This article examines the emerging cooperation models between the various stakeholders piloting mobile broadcasting in Europe. It adopts a generic business model design framework to systematically compare recent trials of mobile broadcasting technologies. The article illustrates the cross-impact of cooperation agreements between the various stakeholders on their technological, service-related and financial design choices, and provides insights on a number of business models issues in the upcoming commercialization phase of mobile digital TV broadcasting in Europe.  相似文献

Sports content continues to generate a global appeal that transcends national, cultural, religious, and gender boundaries. Historically, TV technology's success has been intertwined with the development of televised sports. In the famous words of pioneering TV sports director Harry Coyle, "television got off the ground because of sports." Sports showcases offer a splendid platform to promote new media technologies. During the 2006 FIFA (Federation Internationale de Football Association) World Cup tournament in Germany, major mobile companies launched a plethora of mobile TV services with such offerings as video streaming, text-based services, ring-tone downloads, and mobile blogging proposes a new way of enhancing the commercial value of sports video Webcasts. Clearly, the amount of advertising exposures must be managed to avoid viewers' perceiving them as unnecessary clutter in the video. As with legacy video broadcasting systems staffed by human operators, this check can be easily managed manually. 电视业务的传输网络已从有线电视网延伸到电信网、互联网,而相应的集成播控平台都是针对各自的业务需求建设而成,缺乏统一的技术规范与业务规范,不易管理与扩容。人工方式的内容审查和监控,难以适应三网融合形势下多样业务、海量内容的集成需求。现有的各自独立的播控平台难以支撑多内容、多业务提供商与多网络运营商之间的业务协作运营,内容版权没有保护机制。文章提出建设三网融合下的集成播控平台,研究相关技术,从内容集成、内容播控和协同运营3个方面来解决这些问题。  相似文献

The environments of software development and software provision are shifting to web-based platforms supported by Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) models. This paper will make the case that there is equally an opportunity for mobile operators to identify additional sources of revenue by exposing network functionalities through web-based service platforms. By elaborating on the concepts, benefits and risks of SaaS and PaaS, mobile operators’ experiments are compared and similarities with these models are identified. Based on the analysis of various case studies, this paper argues that mobile operators mobile web services are decisively shifting from SaaS to PaaS models. However, these platforms incorporate fragmentation at several levels and are likely to face future challenges in order to thrive.  相似文献

The aim of this article is to contribute to the ongoing discussions relating to the modernisation of the EU regulatory framework for the broadcasting sector. This revision would entail the extension of existing content regulations in the Television without Frontiers Directive to new platforms, including next generation broadband. In a first chapter (theoretical framework), the article will test the validity of the arguments traditionally invoked to justify content regulation (are they still valid in the converging info-communications sector and if so, can they justify the expansion of content regulation beyond traditional broadcasting?). Second, it will critically analyse the Commission’s legislative proposal for a new Audiovisual Media Services Directive and assess its impact on new content providers, such as mobile operators and ISP’s. It ends with some critical and sometimes provocative thoughts that intend to stimulate the debate on Europe’s current strategy for a convergent content regulation.  相似文献

During the last 5 years, we have witnessed extraordinary development in the mobile market. Apple’s launch of the iOS platform and associated App Store marketplace turned the market around, and Apple became the leading company in the business. This development caused existing players, such as Nokia, to renew their business and attracted new players, such as Google and Microsoft, to enter the market and introduce their own mobile platforms. To understand this development, we suggest that a generic abstracted model of the ecosystem around mobile platforms should be developed describing how the actors, including users, individual app developers, companies, and digital services, are connected and interact. In this work, we propose that competition and collaboration in this kind of abstracted ecosystem can be modeled and analyzed using network analysis. In our research, we derived weighted competition and collaboration networks for each mobile platform from an expert survey, and by calculating companies’ degree centrality in their networks at different times we were able to illustrate how companies’ strategies to build and maintain an ecosystem differ and develop over time. We believe that this kind of analysis is useful both for companies that build ecosystems and also for companies that plan to do business in them. The former can use it to compare their strategy with existing competitors and also evaluate emerging new ecosystems and the latter to compare and choose between possible ecosystems with which to do business.  相似文献

Television is likely to start being broadcast to PDAs and mobile phones soon, with the help of shrinking screen technologies. With 3G take-up going far slower than operators hoped and the pioneering service in the UK struggling to achieve initial sales targets, stakeholders from network operators to content providers are looking at more reliable ways of generating money in a saturated handset market. Adding broadcast television functionality to mobile devices, whether they are phones or personal digital assistants, could be the answer. Getting a 100 second video clip to a million mobile subscribers at 100 kbps could occupy an entire 3G network for up to 15 minutes, while the same content could be delivered by the broadcast route using only around 0.1% of capacity. A new standard, DVB-H, will address issues like power saving. Impatient broadcasters may use existing platforms to deliver services rather than waiting for DVB-H. This raises the prospect of a digital audio standard, like DAB, being used to deliver television to a mobile phone. The article outlines some of the research being carried out.  相似文献

Technologies of 3G and beyond open up new opportunities to develop and commercialize context-aware services that utilize information like user location and social context. Although initial expectations were high, the adoption and diffusion of context-aware services have thus far been limited. Existing literature points to failing business models to explain part of the disappointing uptake. However, most authors focus on the factors that explain failing business models rather than providing practical design issues to improve business model viability. This paper fills this gap by specifying generic mobile business model design issues for the domain of context-aware services. As such, we provide a well-grounded, holistic overview of design issues that are the most critical in developing viable business models for context-aware services, based on interviews with eighteen esteemed practitioners and academics in the mobile services domain, at CEO and Professor level. Our findings indicate key challenges in the service domain (i.e. defining value adding elements, specifying target groups and generating trust of consumers in the service), the technology domain (i.e. integrating emerging technology platforms and safeguarding privacy and security), the organizational domain (i.e. division of existing and new roles in complex value networks, openness of the value network towards new service providers and governing the activities in the value network) and the financial domain (i.e. pricing; dividing costs and revenues and combining multiple revenue models). Our research has scientific implications, because it applies generic mobile business model theory to the context-aware services domain. In addition, we provide practical clues to practitioners with regard to the design issues on which they should focus while developing more viable context-aware business models.  相似文献

The exploitation of third-generation mobile networks in Europe may be challenged by the deployment of so-called Alternative Wireless Technologies (AWTs). This article presents an overview of the availability and usage of AWTs in the 25 EU member states. It identifies the main drivers and bottlenecks for AWTs and analyses to which extent established mobile operators are active in this market. The article concludes that the convergence and integration of cellular technologies and AWTs is high on the telecommunications industry’s agenda, implying a gradual shift in business models for mobile operators towards mobile service providers that manage network heterogeneity and complexity on behalf of the user.  相似文献

Content personalisation is one of the main aims of the mobile media delivery business models, as a new way to improve the user’s experience. In broadcasting networks, the content is sent “one to many”, so a complete personalisation where the user may select any content is not possible. But using the mobile bidirectional return channel (e.g. UMTS connection) visual targeted advertising can be performed in a simple way: by off-line storing the advertisement for selectively replacing the normal broadcasted advertisement. In fact, these concepts provide powerful methods to increase the value of the service, mainly in mobile environments. In this article we present a novel intelligent content personalisation system for targeted advertising over mobile broadcasting networks and terminals, based on user profiling and clustering, as a new solution where the use of content personalisation represents the competitive advantage over traditional advertising.  相似文献

This paper discusses current status and recent advancements of 3D graphics on mobile platforms and describes open issues concerning its usage in different applications. We have treated two particular application fields. Firstly, we deal with problems of visualization of complex data structures on mobile devices. The implementation of a 3D visualization renderer on the Symbian platform for mobile devices is written as a C++ application and based on the DieselEngine® as a rendering engine. 3D visualization of data is generated in the form of a Virtual Reality Modelling Language (VRML) file meaning that actually any kind of 3D content written in VRML file format can be rendered on such a device. It was the result of a project the objective of which was to provide a user interface on a mobile platform displaying visualization of hierarchical Grid monitoring data. Secondly, we describe the system that brings face animation to embedded platforms. Face animation is considered to be one of the toughest tasks in computer animation today and its delivery to mobile platforms brings possibilities for development of new innovative and attractive services for the mobile market.  相似文献

地面无线广播电视作为广播电视最为重要的传输手段,在广播电视发展的很长一段时间内占据主导地位。随着计算机、微电子、移动通信、材料科学等技术飞速发展和人们不断提高的精神、物质、文化需求,无线广播电视技术开始探索向移动终端和个性化领域发展,广播电视与通信技术的融合已经成为全球性话题和探索研究方向。以国际通信组织3GPP为代表的通信与广播电视技术人员,从本世纪初开始了对现代广播电视传播体系的全面系统研究和探讨。本文全面介绍了3GPP广播模式的发展历程和主要技术特点,并基于我国广电兼具广播运营商和电信运营商的双重身份,指出了广电5G广播电视网建设演进路线,建议了未来中国3GPP广播电视分三阶段发展,提出了中国广播电视的核心模式:卫星组网+地面广播+基站覆盖。  相似文献
