The essential oils obtained from leaves and fruits of Daucus gingidium ssp. gingidium have been studied. The main constituents of the essential oil from the leaves were sabinene (26.8%), α-pinene (10.8%), germacrene D (6.9%) and limonene (5.7%). Sabinene (60.6%) was the main compound identified in the essential oil of the fruits, followed by α-pinene (12.2%) and 4-terpineol (5.4%). Furthermore, qualitative and quantitative considerations about differences with literature data on Daucus carota have been made in order to confirm the species status of D. gingidium.  相似文献

The antimicrobial activity of Eucalyptusglobulus essential oil was evaluated against 14 food spoilage microorganisms in liquid and vapour phase using agar dilution/well diffusion method and disc volatilisation method, respectively. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) varied from 2.25 to 9 mg/ml for bacterial and fungal strains, and from 1.13 to 2.25 mg/ml for yeast strains. Significantly higher antimicrobial activity was observed in the vapour phase. The chemical composition of E. globulus in liquid as well as in the vapour phase was determined by gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and solid phase micro extraction-gas chromatography mass spectrometry (SPME GC-MS), respectively. The dominant compounds in E. globulus oil were 1,8-cineole (45.4%), limonene (17.8%), p-cymene (9.5%), γ-terpinene (8.8%), α-pinene (4.2%) and α-terpineol (3.4%), while in the vapour, 1,8-cineole (34.6%), limonene (29.9%), p-cymene (10.5%), γ-terpinene (7.4%), α-pinene (4.0%) and α-phellandrene (2.4%) were identified.  相似文献

Rosmarinus officinalis L. is a perennial herb that belongs to the Lamiaceae family. It is used as a food flavouring agent, and well known medicinally for its powerful antimutagenic, antibacterial and chemopreventive properties. Essential oils were obtained from this plant by hydrodistillation (HD) and solvent free microwave extraction (SFME). GC–MS analyses of the oils revealed the presence of 24 and 21 compounds in the essential oils obtained through HD and SFME, respectively. The total yield of the volatile fractions obtained through HD and SFME was 0.31% and 0.39%, respectively. Higher amounts of oxygenated monoterpenes such as borneol, camphor, terpene-4-ol, linalool, α-terpeneol (28.6%) were present in the oil of SFME in comparison with HD (26.98%). However, HD oil contained more monoterpene hydrocarbons such as α-pinene, camphene, β-pinene, myrcene, α-phellanderene, 1,8-cineole, trans β-ocimene, γ-terpenene, and cis sabinene hydrate (32.95%) than SFME extracted oil (25.77%). The essential oils obtained using the two methods of extraction were active against all the bacteria tested at a concentration of 10 mg ml−1. Minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values for all the susceptible bacteria ranged between 0.23 mg ml−1 and 7.5 mg ml−1.  相似文献

The essential oils of Salvia officinalis and Salvia triloba cultivated in South Brazil were analyzed by GC–MS. The major constituents of the oil of S. officinalis were α-thujone, 1,8-cineole, camphor, borneol and β-pinene, whereas those of S. triloba were α-thujone, 1,8-cineole, camphor, and β-caryophyllene. The essential oils of both species exhibited remarkable bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities against Bacillus cereus, Bacillus megatherium, Bacillus subtilis, Aeromonas hydrophila, Aeromonas sobria, and Klebsiella oxytoca. Moreover, the essential oil of S. triloba efficiently inhibited the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. S. aureus and A. hydrophila growth were drastically reduced even in the presence of 0.05 mg/ml of the essential oil of S. triloba.  相似文献

This study was designed to examine the in vitro antioxidant activities of Rosmarinus officinalis L. essential oil compared to three of its main components (1,8-cineole, α-pinene, β-pinene). GC–MS analysis of the essential oil resulted in the identification of 19 compounds, representing 97.97% of the oil, the major constituents of the oil were described as 1,8-cineole (27.23%), α-pinene (19.43%), camphor (14.26%), camphene (11.52%) and β-pinene (6.71%). The oil and the components were subjected to screening for their possible antioxidant activity by means of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and β-carotene bleaching test. In the DPPH test system, free radical-scavenging activity of R. officinalis L. essential oil, 1,8-cineole, α-pinene and β-pinene were determined to be 62.45% ± 3.42%, 42.7% ± 2.5%, 45.61% ± 4.23% and 46.21% ± 2.24% (v/v), respectively. In the β-carotene bleaching test system, we tested series concentration of samples to show the antioxidant activities of the oil and its main components, whereas the concentrations providing 50% inhibition (IC50) values of R. officinalis L. essential oil, 1,8-cineole, α-pinene and β-pinene were 2.04% ± 0.42%, 4.05% ± 0.65%, 2.28% ± 0.23% and 2.56% ± 0.16% (v/v), respectively. In general, R. officinalis L. essential oil showed greater activity than its components in both systems, and the antioxidant activities of all the tested samples were mostly related to their concentrations. Antioxidant activities of the synthetic antioxidant, ascorbic acid and BHT, were also determined in parallel experiments as positive control.  相似文献

The essential oil of Tarchonanthus camphoratus (Asteraceae), obtained by hydro-distillation, was analysed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC–MS) and also evaluated for antimicrobial activity. Out of 45 peaks representing 99.8% of the oil, 38 components which constitute 95.8% of the total oil were identified. The oil was dominated by monoterpenes, which accounted for 80.9% of the oil. This study indicates the presence of a high percentage of oxygenated monoterpenes (62.3%), of which the main constituents were fenchol (15.9%), 1,8-cineole (14.3%) and α-terpineol (13.2%). Other monoterpenes present in fairly good amounts were α-pinene (6.87%), trans-pinene hydrate (6.51%), terpinen-4-ol (4.74%) and camphene (3.76%). The oil was screened for antimicrobial activity against both Gram positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus ssp.) and Gram negative (Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella typhi, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis) bacteria and a pathogenic fungus Candida albicans. Except for P. aeruginosa, which showed resistance, the oil had pronounced antibacterial and antifungal activities.  相似文献

The volatile oils of a chemotype Lippia chevalieri collected in Burkina-Faso were obtained by hydrodistillation and analysed by GC and GC/MS. Most of the constituents identified in leaves and flowers oils were sesquiterpenoids. The dominant components in the oil from leaves were β-caryophyllene (27%), elemol (22%) and caryophyllene oxide (9%) whereas those found in the oil from flowers were β-caryophyllene (30%), germacrene d (15%) and elemol (12%). The latter compound and 1,8-cineole may be considered as metabolic markers of flowers differentiation taking into account the local environmental changes. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of both oils were tested against six microorganisms. While a strong inhibitory effect was shown regarding the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Enterococcus hirae, a moderated effect was observed for Candida albicans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Elemol, 1,8-cineole, camphor and para-cymene can be considered as the principal antimicrobial components of these oils. No antioxidant capacity comparable to that of α-tocopherol was demonstrated from either oil.  相似文献

Matricaria recutita is a herbaceous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. The present study reports the chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of M. recutita essential oil and its main compounds. The essential oil was obtained from the aerial parts of the M. recutita by hydrodistillation and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The major components were α-bisabolol oxide (38%), followed by camphene (9.11%), sabinene (4.87%), limonene (6%),1,8-cineole (7.12%), camphor (6.54%), and α-pinene (6%). Essential oil of chamomile was evaluated for its antibacterial activities against three gram-positive and four gram-negative pathogenic bacteria. The essential oil and its main compounds were particularly active against Bacillus cereus, with the lowest minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration value (0.022 and 1.5 μg /mL). In conclusion, these results support the use of the essential oil and its main compounds for their antimicrobial properties.  相似文献

The essential oil and fatty acid composition of Myrtus communis var. italica fruit during its ripening was determined. The effect of the harvesting time on some physical properties of Myrtus fruits, fruit weight and moisture content, were significant. The increase of fruit weight (from 2.54 to 8.79 g% fruits) during ripeness was correlated positively with that of moisture content (from 28% to 72%). Fruit essential oil yields varied from 0.003% to 0.01% and showed a remarkable increase at 60 days after flowering to reach a maximum of 0.11%. Forty-seven volatile compounds were identified in fruit essential oils; 1,8-cineole (7.31–40.99%), geranyl acetate (1.83–20.54%), linalool (0.74–18.92%) and α-pinene (1.24–12.64%) were the main monoterpene compounds. Total fatty acid contents varied from 0.81% to 3.10% during fruit maturation and the predominant fatty acids were linoleic (12.21–71.34%), palmitic (13.58–37.07%) and oleic (6.49–21.89%) acids. The linoleic acid proportions correlated inversely with palmitic and oleic acids during all the stages of ripening.  相似文献

The composition of the essential oils of leaves and fruits of Myrtus communis from Italy has been studied. Differences between plants collected in different habitats have been educed. The main diversities in the composition of the essential oils of the leaves between the two habitats centered on α-pinene and limonene, which were identified in greater amounts in plants living on calcareous soil, while linalool, linalyl acetate and trans-myrtanol acetate were detected in higher percentages on siliceous soil. Furthermore, the different olfactory perceptions noted for plants growing in the two habitats were clarified by mean of SPME. Among the volatiles emitted in vivo by the plants, the percentages of α-pinene, limonene and 1,8-cineole were considerably lower in the leaves of plants growing on siliceous soil than to those emitted by the leaves of plants from calcareous soil. On the other hand, β-caryophyllene duplicated its percentage and β-elemene passed from 0 to 17.2% in plant growing on calcareous soil. Also the volatiles emitted in vivo by the fruits showed very similar patterns. In all the samples, trans-myrtanol acetate has been identified for the first time as a natural constituent of an essential oil of Myrtus.  相似文献

The chemical composition and antimicrobial properties of the essential oils of three common Australian Eucalyptus species, namely E. olida, E. staigeriana and E. dives were determined by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and the agar disc diffusion method, respectively. A total of 24 compounds were identified from the essential oil of E. dives, with the dominant compounds being piperitone (40.5%), α-phellandrene (17.4%), p-cymene (8.5%) and terpin-4-ol (4.7%). For E. staigeriana, 29 compounds were identified with 1,8-cineole (34.8%), neral (10.8%), geranial (10.8%), α-phellandrene (8.8%) and methyl geranate (5.2%) being the dominant ones. In contrast, a single compound, (E)-methyl cinnamate, accounted for 99.4% of the essential oils of E. oilda, although 20 compounds were identified. The essential oils displayed a variable degree of antimicrobial activity with E. staigeriana oil showing the highest activity. In general, Gram-positive bacteria were found to be more sensitive to the essential oils than Gram-negative bacteria. Staphylococcus aureus was the most sensitive strain while Pseudomonas aeruginosa was the most resistant.  相似文献

The essential oils from aerial parts of six Brazilian species of the genus Cunila Mill. (Lamiaceae) currently used in beverages and food preparation, and in folk medicine, were obtained by steam distillation and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The main components of the oils were: Cunila galioides citral (citral −77.9%), C. galioides menthene (mentha-trans-2,8-dienol −20.0%, limonene −13.6%, trans-ocimene −13.0%), C. incisa (1,8-cineole −42.9%, α-terpineol −14.0%), C. spicata (1,8-cineole −47.9%, α-terpineol −37.5%), C. menthoides (menthene −77.8%), C. angustifolia (sabinene −41.4%, γ-terpinene −11.4%), and C. microcephala (menthofuran −94.90%). These oils were screened for antibacterial activity against 15 bacterial species. The oil of C. galioides citral efficiently controlled the growth of Bacillus sp., L. monocytogenes, S. aureus, A. hydrophila, and E. faecalis, showing both contact and gaseous activity. Although less efficient, the other essential oils studied were effective against Bacillus species, S. aureus, and other specific bacteria. MIC and MCC values support their popular use, and indicate that they can be an efficient alternative for the control of foodborne and spoiling bacteria.  相似文献

Essential oils extracted by hydrodistillation from Cuminum cyminum and Rosmarinus officinalis were characterized by means of GC and GC–MS. C. cyminum and R. officinalis contained α-pinene (29.1%, 14.9%), 1,8-cineole (17.9%, 7.43%) and linalool (10.4%, 14.9%), respectively, as the major compounds. C. cyminum oil exhibited stronger antimicrobial activity than did R. officinalis oil against E. coli, S. aureus and L. monocytogenes. Complete death time on exposure to Cuminum cyminum L. and Rosmarinus officinalis L. oils were 20 and 25 min 180 and 240 min and 90 and 120 min for E. coli, S. aureus and L. monocytogenes, respectively. Radical-scavenging and antioxidant properties were tested by means of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) assay and the β-carotene bleaching test. These properties were compared to those of Thymus x-porlock essential oil, used as a reference ingredient. The radical scavenging performance of the rosemary oil was better than that of C. cyminum. Results from the antioxidant test were better than those provided by the radical-scavenging activity. C. cyminum and R. officinalis essential oils may be considered as potent agents in food preservation.  相似文献

Essential oils of Myrtus communis L. leaves were obtained using supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) and hydrodistillation methods. The experimental parameters of SFE such as pressure, temperature, modifier volume, static and dynamic extraction time were optimised using a central composite design after a 2n−1 fractional factorial design. The chemical compositions of the SFE extract were identified by GC–MS and determined by GC–FID. The major components of essential oils obtained by hydrodistillation were α-pinene (31.8%), 1,8-cineole (24.6%), limonene (14.8%), linalool (8.3%) and α-terpinolene (4.8%). However, by using the supercritical carbon dioxide in optimum conditions, only three components represented more than 85% of the extract. Therefore, by using the proper SFE conditions, the supercritical extraction is more selective than the conventional hydrodistillation methods. The oil yields based on the hydrodistillation was 0.47% (v/w). Extraction yields based on the SFE varied in the range of 0.5–6.3% (w/w) under different conditions.  相似文献

The essential oils of twenty Eucalyptus species harvested from Zerniza and Souinet arboreta (North West and North of Tunisia), were screened for their antibacterial activities by the agar disc diffusion method. Eighteen major compounds, identified by GC and GC/MS, have been retained for the study of the chemical and biological activity variability. The main ones were 1,8-cineole followed by α-pinene, p-cymene, borneol, cryptone, spathulenol, viridiflorol and limonene. The chemical principal components analysis identified 10 chemotypes, however that of the inhibition zone diameter (izd) of growth bacteria separated 5 groups of Eucalyptus oils, characterised by their antibacterial inhibition ability. The most sensitive strain was the Gram positive Staphylococcus aureus with that of E. odorata oil (16.0 ± 1.0 mm izd), while the most resistant bacteria was Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Some correlation between the amount of 1,8-cineole, p-cymene, α-pinene, or of cryptone and the antibacterial activity were observed.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to determine the Minimal Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) of thyme (29.4% thymol, 21.6% p-cymene) and rosemary essential oils (27.6% 1,8-cineole, 13.5% limonene, 13.0% β-pinene) against Brochothrix thermosphacta and to establish the feasibility of their use as components of modified atmosphere during beef refrigerated storage. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of thyme oil against B. thermosphacta is 0.05% and that of rosemary oil 0.5%. The MIC values are independent on strain and temperature of growth, however the bactericidal effects are strain dependent. The addition of any of oil at a concentration equal to 2MIC to the modified atmosphere (80% O2/20% CO2) does not significantly influence the microbial quality of meat. At the same time, such a concentration of the essential oils was considerably detrimental to the organoleptic factors.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to investigate the antibacterial activity of six Lamiaceae essential oils, against pathogenic and food spoilage bacteria. The chemical profiles of essential oils were evaluated by the means of GC and GC-MS. The major constituents of the oils were 1,8-cineol (29.2%), camphor (17.2%), α-pinene (11.5%) in Rosmarinus officinalis, citronellal (20.5%), β- geraniol (17.0%), β-citronellol (11.5%) in Melissa officinalis, 1,8-cineol (27.4%), α-thujone (16.3%), β-thujone (11.2%), borneol (10.4%), camphor (7.98%) in Salvia officinalis, linalool (25.1%), linalyl acetate (22.5%) in Lavandula angustifolia, thymol (52.4%), p-cymene (17.9%) in Thymus vulgaris and Patcholene alcohol (22.7%), α-bulnesene (17.1%), α-guaine (13.8%) in Pogostemon cablin. On quantitative basis, the amounts of 1,8-cineol, citronellal, 1,8-cineol, linalool, thymol and patchouli alcohol, calculated using calibrated curve with pure standard compounds, in the respective essential oils were found to be 28.4, 19.0, 26.7, 23.3, 51.1 and 21.1 g/100 g of oil, respectively. The modified resazurin microtitre-plate assay was used to evaluate the antibacterial activity of the essential oils and their principal components. All the essential oils analyzed presented inhibitory effects on most of the strains tested. Thymus vulgaris essential oil showed the highest inhibition. It was concluded that modified resazurin assay could be effectively used for reliable assessment of antibacterial activity of the tested essential oils against several Gram positive and negative bacterial taxa. The present results also demonstrated that Lamiaceae essential oils exhibiting higher antibacterial activity were generally rich in oxygenated monoterpens.  相似文献

The essential oils obtained from the leafy parts of the shoots, inflorescences and fruits of Eryngium amethystinum (Apiaceae) from Italy have been studied. The essential oil from the inflorescences was characterised by methyl-derivatives of benzaldehyde (26.4%) and by some phenylpropanoids (3.0%) such as eugenol and (E)-methyl isoeugenol. The essential oil of leafy parts of the shoots showed a higher percentage of sesquiterpenes (31.3%) than monoterpenes (20.2%). The main differences between the two essential oils can be referred to α-pinene and germacrene D: the essential oil of the inflorescences contained much more α-pinene than the other one (25.6% vs. 11.8%), while the contrary is true for germacrene D (14.5% vs. 31.3%).  相似文献

The essential oil obtained from Heteropyxis natalensis by steam distillation was tested for antimicrobial properties. Twenty five bacterial and four fungal species were used as test organisms in this study. These included animal and plant pathogens, food poisoning bacteria and mycotoxigenic fungal strains. The essential oil exhibited considerable inhibitory activities against all the test organisms. GC–MS analysis indicated the essential oil contained 1,8-cineole, limonene, β-myrcene, α-phellandrene and α-pinene.  相似文献

Constituents of essential oils from fruit samples of the turpentine tree (Pistacia terebinthus L.) collected from fifteen different localities of Turkey on August 2001 were identified by GC–MS. Twenty-eight compounds representing 92.3–100.0% of turpentine fruit oils were identified. The oil yields varied between 0.06% and 0.16%. The highest yield of oil was obtained from fruits of Antalya origin (Akba?-Serik) (0.16%). α-Pinene (51.3%), limonene (39.0%), p-cymen-8-ol (40.0%) and caryophyllene oxide (51.0%) were found as major components for different localities in Turkey. The predominant constituents in most samples were α-pinene (9.5–51.3%), limonene (tr-39.0%) and caryophyllene oxide (tr-51.5). Except for one collection (Manavgat-Antalya), which contained spathulenol (20.7%) and p-cymen-8-ol (40.0%), all the other samples yielded oils rich in α-pinene and limonene. β-Caryophyllene oxide is the most abundant compound in Hisarönü (?zmir), Alanya (Antalya) and Yaylada? (Hatay) oils. Results confirm the effect of locality on the oil content and composition.  相似文献
