Austrian electronic card contract awarded to German manufacturer

The contract to supply Austria with a smart social insurance card has been awarded to German smart card manufacturer Giesecke & Devrient (G&D). The Central Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions ordered the 48 million euro e-card system as a replacement to the country's out-of-date paper-based healthcare voucher scheme.     

ACT wins UK asylum seeker card contract

Applied Card Technologies has won the contract to design and develop the smart card system behind the UK’s ‘Cash Payment for Asylum Seekers’ scheme. The deal was awarded by SodexhoPass UK and involves programming of point-of-sale terminals and installation of a communications server system. Gemplus to appeal court decision

In a blow to smart card manufacturer Gemplus International, the Commercial Court of Marseille has ruled against the supplier's French subsidiary Gemplus in a lawsuit related to smart card solutions in the casino market.     

Gemplus performs massive OTA download

Gemplus has carried out a huge Over The Air (OTA) download campaign, on behalf of ALJAWAL (the Mobile Business unit of Saudi Telecom). In total the operation treated some 6.3 million SIM cards – many of which came from multiple suppliers, demonstrating the interoperability of the solution.     

Gemplus delivers new MasterCard cards

French smart card manufacturer Gemplus has announced the delivery of next generation MasterCard payment smart cards to a Russian Standard Bank. According to the supplier, the deal was the first worldwide delivery of the MasterCard M/Chip version 4 card.
