Berry cactus fruit (Myrtillocactus geometrizans) is an endemic cactus fruit from Mexico and is a rich source of phytochemicals, primarily betacyanins, betalains and polyphenols. However, only a few studies have been performed to evaluate the changes in the levels of these compounds in berry cactus fruits during post harvest storage. Berry cactus fruits were treated with a sodium caseinate (Na-Cas) based edible coating plasticized with sorbitol (S) and glycerol (G), and their phytochemical contents were evaluated. Control (C), Na-Cas(S) and Na-Cas(G) fruits were packed in clam shell boxes and stored at 5 ± 1 °C for 15 days. Betacyanins, betaxanthins, total polyphenols, their in vitro antioxidant activity, as well as ??-amylase and ??-glucosidase inhibitory activities were estimated during storage at 0, 7 and 15 days. Polyphenol levels declined from an initial 3500 mg/100 g of dry fruit by over 50% after 7 days of storage. By contrast, total betalain levels remained steady during the 15 days of storage. Antioxidant capacity, as measured by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl-hydrazyl) radical scavenging, was maintained in berry cactus fruit extracts during storage. Edible coatings did not have any effects on the antioxidant capacity. Berry cactus polyphenols were also strong inhibitors of ??-amylase and ??-glucosidase activities. Portulacaxanthin II and III, indicaxanthin, vulgaxanthin I and III, 3-methoxytyramine-betaxanthin, arginine-betaxanthin, betanidin, dopa-betaxanthin, betanin, phyllocactin, and three other unknown compounds were identified as betalains. As well, a catechin derivative, epicatechin, epigallocatechin, kaempferol, myricitrin, quercetin 3-O-??-glucoside, isorhamnetin 3-glucoside and a kampferol diglycoside were identified as polyphenols.  相似文献

Berries of Vaccinium meridionale Swartz native to Colombia were analysed for chemical composition, total phenolic content, anthocyanin content, and antioxidant activity. In addition, high-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection (HPLC–DAD) and HPLC-electrospray ionisation tandem mass spectrometry (ESI–MS/MS) were used to determine anthocyanin and phenolic composition. Anthocyanin content was 329.0 ± 28.0 mg cyanidin 3-glucoside equivalents/100 g (fresh weight) FW and total phenolic content was 758.6 ± 62.3 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g FW. Cyanidin 3-galactoside was the major anthocyanin while the most abundant non-anthocyanin phenolic was chlorogenic acid.  相似文献

Cactus pear fruit (Opuntia) are harvested from various species of the genus Opuntia of the cactus family (Cactaceae), and are produced and consumed in several countries. We have characterized the nutritional content and antioxidant capacity (AC) of the fruit of ten cultivars/lines of distinct pulp colors. ‘Camuesa’ had the highest betalains, total carotenoids, ß-carotene, ascorbic acid, and was one of the highest in total phenolic compounds, but its AC did not demonstrate outstanding differences with some other cultivars/lines that were not as rich in these compounds. ‘Roja Pelota’ had high AC when measured with the DPPH assay, but had low total carotenoids, ß-carotene and total phenolic content. ‘Reyna’ had slightly low AC as measured by the FRAP assay, practically no betalains, and low vitamin C, tocopherols, ß-carotene, and total phenolic content.  相似文献

The effects of solvents, of varying polarities, on the extraction of antioxidant phenolics from the leaves, seeds, veins and skins of Tamarindus indica (T. indica) were studied. The efficiencies of the solvents for extraction of the antioxidant phenolics were in the order: methanol > ethyl acetate > hexane. Phenolic content ranged from 3.17 to 309 mg of gallic acid equivalents/g. Methanol leaf extract (MEL) had the highest phenolic content and was the most potent scavenger of DPPH and superoxide radicals. Methanol vein extract had the highest ferric reducing activity whereas methanol seed extract was the most potent ABTS radical-scavenger. A positive correlation existed between phenolic content and antioxidant activities of the plant parts. HPLC analyses of MEL revealed the presence of catechin, epicatechin, quercetin and isorhamnetin. Overall, methanol was the most effective solvent for extraction of antioxidant phenolics from T. indica. T. indica, particularly the leaf, can be a useful source of natural antioxidants.  相似文献

Flavonols, betacyanins content and antioxidant activity of red-purple cactus Opuntia macrorhiza fruits, a promising cactus pear species, were evaluated in comparison to the well known cactus pear fruits of Opuntia ficus-indica. Flavonol profile was evaluated by HPLC-DAD prior to and after enzymatic hydrolysis (glycosides vs. aglycons). In addition betacyanins, responsible for the purple to red color of cactus pear fruits were also estimated and compared to Beta vulgaris ssp. (roots) and red O. ficus-indica fruits. In all cases, cactus fruit pulps showed no flavonols at all. While different derivatives of isorhamnetin glycosides were found in O. ficus-indica fruit's peel, isorhamnetin-3-O-rutinoside was the only compound in O. macrorhiza fruit. Correspondingly, antioxidant activity assays showed a high antioxidant activity of both, O. macrorhiza fruit's peel and pulp. With regard to betacyanins, O. macrorhiza fruit's peel and pulp provide a deep red-purple color, whose average impact is higher compared to red beet (B. vulgaris spp.) and about 8-fold higher than red fruits from O. ficus-indica. Supporting these results, estimation of color attributes (L*, a*, b*, C and H°) showed also a high color impact of both O. macrorhiza fruit's peel and pulp.  相似文献

Suaeda fruticosa is an edible and medicinal halophyte known for its hypoglycaemic and hypolipidaemic activities. In this study, novel biological activities of the shoot extracts related to their phenolics were investigated. Results showed an appreciable total phenolic (31.8 mg GAE/g DW) in shoot extracts. The estimation of antioxidant capacities using oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC method) and a cell based-assay (WS1) of four extracts (hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and water) showed that shoot methanol extract exhibit the highest antioxidant activities. The same extract displayed the utmost anti-inflammatory activity, inhibiting nitric oxide (NO) release, by 66.4% at 160 μg/ml in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. Besides, the dichloromethane extract showed the highest anticancer activity against human lung carcinoma (A-549) and colon adenocarcinoma cell lines (DLD-1, Caco-2 and HT-29) with specificity against DLD-1 (IC50 = 10 ± 1 μg/ml). These findings demonstrate the remarkable potentiality of this edible halophyte as valuable source of antioxidants which exhibit original and interesting anti-inflammatory and anticancer capacities.  相似文献

This study was conducted in order to assess the effect of the inoculation of Glycine max (soybean) with Bradyrhizobium japonicum on the metabolite profile and antioxidant potential of its aerial parts. Extracts containing phenolic compounds and organic acids were analysed by HPLC–DAD and HPLC–UV, respectively. Volatiles profile was determined by HS-SPME/GC–IT-MS. The antioxidant activity of acidic and methanolic extracts was assessed against DPPH. Nodulation caused by B. japonicum led to an increase in the contents of phenolic compounds and organic acids. The same was observed for volatile compounds, with compounds like linalyl acetate, menthyl acetate and α-farnesene being detected only in inoculated plants. The phenolic extracts showed stronger antioxidant capacity than the organic acid extracts. In addition, extracts from plants nodulated with B. japonicum exhibited significantly higher antioxidant activity than control samples. These findings suggest that the inoculation with nodulating B. japonicum strains may be employed to manipulate the content of interesting metabolites in G. max aerial parts.  相似文献

In an earlier study, radiation treatment (0.5 kGy) and low temperature (4 °C) storage were found to extend the shelf life of litchi fruit var. ‘Shahi’ and ‘China’ from India up to 28 days, while maintaining its physical, biochemical and organoleptic properties. The current study was aimed to elucidate the antioxidant and radioprotective properties of the litchi fruit, and the effect of radiation processing on these properties. The litchi fruit was found to be significantly rich in antioxidant and radioprotective properties, and the antioxidant parameters were found to be well correlated with the phenolic and flavonoid contents. A significant protection to pBR322 plasmid DNA and Escherichia coli cells from radiation induced damage was observed in the presence of litchi juice. Plasmid DNA was well protected even at the dose of 5 kGy, whereas, bacterial cells could be protected up to 0.5 kGy. Neither of these properties was found to be sensitive to radiation processing or low temperature storage.  相似文献

Samples of fruit from the jussara palm plant (Euterpe edulis), collected in different regions of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, were analyzed for chemical composition, phenolic acids, anthocyanins, flavonoids and fatty acids profile. Results indicated that the jussara fruit has a high lipid content (18.45-44.08%), oleic acid (44.17-55.61%) and linoleic acid (18.19-25.36%) are the fatty acids found in the highest proportion, and other components were proteins (5.13-8.21%), ash (1.55-3.32%) and moisture (34.95-42.47%). Significant differences were found in the total phenolic, total monomeric anthocyanins and other flavonoids for the samples from the five cultivation regions. The fruit from region E harvested in summer, with high temperatures and medium altitudes, had the highest contents of total phenolics (2610.86 ± 3.89 mg 100 g−1 GAE) and monomeric anthocyanins (1080.54 ± 2.33 mg 100 g− 1 cy-3-glu). The phenolic compound included ferulic, gallic, hydroxybenzoic and p-coumaric acids, as well as catechin, epicatechin and quercetin. The results show promising perspectives for the exploitation of this tropical fruit with a chemical composition comprising considerable phenolic acids and flavonoids compounds and showing activity antioxidant.  相似文献

The flavonoids composition of kumquat (Fortunella japonica) crude juice, obtained from uripe and ripe fruits, were investigated by reverse-phase LC-DAD-ESI-ITMS analysis. Thirteen compounds (C- and O-glycosyl flavonoids) were identified. Acacetin 3,6-di-C-glucoside (1), vicenin-2 (2), lucenin-2 4′-methyl ether (3) narirutin 4′-O-glucoside (4) and apigenin 8-C-neohesperidoside (5) were identified for the first time in kumquat juice. Furthermore, we report on the remarkable antioxidant properties of crude juice, of selected flavonoids fractions and of the main component, phloretin 3′,5′-di-C-glucoside (6).  相似文献

The aerial parts of Sideritis syriaca ssp. syriaca (Lamiaceae) were extracted, after defatting, with diethyl ether, ethyl acetate and n-butanol. The antioxidant activities of the extracts were evaluated through in vitro model systems, such as 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) and Co(II) EDTA-induced luminol chemiluminescence. In both model systems the ethyl acetate extract was the most effective. Phytochemical analysis of ethyl acetate extract showed the presence of two new isomeric compounds (1 and 1′), identified as 1-rhamnosyl, 1-coumaroyl, dihydrocaffeoyl, protocatechuic tetraester of quinic acid, as well as chlorogenic acid (2), apigenin 7-O-glucoside (3), apigenin (4), 4′-O-methylisoscutellarein 7-O-[6′′′-O-acetyl-β-D-allopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-d-glucopyranoside] (5), isoscutellarein 7-O-[6′′′-O-acetyl-β-D-allopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-d-glucopyranoside] (6), 4′-O-methylisoscutellarein 7-O[β-d-allopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-β-d-glucopyranoside] (7) and 4′-O-methylisoscutellarein 7-O-[β-d-allopyranosyl-(1 → 2)-6′′-O-acetyl-β-d-glucopyranoside] (8). The above compounds were identified by spectroscopic methods.  相似文献

The antioxidant properties of alcoholic extracts from the leaves, berries and flowers of Sambucus nigra L. are estimated by means of DPPH and β-carotene/linoleic acid methods, and considered in relation to the extraction temperature (in the range 20-200 °C) and to the level of flavonoids most representative for this plant. The extracts of S. nigra act as antioxidants neutralizing the activities of free radicals and inhibiting the co-oxidation reactions of linoleic acid and β-carotene. There is no direct correlation between the level of flavonoids in the extracts and their antioxidant activity. The data presented show that the extraction temperature strongly influences the antioxidant properties of the extracts, especially in the case of leaves.  相似文献

Critical steps of a typical industrial line for processing a blackberry-based beverage in glass bottles have been studied, together with the effects of storage of final product at four different temperatures. For the steps, contents of total phenolics, anthocyanins, ellagitannins, and minor phenolic compounds were assessed by HPLC-DAD and antioxidant capacity by H-ORAC and DPPH. Thermal processes, especially blanching, drastically reduced anthocyanins, whereas hot-filling degraded ellagitannins. The final product showed reduced values for the anthocyanins cyanidin-3-glucoside (by 52%) and cyanidin-3-malonyl glucoside (64%), and ellagitannins lambertianin C (80%), and sanguiin H-6 (50%). Antioxidant capacity (H-ORAC) dropped by almost 47%. The anthocyanins and ellagitannins continued degrading during storage, especially if temperatures were high. Reduction kinetic parameters during storage were estimated for anthocyanins and, for the first time, for both lambertianin C and sanguiin H-6.  相似文献

Talinum triangulare (Jacq.) Willd is an erect, succulent, perennial herb belonging to the family Portulacaceae. Under extreme environmental conditions, the plant produces betalain pigments which get accumulated in the stem region. Hence, in the present study, the betaxanthin and betacyanin patterns from different samples of T. triangulare have been investigated by applying high-performance liquid chromatography photo-diode array detection (HPLC-PDA) coupled with positive ion electro-spray mass spectrometry. Two betacyanins and two betaxanthins were identified in aqueous methanolic extract of flower, stem and leaf. Betanin, isobetanin, immonium conjugates of betalamic acid with dopamine and tyrosine were elucidated. The total betalain content was estimated by photometric analysis. In vitro antioxidant activity for the betalain extract determined by various methods revealed potent scavenging ability. The current work may possibly be considered beneficial in utilisation of the plant T. triangulare as a natural colourant in food and beverage industries.  相似文献

Frangula rupestris and Frangula alnus are deciduous shrubs distributed in Balkan Peninsula. While the bark of F. alnus is medicinally widely used, little is known about chemical and biological properties of F. rupestris. In the present study, F. rupestris and F. alnus bark were evaluated for their reducing power, DPPH radical scavenging and chelating activity, as well as antioxidant activity in β-carotene-linoleic acid assay. In addition, phenolic content, anthraquinone profile and antimicrobial activity of F. rupestris and F. alnus bark were determined. The most represented anthraquinone derivatives in F. rupestris and F. alnus bark were physcion (0.11 mg/g) and emodin (2.03 mg/g), respectively. Both species demonstrated excellent antioxidant and antimicrobial activities with MIC values equal or lower than 2.5 mg/mL. The presented research indicates that both species may have health benefits as natural antioxidants and antimicrobial agents for use in functional foods or medicine.  相似文献

The ethyl acetate fraction of the leaves of Engelhardia roxburghiana Wall exhibited strong anti-inflammatory, anti-proliferative, and antioxidant activities. From this fraction, three new flavanonol glycosides: (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,4′-tetrahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O-galloyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (1), (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,3′,4′-pentahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O-galloyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (2), (2R, 3R)-3,5,7,3′,4′-pentahydroxyflavanonol-3-O-(3″-O- p-(E)-coumaroyl)-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (3), were isolated. The structures of these compounds were elucidated based on spectroscopic, and chemical analyses. The anti-inflammatory activities of 1-3 were examined as their inhibitory abilities on the expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, MCP-1, and COX-2 mRNA, in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated mouse J774A.1 macrophage cells. At the concentration of 50 μM, 2 and 3 significantly reduced the IL-1β expression, while 1 induced its expression contrarily. Meanwhile, 1 and 3 exhibited significant inhibition of TNF-α expression at the concentration of 10 μM, while 2 could achieve weak but significant inhibition at 50 μM. Furthermore, 1-3 did not suppress the mRNA expression of MCP-1 and COX-2. Compounds 1-3 showed significant anti-proliferative effect in Hep G2 cells. 3 showed the most potent anti-proliferative effect in HT-29 human colon cancer cells, while 1 and 2 had no inhibition. In addition, 1 and 2 exhibited antioxidant activities. The ORAC values of 1 and 2 were 12.8 and 17.0 mmol TE/g and the HOSC values of 1 and 2 were 14.4 and 16.0 mmol TE/g, respectively.  相似文献
