Cobalt-coated Al2O3 and TiC powders were prepared using an electroless method to improve resistance to thermal shock. The mixture of cobalt-coated Al2O3 and TiC powders (about 70 wt.% Al2O3-Co + 30 wt.% TiC-Co) was hot-pressed into an Al2O3-TiC-Co composite. The thermal shock properties of the composite were evaluated by indentation technique and compared with the traditional Al2O3-TiC composite. The composites containing 3.96 vol.% cobalt exhibited better resistance to crack propagation, cyclic thermal shock and higher critical temperature difference (ΔTc). The calculation of thermal shock resistance parameters (R parameters) shows that the incorporation of cobalt improves the resistance to thermal shock fracture and thermal shock damage. The thermal physic parameters are changed very little but the flexure strength and fracture toughness of the composites are improved greatly by introducing cobalt into Al2O3-TiC (AT) composites. The better thermal shock resistance of the composites should be attributed to the higher flexure strength and fracture toughness.  相似文献

The layered-structural ceramics, such as lanthanum titanate (La2Ti2O7), have been known for their good electrical and optical properties at high frequencies and temperatures. However, few studies have been conducted on the mechanical properties of these ceramics. The interest in ceramic hot-forging (HF) has been greatly increased recently due to the enhancement in fracture toughness via bridging effect of oriented grains. In this study, grain oriented lanthanum titanate was produced by the hot-forging process. The characterizations of the samples were achieved by density measurement, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Vickers indentation and three-point bending test. According to X-ray diffraction patterns, the orientation factor (f) was found to be 0.73 for certain hot-forging conditions resulting an improved fracture toughness. The improved fracture toughness of La2Ti2O7 (3.2 MPa m1/2) reached to the value of monolithic alumina (Al2O3) between 3 and 4 MPa m1/2.  相似文献

In the present research, the effect of addition of (1 wt.% and 3 wt.%) alumina nanoparticles (Al2O3) to epoxy modified by poly(styrene-b-butadiene-b-styrene) (SBS) epoxidized triblock copolymer was studied. The microstructure of final hybrid composites was studied with atomic force microscopy (AFM). Composites showed homogeneously dispersed Al2O3 nanoparticles in the epoxy matrix containing polystyrene (PS) microphase separated nanodomains. Dynamic mechanical analyses (DMA), flexural and fracture toughness investigations were carried out. The glass transition temperature of epoxy matrix has been retained unchanged by the addition of Al2O3 nanoparticles. The nanostructured epoxy systems based on SBS epoxidized triblock copolymer and well-dispersed Al2O3 nanoparticles allowed an increase in fracture toughness maintaining the transparency and stiffness of neat epoxy.  相似文献

The mechanical and thermo-mechanical properties of polybenzoxazine nanocomposites containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) functionalized with surfactant are studied. The results are specifically compared with the corresponding properties of epoxy-based nanocomposites. The CNTs bring about significant improvements in flexural strength, flexural modulus, storage modulus and glass transition temperature, Tg, of CNT/polybenzoxazine nanocomposites at the expense of impact fracture toughness. The surfactant treatment has a beneficial effect on the improvement of these properties, except the impact toughness, through enhanced CNT dispersion and interfacial interaction. The former four properties are in general higher for the CNT/polybenzoxazine nanocomposites than the epoxy counterparts, and vice versa for the impact toughness. The addition of CNTs has an ameliorating effect of lowering the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) of polybenzoxazine nanocomposites in both the regions below and above Tg, whereas the reverse is true for the epoxy nanocomposites. This observation has a particular implication of exploiting the CNT/polybenzoxazine nanocomposites in applications requiring low shrinkage and accurate dimensional control.  相似文献

Al2O3/BN composite ceramics with nano-sized BN dispersions ranging from 0 to 30 vol.% were successfully fabricated by hot-pressing α-Al2O3 powders with turbostratic BN (t-BN) coating, which was prepared through chemical processes using boric acid and urea. SEM observations revealed that the nano-sized hexagonal BN (h-BN) particulates were homogeneously dispersed within Al2O3 grains as well as at grain boundaries. Vickers hardness of materials decreased with an increase in BN content. The fracture toughness was improved but the fracture strength had a small decrease, in comparison to Al2O3 monolithic ceramics. The nanocomposite ceramics with BN content more than 20 vol.% exhibited excellent machinability, which could be drilled using conventional hard metal alloy drills. Drilling rates and normal forces demonstrate the ease of machining of these materials. The preliminary information on the relationship between microstructures and properties are provided. The mechanism of material removal is also discussed.  相似文献

The (AlN, TiN)-Al2O3 composites were fabricated by reaction sintering powder mixtures containing 10-30 wt.% (Al, Ti)-Al2O3 at 1420-1520°C in nitrogen. It was found that the densification and mechanical properties of the sintered composites depended strongly on the Al, Ti contents of the starting powder and hot pressing parameters. Reaction sintering 20 wt.% (Al, Ti)-Al2O3 powder in nitrogen in 1520°C for 30 min yields (AlN, TiN)-Al2O3 composites with the best mechanical properties, with a hardness HRA of 94.1, bending strength of 687 MPa, and fracture toughness of 6.5 MPa m1/2. Microstructure analysis indicated that TiN is present as well dispersed particulates within a matrix of Al2O3. The AlN identified by XRD was not directly observed, but probably resides at the Al2O3 grain boundary. The fracture mode of these composites was observed to be transgranular.  相似文献

Polyaniline (PANI) nanorods/Ce(OH)3-Pr2O3/montmorillonite (MMT) nanocomposites were synthesized via in situ polymerization of aniline monomer through reverse micelle template (RMT) in the presence of montmorillonite and Ce(OH)3, Pr2O3. In the experiment, sulphosalicylic acid was used as dopant, aniline was designated as oil phase and the aqueous solution comprising Ce3+ and Pr3+ as water phase. The nanocomposites were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and thermogravimetry-differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA). The results showed that PANI nanorods were synthesized in the interlayer spaces of MMT with uniform spherical rare earth nanoparticles. The thermal stability of the nanocomposites prepared was enhanced drastically compared with pure polyaniline.  相似文献

Spherical monodispersed, submicron-sized Y2O3 powder was prepared via a homogeneous precipitation method using nitrate and urea as raw materials. The structure, phase evolution and morphology of Y2O3 precursor and the calcined powder were studied by FTIR, TG/DTA, XRD and SEM methods. The sphere size of the precursor was about 250 nm and that of Y2O3 powder calcined at 800 °C for 2 h was about 200-210 nm. With the spherical Y2O3 powder and a commercial Al2O3 ultrafine powder, high transparent YAG ceramics was fabricated by vacuum sintering at 1780 °C for 6 h through a solid-state reaction method. The in-line transmittances of the as-fabricated YAG ceramics at the wavelength of 1064 nm and 400 nm were 82.8% and 79.5%, respectively, which were much higher than that of the YAG ceramics with a commercial Y2O3 powder and a commercial Al2O3 ultrafine powder directly. The superior properties are attributed to the good morphology, dispersibility and uniform grain size of the as-prepared spherical Y2O3 powder, which matches that of the commercial Al2O3 powder.  相似文献

The fracture toughness and behaviour of COMRAL-85TM, a 6061 aluminium–magnesium–silicon alloy reinforced with 20 vol% Al2O3-based polycrystalline ceramic microspheres, and manufactured by a liquid metallurgy route, have been investigated. Fracture toughness tests were performed using short rod and short bar (chevron-notch) specimens machined from extruded 19 mm diameter rod, heat treated to the T6 condition. The fracture toughness in the R–L orientation was found to be lower than in the C–R or L–R orientations owing to the presence of particle-free bands in the extrusion direction. Short rod tests were also conducted for the R–L orientation on six powder metallurgy composites with particle volume fractions ranging between 5% and 30%. It was found that the fracture toughness decreased progressively with particle volume fraction, but at a decreasing rate. A detailed examination of the fracture behaviour was made for both the liquid metallurgy and powder metallurgy processed composites.  相似文献

Carbon nanotubes–alumina (CNT–Al2O3) nanocomposites with variable CNT content were directly synthesized by chemical vapor deposition (CVD). The as-grown CNT–Al2O3 mixture was densified by spark plasma sintering (SPS) at 1150 and 1450 °C. Vickers hardness of 9.98 GPa and fracture toughness of 4.7 MPam1/2 were obtained for 7.39 wt.% CNT–Al2O3 nanocomposite. The addition of CNTs gives rise to 8.4% increase in hardness and 21.1% increase in toughness over that of the pure Al2O3. The optimum amount of CNTs is considered to be able to significantly enhance the mechanical property of ceramics in composites.  相似文献

The authors proposed an approach for manufacturing nano-SiO2/polypropylene (PP) composites by in situ reactive processing. The key issue lies in that the nanoparticles were covalently bonded to the matrix polymer via polyurethane (PU) elastomer and PP-g-NH2. Unlike the previous techniques based on graft polymerization, the present one did not need to pretreat the nanoparticles. Taking the advantages of rubber-type grafting polymer (i.e. PU) and interfacial reactive compatibilization with PP-g-NH2, a synergetic toughening effect was observed for the PP nanocomposites. Only very low concentrations of nano-SiO2 (1.5–2.5 vol.%) and PU (<4 vol.%) were sufficient to greatly increase notched impact strength of PP. Meanwhile, tensile properties of the nanocomposites were also slightly enhanced.  相似文献

The lamellar Fe/Al2O3 catalysts were prepared by sol-gel method, and then with these prepared catalysts, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) method using C2H2 as precursor. The as-prepared CNTs and Fe/Al2O3 catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and Raman spectrum. The results proved that the as-prepared CNTs actually existed in bundles. And the growth of CNTs bundles should be attributed to the lamellar catalysts, which supported the bottom growth mechanism of CNTs. The transition metal of Mo was not introduced in catalysts to produce CNTs bundles, which was different with others’ results.  相似文献

Reactive hot-press (1800-1880 °C, 30 MPa, vacuum) is used to fabricate relatively dense B4C matrix light composites with the sintering additive of (Al2O3 +Y2O3). Phase composition, microstructure and mechanical properties are determined by methods of XRD, SEM and SENB, etc. These results show that reactions among original powders B4C, Si3N4 and TiC occur during sintering and new phases as SiC, TiB2 and BN are produced. The sandwich SiC and claviform TiB2 play an important role in improving the properties. The composites are ultimately and compactly sintered owing to higher temperature, fine grains and liquid phase sintering, with the highest relative density of 95.6%. The composite sintered at 1880 °C possesses the best general properties with bending strength of 540 MPa and fracture toughness of 5.6 MPa m1/2, 29 and 80% higher than that of monolithic B4C, respectively. The fracture mode is the combination of transgranular fracture and intergranular fracture. The toughening mechanism is certified to consist of crack deflection, crack bridging and pulling-out effects of the grains.  相似文献

The transverse tensile properties, interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) and mode I and mode II interlaminar fracture toughness of carbon fibre/epoxy (CF/EP) laminates with 10 wt% and 20 wt% silica nanoparticles in matrix were investigated, and the influences of silica nanoparticle on those properties of CF/EP laminates were characterized. The transverse tensile properties and mode I interlaminar fracture toughness (GIC) increased with an increase in nanosilica concentration in the matrix resins. However, ILSS and the mode II interlaminar fracture toughness (GIIC) decreased with increasing nanosilica concentration, especially for the higher nanosilica concentration (20 wt%). The reduced GIIC value is attributed to two main competing mechanisms; one is the formation of zipper-like pattern associated with matrix microcracks aligned 45° ahead of the crack tip, while the other is the shear failure of matrix. The ratio of GIIC/GIC decreased with the concentration of silica nanoparticles, comparable with similar CF/EP laminates with dispersed CNTs in matrix. Fractographic studies showed that interfacial failure between carbon fibre and epoxy resin occurred in the neat epoxy laminate, whereas a combination of interfacial failure and matrix failure occurred in the nanosilica-modified epoxy laminates, especially those with a higher nanosilica concentration (20 wt%).  相似文献

Alumina-reinforced carbon nanofiber nanocomposites were prepared using different routes; powders mixture, colloidal route and sol-gel process followed by spark plasma sintering (SPS). CNFs/xAl2O3 (x = 10-50 vol.%) were prepared through nanopowders mixing in a high-energy attrition milling. The main limitations in the preparation of this kind of nanocomposites are related to the difficulty in obtaining materials with a homogeneous distribution of both phases and the different chemical nature of CNFs and Al2O3, which causes poor interaction between them. A surface coating of CNFs by wet chemical routes with an alumina precursor is proposed as a very effective way to improve the interaction between CNFs and Al2O3. An improvement of 50% in fracture strength was found for similar nanocomposite compositions when the surface coating was used. The improved mechanical properties of these nanocomposites are caused by stronger interaction between the CNFs and Al2O3.  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) composites with 5 wt% of different rigid particles (Al2O3 nanoparticles, SiO2 nanoparticles, Clay (Cloisite 20A) nanoparticles or CaCO3 microparticles) were obtained by melt mixing. Composites with different CaCO3 content were also prepared. The effect of fillers, filler content and addition of maleic anhydride grafted PP (MAPP) on the composites fracture and failure behavior was investigated. For PP/CaCO3 composites, an increasing trend of stiffness with filler loading was found while a decreasing trend of strength, ductility and fracture toughness was observed. The addition of MAPP was beneficial and detrimental to strength and ductility, respectively mainly as a result of improved interfacial adhesion. For the composites with 5 wt% of CaCO3 or Al2O3, no significant changes in tensile properties were found due to the presence of agglomerated particles. However, the PP/CaCO3 composite exhibited the best tensile behavior: the highest ductility while keeping the strength and stiffness of neat PP. In general, the composites with SiO2 or Clay, on the other hand, displayed worse tensile strength and ductility. These behaviors could be probably related to the filler ability as nucleating agent. In addition, although the incorporation of MAPP led to improved filler dispersion, it was damaging to the material fracture behavior for the composites with CaCO3, Al2O3 or Clay, as a result of a higher interfacial adhesion, the retardant effect of MAPP on PP nucleation and the lower molecular weight of the PP/MAPP blend. The PP/MAPP/SiO2 composite, on the other hand, showed slightly increased toughness respect to the composite without MAPP due to the beneficial concomitant effects of the presence of some amount of the β crystalline phase of PP and the better filler dispersion promoted by the coupling agent which favor multiple crazing. From modeling of strength, the effect of MAPP on filler dispersion and interfacial adhesion in the PP/CaCO3 composites was confirmed.  相似文献

Al2O3/3Y-TZP (30 vol.%) composite was pressurelessly sintered with addition of TiO2MnO2 and/or CaOAl2O3SiO2 glass. It was found that TiO2MnO2 addition greatly enhanced the densification of the composite by the formation of a low-viscosity liquid at sintering temperature. In contrast, the high-viscosity liquid formed by CaOAl2O3SiO2 glass improved mechanical properties because of its repressing effect on grain growth. The composite could be obtained at a temperature as low as 1400°C by co-doping with TiO2MnO2 and CAS glass. Bending strength of 552±64 MPa and fracture toughness of 6.03±0.22 MPa m1/2 were obtained with a doping level of 2 wt.% TiO2MnO2 and 2 wt.% CAS glass.  相似文献

This paper presents the method for measurement of the adhesion force and fracture strength of the interface between ceramic particles and metal matrix in ceramic reinforced-metal matrix composites. Three samples with the following Cu to Al2O3 ratio (in vol.%) were prepared: 98.0Cu/2.0Al2O3, 95.0Cu/5.0Al2O3 and 90Cu/10Al2O3. Furthermore, microwires which contain a few ceramic particles were produced by means of electro etching. The microwires with clearly exposed interface were tested with use of the microtensile tester. The microwires usually break exactly at the interface between the metal matrix and ceramic particle. The force and the interface area were carefully measured and then the fracture strength of the interface was determined. The strength of the interface between ceramic particle and metal matrix was equal to 59 ± 8 MPa and 59 ± 11 MPa in the case of 2% and 5% Al2O3 to Cu ratio, respectively. On the other hand, it was significantly lower (38 ± 5 MPa) for the wires made of composite with 10% Al2O3.  相似文献

This paper presents the properties of epoxy nanocomposites, prepared using a synthesized hybrid carbon nanotube–alumina (CNT–Al2O3) filler, via chemical vapour deposition and a physically mixed CNT–Al2O3 filler, at various filler loadings (i.e., 1–5%). The tensile and thermal properties of both nanocomposites were investigated at different weight percentages of filler loading. The CNT–Al2O3 hybrid epoxy composites showed higher tensile and thermal properties than the CNT–Al2O3 physically mixed epoxy composites. This increase was associated with the homogenous dispersion of CNT–Al2O3 particle filler; as observed under a field emission scanning electron microscope. It was demonstrated that the CNT–Al2O3 hybrid epoxy composites are capable of increasing tensile strength by up to 30%, giving a tensile modulus of 39%, thermal conductivity of 20%, and a glass transition temperature value of 25%, when compared to a neat epoxy composite.  相似文献
