entropy ceramics. The excellent mechanical and thermophysical properties, and excellent phase steadiness during the whole testing temperature cope, indicate that SLT-5RE0.2 high-entropy ceramic can be a candidate material for thermal barrier coatings.  相似文献

Sand corrosion, thermal expansion, and ablation properties of a new class of medium- and high-entropy compositionally complex fluorite oxides (CCFOs) are examined as potential protective coating materials. Five binary oxides were mixed and sintered into dense, single-phase CCFOs of the general formula: [Hf(1-2x)/3Zr(1-2x)/3Ce(1-2x)/3YxYbx]O2-δ (x = 0.2, 0.074, and 0.029). These CCFOs exhibit decreased molten sand infiltration and interaction at intermediate temperatures (1200-1300°C) in comparison with a cubic yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) reference; however, at higher temperatures, the trend is reversed due to the increased chemical reactivity. The equimolar high-entropy (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ce0.2Y0.2Yb0.2)O2-δ exhibits no grain boundary penetration by molten sand at all examined temperatures (1200°C-1500°C), although reaction and precipitation are significant. Moreover, these CCFOs exhibit higher intrinsic thermal expansion coefficients (CTE) than the YSZ reference, thereby being more compatible with Ni-based superalloys. The 8YSZ-like (Hf0.284Zr0.284Ce0.284Y0.074Yb0.074)O2-δ exhibits the highest CTE in this series of CCFOs due to oxygen clustering effects. Finally, these CCFOs also exhibit lower emissivities and form unique faceted microstructures in ablative environments.  相似文献

Inspired by the high entropy effects of high-entropy components, a novel high-entropy rare-earth zirconate (La1/5Gd1/5Y1/5Sm1/5Yb1/5)2Zr2O7 (HEC-LZ) was designed and successfully synthesized in this work. In addition, two binary rare-earth doped zirconates (RE-LZ), (La1/3Sm1/3Yb1/3)2Zr2O7 (LSYZ) and (La1/3Gd1/3Y1/3)2Zr2O7 (LGYZ), were proposed using the same rare-earth elements for comparison. The thermal barrier coatings with LZ-based ceramic top layer were prepared by spray granulation, solid-phase synthesis and atmospheric plasma spraying techniques. The as-synthesized LZ-based ceramics are all dominated by the pyrochlore phase. Under 1000 °C, the thermal cycling performances of the three coatings were studied. The microstructure evolution and crack expansion during the failure process were investigated in detail. The strengthening mechanism and the cause of coating spallation are proposed in combination with mechanical properties and thermal matching analysis. The results showed that compared with the undoped LZ coating, the thermal shock life of LGYZ coating, LSYZ coating and HEC-LZ coating is improved by nearly 46%, 27% and 57%, respectively. Due to the characteristics of high randomness, HEC-LZ ceramic has a large lattice distortion than RE-LZ ceramics, resulting in a higher coefficient of thermal expansion and fracture toughness, which contributes to maintaining the structure stability of coatings under thermal stress.  相似文献

To explore the mechanism of phase transformation, YTa3O9 was prepared by an integrated one-step synthesis and sintering method at 1500 °C using Y2O3 and Ta2O5 powders as starting materials. High-temperature XRD patterns and Raman spectra showed that a phase transformation from orthorhombic to tetragonal took place in YTa3O9 through the bond length and angle changes at 300–400 °C, which caused a thermal conductivity rise. To inhibit the phase transformation, a high-entropy (Y0.2La0.2Ce0.2Nd0.2Gd0.2)Ta3O9 (HE RETa3O9) was designed and synthesized at 1550 °C using the integrated solid-state synthesis and sintering method. In tetragonal structured HE RETa3O9, phase transformation was inhibited by the high-entropy effect. Furthermore, HE RETa3O9 exhibited low thermal conductivity, and its tendency to increase with temperature was alleviated (1.69 W/m·K, 1073 K). Good phase stability, low thermal conductivity and comparable fracture toughness to YSZ make HE RETa3O9 promising as a new thermal barrier coating material.  相似文献

Using fluorite oxides as an example, this study broadens high-entropy ceramics (HECs) to compositionally-complex ceramics (CCCs) or multi-principal cation ceramics (MPCCs) to include medium-entropy and/or non-equimolar compositions. Nine compositions of compositionally-complex fluorite oxides (CCFOs) with the general formula of (Hf1/3Zr1/3Ce1/3)1-x(Y1/2X1/2)xO2-δ (X = Yb, Ca, and Gd; x = 0.4, 0.148, and 0.058) are fabricated. The phase stability, mechanical properties, and thermal conductivities are measured. Compared with yttria-stabilized zirconia, these CCFOs exhibit increased cubic phase stability and reduced thermal conductivity, while retaining high Young’s modulus (∼210 GPa) and nanohardness (∼18 GPa). Moreover, the temperature-dependent thermal conductivity in the non-equimolar CCFOs shows an amorphous-like behavior. In comparison with their equimolar high-entropy counterparts, the medium-entropy non-equimolar CCFOs exhibit even lower thermal conductivity (k) while maintaining high modulus (E), thereby achieving higher E/k ratios. These results suggest a new direction to achieve thermally-insulative yet stiff CCCs (MPCCs) via exploring non-equimolar and/or medium-entropy compositions.  相似文献

A nano dual-phase powder with great sinterability was synthesized by molten-salt assisted borothermal reductions at 1100 °C using B, ZrO2, HfO2, Ta2O5, Nb2O5 and TiO2 powders as raw materials. Single-phase (Zr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)B2 high-entropy ceramic was prepared by spark plasma sintering using the as-synthesized nano dual-phase powder. Oxidation behavior of the (Zr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)B2 ceramic was investigated over the range of 30–1400 °C in air and the result indicated that the rapid oxidation of ceramic began at 1300 °C. The phenomenon could be ascribed to the rapid volatilization of B2O3 from oxide scale. A layered structure was formed at the cross section of (Zr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)B2 ceramic after oxidation. The relationship between partial pressures of gaseous metal oxides and oxygen partial pressures was calculated, which inferred that the formation of layered structure could be ascribed to the active oxidation of (Zr0.2Hf0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)B2, the generation of gaseous metal oxides, their outward diffusion and further oxidation.  相似文献

A novel high‐entropy carbide ceramic, (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)C, with a single‐phase rock salt structure, was synthesized by spark plasma sintering. X‐ray diffraction confirmed the formation of a single‐phase rock salt structure at 26‐1140°C in Argon atmosphere, in which the 5 metal elements may share a cation position while the C element occupies the anion position. (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)C exhibits a much lower thermal diffusivity and conductivity than the binary carbides HfC, ZrC, TaC, and TiC, which may result from the significant phonon scattering at its distorted anion sublattice. (Hf0.2Zr0.2Ta0.2Nb0.2Ti0.2)C inherits the high elastic modulus and hardness of the binary carbide ceramics.  相似文献
