Theoretical analysis shows that, to improve the resolution and the range of the field of view of the reconstructed image in digital lensless Fourier transform holography, an effective solution is to increase the area and the pixel number of the recorded digital hologram. A new approach based on the synthetic aperture technique and use of linear CCD scanning is presented to obtain digital holographic images with high resolution and a wide field of view. By using a synthetic aperture technique and linear CCD scanning, we obtained digital lensless Fourier transform holograms with a large area of 3.5 cm x 3.5 cm (5000 x 5000 pixels). The numerical reconstruction of a 4 mm object at a distance of 14 cm by use of a Rayleigh-Sommerfeld integral shows that a theoretically minimum resolvable distance of 2.57 microm can be achieved at a wavelength of 632.8 nm. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical analysis.  相似文献

Digital holography appears to be a strong contender as the next-generation technology for holographic diagnostics of particle fields and holographic particle image velocimetry for flow field measurement. With the digital holographic approach, holograms are directly recorded by a digital camera and reconstructed numerically. This not only eliminates wet chemical processing and mechanical scanning, but also enables the use of complex amplitude information inaccessible by optical reconstruction, thereby allowing flexible reconstruction algorithms to achieve optimization of specific information. However, owing to the inherently low pixel resolution of solid-state imaging sensors, digital holography gives poor depth resolution for images, a problem that severely impairs the usefulness of digital holography especially in densely populated particle fields. This paper describes a technique that significantly improves particle axial-location accuracy by exploring the reconstructed complex amplitude information, compared with other numerical reconstruction schemes that merely mimic traditional optical reconstruction. This novel method allows accurate extraction of particle locations from forward-scattering particle holograms even at high particle loadings.  相似文献

We report a technique to determine the 3D contour of objects with dimensions of at least 4 orders of magnitude larger than the illumination optical wavelength. Our proposal is based on the numerical reconstruction of the optical wave field of digitally recorded holograms. The required modulo 2pi phase map in any contouring process is obtained by means of the direct subtraction of two phase-contrast images under different illumination angles to create a phase-difference image of a still object. Obtaining the phase-difference images is only possible by using the capability of numerical reconstruction of the complex optical field provided by digital holography. This unique characteristic leads us to a robust, reliable, and fast procedure that requires only two images. A theoretical analysis of the contouring system is shown, with verification by means of numerical and experimental results.  相似文献

Digital holography is an imaging technique that enables recovery of topographic 3D information about an object under investigation. In digital holography, an interference pattern is recorded on a digital camera. Therefore, quantization of the recorded hologram is an integral part of the imaging process. We study the influence of quantization error in the recorded holograms on the fidelity of both the intensity and phase of the reconstructed image. We limit our analysis to the case of lensless Fourier off-axis digital holograms. We derive a theoretical model to predict the effect of quantization noise and we validate this model using experimental results. Based on this, we also show how the resultant noise in the reconstructed image, as well as the speckle that is inherent in digital holography, can be conveniently suppressed by standard speckle reduction techniques. We show that high-quality images can be obtained from binary holograms when speckle reduction is performed.  相似文献

We discuss quantization effects of hologram recording on the quality of reconstructed images in phase-shifting digital holography. We vary bit depths of phase-shifted holograms in both numerical simulation and experiments and then derived the complex amplitude, which is subjected to Fresnel transformation for the image reconstruction. The influence of bit-depth limitation in quantization has been demonstrated in a numerical simulation for spot-array patterns with linearly varying intensities and a continuous intensity object. The objects are provided with uniform and random phase modulation. In experiments, digital holograms are originally recorded at 8 bits and the bit depths are changed to deliver holograms at bit depths of 1 to 8 bits for the image reconstruction. The quality of the reconstructed images has been evaluated for the different quantization levels.  相似文献

A method for numerical reconstruction of digitally recorded holograms with variable magnification is presented. The proposed strategy allows for smaller, equal, or larger magnification than that achieved with Fresnel transform by introducing the Bluestein substitution into the Fresnel kernel. The magnification is obtained independent of distance, wavelength, and number of pixels, which enables the method to be applied in color digital holography and metrological applications. The approach is supported by experimental and simulation results in digital holography of objects of comparable dimensions with the recording device and in the reconstruction of holograms from digital in-line holographic microscopy.  相似文献

To apply digital holography to the measurement of three-dimensional dense particle fields in large facilities, we have developed a hybrid digital holographic particle-imaging system. The technique combines the advantages of off-axis (side) scattering in suppressing speckle noise and on-axis (in-line) recording in lowering the digital sensor resolution requirement. A camera lens is attached to the digital sensor to compensate for the weak object wave from side scattering over a large recording distance. A simple numerical reconstruction algorithm is developed for holograms recorded with a lens without requiring complex and impractical mathematical corrections. We analyze the effect of image sensor resolution and off-axis angle on system performance and quantify the particle positioning accuracy of the system. The holographic system is successfully applied to the study of inertial particle clustering in isotropic turbulence.  相似文献

We propose an algorithm for compensating the phase-shift error of polarization-based parallel two-step phase-shifting digital holography, which is a technique for recording a spatial two-step phase-shifted hologram. Although a polarization-based system of the technique has been experimentally demonstrated, there had been the problem that the phase difference of two phase-shifted holograms had been changed by the extinction ratio of the micropolarizer array attached to the image sensor used in the system. To improve the performance of the system, we established and formulated an algorithm for compensating the phase-shift error. Accurate spatial phase-shifting interferometry in the system can be conducted by the algorithm regardless of phase-shift error due to the extinction ratio. By the numerical simulation, the proposed algorithm was capable of reducing the root mean square errors of the reconstructed image by 1/4 and 1/5 in amplitude and phase, respectively. Also, the algorithm was experimentally demonstrated, and the experimental results showed that the system employing the proposed algorithm suppressed the conjugate image, which slightly appeared in the image reconstructed by the system not employing the algorithm, even when the extinction ratio was 10:1. Thus, the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was numerically and experimentally verified.  相似文献

We describe a simple technique for coaxial holographic image recording and reconstruction, employing a spatial light modulator (SLM) modified in pure phase mode. In the image encoding system, both the reference beam in the outside part and the signal beam in the inside part are displayed by an SLM based on the twisted nematic LCD. For a binary image, the part with amplitude of "1" is modulated with random phase, while the part with amplitude of "0" is modulated with constant phase. After blocking the dc component of the spatial frequencies, a Fourier transform (FT) hologram is recorded with a uniform intensity distribution. The amplitude image is reconstructed by illuminating the reference beam onto the hologram, which is much simpler than existing phase modulated FT holography techniques. The technique of coaxial holographic image encoding and recovering with pure phase modulation is demonstrated theoretically and experimentally in this paper. As the holograms are recorded without the high-intensity dc component, the storage density with volume medium may be increased with the increase of dynamic range. Such a simple modulation method will have potential applications in areas such as holographic encryption and high-density disk storage systems.  相似文献

Advantages of the lensless Fourier holography setup for the reconstruction of digitally recorded holograms in holographic interferometry are presented. This very simple setup helps to achieve a maximum lateral resolution of the object under investigation. Also, the numerical-reconstruction algorithm is very simple and fast to compute. A mathematical model based on Fourier optics is used to describe discretization effects and to determine the lateral resolution. The recording and the reconstruction processes are regarded as an optical imaging system, and the point-spread function is calculated. Results are verified by an experimental setup for a combined shape and deformation measurement.  相似文献

Recently, optical image coding using a circular Dammann grating (CDG) has been proposed and investigated. However, the proposed technique is intensity based and could not be used for three-dimensional (3D) image coding. In this paper, we investigate an optical image coding technique that is complex-amplitude based. The system can be used for 3D image coding. The complex-amplitude coding is provided by a circular Dammann grating through the use of a digital holographic recording technique called optical scanning holography. To decode the image, along the depth we record a series of pinhole holograms coded by the CDG. The decoded reconstruction of each depth location is extracted by the measured pinhole hologram matched to the desired depth. Computer simulations as well as experimental results are provided.  相似文献

A technique based on superresolution by digital holographic microscopic imaging is presented. We used a two dimensional (2-D) vertical-cavity self-emitting laser (VCSEL) array as spherical-wave illumination sources. The method is defined in terms of an incoherent superposition of tilted wavefronts. The tilted spherical wave originating from the 2-D VCSEL elements illuminates the target in transmission mode to obtain a hologram in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer configuration. Superresolved images of the input object above the common lens diffraction limit are generated by sequential recording of the individual holograms and numerical reconstruction of the image with the extended spatial frequency range. We have experimentally tested the approach for a microscope objective with an exact 2-D reconstruction image of the input object. The proposed approach has implementation advantages for applications in biological imaging or the microelectronic industry in which structured targets are being inspected.  相似文献

Conventional and digital holographies are proving to be increasingly important for studies of marine zooplankton and other underwater biological applications. This paper reports on the use of a subsea digital holographic camera (eHoloCam) for the analysis and identification of marine organisms and other subsea particles. Unlike recording on a photographic film, a digital hologram (e-hologram) is recorded on an electronic sensor and reconstructed numerically in a computer by simulating the propagation of the optical field in space. By comparison with other imaging techniques, an e-hologram has several advantages such as three-dimensional spatial reconstruction, non-intrusive and non-destructive interrogation of the recording sampling volume and the ability to record holographic videos. The basis of much work in optics lies in Maxwell's electromagnetic theory and holography is no exception: we report here on two of the numerical reconstruction algorithms we have used to reconstruct holograms obtained using eHoloCam and how their starting point lies in Maxwell's equations. Derivation of the angular spectrum algorithm for plane waves is provided as an exact method for the in-line numerical reconstruction of digital holograms. The Fresnel numerical reconstruction algorithm is derived from the angular spectrum method. In-line holograms are numerically processed before and after reconstruction to remove periodic noise from captured images and to increase image contrast. The ability of the Fresnel integration reconstruction algorithm to extend the reconstructed volume beyond the recording sensor dimensions is also shown with a 50% extension of the reconstruction area. Finally, we present some images obtained from recent deployments of eHoloCam in the North Sea and Faeroes Channel.  相似文献

We propose a scheme to improve the reconstructed image in parallel quasi-phase-shifting digital holography. Parallel quasi-phase-shifting digital holography is a technique capable of noiseless instantaneous measurement of three-dimensional objects, and it implements four kinds of phase shifting at a time with an array of 2 x 2 phase-shifting devices located in the reference wave. In the phase-shifting calculation in the reconstruction process of the technique, the scheme assigns the 2 x 2 cell configuration for each pixel in the vertical direction and for each 1-pixel interval in the horizontal direction of the hologram recorded by the image sensor. We conduct both a numerical simulation and a preliminary experiment. The results show that the proposed scheme can improve the quality of the reconstructed image calculated by the conventional scheme of parallel quasi-phase-shifting digital holography we previously proposed, and then the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified.  相似文献

Conventional numerical reconstruction for digital holography using a filter applied in the spatial-frequency domain to extract the primary image may yield suboptimal image quality because of the loss in high-frequency components and interference from other undesirable terms of a hologram. We propose a new numerical reconstruction approach using a statistical technique. This approach reconstructs the complex field of the object from the real-valued hologram intensity data. Because holographic image reconstruction is an ill-posed problem, our statistical technique is based on penalized-likelihood estimation. We develop a Poisson statistical model for this problem and derive an optimization transfer algorithm that monotonically decreases the cost function at each iteration. Simulation results show that our statistical technique has the potential to improve image quality in digital holography relative to conventional reconstruction techniques.  相似文献

When a digital hologram is reconstructed, only points located at the reconstruction distance are in focus. We have developed a novel technique for creating an in-focus image of the macroscopic objects encoded in a digital hologram. This extended focused image is created by combining numerical reconstructions with depth information extracted by using our depth-from-focus algorithm. To our knowledge, this is the first technique that creates extended focused images of digital holograms encoding macroscopic objects. We present results for digital holograms containing low- and high-contrast macroscopic objects.  相似文献

An optical system based on short-coherence digital holography suitable for three-dimensional (3D) microscopic investigations is described. The light source is a short-coherence laser, and the holograms are recorded on a CCD sensor. The interference (hologram) occurs only when the path lengths of the reference and the object beam are matched within the coherence length of the laser. The image of the part of the sample that matches the reference beam is reconstructed by numerical evaluation of the hologram. The advantages of the method are high numerical aperture (this means high spatial resolution), detection of the 3D shape, and a lensless imaging system. Experimental results are presented.  相似文献

We propose a color digital holography by using spectral estimation technique to improve the color reproduction of objects. In conventional color digital holography, there is insufficient spectral information in holograms, and the color of the reconstructed images depend on only reflectances at three discrete wavelengths used in the recording of holograms. Therefore the color-composite image of the three reconstructed images is not accurate in color reproduction. However, in our proposed method, the spectral estimation technique was applied, which has been reported in multispectral imaging. According to the spectral estimation technique, the continuous spectrum of object can be estimated and the color reproduction is improved. The effectiveness of the proposed method was confirmed by a numerical simulation and an experiment, and, in the results, the average color differences are decreased from 35.81 to 7.88 and from 43.60 to 25.28, respectively.  相似文献

Recent developments in computer algorithms, image sensors, and microfabrication technologies make it possible to digitize the whole process of classical holography. This technique, referred to as digitized holography, allows us to create fine spatial three-dimensional (3D) images composed of virtual and real objects. In the technique, the wave field of real objects is captured in a wide area and at very high resolution using the technique of synthetic aperture digital holography. The captured field is incorporated in virtual 3D scenes including two-dimensional digital images and 3D polygon mesh objects. The synthetic field is optically reconstructed using the technique of computer-generated holograms. The reconstructed 3D images present all depth cues like classical holograms but are digitally editable, archivable, and transmittable unlike classical holograms. The synthetic hologram printed by a laser lithography system has a wide viewing zone in full-parallax and give viewers a strong sensation of depth, which has never been achieved by conventional 3D systems. A real hologram as well as the details of the technique is presented to verify the proposed technique.  相似文献
