Stretchable, elastomeric composite conductor made of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) has been fabricated by simple mixing. Electrical percolation threshold, amount of filler at which a sharp decrease of resistance occurs, has been determined to be ∼0.6 wt.% of MWNTs. The percolation threshold composition has also been confirmed from swelling experiments of the composite; the equilibrium swelling ratio slightly increases up to ∼0.6 wt.%, then decreases at higher amount of filler MWNTs. Upon cyclic stretching/release of the composite, a fully reversible electrical behavior has been observed for composites having filler content below the percolation threshold value. On the other hand, hysteretic behavior was observed for higher filler amount than the threshold value, due to rearrangement of percolative paths upon the first cycle of stretching/release. Finally, mechanical moduli of the composites have been measured and compared by buckling and microtensile test. The buckling-based measurement has led to systematically higher (∼20%) value of moduli than those from microtensile measurement, due to the internal microstructure of the composite. The elastic conductor may help the implementation of various stretchable electronic devices.  相似文献

Hydrogenated acrylonitrile–butadiene rubber (HNBR) was mixed with carbon fiber (CF), conductive carbon black (CCB) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) to prepare microwave absorbing composites, their complex permittivity was measured in microwave frequencies (2–18 GHz), and their electromagnetic characteristics and microwave absorbing performance were studied. The real part and imaginary part of permittivity of the composites increased with increasing carbon filler loading, showing dependency on filler type. The microwave reflection loss of the composites also depended on the loading and type of fillers. The matching thickness of the absorber layer decreased with increasing permittivity, while the matching frequency decreased with increasing layer thickness. The minimum reflection loss was −49.3 dB for HNBR/MWCNT (100/10) composite, while −13.1 dB for HNBR/CCB (100/15) composite and −7.1 dB for HNBR/CF (100/30) composite. The efficient microwave absorption of HNBR/MWCNT composites is accounted from high conduction loss and dielectric relaxation of MWCNT, and strong interface scattering.  相似文献

Composites of polystyrene and onion-like carbon (OLC), produced from detonation nanodiamonds (NDs), have been fabricated by forge-rolling method. Optical microscopy and optical absorption spectroscopy were used for control of dispersion of OLC in polymer matrix after repeating rolling cycles. The impedance measurements of composites with different filler loading indicated the percolation threshold at ∼20–25 wt.% OLC concentration. The permittivity of the polystyrene/OLC composites varies from 2 to 10 with changing the OLC loading from 5 to 35 wt.%. Fitting the experimental data with model based on the Maxwell–Garnett approximation lead to conclusion that the shear deformation applied under the composite preparing disintegrates OLC agglomerates to the size ∼40–50 nm equal to the medium size of OLC in dimethylformamide slurry.  相似文献

Solution styrene butadiene rubber (S-SBR) composites reinforced with graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs), expanded graphite (EG), and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were prepared and the electrical and various mechanical properties were compared to understand the specific dispersion and reinforcement behaviours of these nanostructured fillers. The electrical resistivity of the rubber composite gradually decreased with the increase of filler amount in the composite. The electrical percolation behaviour was found to be started at 15 phr (parts per hundred rubber) for GnP and 20 phr for EG filled systems, whereas a sharp drop was found at 5 phr for MWCNT based composites. At a particular filler loading, dynamic mechanical analysis and tensile test showed a significant improvement of the mechanical properties of the composites comprised of MWCNT followed by GnP and then EG. The high aspect ratio of MWCNT enabled to form a network at low filler loading and, consequently, a good reinforcement effect was observed. To investigate the effect of hybrid fillers, MWCNT (up to 5 phr) were added in a selected composition of EG based compounds. The formation of a mixed filler network showed a synergistic effect on the improvement of electrical as well as various mechanical properties.  相似文献

This paper reports on the development of electrically conductive nanocomposites containing multi-walled carbon nanotubes in an unsaturated polyester matrix. The resistivity of the liquid suspension during processing is used to evaluate the quality of the filler dispersion, which is also studied using optical microscopy. The electrical properties of the cured composites are analysed by AC impedance spectroscopy and DC conductivity measurements. The conductivity of the cured nanocomposite follows a statistical percolation model, with percolation threshold at 0.026 wt.% loading of nanotubes. The results obtained show that unsaturated polyesters are a matrix suitable for the preparation of electrically conductive thermosetting nanocomposites at low nanotube concentrations. The effect of carbon nanotubes reaggregation on the electrical properties of the spatial structure generated is discussed.  相似文献

Polymer composites with high permittivity and low dielectric loss are highly desirable in electronic and electrical industry. Adding conductive fillers could significantly increase the permittivity of a polymer. However, polymer composites containing conductive fillers often exhibit very high dielectric loss due to their large electrical conduction or leakage currents. In this work, by engineering TiO2-nanorod-decorated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (TD-CNTs), polystyrene (PS) composite with high permittivity and low dielectric loss have been successfully prepared. The composite containing of 17.2 vol.% TD-CNTs has a permittivity of 37 at 1 kHz, which is 13.7 times higher than that of the pure PS (2.7), while the dielectric loss still remains at a low value below 0.11. The dielectric properties of the composites are closely related to the length of CNTs and the loading level of TiO2-nanorods on the CNT surfaces.  相似文献

Commercial Udel® poly(ether sulfone) (PSU) was filled with three different commercially available multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) by small scale melt mixing. The MWCNTs were as grown NC 7000 and two of its derivatives prepared by ball milling treatment. One of them was unmodified (NC 3150); the other was amino modified (NC 3152). The main difference beside the reactivity was the reduced aspect ratio of NC 3150 and NC 3152 caused by ball milling process. All PSU/MWCNT composites with similar filler content were prepared under fixed processing conditions and comparative analysis of their electrical and mechanical properties were performed and were correlated with their microstructure, characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). A non-uniform MWCNT dispersion was observed in all composites. The MWCNTs were present in form of agglomerates in the size of 10–60 μm whereas the deagglomerated part was homogeneously distributed in the PSU matrix. The differences in the agglomeration states correlate with the variations of properties between different PSU/MWCNT composites. The lowest electrical percolation threshold of 0.25–0.5 wt.% was observed for the shortened non-functionalized MWCNT composites and the highest for amine-modified MWCNT composites (ca. 1.5 wt.%). The tensile behavior of the three composites was only slightly altered with CNT loading as compared to the pure PSU. However, the elongation at break showed a reduction with MWCNT loading and the reduction was least for composite with best MWCNT dispersion.  相似文献

Polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) composites filled with Aluminum Nitride (AlN) were prepared by powder processing technique. The microstructures of the composites were investigated by scanning electron microscopy techniques. The effect of AlN filler content (0.1–0.7 volume fraction (vf)) on the thermal conductivity, relative permittivity, and dielectric loss were investigated. As the vf of AlN filler increased, the thermal conductivity of the specimens increased. The thermal conductivity and relative permittivity of AlN/PMMA composites with 0.7 vf AlN filler were improved to 1.87 W/(m K) and 4.4 (at 1 MHz), respectively. The experimental thermal conductivity and relative permittivity were compared with that from simulation model.  相似文献

Spinel ferrites constitute an important class of magnetic materials. Polycrystalline ferrites are a complex system composed of crystallite grain boundaries and pores. Manganese zinc ferrites have resistivities between 0.01 and 10 Ω m. Making composite materials of ferrites with either natural rubber or plastics will modify the electrical properties of ferrites. Composite materials are ideally suited for many modern applications where ceramic materials have some drawbacks. The mouldability and flexibility of these composites find wide use in industrial and other scientific applications. Mixed ferrites belonging to the series Mn(1−x)ZnxFe2O4 (MZF) were synthesized for different ‘x’ values in steps of 0.2. These pre-characterized ceramic ferrites were then incorporated in a natural rubber matrix. The dielectric properties of the ceramic manganese zinc ferrite and RFC were also studied. A program based on G programming was developed with the aid of LabVIEW package to automate the dielectric measurements. The dielectric permittivity of the RFC were then correlated with that of the corresponding dielectric permittivity of the magnetic filler and matrix by a mixture equation, which helps to tailor properties of the composites.  相似文献

The electrical percolation behaviour of five different kinds of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) synthesised by two CVD techniques was investigated on melt mixed composites based on an insulating polyamide 6.6 matrix. The electrical percolation behaviour was found to be strongly dependent on the properties of CNTs which varied with the synthesis conditions. The lowest electrical percolation threshold (0.04 wt.%) was determined for as grown multi-walled carbon nanotubes without any purification or chemical treatment. Such carbon nanotubes were synthesised by the aerosol method using acetonitrile as ferrocene containing solvent and show relatively low oxygen content near the surface, high aspect ratio, and good dispersability. Similar properties could be found for nanotubes produced by the aerosol method using cyclohexane, whereas CNTs produced by the fixed bed method using different iron contents in the catalyst material showed much higher electrical percolation thresholds between 0.35 and 1.02 wt.%.  相似文献

Co-filled carbon nanotubes composites were synthesized via using a simple and efficient wet chemistry solution method. The samples were characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Microwave-absorbing properties were investigated by measuring complex permittivity and complex permeability of the absorber in a frequency range of 2-18 GHz. The reflection loss (R.L.), matching frequency (fm) and matching thickness (dm) were calculated using the theory of the absorbing wall. The electromagnetic properties and microwave-absorbing characteristics effects of the modified carbon nanotubes by the encapsulation of metal Co were investigated. A matching thickness is found corresponding to a matching frequency. The maximum reflection loss is about −39.32 dB and the bandwidth corresponding to the reflection loss below −10 dB is 3.47 GHz. With increasing thickness, the maximum reflection loss shifts to lower frequency.  相似文献

The percolation behaviour of the hybrid composites of polypropylene glycol (PPG) filled with multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and Laponite RD (Lap), or with MWCNTs and organo-modified Laponite (LapO) was studied by wide angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), microscopic image analysis, and electrical conductivity measurements. Cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) was used as an organo-modifier of Laponite. The Lap and LapO were found to have rather different affinity to PPG. XRD data have evidenced finite PPG integration inside Lap and complete exfoliation of LapO stacks in a PPG matrix. In PPG + MWCNT composites containing no Lap or LapO, increase of MWCNT concentration above the critical value Cp ∼ 0.4 wt% resulted in percolation. The value of the percolation threshold, Cp, was practically the same for hybrid PPG + MWCNT + Lap composites. However, it noticeably decreased (Cp ∼ 0.2 wt%) in PPG + MWCNT + LapO materials. The observed behaviour of the percolation threshold may be attributed to the effects exerted by LapO on the size of MWCNT aggregates, state of their dispersion and homogeneity of their spatial distribution.  相似文献

In this paper, electrical and mechanical properties of Poly (p-phenylene sulfide) (PPS)/multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) nanocomposites were reported. The composites were obtained just by simply melt mixing PPS with raw MWNTs without any pre-treatment. The dispersion of MWNTs and interfacial interaction were investigated through SEM &TEM and Raman spectra. The rheological test and crystallization behavior were also investigated to study the effects of MWNTs concentration on the structure and chain mobility of the prepared composites. Though raw MWNTs without any pre-treatment were used, a good dispersion and interaction between PPS and MWNTs have been evidenced, resulting in a great improvement of electrical properties and mechanical properties of the composites. Raman spectra showed a remarkable decrease of G band intensity and a shift of D bond, demonstrating a strong filler–matrix interaction, which was considered as due to π–π stacking between PPS and MWNTs. The storage modulus (G′) versus frequency curve presented a plateau above the percolation threshold of about 2–3 wt% with the formation of an interconnected nanotube structure, indicative of ‘pseudo-solid-like’ behavior. Meanwhile, a conductive percolation threshold of 5 wt% was achieved and the conductivity of nanocomposites increased sharply by several orders of magnitude. The difference between electrical and rheological percolation threshold, and the effect of critical percolation on the chain mobility, especially on crystallization behavior of PPS, were discussed. In summary, our work provides a simple and fast way to prepare PPS/MWNTs nanocomposites with good dispersion and improved properties.  相似文献

Carbon nanotube (CNT)/cellulose composite materials were fabricated in a paper making process optimized for a CNT network to form on the cellulose fibers. The measured electric conductivity was from 0.05 to 671 S/m for 0.5–16.7 wt.% CNT content, higher than that for other polymer composites. The real permittivities were the highest in the microwave region. The unique CNT network structure is thought to be the reason for these high conductivity and permittivity values. Compared to other carbon materials, our carbon CNT/cellulose composite material had improved parameters without decreased mechanical strength. The near-field electromagnetic shielding effectiveness (EMI SE) measured by a microstrip line method depended on the sheet conductivity and qualitatively matched the results of electromagnetic field simulations using a finite-difference time-domain simulator. A high near-field EMI SE of 50-dB was achieved in the 5–10 GHz frequency region with 4.8 wt.% composite paper. The far-field EMI SE was measured by a free space method. Fairly good agreement was obtained between the measured and calculated results. Approximately 10 wt.% CNT is required to achieve composite paper with 20-dB far-field EMI SE.  相似文献

Dielectric properties of onion-like carbon (OLC) and polyurethane composite prepared using different procedures were investigated in the frequency range up to 1 MHz. We show that broadband dielectric spectroscopy is powerful tool to determine technological fingerprints in the studied materials. It is demonstrated that cured samples annealed at temperature close to the melting point (450 K) exhibit substantially higher dielectric permittivity and electrical conductivity in comparison with untreated samples. With the increase of temperature of an untreated sample, its dielectric permittivity, electric conductivity and critical frequency increase, while Maxwell–Wagner mean relaxation time and aggregate sizes of OLC decreases. Annealing of the composite at temperature close to the melting temperature produce sample with more homogeneous distribution of OLC. The temperature dependence of conductivity of the homogeneous sample is mainly caused by a weak positive temperature coefficient effect.  相似文献

This study deals with the preparation and dielectric properties of polyurethane (PU) elastomer films by resol-derived ordered mesoporous carbon (OMC) nanopowder incorporation in the PU polymer matrix. Resol-derived OMC with a 2D hexagonal mesoporous carbon framework is used as conducting fillers to achieve homogeneous dispersion and favorable interfacial interactions in the polymer matrix. The dielectric properties depend on the applied field frequency and the carbon filler weight fraction. The carbon fraction has little effect on the relative permittivity. The relative permittivity of all the PU-OMC composites increases with the decline of frequency. Incorporating a small amount of OMC into the PU polymer had no influence on the dielectric loss. Along with the increasing carbon fraction above the percolation threshold, dielectric loss of PU-OMC composites increases exponentially in the low frequency range. PU-0.75 wt% OMC composite possesses the best dielectric properties, and the obtained relative permittivity and dielectric loss at 1 kHz is 9.59 and 0.03018, respectively.  相似文献

Composites of styrene–butadiene–styrene (SBS) block copolymer with multiwall carbon nanotubes were processed by solution casting to investigate the influence of filler content, the different ratios of styrene/butadiene in the copolymer and the architecture of the SBS matrix on the electrical, mechanical and electro-mechanical properties of the composites. It was found that filler content and elastomer matrix architecture influence the percolation threshold and consequently the overall composite electrical conductivity. The mechanical properties are mainly affected by the styrene and filler content. Hopping between nearest fillers is proposed as the main mechanism for the composite conduction. The variation of the electrical resistivity is linear with the deformation. This fact, together with the gauge factor values in the range of 2–18, results in appropriate composites to be used as (large) deformation sensors.  相似文献

In this work, carbon composite bipolar plates consisting of synthetic graphite and milled carbon fibers as a conductive filler and epoxy as a polymer matrix developed using compression molding is described. The highest electrical conductivity obtained from the described material is 69.8 S/cm for the in-plane conductivity and 50.34 S/cm for the through-plane conductivity for the composite containing 2 wt.% carbon fiber (CF) with 80 wt.% filler loading. This value is 30% greater than the electrical conductivity of a typical graphite/epoxy composite with 80 wt.% filler loading, which is 53 S/cm for the in-plane conductivity and 40 S/cm for the through-plane conductivity. The flexural strength is increased to 36.28 MPa compared to a single filler system, which is approximately 25.22 MPa. This study also found that the General Effective Media (GEM) model was able to predict the in-plane and through-plane electrical conductivities for single filler and multiple filler composites.  相似文献

Novel all-organic polymer high-dielectric permittivity composites of polyaniline (PANI)/poly (vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) were prepared by solution method and their dielectric and electric properties were studied over the wide ranges of temperatures and frequencies. To improve the interface bonding between two polymers, dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid (DBSA), a bulky molecule containing a polar head and a long non-polar chain was used both as a surfactant and as dopant in polyaniline (PANI) synthesis. Synthesized conducting PANI–DBSA particles were dispersed in poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) matrix to form an all-organic composite with different PANI–DBSA concentrations. Near the percolation threshold, the dielectric permittivity of the composites at 100 Hz frequency and room temperature was as high as 170, while the dielectric loss tangent value was as low as 0.9. Like typical percolation system, composites experienced high dielectric permittivity at low filler concentrations. However, their dielectric loss tangent was low enough to match with non-percolative ceramic filler-based polymer composites. Maximum electrical conductivity at 24 wt% of PANI–DBSA was mere 10?6 S/cm, a remarkably low value for percolative-type composites. Increase in the dielectric permittivity of the composites with increase in temperature from 25 to 115 °C for different PANI–DBSA concentrations was always in the same range of 50–60 %. However, the degree of increase in the electrical conductivity with the temperature was more prominent at low filler concentrations compared with high filler concentrations. Distinct electrical and their unique thermal dependence were attributed to an improved interface between the filler and the polymer matrix.  相似文献

In this work, the electrical, mechanical and thermal properties of polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composites filled with different content of aluminum powder varying from 0 to 40 wt.% have been prepared. The dielectric properties of these composites were investigated in the frequency range 100 Hz–100 kHz at temperature range from 30 to 98 °C. The percolation threshold concentration, which is the concentration after which the conductivity increases many orders of magnitude with very little increase in the filler content for PVC/Al composites depends upon the measuring temperature, whether it is below or above the glass transition of the polymer matrix. The highest value of the electrical conductivity, σ, of the composites was found to be in the order of 10−8 S cm−1, this value recommend such composites to be used in electrostatic dissipation applications as the range of conductivity for such application should be in the range of 10−5–10−9 S cm−1.  相似文献
