Compact shorted variations of circular microstrip antennas   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
A circular microstrip antenna has been modified by shorting along the zero field to yield shorted semi-circular and 90° sectoral microstrip antennas. Experimental results on these antennas are presented. The shorted 90° sectoral antenna results in a size reduction of four times without any significant change in performance. The area is further reduced by partially shorting one of the edges of the 90° sectoral antenna  相似文献

Hybrid-coupled (both gap and direct) shorted rectangular microstrip antennas have been investigated. Only one patch is fed and the other patch is parasitically coupled along the radiating and the non-radiating edges, respectively. Loading a triangular microstrip antenna with a shorting pin can significantly reduce the antenna size at a given operating frequency. Experimental results of such a triangular microstrip antenna are presented. Variations of the resonant frequency of the triangular microstrip patch with different shorting-pin positions are given, and comparisons of the compact and conventional triangular microstrip antennas are also presented and discussed  相似文献

Two broadband configurations consisting of three hybrid-coupled equilateral and isosceles triangular microstrip antennas have been proposed. Both configurations yield more than four times the bandwidth as compared with the corresponding single triangular microstrip antenna. The radiation pattern of a hybrid-coupled isosceles triangular microstrip antenna is in the broadside direction with very small variation over the entire bandwidth. In addition, this antenna has wide half power beamwidth, making it suitable as an element for the large scan broadband antenna array.  相似文献

A broadband E-shaped microstrip antenna is discussed. Its bandwidth is further increased by cutting a pair of tapered slots. Using the even-mode symmetry of an E-shaped microstrip antenna, a compact single slot loaded rectangular microstrip antenna is proposed, which reduces the antenna size by half.  相似文献

We have investigated the application of two different types of novel shorted-patch antennas for mobile communications handsets at 1800 MHz. A single shorted-patch and a stacked shorted-patch antenna offering improved bandwidth are compared with data for a λ/4 monopole. The finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) technique was used to calculate antenna characteristics such as impedance and radiation patterns for two cases: on a handset and on a handset near a (2.5-mm voxel) heterogeneous head model in an actual position of phone use. We also obtained specific absorption rate (SAR) distributions and calculated the spatial peak 1-g SAR values. In addition, the effect on SAR and antenna characteristics of including a block model of the hand was assessed. Similar performance is achieved from the single or stacked shorted-patch antenna with the latter providing greater bandwidth, 8.2% versus 9.4% with the head and hand included. Both antennas reduce the l-g spatial peak SAR value in the head by 70% relative to the monopole. The presence of the hand reduces the efficiency of all three antenna types by approximately 10%  相似文献

A single-feed triangular microstrip patch antenna that can be operated at two distinct resonant modes is proposed. The two resonant modes can radiate an omnidirectional dipole-like pattern with linear polarisation and a broadside pattern with circular polarisation, respectively. To achieve the required frequency ratio of the two operating frequency bands, several designs of the proposed antennas with different substrate thickness and patch sizes are studied. In addition, these designs can easily obtain a 50 /spl Omega/ input impedance without any additional matching circuit. Details of the antenna design and obtained performance are presented.  相似文献

The analysis of microstrip antennas is greatly simplified by a technique which separates the interior fields of the antenna from its exterior fields through the application of an admittance boundary condition at the periphery of the antenna. The goal of this investigation is to determine the accuracy to which one must obtain this "wall" admittance in order to predict operating parameters to a specified tolerance. For a typical microstrip antenna the "wall" admittance must be known to within 4 percent to predict the operating frequency to 0.5 percent.  相似文献

By loading properly arranged slots in an equilateral-triangular microstrip patch, novel dual-frequency and broad-band operations of a single-feed triangular microstrip antenna are presented. For dual-frequency operation, the proposed design is achieved by loading two pairs of narrow slots in the triangular patch, one embedded close to the side edges of the patch and the other inserted at the bottom edge of the patch. The obtained two operating frequencies are of same polarization planes and by varying the positions and lengths of the inserted slots at the bottom edge of the patch, a tunable frequency ratio of the two frequencies ranging from about 1.16 to 2.06 is obtained. Furthermore, it is found that by protruding a narrow slot out of the embedded slots close to the side edges, broad-band operation of the triangular microstrip antenna near its fundamental resonant mode can be achieved. Results show that the antenna bandwidth of the proposed broad-band design can be greater than 2.6 times that of a conventional triangular microstrip antenna. Details of the proposed dual-frequency and broad-band designs are described and typical experimental results are presented and discussed  相似文献

In this article, an improved formula for the effective side length (a eff) of the equilateral triangular patch antenna is presented. The computed resonant frequencies for the first five modes, using this formula, are compared with the available experimental and theoretical results in the literature. It is shown that the proposed formula has better accuracy than other available expressions. Moreover, the 30°–60°–90° and 30°–30°–120° triangular patch antennas are studied. Specifically, improved formulae for the effective dielectric constant of these patches are derived.  相似文献

A new class of antennas using microstrips to form the feed networks and radiators is presented in this communication. These antennas have four distinct advantages: 1) cost, 2) performance, 3) ease of installation, and 4) the low profile conformal design. A novel dual-frequency patch antenna fed by a coplanar microstrip line is presented. By embedding a shorting pin in the microstrip feed line, the proposed antenna is capable of operating at two distinct modes with different radiation characteristics: omnidirectional shorting-pin-loaded patch mode and broadside regular patch mode. In addition, the frequency ratio of the two resonant frequencies is also tunable in the range 3.7-2.7 by loading an additional slot in the microstrip patch.  相似文献

The principles of using radiating microstrip resonators as elements in a frequency scanning antenna array are described. The resonators are cascade-coupled. This gives a scan of the main lobe due to the phase-shift in the resonator in addition to that created by the transmission line phase-shift. Experimental results inX-band, in good agreement with the theory, show that it is possible to scan the main lobe an angle ofpm30degby a variation of the frequencypm300MHz, and where the 3 dB beamwidth is less than10deg. The directivity was 14.7 dB, while the gain was 8.1 dB. The efficiency might be improved by a trade-off between the efficiency and the scanning angle, or by using a better amplitude distribution.  相似文献

Operating with a low-cost FET, oscillating CPW-fed microstrip antennas working at ~4 GHz have been presented. Because the design is based on slot or slot loop apertures, no via holes are required, These oscillating antennas are compact, easy to fabricate while providing uniform radiation patterns with cross-polarisation levels below -17 dB. Active integrated power combining arrays or active integrated phased arrays are possible future applications of these radiating elements  相似文献

A microstrip patch antenna fed by a circular waveguide is presented. The microstrip patch built on a foam substrate is laid on the flange of the circular waveguide's open mouth. The waveguide feeds the patch by coupling energy to the patch through a narrow slot underneath the patch. Two operating frequency bands were observed and the characteristics of the antenna were measured.  相似文献
