Epoxy/polyamide coatings were loaded with different mixtures of strontium aluminum polyphosphate (SAPP) and zinc aluminum phosphate (ZPA) pigments. Moreover, a coating containing zinc phosphate (ZP) was prepared as a reference sample. The coatings were applied on St-37 steel substrates and then were exposed to 3.5 wt% NaCl solution up to 35 days. The corrosion inhibition properties of the pigments extracts were studied on bare steel samples by a potentiodynamic polarization technique after 24 h immersion. The morphological properties and corrosion resistance of the coatings were investigated by scanning electron microscope (SEM), optical microscope, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and salt spray tests.  相似文献

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was employed to evaluate protective performance of the solvent-borne epoxy coatings pigmented with zinc aluminum polyphosphate as a representative of phosphate-based anticorrosion compounds at different Lambda values. Furthermore, the effective ratio of the pigment volume concentration (PVC) to the critical pigment volume concentration (CPVC) was determined. To compare the function of zinc aluminum polyphosphate and zinc phosphate incorporated into coatings, electrochemical noise method as well as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was taken into consideration. The trend and magnitude of charge transfer, coating and noise resistances plus the amplitude of the current noise fluctuation indicated superiority of the modified pigment. In order to provide an insight into the mechanism by which anticorrosion pigments improve protective behavior of coating, performance of bare metals exposed to pigment extracts was assessed through taking advantage of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and electrochemical noise method as well.  相似文献

The epoxy/polyamide coating was loaded with different pigment mixtures of the zinc phosphate (ZP), zinc aluminum phosphate (ZPA) and zinc aluminum polyphosphate (ZAPP) pigments. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and salt spray test were used to investigate corrosion inhibition performance of the coatings. The adhesion strengths of the coatings were measured by a pull-off test. Results revealed lower coating pull-off strength loss when the ZPA and ZAPP pigments were used. A significant decrease in number of blisters together with low pull-off strength loss and best corrosion inhibition properties were observed when the mixture of 80:20 of ZAPP:ZPA was used.  相似文献

This work presents a method of preparing single-, double-, and triple-cation ferrite pigments by employing simple chemical techniques to study their corrosion protection properties. The prepared pigments were characterized using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. All prepared ferrite pigments were evaluated using ASTM methods. Anticorrosive paint formulations were performed using different prepared pigment loadings. The physico-mechanical and corrosion properties of dry paint films were examined. The tests revealed that the prepared ferrite pigments show excellent anticorrosive behavior, and that the best among them in performance are zinc and zinc magnesium. Calcium, zinc–calcium, and zinc–magnesium–calcium ferrites show better performance in high pigment loadings, while magnesium ferrite pigments show good results only in low pigment loading.  相似文献

This paper deals with the study of properties of anticorrosion pigments of varying chemical composition in epoxyester paints. Two type lines of paints were prepared. The first line comprised an anticorrosion pigment with a PVC concentration of 10% while the other line comprised an anticorrosion pigment with a PVC concentration = CPVC. The following nontoxic anticorrosion pigments were observed: zinc phosphate, zinc phosphomolybdate, calcium hydrogen phosphate, zinc phosphate modified with an organic corrosion inhibitor, strontium–aluminum polyphosphosilicate, zinc–aluminum polyphosphate, calcium metaborate, calcium ferrite, calcium borosolicate, and strontium chromate. The epoxyester primers were observed for the effect of the type of pigment on the anticorrosion properties. Anticorrosion efficiency was derived from tests in a condenser chamber and in a salt spray cabinet as well as from a test of chemical resistance of pigmented coatings. The evaluation of anticorrosion efficiency of inorganic nonmetal pigments was carried out by means of comparison with anticorrosion efficiency of metal dust.  相似文献

A very common material for food packaging is steel, in the form of metallic containers (cans), in particular for beverage packaging. The corrosion degradation of the packaging must be carefully controlled, not only because the packaging integrity must be preserved, but also in order to avoid any significant contamination of the food or drink, compromising the flavour. In order to increase the coating performance and the food compatibility, new organic coatings are under development with very high protective properties, with the final aim to increase the shelf life of the product. An electrochemical characterisation is often used to study the protective performance of organic coatings on metal substrate for various applications. Some different coatings for food packaging were considered in the present study, including materials with different chemical composition and different pigments content. The protective properties were quantified using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements, comparing the electrochemical substrate activity with electrochemical noise (EN) and scanning Kelvin probe (SKP) measurements. The influence of mechanical deformations on the protective properties was also investigated. The results obtained on the studied coatings confirmed the validity of the electrochemical approach and showed that, in general, the coatings containing pigments (TiO2) have better performance than clearcoats, while comparing the different polymers, epoxy–phenolic coatings have a better corrosion protection than epoxy–melamine coatings.  相似文献

Investigations have been carried out on properties of coatings, differing by their pigmentation and binder, and applied on different chemical pre-treatments of the steel surface. Paints based on alkyd and alkyd-melamine binders, pigmented with zinc phosphate and modified basic zinc phosphate were applied on amorphous and crystalline phosphated steel surface and, for the comparison purpose, on degreased steel surface. The effect of the binder, the pigment and the pre-treatment of the steel surface on the protective properties of the coatings were determined by measurements of adhesion, water absorption and water permeability and by results obtained in salt spray and Prohesion tests. Coatings based on alkyd binder show a lower damage degree and good retention of adhesion in corrosion conditions, in spite of a higher water absorption and water permeability and a lower initial adhesive strength. Protective properties of coatings have been found to be highly dependent upon the substrate pre-treatment. Chemical pre-treatment of the steel substrate increases the protective properties of the system, which is particularly evident in the case of crystalline phosphating and the coating pigmented with modified basic zinc phosphate. This phenomenon can be explained by the synergism between this phosphate pigment with crystalline phosphate layer.  相似文献

The anticorrosive performance of epoxy coatings pigmented with non-toxic corrosion inhibitors pigments was investigated in this work. The coatings used contained the following pigments: zinc phosphate (ZP), zinc phosphomolybdate (ZPM) and zinc calcium phosphomolybdate (ZCPM). For comparative studies epoxy coatings with the following compositions were made up: one only with filler (CRG); one without pigments, varnish (VR) and other with zinc chromate (ZC) pigment. The corrosion inhibitor performance of the coatings was evaluated by immersion tests in 0.01 mol L−1 NaCl aqueous solutions and accelerated tests in a salt spray chamber. The corrosion inhibitor performance of the samples was monitored using open-circuit potential (Eoc) measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. Complementary tests were carried out using water vapour permeability of free-standing films and thermogravimetric (TG) analysis. The permeability test showed that the addition of the studied pigments did not modify the barrier properties of the free-films in comparison that pigmented with chromate. Thermal analysis indicated that the addition of the pigments improved the thermal stability of the coatings and it suggested a resin/pigment interaction. The total immersion tests and salt spray tests demonstrated that the barrier properties of the coatings pigmented with the inhibitors were not degrading as much as that pigmented with ZC. Therefore, all the three pigments could replace ZC as an anticorrosive pigment in similar conditions to those described here. The best corrosion inhibitor performance in the total immersion test was presented by the ZPM and ZCPM coatings while in the salt spray test the corrosion inhibitor performance of all the three pigmented coatings was similar, suggesting that only in the less aggressive test is possible to detect any difference between the coatings with the non-toxic pigments.  相似文献

Zinc chromate is one of the anticorrosive pigments most frequently used in the formulation of primers. However, its environmental aggressiveness and toxicity severely restrict its use, and different green alternatives have been proposed in order to replace zinc chromate. In the last decade, the behaviour of zinc phosphate as anticorrosive pigment has been intensively researched. During this time, various modifications have been made to this family of pigments to improve its properties, and a “second generation” of phosphate pigments, incorporating elements such as molybdenum, aluminium, or iron, has been produced. In this paper, the inhibitive properties of zinc phosphate and three second-generation phosphates have been investigated, using zinc chromate pigment as a reference. Pigment extract solutions, at different values of pH, have been used as corrosive media. Carbon steel samples were immersed in such solutions and their corrosion rates were measured using electrochemical techniques. The data obtained suggest that zinc chromate provides the highest percentage of inhibition in neutral and basic solutions, but phosphate-based pigments showed better results in acid solutions. Given this performance advantage, together with their less harmful environmental impact, these phosphate-based pigments can be proposed as realistic alternatives to chromates in the formulation of protective paints for use in acidic conditions.  相似文献

Three two-layer heat-resistant and anticorrosion paints have been formulated from urethane siloxane binder and traditional anticorrosion pigments such as micaceous iron oxide (MIO), zinc phosphate (ZP), and aluminum oxide. These pigments were used as the dominant components of different undercoats or topcoats. Heat-resistant pigments such as silicon nitride and glass-spheres were used in the composition of the topcoats. Thermogravimetric analysis of paints shows that the paint with ZP as dominant component of the undercoat have the highest heat-resistance and stability in inert gas and oxygen. The paint with a combination of MIO and ZP has the best hardness as well as the best protective and anticorrosion properties based on the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. A maximum synergic effect of the properties of pigments seems to appear in this paint. Surface morphology of paints was studied by means of scanning electron microscopy. Heated at different temperatures and for several hours, paint containing MIO as the dominant component in the undercoat exhibits the best mechanical and adhesion properties.  相似文献

This paper discussed a zinc phosphate conversion coating formed on magnesium alloy AZ91D from the phosphating bath with varying amounts of ethanolamine (MEA). The effects of MEA on the form, structure, phase composition and electrochemical behavior of the phosphate coatings were examined using an scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) potentiodynamic polarization curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. Interpretations of the electrical elements of the equivalent circuit were obtained from the SEM structure of the coatings, assumed to be formed of two layers: an outer porous crystal layer and an inner flat amorphous layer. The result showed that adding MEA refined the microstructure of the crystal layer and that the phosphate coating, derived at the optimal content of 1.2 g/L, with the most uniform and compact outer crystal layer provided the best corrosion protection.  相似文献

In this paper, a solvothermal method is used to prepare nano-sized zinc oxide-graphene oxide (ZnO–GO) hybrid, and the ZnO–GO hybrid is characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis, Raman, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. In addition, chemically bonded phosphate ceramics coatings with different content of ZnO–GO hybrid are prepared on the stainless steel through the sol-gel method. The corrosion performance of the coatings is evaluated by electrochemical properties and the analysis of the surface and cross morphology of the coating. Results indicate ZnO–GO hybrid significantly enhances the compactness and corrosive behavior of the coating because the overlapping structure of GO flake improves the barrier performance of the coating. Besides, ZnO nanoparticles on the surface of GO can react with aluminum dihydrogen phosphate binder, in that case the adhesion between GO and the coating is improved.  相似文献

Undesirable anti-corrosion performance of zinc phosphate pigment, the classical chromate replacement, has led researchers to take modification into account. Polyphosphate-based anti-corrosion pigments as a result of modification of zinc orthophosphate have been found to function much more efficiently. This study aimed to evaluate performance of steel samples immersed in 3.5% NaCl aqueous solution-containing zinc aluminum polyphosphate (ZAPP) pigment extract compared to those involving conventional zinc phosphate (ZP) pigment extract and also no pigment (blank) using electrochemical tests such as electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and linear polarization (LP) as well as surface analysis. Impedance spectra and polarization curves revealed two different trends, showing the superiority of ZAPP pigment. Based on the results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX), presence of a precipitated layer on the surface was confirmed when steel sample was immersed into the solution-containing ZAPP.  相似文献

A commercial zinc phosphate pigment was incorporated into polypyrrole (PPy) matrix during its electrochemical synthesis in order to improve the corrosion protection of polypyrrole on AISI 1010 steel. PPy/zinc phosphate composite films were synthesised in sodium salicylate medium with high current efficiency and containing 10% by weight of zinc and 4% by weight of phosphate. The influence of stirring and concentration of the electrolyte on the degree of pigment incorporation were investigated, as well as polymerisation time and applied current density. The morphology of the films was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and the distribution of pigment in the polymeric matrix was carried out by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The PPy and PPy/zinc phosphate films were submitted to salt spray corrosion test, weight loss test and to electrochemical measurements like corrosion potential with time. In all tests, the composite films showed an enhancement in its protective action in comparison with PPy films.  相似文献

In this work, hydrochloride polyaniline (PANI-Cl) powder was incorporated as a conductive pigment into powder zinc-rich primer (ZRP) formulations in order to enhance the electronic conduction paths between zinc particles inside the coating and the steel substrate (i.e. percolation). Coatings were applied onto steel substrates and immersed in a 3% NaCl solution at ambient temperature. The protective properties and electrochemical behaviour of coatings were investigated by monitoring the free corrosion potential versus time and by using EIS. It was found that corrosion potential remains cathodic and constant for a long time up to 100 days of immersion. From EIS results, it was shown that the coatings exhibit larger impedance values than those observed with liquid or other zinc-rich powder formulations containing carbon black. From Raman spectroscopy results, it may be proposed that zinc particles in contact with PANI-Cl pigments were passivated. Other zinc particles remain still active which ensures the cathodic protection of the substrate. Moreover, coatings exhibit good barrier properties.  相似文献

The aim of this paper was to prepare and to compare anticorrosion efficiency of various types of pigments based on phosphates. Their exact composition was defined by X-ray diffraction analysis and their structure by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Commercially available zinc phosphate was used as a standard. Pigments were prepared in three different ways and they were dispersed in the solution of epoxy medium-molecular resin. Paints were formulated with 10% PVC (pigment volume concentration). Anticorrosion efficiency of coatings was tested by three direct cyclic corrosion tests. These pigments seem to be a good alternative for corrosion protection. AlPO4/Al(PO3)3, prepared according to process No. 1, showed very good results in all prepared pigments.  相似文献

An attempt has been made to investigate the effect of phosphating time and vanadium additive on the anticorrosion and surface properties of ambient temperature zinc phosphate coatings. Zinc phosphate coatings with different phosphating times and vanadium concentrations were applied to low carbon steel samples. A potentiostatic polarization test in 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was carried out to investigate the electrochemical properties of coated samples. Field emission scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, and atomic force microscopy were utilized to evaluate the microstructure, chemistry and roughness of coatings. Surface properties such as wettability, surface tension, and work of adhesion were measured. Results indicate that the sample which was immersed for 30 min in the phosphating bath exhibits the lowest corrosion current density, one tenth of bare steel, due to formation of a compact coating while having a low number of microcracks. Addition of 500 ppm vanadium to the coating in a secondary bath decreases the corrosion rate of zinc phosphate coating remarkably, by almost 80%. Microstructural results reveal that vanadium-rich precipitates are formed and enhance the coating coverage on the steel substrate. Vanadium addition increases the surface roughness, surface free energy, and work of adhesion of the phosphate coating.  相似文献

The anticorrosive performance of two inhibitive pigments, zinc chromate and zinc phosphate, was compared using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and the scanning vibrating electrode technique (SVET) in pigment extracts in 0.1 M NaCl. It was observed that zinc was protected from corrosion in both extracts. In tests using hot dip galvanised steel painted with an epoxy primer incorporating the pigments, the SVET detected the anodic and cathodic distribution along the scribes, although no significant differences were observed among the various primers. On the contrary, EIS was able to distinguish processes occurring on the metal surface exposed by the scribe in different samples. For primers with anticorrosive pigment, a time constant at high frequencies was attributed to a layer of protective nature, probably formed by metal ions from the substrate and inhibitive ions leached from the anticorrosive pigments.  相似文献
