Future generations of microprocessors are expected to exhibit much heavier loads and much faster transient slew rates. Today's voltage regulator module (VRM) will need a large amount of extra decoupling and output filter capacitors to meet future requirements, which will basically make the existing VRM topologies impractical. As a candidate topology, the interleaved quasisquare-wave (QSW) VRM exhibits very good performance, such as a fast transient response and a very high power density. The difficulty with the application of the interleaved parallel technology is the current-sharing control. In this paper, a novel current-sensing and current-sharing technique is proposed. With this technique, current sharing can be controlled simply in parallel converters without a current transformer and current-sensing resistors. In addition, this technique can be easily integrated with an IC chip. The four-module paralleled QSW VRM is used to evaluate this technique. Experimental results verify that with this technique, the VRM has a high power density, high efficiency and a fast transient response. Backlight application specializes in supplying light, with notable examples including liquid crystal display (LCD), hand-phone LCD, and PDA LCD. The integrated process capability and integrated process yield for cold cathode fluorescent lamp backlight are unknown. Process capability analysis is a highly effective means of assessing the process ability of backlight that meets specifications. A larger process capability index (PCI) implies a higher process yield, and lower expected process loss. Chen et al. [Int. J. Product. Res. 39 (2001) 4077], applied indices Cpu, Cpl, and Cpk to evaluate the integrated process capability for a multi-process product with smaller-the-better, larger-the-better, and nominal-the-best specifications, respectively. However, Cpk suffers from the weakness of being unable to reflect the specific process yield. This study selects index Cps to replace Cpk. Meanwhile, an integrated PCI for the entire backlight module is proposed, and the relationship between the PCI and process yield is described. A multi-process capability analysis chart, which reasonably accurately indicates the status of process capability for the backlight module, is designed for practical applications. 相似文献

Three recently developed control methods for voltage regulator modules, namely, V/sup 2/ control, enhanced V/sup 2/ control, and enhanced V/sup 2/ control without output voltage dynamic feedback, are analyzed and compared in this paper. All three methods utilize the output voltage switching ripple for pulse-width modulation (PWM), hence, are collectively referred to as ripple-based control. A general modeling method based on the Krylov-Bogoliubov-Mitropolsky ripple estimation technique is applied to develop averaged models for single-channel as well as multichannel buck converters employing each of the control methods. Unlike existing models that are limited to small-signal operation, the proposed models are valid for large-signal operation and are capable of predicting subharmonic instability without including any sample-and-hold block as used in previous models. The paper also shows that adding parallel, high-quality ceramic capacitors at the output, which are ignored in previous models, can lead to pulse skipping and ripple instability, and a solution based on proper selection of the ceramic capacitors and/or ramp compensation at the PWM is presented. The models are further applied to analyze and compare the performance of the three control methods in terms of ripple stability, effective load current feedforward gain, and output impedance. 相似文献
