Tandem catalysis offers a novel synthetic route to the production of linear low‐density polyethylene. This article reports the use of homogeneous tandem catalytic systems for the synthesis of ethylene/1‐octene copolymers from ethylene stock as the sole monomer. The reported catalytic systems involving a highly selective, bis(diphenylphosphino)cyclohexylamine/Cr(acac)3/methylaluminoxane (MAO) catalytic systems for the synthesis of 1‐hexene and 1‐octene, and a copolymerization metallocene catalyst, rac‐Et(Ind)2ZrCl2/MAO for the synthesis of ethylene/1‐octene copolymer. Analysis by means of DSC, GPC, and 13C‐NMR suggests that copolymers of 1‐hexene and ethylene and copolymers of 1‐octene and ethylene are produced with significant selectivity towards 1‐hexene and 1‐octene as comonomers incorporated into the polymer backbone respectively. We have demonstrated that, by the simple manipulation of the catalyst molar ratio and polymerization conditions, a series of branched polyethylenes with melting temperatures of 101.1–134.1°C and density of 0.922–0.950 g cm?3 can be efficiently produced. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. It is demonstrated that the catalyst system bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl)‐zirconium dichloride (Me5Cp)2ZrCl2–methylaluminoxane (MAO) is able to produce random copolymers of ethene and 1‐hexene. The 1‐hexene incorporation in the copolymers is extremely small. Even in the case of a molar ratio of [ethene] to [1‐hexene] of 1/20 in the monomer feed, only 1.4 mol % 1‐hexene are incorporated according to 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra. Nevertheless, the physical properties of the random copolymers change significantly in this small range of 1‐hexene incorporation, from a high‐density polyethene to a linear low‐density polyethene. Thus, the melting temperature, the degree of crystallinity, the density and lamella thickness, and the long period of the alternating crystalline and amorphous regions decrease with increasing 1‐hexene content in the random copolymers. Blends of high‐density polyethene prepared with the system (Me5Cp)2ZrCl2–MAO and an elastomeric random copolymer of ethene and 1‐hexene are phase‐separated and show good compatibility, as demonstrated by transmission electron microscopy. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Metallocenes are a modern innovation in polyolefin catalysis research. Therefore, two supported metallocene catalysts—silica/MAO/(nBuCp)2ZrCl2 (Catalyst 1) and silica/nBuSnCl3/MAO/(nBuCp)2ZrCl2 (Catalyst 2), where MAO is methylaluminoxane—were synthesized, and subsequently used to prepare, without separate feeding of MAO, ethylene–1‐hexene Copolymer 1 and Copolymer 2, respectively. Fouling‐free copolymerization, catalyst kinetic stability and production of free‐flowing polymer particles (replicating the catalyst particle size distribution) confirmed the occurrence of heterogeneous catalysis. The catalyst active center distribution was modeled by deconvoluting the measured molecular weight distribution and copolymer composition distribution. Five different active center types were predicted for each catalyst, which was corroborated by successive self‐nucleation and annealing experiments, as well as by an extended X‐ray absorption fine structure spectroscopy report published in the literature. Hence, metallocenes impregnated particularly on an MAO‐pretreated support may be rightly envisioned to comprise an ensemble of isolated single sites that have varying coordination environments. This study shows how the active center distribution and the design of supported MAO anions affect copolymerization activity, polymerization mechanism and the resulting polymer microstructures. Catalyst 2 showed less copolymerization activity than Catalyst 1. Strong chain transfer and positive co‐monomer effect—both by 1‐hexene—were common. Each copolymer demonstrated vinyl, vinylidene and trans‐vinylene end groups, and compositional heterogeneity. All these findings were explained, as appropriate, considering the modeled active center distribution, MAO cage structure repeat units, proposed catalyst surface chemistry, segregation effects and the literature that concerns and supports this study. While doing so, new insights were obtained. Additionally, future research, along the direction of the present work, is recommended. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new heterogeneous catalyst, polyaniline supported palladium (II) chloride (PANI–PdCl2), was synthesized and studied for alternating copolymerization of styrene (ST) with carbon monoxide (CO) to prepare polyketone (PK). The SEM, FTIR and XRD results indicated that PdCl2 was successfully supported on PANI backbone. The 1H NMR, FTIR, 13C NMR, TG and DTG results indicated that the supported catalyst changed the microstructures of PK, and the product is a linear alternating copolymer with higher degradation rates and decomposition temperatures. Furthermore, PANI–PdCl2 catalyst was found to serve as an effective recycled catalyst after the third recover time.  相似文献

Ethylene/1‐hexene copolymerization was carried out with polystyrene‐supported metallocene catalyst. It was found that the kinetic of the copolymerization was strongly influenced by the steric hindrance of carrier. The influences of 1‐hexene concentration in the feed on catalyst productivity and comonomer reactivity were investigated. The microstructure of resultant copolymer was analyzed by 13C NMR. It was found that the different carriers have slight effect on the composite of copolymer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 102: 1574–1577, 2006  相似文献

Summary Random copolymerization of norbornene with styrene was studied by using a series of late metal catalysts/MAO. The precatalysts used here are nickel complexes with b-ketoamine ligands based on pyrazolone derivatives. The copolymers obtained here suggest that only one type of active species is present. Copolymers were characterized by 13C NMR, Gel permeation chromatography (GPC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and FT-IR spectra. The analyses of the product by 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectra gave the verification of “true” random vinyl addition copolymer. Varying the monomer feed ratio controlled the composition of the copolymers. A copolymerization reactivity ratio (rNBE = 20.35 and rSty = 0.027) indicates a much higher reactivity of norbornene, which suggests a coordination polymerization mechanism. The solubility and processability of the copolymers are improved relative to polynorbornene and the thermostability of the copolymers is improved relative to polystyrene.  相似文献

Electrophilic alkylations of phenol/2,6‐dimethylphenol were performed with vinylidene‐terminated poly(1‐hexene)s using BF3·OEt2 catalyst. Vinylidene‐terminated poly(1‐hexene)s with Mn varying from 400 to 10000 were prepared by bulk polymerization of 1‐hexene at 50 to ?20 °C using Cp2ZrCl2/MAO catalysts. The phenol/2,6‐dimethylphenol‐terminated poly(1‐hexene)s was characterized by NMR (1H, 13C), UV, IR and vapor phase osmometer (VPO). The isomer distribution (ortho, para and ortho/para) was determined by 13P NMR using a phosphitylating reagent, namely 2‐chloro‐1,3,2‐dioxaphospholane. The number‐average degree of functionality (Fn) >0.9 with >95% para selectivity could be achieved using low‐molecular‐weight oligomers of poly(1‐hexene)s. Polyethylene copolymers prepared using the metallocene catalyst rac‐Et[Ind]2ZrCl2 were fractionated by preparative Temperature Rising Elution Fractionation (p‐TREF) and characterized by 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and gel permeation chromatography (GPC) to study the heterogeneity caused by experimental conditions. Two ethylene–1‐hexene copolymers with different 1‐hexene content and an ethylene–1‐octene copolymer all obtained using low (1.6 bar) ethylene pressure were compared with two ethylene–1‐hexene copolymers with different 1‐hexene content obtained at high ethylene pressure (7.0 bar). Samples obtained at low ethylene pressure and with low 1‐hexene concentration in the reactor presented narrow distributions in composition. Samples prepared with high comonomer concentration in the reactor or with high ethylene pressure showed an heterogeneous composition. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Separation into narrow MWD fractions (liquid–liquid fractionation) and preparative TREF (temperature rising elution fractionation) with subsequent analysis of fractions by GPC, FTIR, and 13C NMR spectroscopy were used to study the comonomer distribution of ethylene/1–hexene copolymers produced over highly active supported titanium‐ and vanadium‐magnesium catalysts (TMC and VMC) and a supported zirconocene catalyst. These catalysts produce PE with different MWD: Mw/Mn values vary from 2.9 for zirconocene catalyst, 4.0 for TMC, and 15 for VMC. 1‐Hexene increases polydispersity to 25 for copolymer produced over VMC and hardly affects MWD of the copolymer produced over TMC and zirconocene catalysts. The most broad short chain branching distribution (SCBD) was found for ethylene/1–hexene copolymers produced over TMC. VMC and supported zirconocene catalyst produce copolymers with uniform profile of SCB content vs. molecular weight in spite of great differences in Mw/Mn values (22 and 2.5 respectively). TREF data showed that majority of copolymer produced over supported zirconocene catalyst was eluted at 70–90°C (about 85 wt %). In the case of VMC copolymer's fractions were eluted in the broad temperature interval (40–100°C). Accordingly, TREF data indicate a more homogeneous SCBD in copolymer, produced over supported zirconocene catalyst. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

A new type of post‐metallocene polymerization catalyst based on titanium complexes with N,N‐dialkylcarbamato ligands was used to copolymerize ethylene and 1‐hexene. These easy‐to‐synthesize and stable complexes in combination with different organoaluminium co‐catalysts produce random ethylene/1‐hexene copolymers characterized by a broad molecular weight distribution and high 1‐hexene incorporation, as confirmed by SEC, DSC and 13C NMR analysis. The influence of the main reaction parameters on the polymerization reactions was studied including the type of catalyst components, solvent, temperature, the ethylene partial pressure and the [Al]/[Ti] ratio in the catalyst. A higher activity and a higher 1‐hexene incorporation were achieved with AlMe3‐depleted methylalumoxane as co‐catalyst and chlorobenzene as solvent. © 2013 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

[Bis(N,N′‐dimesitylimino)acenaphthene]dibromonickel ( 1 ) when activated with diethylaluminium chloride (DEAC) is a very active catalyst for ethylene homopolymerization. The activity (AE) of 1 /100 DEAC is twenty times greater than that of 1 /100 MAO and of the same order of magnitude as 1 /2000 MAO. In the case of homopolymerization of propylene the highest activity (AP) was obtained at a ratio of 25/15 for AlDEAC/Ni. Trialkylaluminium compounds were also found to act as cocatalysts for 1 . The PE synthesized with four different cocatalysts was found by 13C NMR to have dissimilar branching distributions. 1 /DEAC shows no activity for the polymerization of proximately substituted polar monomers. The introduction of dibutylmagnesium, (DBM) activates the 1 /DEAC system to copolymerize ethylene and a number of proximately substituted polar monomers. Compared with the 1 /MAO/monomer.AlR3 catalyst system the former is three times more active for copolymerization of 5‐hexene‐1‐ol or 10‐undecen‐1‐oic acid with ethylene. The activity of copolymerization is 1 /24, 1 /5 and 1 /2 as active as homopolymerization, respectively, in the case of methyl vinyl ketone, vinyl acetate and ?‐caprolactam. In the case of tetrahydrofuran/ethylene, the 1 /MAO catalyst produced copolymers using AlR3 pretreated THF whereas the 1 /DEAC/DBM catalyst produces homopolyethylene only. No polymerization occurred with an acrylonitrile/ethylene mixture in the presence of 1 /DBM/DEAC catalyst. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Graft copolymerization of styrene onto poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polypropylene (PP) was carried out in a supercritical CO2 medium using AIBN as a free radical initiator. The supercritical CO2 medium served as a reaction medium in addition to being a solvent for the styrene monomer and the free radical initiator. The reaction temperature and pressure were kept above the critical points of the solvent‐monomer mixture to form a homogeneous single‐phase medium. The resulting graft copolymers were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques. The weight percent of grafting was determined using IR absorbance ratio technique. TGA results showed that the thermal stabilily of grafted copolymer of PVC was better than that of PVC, while grafted copolymer of PP had poorer thermal stability than PP. DSC results showed that glass transition temperatures (Tg's) of the grafted copolymers were higher than those of the starting polymers PVC and PP. The presence of polystyrene attached to the backbone polymer was confirmed by 1H NMR and 13C NMR analyses.  相似文献

Binary copolymerization of 4‐methyl‐1,3‐pentadiene (4MPD) with styrene, butadiene and isoprene promoted by the titanium complex dichloro{1,4‐dithiabutanediyl‐2,2′‐bis[4,6‐bis(2‐phenyl‐2‐propyl)phenoxy]}titanium activated by methylaluminoxane is reported. All the copolymers are obtained in a wide range of composition and the molecular weight distributions obtained from gel permeation chromatographic analysis of the copolymers are coherent with the materials being copolymeric in nature. The copolymer microstructure was fully elucidated by means of 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. Differential scanning calorimetry shows an increase of glass transition temperature (Tg) with the amount of 4MPD in the copolymers with butadiene and isoprene, while in the copolymers with styrene Tg is increased on increasing the amount of styrene. © 2016 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

An effective preparation of new tailor‐made macromolecular materials via the combination of two fully atom‐efficient catalytic transformations is reported. First, new isoprene‐co‐1,3,7‐octatriene [P(IP‐co‐OT)] copolymers with controlled composition (2–21 mol% triene incorporated), molecular weight (Mn=23–102,000 g mol−1) and microstructure (1,4‐cis rich) have been prepared using the homogeneous Ziegler–Natta catalyst system composed of diallylneodynium chloride, magnesium chloride, tetrahydrofuran and methylaluminoxane [Nd(allyl)2Cl(MgCl2)2(THF)4/MAO]. Next, the pendant vinyl moieties in those P(IP‐co‐OT) copolymers have been selectively transformed into phosphonate groups by hydrophosphorylation in the presence of homogeneous rhodium phosphine catalysts. The latter hydrophosphorylation reaction has been optimized in terms of catalytic activity and selectivity, to define the conditions for an effective and safe procedure that does not affect the macromolecular architecture. All polymer materials have been microstructurally analyzed by 1H, 13C, and 31P NMR spectroscopy, to diagnose the catalyst selectivities in the copolymerization and hydrophosphorylation processes.  相似文献

Novel hyperbranched copolymers were prepared by the atom transfer radical copolymerization of N-(4-α-bromobutyryloxy phenyl) maleimide (BBPMI) with styrene in 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) using the complex of CuBr/2,2′-bipyridine as catalyst. The copolymerization behavior was investigated by comparison of the conversion of double bond of BBPMI determined by 1H NMR with that of styrene. The hyperbranched structure of resulting copolymers was verified by gel permeation chromatography (GPC) coupled with multi-angle laser light scattering (MALLS). The influences of dosage of catalyst and monomer ratio on the polymerization rate and structure of the resulting polymers were also investigated. The glass transition temperature of the resulting hyperbranched copolymer increases with increasing mole fraction of BBPMI, fBBPMI. The resulting copolymers exhibit improved solubility in organic solvents; however, they show lower thermal stabilities than their linear analogues.  相似文献

Summary Copolymerization of vinyl chloride (VC) and ethylene with Cp*Ti( OCH3)3/MAO catalyst was investigated. The Cp*Ti( OCH3)3/MAO catalyst initiated the copolymerization of VC with ethylene, although the copolymer yields were low. In the 13C NMR spectra of the copolymers, the peaks based on junction part between VC and ethylene was observed, but the signals were small. From DSC measurement of the copolymers, only one glass transition temperature was observed. Thus, it is clear that the copolymerization with Cp*Ti( OCH3)3/MAO catalysts gave the copolymer, and the copolymer consisting of block sequence rather than random copolymer. Biodegradable diblock copolymers were prepared from glycolide and poly(oxyethylene) of Mn=600 (POE 600), 1500 (POE 1500) and 2000 (POE 2000). The copolymerization of glycolide and POE was induced in heterogeneous phase by “Maghnite-H+” under suitable conditions. Maghnite-H+ is a montmorillonite sheet silicate clay exchanged with protons. Various techniques, including 1H NMR, 13C NMR, IR, DSC and Ubbelohde viscometer were used to elucidate structural characteristics and thermal properties of the resulting copolymers. The effect of the [glycolide]/[POE] molar ratio on the rate of copolymerization and on intrinsic viscosity of the resulting copolymers was studied. Data showed that the rate of copolymerization and intrinsic viscosity of copolymers increase with increasing [glycolide]/[POE] molar ratio.  相似文献

The sequential block copolymerization of styrene (St) and butadiene (Bd) was carried out with an activated rare earth catalyst composed of catalyst neodymium tricarboxylate (Nd), cocatalyst Al(i‐Bu)3 (Al), and chlorinating agent (Cl). The microstructure, composition, and morphology of the copolymer were characterized by FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, and TEM. The results show that styrene–butadiene diblock copolymer with high cis‐1,4 microstructure of butadiene units (~ 97 mol %) was synthesized. The cis‐selectivity for Bd units was almost independent on the content of styrene units in the copolymer ranging from 18.1 mol % to 29.8 mol %. The phase‐separated morphology of polystyrene (PS) domains of about 40 nm tethered by the elastomeric polybutadiene (PB) segments is observed. The PS‐bcis‐PB copolymer could be used as an effective compatilizer for noncompatilized binary PS/cis‐PB blends. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

Copolymers (polyoxymethylene) were prepared by cationic copolymerization of 1,3,5‐trioxane (TOX) with 1,3‐dioxolane (DOX) in the presence of Maghnite‐H+ (Mag‐H+) in solution. Maghnite is a Montmorillonite sheet silicate clay, with exchanged protons to produce Mag‐H+. Various techniques, including 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR, FT‐IR spectroscopy, and Ubbelohde viscometer were used to elucidate structural characteristics properties of the resulting copolymers. The influence of the amount of catalyst, of dioxolane (DOX), temperature, solvent, and time of copolymerization on yield and on intrinsic viscosity of copolymers was studied. The yield of copolymerization depends on the amount of Mag‐H+ used and the reaction time. Biodegradable copolymers of 2‐methylene‐1,3‐dioxepane (MDO) and styrene (ST) were synthesized by free‐radical copolymerization using di‐t‐butyl peroxide (DTBP) as the initiator. The copolymers containing ester units were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 1H‐NMR, and 13C‐NMR spectroscopy. Their molecular weight and polydispersity index were determined by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). In vitro enzymatic degradation of poly(MDO‐co‐ST) was performed at 37°C in phosphate buffer solution (PBS, pH = 7.4) in the presence of Pseudomonas lipase or crude enzyme extracted from earthworm. The experiment showed that incorporating ester units into C? C backbone chain of polystyrene would result in a biodegradable copolymer. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
