A truncated pyramid-type solar cooker is designed, fabricated and tested. The truncated pyramid geometry concentrates the incident light radiations towards the bottom and the glazing glass surface on the top facilitates the trapping of energy inside the cooker. One of the salient features of the proposed design is to completely eradicate the need for tracking the sun during cooking, as tracking of sun does not yield better performance. During testing, the highest plate stagnation temperature, under no-load condition, approached 140 °C and under full-load condition, water temperature inside the cooker reached 98.6 °C in 70 min. Two figures of merit, F1 and F2, were calculated and their values were 0.117° C m2/W and 0.467 °C l, respectively, meeting the standards prescribed by the Bureau of Indian Standards for solar box-type cookers. Minor modifications in design are recommended to achieve higher temperatures and reduce cooking times. The design also allows trays to be retained for use as a household dryer.  相似文献

During the last 25 years, the author has designed, constructed, studied and promoted solar oven, hybrid solar/electric oven, solar oven cum drier, solar cooker cum water heater and solar still. In different parts of the world, solar cookers have been made, studied, patented, however, their real uses are very limited due to many reasons—unstable climate, economic, cultural, social and single use, etc. In order to overcome part of the problems mainly the last one, author has recently designed one hybrid food processor (multi-purposes device) and studied various technical and practical aspects. It has been used for cooking, heating/pasteurizing water (to inactivate microbes) and distillation of small quantity of water (to remove different minerals) and drying domestic products (fruits, vegetables and condiments/herbs, etc.). For more than three years of use, author has found this to be a useful device, mainly from convenience, fuel saving, economic and also from ecological point of view. This device can be used at any time and for different uses but with the reduced consumption of conventional fuel.  相似文献

The main objective of this paper is to evaluate energy and environmental benefits of the large-scale solar heating system connection with district heating system. The assessment of fossil fuels substitution by the solar energy for the hot water production for domestic use, during the summer period, is done. Hot water for district heating and domestic use is produced in heating plant “Cerak” placed in the suburb of Belgrade. The existing production and distribution system are based on fossil fuel energy, mainly on the natural gas. In the first phase of the project plan was to install about 10,000 m2 of solar collectors to substitute nearly 25% of natural gas consumption. During the summer period, the saving of natural gas calculated for presented system is approximately 430,000 m3 and in this way 900 t of the CO2 emissions would be reduced.  相似文献

The performance of a novel device has been tested. The device can be used as a collector cum storage type solar water heater during the winter, and, with minor adjustments, it can be used as a hot-box solar cooker. The device can provide hot water at 50–60°C in the evening, which can be maintained at 40–45°C until the following morning. It can also be used for cooking food for about 40 people. The efficiencies of the device as a solar water heater and as a solar cooker have been found to be 67.7% and 29.8%, respectively. The payback period varies between 1.64 to 5.90 years depending on the fuel it replaces. The payback periods are of increasing length with respect to the fuels firewood, coal, electricity, LPG and kerosene.  相似文献

Domestic household thermosyphons are economically feasible and are used by over than 70% of houses in Palestine. Although domestic solar water heating for commercial applications has a good potential, only a few systems have been installed in Palestine. A systematic sizing approach for the solar system is presented in this paper and applied to a certain case study. The solar system sizing is based on the life-cycle cost LCC analysis. For the chosen case study of domestic water heating for a hotel, with hot water consumption of 2600 liters per day, the optimum collector area was found to be 37 m2, the solar fraction of heating 0.78, the LCC of system is SI 3778, with annual savings of 1338$/year and a pay back period of 3 years. With this optimized system, the cost of water heating is 1.8 $/m3comparing with 2.6 $/m3 for the conventional system.  相似文献

A solar stove which uses a light funnel to guide light and congregate solar energy has been designed. Its structure and operation principle have been introduced. The performance tests under the real weather have been carried out and the graphic lines of experiment have been given. The experimental result shows that the maximum temperature inside the stove is as high as 250 °C under the condition of 1.5 m2 of lighting area, 70% reflectivity of reflecting aluminum foil inside surface of concentrator and no load (without water inside the coil pipe). When reflectivity is 86% the heat collecting efficiency of the device is about 43%. The collecting power that the stove receives can be up to 500 W. It is an ideal medium and high temperature solar energy congregating device suitable for industrial usage or cooking and other domestic usage.  相似文献

A solar/gas cooling plant at the Engineering School of Seville (Spain) was tested during the period 2008-2009. The system is composed of a double-effect LiBr + water absorption chiller of 174 kW nominal cooling capacity, powered by: (1) a pressurized hot water flow delivered by mean of a 352 m2 solar field of a linear concentrating Fresnel collector and (2) a direct-fired natural gas burner. The objective of the project is to indentify design improvements for future plants and to serve as a guideline. We focused our attention on the solar collector size and dirtiness, climatology, piping heat losses, operation control and coupling between solar collector and chiller. The daily average Fresnel collector efficiency was 0.35 with a maximum of 0.4. The absorption chiller operated with a daily average coefficient of performance of 1.1-1.25, where the solar energy represented the 75% of generator’s total heat input, and the solar cooling ratio (quotient between useful cooling and insolation incident on the solar field) was 0.44.  相似文献

This paper describes a combined concentrating/oven type solar cooker. The device can be used for cooking, boiling and roasting of foods on clear days. The cooker makes use of both concentrator and flat-plate collector principles, wherein the sunlight entering the cooker is reflected onto a hood which is provided with a selective solar absorber coating which houses the cooking vessels. Hence, the cooker makes use of both direct and diffuse solar radiation. The important part of this new device is a stationary mode and maximum capture of energy through improved design. The new cooker has been found to be more practical in comparison with either the simple hot box type solar cooker or concentrator type cookers where one needs to direct it to follow the sun. The cooking trial shows that the new device can be used twice a day, even on winter days.  相似文献

The integrated collector–storage solar water heaters are less expensive and can offer the best alternative for domestic applications particularly to small families to meet hot water requirements. The top heat losses of such solar water heaters are quite high during the night and the temperature of stored hot water is considerably reduced unless covered with extra insulating cover in the evening which is a cumbersome job. The transparent insulation material widely used in Europe for space heating can also minimize top heat losses, if used in such solar water heaters. For this purpose, two units of solar collector cum storage water heaters have been designed to study the relative effect of TI for retaining solar heated hot water for a night duration. Both units were identical in all respects except one of them was covered with TIM. The theoretical exercise was carried out to evaluate design parameters of ISC which revealed total heat loss factor (UL) 1.03 W/m2 K with TIM glazed against 7.06 W/m2 K with glass glazed. The TIM glazed has been found to be quite effective as compared to glass glazed SWH and yielded hot water at higher temperature by 8.5 to 9.5°C the next morning. The storage efficiency of such solar water heaters has been found to be 39.8% with TIM glazed as compared to 15.1% without TIM. The TIM glazing means not having to cover the ISC solar water heater with a separate insulator cover in the evening and thus makes its operation much simpler.  相似文献

A parabolic solar cooker with automatic two axes sun tracking system was designed, constructed, operated and tested to overcome the need for frequent tracking and standing in the sun, facing all concentrating solar cookers with manual tracking, and a programmable logic controller was used to control the motion of the solar cooker. The results of the continuous test – performed for three days from 8:30 h to 16:30 h in the year 2008 – showed that the water temperature inside the cooker’s tube reached 90 °C in typical summer days, when the maximum registered ambient temperature was 36 °C. It was also noticed that the water temperature increases when the ambient temperature gets higher or when the solar intensity is abundant. This is in favor of utilizing this cooker in many developing countries, which are characterized by high solar insulations and high temperatures. Besides cooking, the proposed cooker could be utilized for warming food, drinks as well as to pasteurize water or milk.  相似文献

A domestic-scale prototype experimental solar cooling system has been developed based on a LiBr/H2O absorption system and tested during the 2007 summer and autumn months in Cardiff University, UK. The system consisted of a 12 m2 vacuum tube solar collector, a 4.5 kW LiBr/H2O absorption chiller, a 1000 l cold storage tank and a 6 kW fan coil. The system performance, as well as the performances of the individual components in the system, were evaluated based on the physical measurements of the daily solar radiation, ambient temperature, inlet and outlet fluid temperatures, mass flow rates and electrical consumption by component. The average coefficient of thermal performance (COP) of the system was 0.58, based on the thermal cooling power output per unit of available thermal solar energy from the 12 m2 Thermomax DF100 vacuum tube collector on a hot sunny day with average peak insolation of 800 W/m2 (between 11 and 13.30 h) and ambient temperature of 24 °C. The system produced an electrical COP of 3.6. Experimental results prove the feasibility of the new concept of cold store at this scale, with chilled water temperatures as low as 7.4 °C, demonstrating its potential use in cooling domestic scale buildings.  相似文献

This paper presents the fabrication details and on-field experimental studies of two novel solar cookers, suitable for cooking requirements of small families; these are named as small family solar cookers (SFSC-1 and SFSC-2). Small size, good thermal performance, light weight, low-cost and short payback periods are some important features of these cookers. The values of some essential thermal performance parameters, first figure of merit (F1), second figure of merit (F2) and standard cooking power suggested by Bureau of Indian Standards and International Standard for box-type solar cookers, have been evaluated by experimental studies and found to be 0.116°C m2/W, 0.466, 30 W and 0.118°C m2/W, 0.488, 50 W for SFSC-1 and SFSC-2, respectively. A comparative analysis of the thermal performances of SFSCs with the solar cookers, developed by many authors, has also been presented here. The payback periods with respect to different cooking fuels for SFSCs have been found to be reasonably short.  相似文献

A tube-type solar still is found to be suitable for use in desert irrigation. The effectiveness of a heat accumulator with regard to distillate productivity is experimentally and numerically verified. The heat accumulator consists of tube bundles immersed in wax in order to utilize the latent heat of wax. The dynamic response to stepwise variation of irradiative intensity verified the contribution of wax to an increase of productivity only when the phase change of wax occurred. The effective distillate productivity was found to be 294.3 g/m2 during the cyclic stepwise change of irradiative intensity, from 200 to 600 W/m2 and back. Velocity vectors driven by natural convection and temperature contours estimated by numerical simulation verified the effectiveness of the heat accumulator especially after peak solar intensity. The latent heat of wax effectively contributed to a 15% increase in total distillate productivity per day. The still can feasibly meet irrigation water supply demands above an irrigative threshold of 17 MJ/m2 d.  相似文献

The long-term system simulation and economic analysis of solar-assisted cooling/heating system (SACH-2) was carried out in order to find an economical design. The solar heat driven ejector cooling system (ECS) is used to provide part of the cooling load to reduce the energy consumption of the air conditioner installed as the base-load cooler. A standard SACH-2 system for cooling load 3.5 kW (1 RT) and daily cooling time 10 h is used for case study. The cooling performance is assumed only in summer seasons from May to October. In winter season from November to April, only heat is supplied. Two installation locations (Taipei and Tainan) were examined. It was found from the cooling performance simulation that in order to save 50% energy of the air conditioner, the required solar collector area is 40 m2 in Taipei and 31 m2 in Tainan, for COPj = 0.2. If the solar collector area is designed as 20 m2, the solar ejector cooling system will supply about 17–26% cooling load in Taipei in summer season and about 21–27% cooling load in Tainan. Simulation for long-term performance including cooling in summer (May–October) and hot water supply in winter (November–April) was carried out to determine the monthly-average energy savings. The corresponding daily hot water supply (with 40 °C temperature rise of water) for 20 m2 solar collector area is 616–858 L/day in Tainan and 304–533 L/day in Taipei. The economic analysis shows that the payback time of SACH-2 decreases with increasing cooling capacity. The payback time is 4.8 years in Tainan and 6.2 years in Taipei when the cooling capacity >10 RT. If the ECS is treated as an additional device used as a protective equipment to avoid overheating of solar collectors and to convert the excess solar heat in summer into cooling to reduce the energy consumption of air conditioner, the payback time is less than 3 years for cooling capacity larger than 3 RT.  相似文献

To increase the fractional energy savings achieved with solar thermal combisystems the store volume may be increased. Installation of large stores in single-family houses is, however, often limited by space constraints. In this article the influence of the store dimensions, as well as internal and external auxiliary volume configurations, are investigated for large solar water stores by annual dynamic TRNSYS simulations. The results show that store sizes up to 4 m3 may be used in solar heating systems with 30 m2 collector area. It is further shown that well-insulated stores are rather insensitive to the geometry. Stores deviating from the conventional dimensions still yield high fractional energy savings. Furthermore, the simulations show that the performance of an internal auxiliary volume configuration in most cases exceeds that of a solution with an external auxiliary unit. The practical limitations of very thin auxiliary volumes must, however, be further investigated.  相似文献

An improved hot box type solar cooker (SC-2) has been designed, developed and tested. It is an improvement on the solar cooker SC-1 earlier developed at the institute. The cooking chamber has properly been optimized for cooking the food for a family of five persons. A rubber gasket has been provided at the boundary of the openable door to prevent the leakage of hot air, thus increasing the pressure in the cooking chamber. Different cooking trials like boiling, roasting and baking were successfully conducted and the cooker was found useful from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m., even during a winter month. The efficiency of the cooker was found to be 41.2 per cent.  相似文献

A solar thermal cooling and heating system at Carnegie Mellon University was studied through its design, installation, modeling, and evaluation to deal with the question of how solar energy might most effectively be used in supplying energy for the operation of a building. This solar cooling and heating system incorporates 52 m2 of linear parabolic trough solar collectors; a 16 kW double effect, water-lithium bromide (LiBr) absorption chiller, and a heat recovery heat exchanger with their circulation pumps and control valves. It generates chilled and heated water, dependent on the season, for space cooling and heating. This system is the smallest high temperature solar cooling system in the world. Till now, only this system of the kind has been successfully operated for more than one year. Performance of the system has been tested and the measured data were used to verify system performance models developed in the TRaNsient SYstem Simulation program (TRNSYS). On the basis of the installed solar system, base case performance models were programmed; and then they were modified and extended to investigate measures for improving system performance. The measures included changes in the area and orientation of the solar collectors, the inclusion of thermal storage in the system, changes in the pipe diameter and length, and various system operational control strategies. It was found that this solar thermal system could potentially supply 39% of cooling and 20% of heating energy for this building space in Pittsburgh, PA, if it included a properly sized storage tank and short, low diameter connecting pipes. Guidelines for the design and operation of an efficient and effective solar cooling and heating system for a given building space have been provided.  相似文献

A new solar boiling water system with conventional vacuum-tube solar collector as primary heater and the holistic solar funnel concentrator as secondary heater had been designed. In this paper, the system was measured out door and its performance was analyzed. The configuration and operation principle of the system are described. Variations of the boiled water yield, the temperature of the stove and the solar irradiance with local time have been measured. Main factors affecting the system performance have been analyzed. The experimental results indicate that the system produced large amount of boiled water. And the performance of the system has been found closely related to the solar radiance. When the solar radiance is above 600 W/m2, the boiled water yield rate of the system has reached 20 kg/h and its total energy efficiency has exceeded 40%.  相似文献

Characterisation and design methods of solar cookers   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The use of solar cookers is much needed in many regions with good solar radiation intensity throughout the world. The reasons are economical, as the price of fuel for cooking is no longer affordable by many families; ecological, as in many regions deforestation is also associated with the use of wood as an energy source; and social, as the money used to buy fuel could be used to buy food, medications and other needs to improve the quality of life. Because of the variety of solar cookers that has been presented in the literature, a general procedure to compare these cookers with one another is very complex. This article presents the general types of solar cookers, theirs basic characteristics, and experimental procedures to test the different types of solar cookers. The variables measured in these procedures are necessary to calculate parameters, which are used to compare the thermal performance of the solar cookers. In addition to these experimental procedures, a simplified analytical model is presented to design simple cooking systems. For more complex systems, results are shown and references are indicated in the text.  相似文献

A solar fryer
The design and operation of a large-area frying pan heated by solar radiation is described. A mirror below the pan directs the radiation to the pan bottom, which is coated with a low-emissivity black absorber. The mirror uses flat, hexagonal panels of aluminized-Mylar to provide uniform illumination across most of the pan bottom. The mirror mount allows 8 h/day operation with a single mirror-angle adjustment, plus a seasonal mounting adjustment for full-year use. A 0.46 m (18″) diameter pan and ∼1.2 m (48″) diameter mirror are used in the prototype, which is designed for cooking 0.42 m diameter slices of injera bread in East Africa. The prototype provides ∼640 W of heating power (60% efficiency compared to the full mirror area), and loses ∼100 W while cooking the bread. This allows for cooking ∼4 kg of bread per hour. The pan preheats to the 180 °C cooking temperature in 15-20 min. Materials and design are chosen for low-cost, and the prototype US-retail materials cost is ∼100 US$. The design is scalable to any desired pan size, with cost proportional to pan area. Most of the construction requires only hand tools, encouraging production in the country of use.  相似文献
