To better understand the rapidly growing social media research domain, this study presents the findings of a scientometric analysis of the corresponding literature. We conducted a research productivity analysis and citation analysis of individuals, institutions, and countries based on 610 peer-reviewed social media articles published in journals and conference proceedings between October 2004 and December 2011. Results indicate that research productivity is exploding and that several leading authors, institutions, countries, and a small set of foundational papers have emerged. Based on the results—indicating that the social media domain displays limited diversity and is still heavily influenced by practitioners—the paper raises two fundamental challenges facing the social media domain and its future advancement, namely the lack of academic maturity and the Matthew Effect.  相似文献

Abstract

The Portevin–Le Chatelier (PLC) effect manifests itself as an unstable plastic flow during tensile tests of some dilute alloys under certain regimes of strain rate and temperature. The plastic strain becomes localized in the form of bands which move along a specimen gauge in various ways as the PLC effect occurs. Because the localization of strain causes degradation of the inherent structural properties and surface quality of materials, understanding the effect is crucial for the effective use of alloys. The characteristic behaviors of localized strain bands and techniques commonly used to study the PLC effect are summarized in this review. A brief overview of experimental findings, the effect of material properties and test parameters on the PLC effect, and some discussion on the mechanisms of the effect are included. Tests for predicting the early failure of structural materials due to embrittlement induced by the PLC effect are also discussed.  相似文献

ABS is an engineering plastic that has butadiene part uniformly distributed over the acrylonitrile-styrene matrix. It possesses excellent toughness, good dimensional stability, easy processing ability, chemical resistance, and cheapness. However, it suffers from inherent shortcomings in terms of mechanical strength and vulnerability to environmental conditions. Furthermore, it is non-conducting and easily fretted. Plating on ABS can serve to enhance the strength and structural integrity as well as to improve durability and thermal resistance resulting in metallic properties on the ABS material. ABS is described as the most suitable candidate for plating because it is possible to deposit an adherent metal coating on it by only the use of chemical pretreatment process and without the use of any mechanical abrasion. This article aims to review the history of ABS plastics, properties of ABS, processes and mechanisms of plating, and studies of plating on ABS involving mainly eco-friendly methods of plating by discussing the literature published in recent years. The details of electroplating of ABS carried out in the authors’ laboratory are also presented.  相似文献

This article reports for first time the state of science and technology in the African Continent on the basis of two scientometric indicators — number of research publications and number of patents awarded. Our analysis shows that Africa produced 68,945 publications over the 2000–2004 period or 1.8% of the World’s publications. In comparison India produced 2.4% and Latin America 3.5% of the World’s research. More detailed analysis reveals that research in Africa is concentrated in just two countries — South Africa and Egypt. These two counties produce just above 50% of the Continent’s publications and the top eight countries produce above 80% of the Continent’s research. Disciplinary analysis reveals that few African countries have the minimum number of scientists required for the functioning of a scientific discipline. Examination of the Continent’s inventive profile, as manifested in patents, indicates that Africa produces less than one thousand of the world’s inventions. Furthermore 88% of the Continent’s inventive activity is concentrated in South Africa. The article recommends that the African Governments should pay particular attention in developing their national research systems.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

This paper presents findings from a literature review on older adults continued use of the Internet following an identity theft incident. Globally, identity theft is increasing, statistics show that the number of older adults falling victim to identity theft is growing. Victims of identity theft suffer emotional, physical, psychological, and social problems; many change their behaviour as a result. The aim of the review was to examine literature to determine what is known regarding how older adults use the Internet and/or modify their online behaviour following an identity theft event. It was found that knowledge is lacking regarding the impact that identity theft events have on older adults’ continuation of Internet use. Little research has been undertaken to understand the factors and interrelationships that contribute to the situation. The review highlights that a systems ergonomics approach should be considered as an appropriate framework to drive future research in this area.  相似文献

Person identification based on iris recognition is getting more and more attention among the modalities used for biometric recognition. This fact is due to the immutable and unique characteristics of the iris. Therefore it is of utmost importance for researchers interested in this discipline to know who and what is relevant in this area. This paper presents a comprehensive overview of the field of iris recognition research using a bibliometric approach. Besides, this article provides historical records, basic concepts, current progress and trends in the field. With this purpose in mind, our bibliometric study is based on 1,354 documents written in English, published between 2000 and 2012. Scopus was used to perform the information retrieval. In the course of this study, we synthesized significant bibliometric indicators on iris recognition research in order to evaluate to what extent this particular field has been explored. Thereby, we focus on foundations, temporal evolution, leading authors, most cited papers, significant conventions, leading journals, outstanding research topics and enterprises and patents. Research topics are classified into three main categories: ongoing, emerging, and decreasing according to their corresponding number of publications over the period under study. An analysis of these indicators suggests there has been major advances in iris recognition research and also reveals promising new avenues worthy of investigation in the future. This study will be useful to future investigators in the field.  相似文献

In many cases the conduction mechanism inside a particle can not be ignored (large particles, low thermal conductivity and high porosity) during turbulent gas–particle flows. However, the accurate solution might be difficult to apply. Therefore, we first develop here the ability to conduct accurate solution and then we define the criterion for which the internal conductivity might be ignored. A combination between commercial C.F.D. code and user defined programs was developed to predict numerically the gas–particle velocity and temperature profiles. The selected criterion (defined at the outlet of the pipe’s cross-section), referred to the relation between the computational desirable average temperature difference without ignoring internal heat conductivity and the average particles temperature by ignoring internal heat conductivity, determines whether to consider the heat conduction mechanism in numerical simulations or to ignore it. It was found that the average particles temperature for T pf(r) is lower than the case when T p =  constant. Also, it was found that the non-dimensional temperature difference criterion is a continuous function of [Bi ×  (d p/D)] for a specific geometry, various pipe and particle diameters, various particles’ thermal conductivities, constant heat flux and Re number. The numerical code enables to extend the classical criterion for Bi number of solids to various gas–particle systems and different operational conditions.  相似文献

Based on a face-to-face survey of 312 scientists from government research institutes and state universities in two Philippine locations — Los Baños, Laguna and Muñoz, Nueva Ecija — we examine how graduate training and digital factors shape the professional network of scientists at the “Global South.” Results suggest that scientists prefer face-to-face interaction; there is no compelling evidence that digitally-mediated interaction will replace meaningful face-to-face interaction. What is evident is that among none face-to-face modes of communication a reordering maybe in progress.The effect of digital factors — expressed through advance hardware-software-user interaction skills — lies on network features pertaining to size, proportion of male and of core-based alters, and locational diversity. International graduate training and ascribed factors (gender and number of children) also configure the professional network of scientists — actors traditionally viewed as the epitome of rationality and objectivity. We argue that these factors influence knowledge production through a system of patronage and a culture that celebrates patrifocality. We forward the hypothesis that knowledge production at the “Global South” closely fits Callon’s [1995] extended translation model of science.  相似文献
