Describes the emotional nature of responses to M. J. Mahoney's (see record 1990-03226-001) discussion of the differences between scientific psychology and radical behaviorism. Responses are offered to comments from R. W. Proctor and D. J. Weeks (see record 1991-06227-001), E. K. Morris (see record 1991-06224-001), C. J. Lonigan (see record 1991-06220-001), and W. J. Wyatt (see record 1991-06231-001). (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Responds to the articles by J. C. Bouhoutsos and K. V. Roe (see record 1984-26827-001) and by P. Vanger (see record 1987-00005-001) describing clinical and academic psychology in Greece as underdeveloped. The present author explains why developments have been delayed, and recent developments are not discernible to both outsiders and those who are part of the processes. Argues that the case made by G. Frank (see record 1984-27011-001) against the Boulder Model for training in clinical psychology is not applicable to at least one other model, the clinical psychology program at the University of Denver (UOD), which offers a doctorate in psychology. The UOD program is discussed in terms of its requirements and the research productivity of its graduates, based on a survey of 144 graduates. It is concluded that the training model espoused by a particular program may have little to do with the productivity of its graduates. Responds to comments by W. Mieder (see record 1991-03996-001), K. L. Dion (see record 1991-03991-001), and K. J. Gergen (see record 1991-03993-001) on T. B. Rogers's (see record 1991-03999-001) examination of the role of proverbs in psychology. It is argued that theory is important for the critical social functions it serves, rather than just for the quest for truth. Also, consideration of an emancipatory psychology is recommended, in which psychology is viewed as a socially embedded discipline. Responds to comments by W. B. Johnson and D. Hayes (see record 1993-41125-001), J. E. Maddux (see record 1993-41129-001), K. McCarthey et al (see record 1993-41130-001), the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development Early Child Care Network (see record 1993-41132-001), and N. Shpancer (see record 1993-41138-001) on L. B. Silverstein's (see record 1992-05293-001) original article on child care and maternal employment, noting that the comments go a long way toward expanding the child-care debate, if not transforming it. Silverstein focuses on the role of psychology in policymaking and the responsibility of government in the lives of individuals. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Synthesizes the ratings of psychology journals conducted by A. R. Buss and J. R. McDermott (1976), D. Koulack and H. J. Keselman (see record 1976-24649-001), J. R. Levin and T. R. Kratochwill (1976), K. C. Mace and H. D. Warner (1973), and M. J. White and K. G. White (see record 1978-01848-001). Each ratings list provides information of a different sort, and they all underestimate the importance of specialty journals to psychology. Comments that the article by H. Schuckman (see record 1988-11977-001), reporting no difference in the rate of publication of male and female biology and psychology students in the 4 yrs following receipt of their PhD degrees, parallels the results of E. Goldstein (see record 1979-25912-001), and are in contrast with results reported by J. R. Cole and H. Zuckerman (see record 1988-15525-001). E pluribus unum.
Replies to comments on the original article by R. J. Sternberg and E. L. Grigorenko (see record 2001-10045-001), which described an approach to psychology ("unified psychology") which is a multiparadigmatic, multidisciplinary, and integrated study of psychological phenomena through converging operations. Sternberg and Grigorenko reply to comments by H. H. Kendler (see record 2003-03406-005), M. Y. Lau (see record 2003-03406-006), J. I. Kassinove (see record 2003-03406-007), W. Chovan (see record 2003-03406-008) and R. Chao (see record 2003-03406-009). Sternberg and Grigorenko note that the aforementioned authors disagree at least as much among themselves as they do with Sternberg and Grigorenko's proposals. Sternberg and Grigorenko provide brief replies to each published comment here. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Discusses articles by D. E. Polkinghorne (see record 1985-07630-001), G. S. Howard (see record 1985-07626-001), and M. J. Patton (see record 1985-07629-001), in which they find the philosophy of science undergirding contemporary research in counseling psychology to be deficient. Their criticisms are reviewed and evaluated within the context of the present author's own view that the purpose of scientific activity is the construction (construing) of reality. The present author challenges the new philosophy to prove itself. (11 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Replies to a comment by R. J. Smith (see record 1983-29210-001) on the author's article on international psychology (see record 1982-29234-001). The author clarifies points surrounding Marxist psychology, Kritische Psychologie, radical psychology, and similar approaches. He reminds Dr. Smith that these approaches are very popular in Latin America. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Questions the experimental design employed and use of some terms in the work of J. D. Gartner (see record 1987-05379-001), but concludes that Gartner's findings that clinical psychology graduate programs are reluctant to admit religious applicants are timely and relevant in the controversy associated with the attempted rapprochement between psychology and religion. Responds to 2 points made by J. W. Osborne (see record 1982-29343-001) in criticism of an article by the present author (see record 1980-26706-001). Three features of phenomenological psychology and the value of a variety of approaches in psychology are discussed. (10 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Describes articles by D. E. Polkinghorne (see record 1985-07630-001), G. S. Howard (see record 1985-07626-001), and M. J. Patton (see record 1985-07629-001), as representing healthy trends in a liberalizing of approaches to counseling psychology research. All 3 share the implicit position that narrow positivist dogma can be transcended in practice to address core issues of the person as active agent. They suggest that successful research practice does not need a direct infrastructure from the philosophy of science. Eclectic, diverse ways of knowing may be most useful. Responds to comments by R. C. Tees (see record 1991-03035-001), J. G. Adair (see record 1991-03013-001), J. E. Grusec (see record 1991-03021-001), K. Danziger (see record 1991-03016-001), L. P. Mos (see record 1991-03027-001), H. J. Stam (see record 1991-03033-001), and V. Vikis-Freilbergs (see record 1991-03039-001) on W. Thorngate's (see record 1991-03036-001) contention that the overproduction of psychological literature will lead to fragmentation of the discipline. As the works of psychologists proliterate, their scientific truth may capture less attention than their practical importance or personal interest. Comments on J. B. Conway's (see record 1985-10567-001) history of clinical psychology in Canada. Alternative views of the fundamental problems facing Canadian clinical psychology are presented, and the basic problem is seen as being whether clinical psychology achieves its potential for advancing human welfare. Implications for training curricula and accreditation are noted. (3 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Analyzes articles by D. E. Polkinghorne (see record 1985-07630-001), G. S. Howard (see record 1985-07626-001), and M. J. Patton (see record 1985-07629-001), in terms of their assumptions concerning the nature of human beings and appropriate research methods in counseling psychology. They emphasize 4 sets of variables: intentionality, cognitive processes, consciousness, and talking behavior. They argue that the person in their social context should be the primary unit of analysis and that humans must be understood as active, self-constructing, goal-directed organisms. Replicated single-case designs are recommended as research methodology. (14 ref) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

Responds to S. F. Schneider's (see record 1972-21036-001) reply to G. W. Albee's (see record 1971-08263-001) article on clinical psychology as a profession. Albee's provocation may be useful, since intergroup conflict in clinical psychology might produce constructive changes. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献
