A novel starch‐graft‐acrylamide/kaolinite superabsorbent composite with water absorbency 4000 times (g ) was synthesized by a graft copolymerization reaction among acrylamide, potato starch and kaolinite ultrafine powder, followed by saponification with NaOH. The influence of the hydrophilic group on water absorbency was investigated. It was found that the combined absorbent effect of —CONH2, —COONa and —COOH groups was superior to that of a single group, and the composite with the molar ratio of 8:6:3 for the —CONH2, —COONa and —COOH groups exhibits the highest water‐absorbent ability. In this work, a novel poly(acrylic acid‐coN‐acryloylmorpholine)/attapulgite superabsorbent composite was prepared by graft copolymerization among acrylic acid, N‐acryloylmorpholine and attapulgite in aqueous solution, using N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker and ammonium persulfate as an initiator. The result from FTIR spectra showed that  OH of attapulgite participated in graft copolymerization with acrylic acid and N‐acryloylmorpholine. Proper monomer ratio and atapulgite content could form a loose surface, and improve reswelling ability and initial swelling rate. The buffer action of the  COOH and  COO groups in the superabsorbent composite keeps the water absorbency a rough constant in the pH range of 4.4–9.6. Both polarity and structure of an organic solvent are responsible for the phase transition point of the superabsorbent composite. POLYM. COMPOS., 2010. © 2009 Society of Plastics Engineers  相似文献

A series of poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide)/kaolin [poly(AA‐co‐Am)/kaolin] composites were prepared by aqueous solution copolymerization of partially neutralized acrylic acid and acrylamide in the presence of kaolin nanopowder, which was synthesized to act as a release carrier of urea fertilizer. The superabsorbent composite was swollen in aqueous solution of urea to load urea, and the effect of urea concentration on the swelling was investigated. Furthermore, the effects of the contents of crosslinker, kaolin, and acrylamide, the neutralization degree of acrylic acid, and temperature, pH, and ionic strength of release medium on water absorbency and diffusion coefficient of urea release from poly(AA‐co‐Am)/kaolin were studied systematically. It was found that urea loading percentage could be adjusted by urea concentration of swelling medium, and urea diffusion coefficient could be regulated through the contents of crosslinker, kaolin, and acrylamide, and the neutralization degree of acrylic acid. Additionally, temperature and ionic strength of release medium may also affect the urea release process. The conclusions obtained could provide theoretical basis for urea diffusion behavior in superabsorbent used in agriculture. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2007  相似文献

A new cellulose‐based superabsorbent polymer, carboxymethyl cellulose‐graft‐poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide), was prepared by the free‐radical grafting solution polymerization of acrylic acid (AA) and acrylamide (AM) monomers onto carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) in the presence of N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker with a redox couple of potassium persulfate and sodium metabisulfite as an initiator. The influences of reaction variables such as the initiator content, crosslinker content, bath temperature, molar ratio of AA to AM, and weight ratio of the monomers to CMC on the water absorbency of the carboxymethylcellulose‐graft‐poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide) copolymer were investigated. The copolymer's structures were characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The optimum reaction conditions were obtained as follows: the bath temperature was 50°C; the molar ratio of AA to AM was 3 : 1; the mass ratio of the monomers to CMC was 4 : 1; and the weight percentages of the crosslinker and initiator with respect to the monomers were 0.75 and 1%, respectively. The maximum water absorbency of the optimized product was 920 g/g for distilled water and 85 g/g for a 0.9 wt % aqueous NaCl solution. In addition, the superabsorbent possessed good water retention and salt resistance. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 103: 1382–1388, 2007  相似文献

A novel superabsorbent composite from acrylamide (AM) and attapulgite (APT), polyacrylamide/attapulgite (PAM/APT), was prepared by polymerizing AM with the existence of APT in aqueous solution, and then saponified with NaOH solution. Considering the impacts of hydrophilic groups (? COONa, ? COOH, and ? CONH2) on properties of the PAM/APT composite, the effects of saponification mode, molar ratio of NaOH to AM and saponification time on water absorbency, hydrophilic group content, and surface morphology were investigated systematically. The results indicate that the two‐step adding NaOH mode is superior to that of the one‐step mode. Among the superabsorbent composite incorporated with 30 wt% APT, the composite saponified at 95°C for 2 h with the molar ratio of 0.6 for NaOH to AM acquired the highest water absorbencies of 1715g g?1 and 87.8g g?1 in distilled water and in 0.9 wt% NaCl solution, respectively. The molar ratio of various hydrophilic groups at this time was 10:3:11 for ? COONa, ? COOH, and ? CONH2 determined using linear potentiometric titration method. POLYM. ENG. A novel starch-graft-acrylamide/mineral powder superabsorbent composite with water absorbency about 4000 times is synthesized by graft-copolymerization reaction among acrylamide, potato starch and mineral ultrafinepowder, followed by hydrolysis with sodium hydroxide. It is found that the composite doped with kaolinite powder possess higher water absorbency than those doped with bentonite or sercite powder, since the kaolinite powder can moderately disperse in the water and cross-link with acrylamide and starch. By controlling the amount of NaOH and reaction time during saponification process, the hydrophilic groups on the composite can be adjusted, it is found that the collaborative absorbent effect of −CONH2, −COONa and −COOH groups is superior to that of single −CONH2, −COONa or −COOH group. By the IR characterization, the polymerization reaction mechanism and structure of the composite is supposed, the mineral ultrafinepowder as a cross-linking point play an important role in the formation of network structure of the superabsorbent composite.  相似文献

A novel superabsorbent nanocomposite based on partially neutralized acrylic acid, waste polystyrene foam, and sodium type montmorillonite (Na‐MMT) powder was synthesized through emulsion polymerization using N, N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker, 2,2′‐azo‐bisiso‐butyronitrile, ammonium persulfate, and sodium sulfite as mixed redox initiators. The effects of such factors as amount of Na‐MMT, crosslinker, initiator, and neutralization degree on water absorbency of the superabsorbent were investigated. The composites were characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscope, X‐ray diffraction, thermo gravimetric analysis, and scanning electron microscope. The results show that acrylic acid monomer successfully grafted onto the polystyrene chain, the layers of Na‐MMT were exfoliated and dispersed in the composite at nano size after copolymerization. The introduction of waste polystyrene foam in the composite increased the water absorbency rate. The addition of Na‐MMT not only enhanced the thermal stability of the composites but also increased its water absorbency, and the optimal water absorbencies of distilled water and saline water (wNaCl = 0.9%) of the nanocomposites were more than 1180 g H2O/g and 72.6 g H2O/g, respectively. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel superabsorbent composite, poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide)/potassium humate (PAA‐AM/KHA), was prepared by aqueous solution polymerization from acrylic acid, acrylamide, and potassium humate (KHA) with N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide as a crosslinker and potassium peroxydisulfate as an initiator. The effects of incorporated KHA on the water absorbency, swelling rate, and reswelling capability were investigated. The swelling property of PAA‐AM/KHA in various saline solutions was studied systematically. The results show that the comprehensive properties and especially salt‐resistant ability of PAA‐AM/KHA were enhanced. There was a linear relationship between the saturated water absorbency and the minus square root of the ionic strength of the external medium, and the water absorbency of PAA‐AM/KHA in various salt solutions had the following order: NH4Cl(aq) = KCl(aq) = NaCl(aq) > MgCl2(aq) > CaCl2(aq) > AlCl3(aq) > FeCl3(aq). Moreover, the polymeric net structure of PAA‐AM/KHA was examined with respect to that of poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide). The results indicate that the polymeric net of PAA‐AM/KHA was improved by the introduction of a moderate amount of KHA into the superabsorbent composite and made more suitable for agriculture and horticulture applications. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A fast‐swelling superabsorbent composite was prepared by solution polymerization of acrylate, acrylamide, 2‐acryloylamino‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonic acid and oxidized starch phosphate. Ethanol, propyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, and sodium bicarbonate were used as foaming agents to produce fast‐swelling characteristics. The structure of the superabsorbent composite was characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The influences of the amount of water, acrylamide, 2‐acryloylamino‐2‐methyl‐1‐propanesulfonic acid, oxidized starch phosphate, initiator, and trihydroxymethyl propane glycidol ether, as well as the neutralization degree of acrylic acid on the equilibrium swelling degree and swelling rate of the superabsorbent composite, were investigated. The equilibrium swelling degree of the superabsorbent composite prepared in a 0.9 wt% NaCl aqueous solution was 52 g g?1, and the swelling rate reached 0.86 mL g?1 s?1. The swelling kinetics was also investigated, and the results indicate that swelling of the superabsorbent composites obeys Schott's pseudo second‐order kinetics model. POLYM. ENG. A series of novel multifunctional poly (acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide) (PAA‐AM)/organomontmorillonite (O‐MMT)/sodium humate (SH) superabsorbent composites were synthesized by the graft copolymerization reaction of partially neutralized acrylic acid and acrylamide on O‐MMT micropowder and SH with N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide as a crosslinker and ammonium persulfate as an initiator in an aqueous solution. The superabsorbent composites were characterized by means of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The effect of the relative weight ratio of SH to O‐MMT on the water absorbency was studied, and the results indicated that the best water absorbency of 591 g/g in distilled water was obtained when an O‐MMT content of 20 wt % and an SH content of 30 wt % were incorporated. The superabsorbent composite possessed a good capacity for water retention; even after 30 days, 24.4 wt % of water could still be saved by the sand soil containing 1.0 wt % superabsorbent composite. The results from this study show that the water absorbency of a superabsorbent composite is improved by the simultaneous introduction of O‐MMT and SH into a PAA‐AM network in comparison with the incorporation of only O‐MMT or SH. Also, in comparison with PAA‐AM/MMT/SH, an appropriate amount of O‐MMT can benefit the developed composites with respect to their water absorbency, salt resistance, and capacity for water retention in sand soil. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel poly(acrylic acid)/attapulgite (APT)/sodium humate (SH) superabsorbent composite was synthesized through the graft copolymerization reaction of acrylic acid on APT micropowder and SH with N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide as a crosslinker and ammonium persulfate as an initiator in an aqueous solution. Various effects on the water absorbency, including the amounts of the crosslinker, initiator, APT, and SH, were investigated. The superabsorbent composite was characterized with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. The superabsorbent composite synthesized under optimal synthesis conditions with an APT concentration of 20% and an SH concentration of 20% exhibited absorption of 583 g of H2O/g of sample and 63 g of H2O/g of sample in distilled water and in a 0.9 wt % NaCl solution, respectively. The slow‐release property of SH from the superabsorbent composite into water was measured, and a test of the water retention of the superabsorbent composite in soil was also carried out experimentally with and without the superabsorbent composite. The results showed that the superabsorbent composite had not only good water retention but also an additional slow‐release property of SH. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We have synthesized series of superabsorbent polymers (SAPs) by solution free radical polymerization of acrylic acid (AA), acrylamide (AM) with different functional monomers (FM). Three functional monomers including zwitterionic monomer [3‐(methacryloylamino) propyl] dimethyl (3‐sulfopropyl) ammonium (MPDSA), cationic monomer (3‐acrylamidopropyl) trimethylammonium chloride (APTAC) and anionic monomer 2‐acrylamidoglycolic acid monohydrate (AGAM) were selected to provide different charged groups on the superabsorbents. The effect of reaction parameters, such as degree of neutralization, content of initiator and crosslinker on the swelling capacity were assessed. The water absorbency of the superabsorbent were characterized in the distilled water, 0.9 wt % NaCl solution and the mixed solution containing 60 mg L?1 CaCl2 and 30 mg L?1 MgCl2, respectively. In addition, the swelling rate and water retention capacity in the soil were also investigated. Finally, the mechanism of different absorbency induced by the variety kinds of functional monomers was studied by XPS and FTIR, and tentative interpretation was presented as well. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A novel semi‐interpenetrating polymer networks (semi‐IPNs) porous salt‐resistant superabsorbent composite was prepared by copolymerization of partially neutralized acrylic acid and acrylamide using polyethylene glycol as semi‐IPNs composite, N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide, triene propanol phosphate, and trihydroxymethyl propane glycidol ether as crosslinking agents, methanol, propanol, and butanol as foaming agents, and L ‐ascorbic acid and peroxide hydrogen as initiators. To improve the properties of swollen hydrogel, such as strength, resilience, permeabilities, and dispersion, the copolymer was surface‐crosslinked, and then blended with aluminum sulfate, sodium carbonate, and sodium 1‐octadecanol phosphate in the course of post treatment. The influences of reaction conditions on properties of superabsorbent composite were investigated and optimized, and the water absorbency of superabsorbent composite prepared at optimal conditions in 0.9 wt% NaCl aqueous solution under atmospheric pressure and certain load (P ≈ 2 × 103 Pa) were 61 g g?1 and 16.7 g g?1, respectively. Moreover, the swelling rate reached 22.003 × 10?3 g (g s)?1. And the excellent hydrogel properties, such as hydrogel strength, resilience, permeabilities, and dispersion were also obtained. POLYM. Mechanical properties of semi‐interpenetrating polymer network (semi‐IPN) elastomers consisting of chemical networks and self‐associative/non‐associative guest chains are demonstrated. Amorphous low Tg polyesters with thiol side groups (PE‐SH) are first synthesized by melt polycondensation. PE‐SH are then converted to polyesters containing COOH side groups (PE‐COOH) and amide side groups (PE‐amide) through Michael addition reaction of thiol groups with acrylic acid and acrylamide, respectively. Homogeneous semi‐IPN elastomers are obtained by thermal cross‐linking for bulk mixtures of PE‐COOH and PE‐amide in the presence of diepoxy cross‐linkers, where COOH and epoxy groups are reacted to form chemical cross‐links while the amide units form self‐complementary hydrogen bonds. Another sample containing non‐associative chains is also prepared by using polyester with N,N‐dimethylamide units, instead of PE‐amide. Dynamic mechanical analysis reveals that guest chain incorporation systematically brings plateau modulus reduction and a unique relaxation with higher tan δ value depending on the fraction and nature of guest chains. Tensile properties are also affected by the fraction and nature of guest chains; the incorporation of hydrogen bonded chains are beneficial to enhance breaking elongation and toughness without the sacrifice of maximum stress. The knowledge found in this work will be thus beneficial for creating tough soft materials with damping applications.  相似文献

An interpenetrating network of acrylic acid (AA)‐based superabsorbents and sodium PVA sulfate (SPS) were prepared by copolymerizing AA and N,N′‐methylene bisacrylamide as a crosslinking monomer in a solution of SPS with KPS, a radical initiator. The SPS was prepared through the sulfation of the hydroxyl groups of PVA with DMF‐SO3 complex in DMSO. The AA‐based superabsorbent interpenetrated with SPS (SA‐IP‐SPS) showed superior properties such as higher water and saline absorbency, absorbency under load (AUL), and water retention value (WRV) compared with AA‐based superabsorbent due to the interpenetrated SPS. The maximum water and saline absorbency of SA‐IP‐SPS was 1753 and 125.6 g/g, respectively. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 78: 2525–2532, 2000  相似文献

Acrylic‐based superabsorbent polymers with partial‐neutralized acrylic acid were synthesized by inverse suspension polymerization. The effects of reaction parameters, including the concentration of crosslinking agent and initiator, the neutralization degree of monomer, the monomer concentration, and phase ratio of a system, on the water absorption have been investigated. Furthermore, to improve the properties of salt‐resistance and antielectrolyte for the polymer, acrylamide monomer containing nonionic and hydrophilic groups was introduced into the system, which can suppress the salt effect and homoion effect. The water absorption Q5/3 is proportional to the reciprocal of ionic strength, 1/S, which follows Flory's elasticity gel theory. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects on water absorbency of factors such as reaction temperature, initial monomer concentration, and degree of neutralization of AA, amount of crosslinker, initiator, and sodium humate were investigated. The superabsorbent composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, and the graft copolymerization reaction of AA on sodium humate micropowder was characterized by IR spectroscopy. Results obtained from this study show that the water absorbency of the superabsorbent composite synthesized under optimal conditions for synthesis with a sodium humate content of 5.3% exhibited absorption of 684 g H2O/g sample in distilled water. A novel superabsorbent polymer composite was successfully synthesized from waste material cultured Auricularia auricula (WMCAA) and poly (acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide) (P(AA‐co‐AM)) using microwave irradiation. Optimal synthesis conditions were determined by investigating the water absorbency of the superabsorbent composite. The effects associated with weight ratios of WMCAA, acrylamide (AM) monomers, initiators, and acrylic acid (AA) crosslinkers, as well as the degree of neutralization of AA were examined. The maximum water absorbencies were found to be 1548 g/g (distilled water) and 72 g/g (0.9% NaCl solution). Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was applied to determine the molecular structure of the superabsorbent composite, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was used to demonstrate the characteristic compact and porous structure of the material. Further studies conducted via transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed the formation of a novel interpenetrating polymer network structure. Thermogravimetry/differential thermal (TG/DTG) analysis demonstrated improved thermal stability in the composite material compared with WMCAA. Additionally, high water absorption rates observed in the polymer during the swelling process indicated first‐order kinetics. The water absorption and adsorption of the superabsorbent composite were studied in a variety of fertilizer solutions, revealing an indirect relationship between water absorbing ability and fertilizer concentration. Conversely, a direct relationship was observed between absorbed fertilizer and fertilizer concentration. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci. 130: 3674–3681, 2013  相似文献

In this work, the effects of different cation‐exchanged montmorillonite on water absorbency of poly(acrylic acid‐co‐acrylamide)/montmorillonite/sodium humate (PAA‐AM/MMT/SH) superabsorbent composite were systematically investigated under the same preparation conditions. The superabsorbents doped with different cation‐exchanged montmorillonite were characterized by Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy technologies. Swelling behaviors of developing superabsorbent composite in various cationic saline solutions (NaCl, CaCl2, and FeCl3) were also investigated. The water absorbencies of superabsorbent composite with 20 wt% MMT and 30 wt% SH are 638, 723, 682, and 363 g g−1 in distilled water for incorporating natural Na+‐MMT, Li+‐exchanged MMT, Ca2+‐exchanged MMT, and Al3+‐exchanged MMT, respectively. The results showed that the cation‐exchange process had some obvious influences on final water absorbency of superabsorbent composite. NaCl, CaCl2, and FeCl3 solutions did not alter the swelling characteristics of the superabsorbent materials at a concentration of less than 0.01 mM, however, a concentration of greater than 0.1 mM caused a collapse in the swelling curves. The excellent swelling‐reswelling‐swelling behavior and lower swelling rate testified that Al3+‐exchanged MMT can act as an assistant crosslinker in the polymeric network. POLYM.
