Traditional computer-aided design (CAD) and product lifecycle management (PLM) tools have their limitations in supporting quick-to-market, mass-customized product development environments. The present paper proposes a general integrated framework of design knowledge representation and develops a knowledge-based intelligent system (KBIS) to facilitate dynamic design reasoning. Owing to the increasing complexity of product design, the traditional design (knowledge) rules can no longer help facilitate complex product development, which requires flexible design knowledge adoption and collaborators’ interaction during design inference processes. Therefore, this research enhances the abilities of smart collaborative design reasoning. A conceptual architecture for the KBIS is presented to enable a collaborative design community to reason feasible design parameters and to integrate all sub-system designs of a product. Finally, a case study of designing an air compressor and its sub-system (V-type belt) is presented to demonstrate the unique features of the KBIS. 相似文献

This paper presents an integrated architecture of a geometry-oriented knowledge-based process-design system (GEOPDE) for multistage
cold forging of solid and hollow parts. It deals with the unit processes of upsetting, forward extrusion, backward extrusion
and with combinations of these processes. By using the notion of group technology, the forging processes and forging part
geometries are classified. With Prolog as the building tool, the inherited backward chaining reasoning was used for solving
the deduction problems. The formation approach, such as “generate and test” and backtracking control strategy, was also employed
for generating weighted alternative process plans. Using design rules, empirical formulae and material properties as integrated
knowledge, the billet dimensions and the forging sequences are generated automatically once the product dimensions are given
by the user. The developed system is a prototype expert system for the preliminary process design of cold-forged products

The shortened time-to-market of new products requires experts from multiple disciplines to cooperate in product development. In this collaborative product development environment, an Internet-based conceptual design support system for Injection moulding is developed. It can help designers to put forward feasible design solutions quickly and provide strong support for collaborative design. The architecture, implementation and evaluation of this system are discussed in this paper. The proposed system makes fully use of component-based web technology and has a flexible distributed architecture. A hybrid neural network and genetic algorithm approach is also adopted for more accurate and efficient retrieval. Concurrent engineering involves the integration of people, tools, information, and processes into a responsive and efficient system. This paper addresses a key requirement in distributed concurrent engineering, namely, the ability for geographically dispersed and disparate parties, having heterogeneous computing platforms, to exchange design and manufacturing data. The development of an effective and efficient collaborative product design support environment based on the WWW/Internet is presented. A new method that reduces the transmission time through the use of macro files is proposed to realise the real-time communication, together with a monitoring methodology for synchronising group operations, and maintaining consistency of shared CAD models in a cooperative design review (co-modifying) process. Based on the proposed methods, a software interface has been developed to extend the traditional single location CAD software system to a multi-location application for coordinated product design through the Internet. This software interface was coded in Java. The architecture is a connection-oriented client/server structure using TCP/IP protocol. Unigraphics on a UNIX Workstation and MicroStation on Windows NT have been successfully integrated. The findings of this paper allow product designers to exchange and share product data, communicate with team members, modify geometry data on particular aspects of the design, and maintain operations consistency in all the distributed cooperative sites on a wide variety of platforms. 相似文献

Design is an integral component of product development, which includes manufacturing. In order to avoid costly reworks and delays, and to reduce the lead-time in product development, effective communication of design concepts among the various stakeholders such as customers, designers and engineers is of utmost importance. In this respect, functional representations provide a methodology, which can be used to describe a design or product effectively. However, function is not the only type of information that needs to be communicated among the various stakeholders during a design process. Other types of information such as design specifications and constraints, which are non-functional, also need to be taken into account. This non-functional information cannot be adequately expressed using existing functional representations. Accordingly, in this work, a novel purpose-behaviour-structure (PBS) representation scheme to capture vital design knowledge for collaborative product development is proposed. The proposed PBS representation scheme can be used by designers working in a collaborative environment for product development. A case study on the design of a vacuum cleaner is used to illustrate the functionality of the PBS representation scheme. The details of the representation scheme are presented in this paper. 相似文献

Prismatic parts usually comprise basic features, such as slots, steps, holes, bosses, which may intersect with one another. In general, automatic recognition of intersecting features is difficult and may present bottlenecks when automating the design procedures which make use of features for downstream operations.This paper presents a novel approach to recognising intersecting features and auxiliary features due to tool movements and cutter radii. Since no cutting edges can be perfectly sharp, corner fillets on machined features are invariably created by end mills and other cutters. Fillets, on the other hand, could very well be features which have been designed to increase strength and reduce stress concentration of certain features. A feature recognition system is proposed to recognise features having fillets which may be either design or manufacturing features. This information will be useful to the product designer as it would be possible to distinguish between the intended and unintended features of a part. Arguments are presented for a consideration of the DEM of pressed parts on a basis of equipment and tooling used to produce
the parts rather than consider a categorisation based on ‘type’ by industry. It is also suggested that a combination of both
generative and variant techniques of process planning, in conjunction with a good classification system and data base, should
be used by the designer to develop, store and retrieve the type of information used in cost-optimising the design of pressed
parts. This paper outlines the elements of cost involved in the production of pressed parts and presents details of a computer-aided
process planning system which will assist the designer to quickly obtain the information necessary to optimise the designs.
Typical computer program inputs and outputs are presented together with rules that have emerged in pressing design to reduce
